Drunken Alliance [DKAL]
Piken Square [EU]
Basically the title.
I’m trying to decide on which to level next and gear up.
I’ll mainly be roaming in WvW with another Thief friend, but I will also be doing some solo roaming.
Thanks.
I’ve come back to this after a while and I still can’t decide.
I prefer the Aesthetics of the Guardian, but I still can’t decide :P
Any more opinions?
Hey everyone…
Are there any Staffs which you know of which suit Guardian quite well? I see a lot of very nice Necro Staffs but I don’t really want a deathly Staff on my holy Guardian
Thanks,
The Baws.
P.S. sorry if I put this in the wrong sub-forum. I wasn’t sure where to put it.
Sylvari ofcourse
Also, sorry for the double post, what gear is that? It looks great!
I asked Ascii what he thought and he said Asura
What do Asura look like as Necros in Necro gear etc.?
Hey guys,
What would you say?
I know Human looks better in gear in general and has a better running animation, but Sylvari’s a bit different…
What do you guys think?
I’ve tried every profession now and I still can’t decide…
I think it’s just that I don’t have anything I’m really into in Guild Wars at the moment, therefore I can’t decide…
I guess I’m going to need to find something.

Hey everyone,
I’ve had my level 80 Warrior for aaaaaaaages now and unfortunately I’ve shelved him basically for everything except CoF…
This is just because I find him pretty boring and easy, so I was wondering how you guys would say to make him a bit more fun?
ATM I have 30 points in the Power Traits, 20 in the Precision, and 20 in Crit DMG (Sorry I don’t know the names), and I have full berserker gear. I use GS/Rifle as I think they look cool (I know so nooby lol).
I see so many Warriors around and loads of people say they love Warrior etc. and I really want to love mine too.
Thanks loads,
The Baws.
Coming from a Thief, perma-invis or any stealth of that sort is easy to counter assuming you are a competent player.
If the Thief opens on you without you being aware whatsoever, then unfortunately there’s nothing really to do about it, but they can’t burst you down completely. Even a fully zerker Thief with dmg food and bloodlust can’t 1 hit kill you unless you yourself are glass cannon. If he uses the basilisk venom, just stun break and evade…
If you see him running towards you however then stealth, just keep on swinging and roughly time how long it would take him to get to you, and evade at that time. It takes practice sure but it works.
Hey everyone,
I’ve recently been looking for a class to main, and that started me thinking about what I actually do in GW… It’s basically nothing.
I do a few CoF runs for the gear, and a bit of WvW for well… no reason. Can anyone suggest some things that there are to do which aren’t dungeons or PvP related?
To me the dungeons don’t seem like experiences, they seem like gear-grinding, and then the PvP is not rewarded at all basically, except for a few titles whoop dee doo.
I really want to get stuck into this game and get a character (not sure which class) geared up and mastered, but I can’t really master him if there’s not much to do with him…
So you want a class which is fun, challenging, versatile, good in PvE, good in WvW, good at Ranged, good in Melee, good at surviving and good at DPS?
I’ve been looking for that class since beta and I’m afraid it doesn’t exist lol.
What it comes down to…
Do you want a challenge?
Yes? Mesmer
No? Warrior
What kind of PvP are you planning on doing?
WvW Roaming/sPvP = Thief,
WvW Zerging = Necromancer (Mesmers in this are just used as time warp/portal bots),
Everything else = Mesmer.
You could get the Guild one but nothing is as good as the Fractals one. It’s not that hard to get and Fractals rewards you massively with weapon skins, ascended gear, 20 slot bags, gold, and the back piece.
With the new “Sic ’Em” coming out, I’d main a Catsassin Ranger. Not only do you have access to a skill that reveals any target in stealth, but you’re extremely tanky, deal decent damage and have pretty solid condition pressure while your cat autoattacks for 2-6k.
What does this mean? I don’t really understand the “Sic ’Em” bit or the kittenin… :P
I find Warrior extremely boring that’s the problem.
Thanks for the replies, I think I’ll just gear my Thief up and get an Engi for PvE or maybe a Guard.
Yeah, I was thinking that too. He’s a burst thief so I was thinking I could go a tanky CC Guardian build and take most of the aggro while he does his stuff.
I don’t need like the best of the best, I’m only on a Tier 7 server… just looking for a combo that works really so we can have some fun.
After playing around on Mesmer a lot, I don’t really think it’s the class for me.
I’m mainly thinking between Thief and Guardian now, as I tried out some more Guardian builds and I’m really enjoying it…
I think it means you can’t enable it as your auto-attack, i.e. normally you can use Ctrl+2 or whatever it is, but on that ability you cant.
Same thing on engineer’s grenade kit.
Thanks for all the replies, I’m definitely giving Mesmer more of a go, and it really does seem like a great class, but levelling it is an absolute pain in the kitten ing kitten.
