will this fix "low" population problem?

Just to clarify,
You suggested players can choose whether they want to join “Main” or “Home” maps and if “Main” is full it starts creating “Main” overflows.

If so, there wouldn’t be any point to go into any “Home” map since joining a “Main” server of overflow will be the best bet to play with players. It would also create more confusion for guilds, since you mainly want a guild to be made up of players of that server(especially part-time or full-time WvW guilds).

I also agree with your points, I am hoping devs will learn of this and previous Living Stories to create better designed content in the future.

Instead of having people avoid lasers for 10-20 minutes, they could have made achievements relating to actual “event” during the fights, such as an achievement relating to if the 3 different holograms are downed, and skipping having to fight the miniholograms that they split up into.

Also instead of these lackluster descriptions in the achievements, they could either make the description better, or not have a description and have it so that it is almost like a puzzle.

Wouldn’t fix anything. “Mains” would quickly fill up, probably the majority being from the more populated servers and then when people on low pop servers can’t get into “main” they’d be shoved back over to their own "home"flow with possible less people if some got in “main”.

It kinda sucks that there’s no controllers support yet for GW2. So I don’t think you’ll find many controller/joystick users since you have to pay or “pay” for 3rd party programs like Xpadder to use controllers

Backup saves?

TheGaryTh.1649

Probably easier for OP to redownload GW2 since we all don’t just have 20gb+ drives sitting around.

Is there anything I need to do to backup my account?

GW2 is run off of Anet’s servers or rather the servers Anet rents, so all progress of the characters and interactions within the game have to interact with the servers. Progress and preferences like in-game keybindings are also saved in their should be the servers so the controls should be the same for any computer. Not sure if the screenshots are saved on the server or are client-side, so might want to find and save them first.

If you do have an extra 20gb+ drive and don’t want to redownload GW2 I’d just copy and paste the whole GW2 folder(probably in your program files folder) into the extra drive and then paste it into your program files once you upgraded to Win8.1. But as said earlier, for alot of people it’d be easier just to redownload.

Unfortunately this is the negative effects of the newer content. Make it so that events must have a full and competent map to complete, and leave the less populated servers unable to complete them 90% of the time. Better bandwagon onto top tier servers…

To ppl that asked for vertical progression...

I honestly like the ascended weapons and armors, just because it gives us something other than legendaries to aim for. I really enjoy this game, however I feel that if ascended gear wasn’t implemented, I’d be less interested just because I find the current legendaries to be not that great especially for their expensive price tags.

Many popular games don’t necessarily have vertical progression, but that have more of a prestige progression where things can be unlocked by leveling up, killing x amount of things or by obtaining items. Especially in today’s current games, vertical progression isn’t a thing because of how it would be seen as unlocking more overpowered things, however in mmorpgs I like to see vertical progression because that style of progression works really well with the genre

If Anet where to take away any sort of vertical progression, GW2 would certainly become pretty boring. It’d just be be more of an empty shell. The vertical progression right now i for legendaries and ascended gear and if you take that away you’re left with plain exotic stats as the best gear.

Currently, with how easy it is to get exotic gear, we’d see more of the hardcore players turn into casuals since, there is hardly anything to do except dungeons, pvp, and searching for vanity items. There would be less grind, sure many people may like it, but it’d get boring fast. Sad to say, grinding makes the player more attached to the game because of how much time is invested.

Will One-handed Weapons be compensated?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheGaryTh.1649

TheGaryTh.1649

The damage rating associated with the weapon has almost nothing to do with actual damage differences between 1 handed and 2 handed weapons. The rating is just calculated with the skills among other things to get x amount of damage from a skill. I don’t feel 1h would be at a disadvantage compared with 2h weapons when they roll the update around.

2h weapons are actually currently at a disadvantage due to the fact that they don’t have the option for 2 sigil slots and that they don’t have the ability to use offhand weapons to diversify the builds according to the situation.

Besides, having a second sigil available with only increase 2h weapons by a max of 5% extra damage, or extra utility. I’m mainly excited for this so I can slap on double bloodlust sigils to stack faster.

As for crafting….well it kinda sucks, especially for ascended crafting, but that’s the way it is and also for crafting psuedo-legendaries(infinite light) and legendaries.

Most populated server

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TheGaryTh.1649

If you want the most populated server that does well in WvW I’d choose Jade Quarry, since Blackgate is full atm. Sanctum of Rall seems to have almost given up on WvW, looking at their scores last week. If you’re into roleplaying Tarnished Coast is the place to be. Unfortunately with the top populated servers, sometimes it’s a little hard to do certain events if the maps get too full and you aren’t able to get into them.

Welcome to the game!

Some tips:

Try different classes
Playing different classes let you learn the game ever better and tells you if you like the class or not. In general Heavy classes are the easiest to learn and Light and Medium are more difficult(Elementalist and Engineer have alot of skills to learn)

However focus on 1 or 2 that you especially like
This will allow you to not get overwhelmed by trying to learn every class at the same time.

Enjoy your first character
Don’t bother running the champ train in Queensdale, makes the game pretty stale. Just explore, do hearts and personal stories.

is "Stacking" the new "Tanking"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheGaryTh.1649

TheGaryTh.1649

I think people just see it as “evil” either because of how easy and efficient it is and because of personal experiences of toxic parties that don’t coordinate well because parts of it don’t follow as others do.

Fact is GW2 will never have real mmo “tanks” because of the lack of the holy mmo trinity. Boon stacking and how classes work together really benefit from stacking. Stacking isn’t GW2’s tanking, but is the most efficient way of doing most things in PvE.

Server Population

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheGaryTh.1649

TheGaryTh.1649

Hey all,

With the recent challenging new additions to the LS events and Triple Wurms and the end of WvW season 1, I’ve found it almost disturbing on how imbalanced the server population has become. This newer content seems to be centered more on organization and population. I’ve also heard statistics that show that only 50% of the servers have beaten the Marionette and only 25% of server have beaten it more than 10 times.
*Will find link and post later

Glancing at the NA server list, with every server being “very high” with the exception of Blackgate which is full. However, I highly doubt servers such as Jade Quarry and Maguuma have similar populations to smaller servers such as Borlis Pass and Eredon Terrace.

Looking back at WvW Season 1 there was alot of great teamwork within the servers, however it almost seems kind of boring for any of the non-top 6 servers because of the lower populations. Recently within the past week, WvW scores have shown Sanctum of Rall has had a severe loss of WvW guilds. However due how to the WvW ranking system works, SoR has little chance on moving down to compete with servers with similar WvW populations.

Here is a few things I think should be done:

  • Delete a couple of low population servers and offer free server transfers
  • Reevaluate what is considered a “Very High” server population
  • Reward players for transferring or staying on a lower population server

Rewards should give incentive for players to transfer to lower population servers, and should be extra rewards for playing the game and not just be free handouts(example: permanent +10%/5% WvW world bonuses and a serverwide +25% magic find bonuses)

I’m curious to know if when you get it set up if it will increase your FoV and what pathetic excuses we’ll get from Anet for not giving us a FoV slider if it does.

This post has nothing to do with FoV, but to answer your question, yes Anet is working on FoV stuff, and it’s currently in the beta.

Crafting 400-425 is pretty cheap if you refine Hardened Leather if you don’t have or want to buy/farm the Oricalcum or Ancient Wood.

Crafting 450-475 is when you can get xp from crafting “gold-free” ascended materials such as Bloodstone and Dragonite, however it can be expensive Karma/Fractal Token/Laurel-wise. I don’t believe Bloodstone