Also, another question… How should I go about getting started in WvW Roaming? I really want to try it but every time I do try, I get my kitten handed to me which is aggravating…
Hey everyone,
I had this problem very early on in release, and now it has come back from the grave to haunt me.
Randomly I get this message and I know for a fact that it’s on ANet’s side, and it means I can’t access anything which isn’t in the core game – by this I mean I can’t whisper anyone, say anything, whisper, use party chat, guild chat…
It’s incredibly annoying so please can you (ANet) give some tips about fixing it or give me some insight.
Thanks,
The Baws.
P.S. i’ve tried all of the ‘fix it’ things from the ANet support team, such as disabling firewall, ip-plotting to see where the connection is lost, moving the GW2 files…
These are all really good points, thanks loads. I’m definitely going to give Mesmer more of a go.
I have one currently at level 28 and find it pretty weak and I feel like I can’t really do much, but I’ve heard they are very different at 80.
P.S. if there are classes which you feel cover all of these bases better than the classes which I have said, do please say.
Hey everyone,
How do Guardians perform with an appropriate build in Small Group Roaming?
When played competently etc. of course. I will be mainly duoing with a Thief friend of mine, and will be building quite tankily in order to be able to take a lot of the aggro when he stealths.
I’m still in the process of deciding between Thief and Guardian and I find Guardian to be better at everything apart from this, so I wanted all of you guys’ input
Many thanks.,
The Baws.
I had this problem very early on in Guild Wars, and then it left – thank god. Yet, now it has returned, and is often making me very aggravated with the game, and it actually hurts my eyes as it makes me concentrate much much more, and tricks me into thinking its my eyes, which makes my eyes try to correct it…
Basically… ANET FIX PLZ
Basically the title.
When my player model is at fully-zoomed out, he becomes very blurry. This is only since the culling.
I have everything in High, with Depth Blur off, and Native Rendering. My resolution is correct.
Any ideas on how to fix it?
I agree with this thread so much. People QQ about Thieves it seems more than any other class just because they don’t bother to learn their weaknesses.
Flipping items/investing.
Kaema was too easy to get. Now it’s too hard to get…
By soing this they’re basically sticking their middle finger up to any casual players who want a legendary.
1.) Elementalist is one of the hardest classes to play in my opinion, and especially so when levelling up. I personally recommend the lightning hammer levelling build, just look it up and there are many posts about it. It doesnt really make you feel like an Ele, bit it is powerful and efficient.
2.) Ive levelled over 10 characters past 50 minimum, and ive never bought weapons from the trading post. Just use the gear you find from levelling, and also after completing a heart, go to the golden heart on the map and that personwill sell you stuff for Karma. Often this stuff is really good.
3.) Just choose whatever crafting you want. Weaponsmith is pretty good, and crafting to 400 gives you 10 levels worth of XP, so if youre at a tough spot in levelling consider crafting, but it costs a lot.
Remember to do your daily as it gives great XP and Karma and Laurels, also try to do your monthly and do exploration if you get stuck.
All opinions are still welcome
Hey everyone,
I’ve come to these Forums to ask for some opinions on this matter as I’m really not too experienced in GW2 yet.
I’ve logged about 500 hours on GW2 so far, since Beta, and apart from doing some very casual dungeon runs such as Twilight Arbor & CoF Explorable, I really haven’t done much to do with the game, except levelling.
The most recent problem I’ve come across, is whether to choose to main, gear, and dedicate my time to either my Elementalist or my Engineer.
Elementalist looks super awesome and has amazing aesthetics, as well as a high skill cap which I love.
Engineer has flamethrower, and some incredibly cool traits etc., never mind versatile builds.
I plan on playing mostly sPvP and WvW Roaming with a friend of mine (Thief). I also plan on doing some Fractals for the gear, the back, and other stuff.
Thanks loads for all opinions,
The Baws.

Warrior if you want it super-easy.
Thief if you want it to be more difficult, and more PvP oriented.
Those aren’t the only Melee professions.
Warrior: Probably the most played class. High DPS, strong, large health pool, decent mobility, but also very ‘samey’ and they get old very fast in my opinion.
Thief: The hardest to play very well of the Melee classes (along with Spirit Ranger), they are very squishy but have the highest single-target DPS in the game. This class is more PvP oriented.
Guardian: My personal favourite Melee class. Like Warrior, just less offence-oriented and more defence-oriented. Great damage mitigation and good DPS too, but not as high as Warriors.
Ranger: Melee Rangers are surprisingly good despite the name. People refer to them as Spirit Rangers and they’re not that popular, but they’re very strong when played well.
You’re asking for the ‘best’, but there isn’t one. Sorry about that.
For you? Go for Warrior. It’s simple and easy.
Hey everyone,
So recently I rolled an Asura Engineer and I love the class so much, and Asura is brilliant, but my friend was linking me some gears that are Medium, like the dungeon sets, and none of it really looks that great.
I was thinking of deleting him and rerolling as a Human for the cooler armor, except everything about Human is worse (in my opinion) than Asura except the armor…
So what’s your opinion,
Many thanks,
The Baws.
Hey everyone,
I’ve decided to make an Engineer and I want to make it Asura but I just find that none of the gear seems to look good on them. So I was wondering if anyone could post screenshots or link some cool gear which looks good on Asura…
Otherwise I’m going to have to go Sylvari as I dislike both the Human story-line and the voice.
Thanks,
The Baws.
Thief being the worst support is a load of rubbish.
They have AoE Stealth which heals, and the stealth is far longer than any of the stealth that Mesmers or Engineers can provide. Comparing them is pretty stupid. They can also almost permanently blind mobs, as well as reflect projectiles. Having thieves is one of the only ways to complete very high level Fractals for this reason.
Warrior for if you want to look cool in heavy gear but have a very basic play style which is a bit slow. High damage and decent survivability.
Guardian for a very basic play style, just cruise through the levels with very few problems. (My level 30 Guardian has 4 deaths and one was falling off a hill and the fall damage glitched.)
In my opinion, go for something more complex, and harder to play. Either Elementalist or Engineer as they are both versatile and strong when built correctly.
Or you could go for Thief which is what I started off with. But that’s only really if you plan on doing quite a lot of WvW Roaming (running around by yourself killing enemies) or sPvP.
Sylvari and Male.
Hey guys,
I’ve been trying to find a cool armour set for my Thief, and unfortunately I didn’t choose Whispers, quite stupidly admittingly, but what’s happened has happened xD
So what armour sets would you guys say look good? I know it may seem trivial but aesthetics mean a huge amount to me in MMOs, so its greatly appreciated.
Thanks
The Baws.
AW man I just remembered seeing this when I first loaded Guild Wars, it was AMAZING. And I genuinely mean that.
Small animations with an amazing minimalistic look.
For my new Engineer.
What do you guys think?
P.S. from aesthetics point of view, I.e. animations and mainly armour looks. Also if you have a cool Asura/Human engineer please feel free to post pictures below.
Thanks.
You’re asking for the perfect build, and sorry, it doesn’t exist.
Hmm yeah that’s what I was thinking, hence me saying I would go down a tanky build…
But I guess I’ll just stick to Roaming with my Thief
Do you guys think it would work?
I’m levelling an Engineer currently and I was thinking that if I went for a tanky condition build it would work quite well with my Zerker thief Roaming partner.
It doesn’t really matter too much as I have a Zerker thief too so if it doesn’t work I’ll just roam with him.
Thanks,
The Baws.
Hmm…
I already have a Thief at 80 and its pretty enjoyable but I find that they’re only really very good at WvW Roaming. I think I might level an Engineer and keep it for everything other than Roaming.
Hey everyone,
For WvW Roaming, Fractals and sPvP.
I’ll be going a damage oriented build for all three of them as I like big numbers and also I like the button mashing confuse the enemy kind of gameplay.
I’ve tried to get more information about Mesmer and Thieves in specific from their respective Forums, but all of it seems to be tainted with QQ which is really pretty annoying when trying to make an accurate decision.
I’m not looking for the most OP class, I’m just looking for one which does all of those things well, and isn’t getting screwed over by ANet which seems to be what is happening to the Mesmer at the moment.
Thanks for all insight,
The BaĆ aaaaaaws
(edited by The Baws.5164)
So should I just look for Yishi’s D/P build?
I agree with you about the P/D thing lol, I never liked the whole pistol whip or the condition aspect to Thieves.
Hey everyone,
I have a few questions about Roaming with my Thief in WvW.
I’ve done it a bit with my friend and it’s gone pretty well and it’s fun, but I still have a lotttt to learn and I can tell that, both about how the other classes play and other WvW things, basically things learnt with experience, but I also have some things which I want to ask you people to see if you can help me
So:
*What are popular Thief weapon combos at the moment? *
I’m going to be Duo Roaming and I’ve been mainly thinking either D/D, D/P or S/D, but I honestly have no idea.
Is there a way to have almost all the benefits of full Berserker but with a bit more health? If so, how and is it really necessary or is it rendered useless by active defence?
Is there a guide online which shows all Thief combo fields and how they work?
Could anyone link me to a few good builds which are high burst and high stealth? Or basically something that’s popular at the moment.
Thanks loads for all the help,
The Baws.
Yeah I’m still not 100% sure. Mesmers are a lot better at PvE and that’s kinda making me reconsider.
They would be easier to gear etc.
Edit: After playing both, I prefer the feel of the Thief.
Thanks
(edited by The Baws.5164)
Yeah that’s what I was thinking about the Mes getting aggro, and I like Berserker builds for high-risk high-reward gameplay.
I think I’m just going to play Thief.
What are they like in FotM btw? Just average?
I find Thief to actually be the opposite of a ‘nobrainer’ class. I personally find Warrior to be pretty ‘nobrainer’.
Yeah I’ve seen that build but I was just really wondering more about the classes themselves as opposed to specific builds.
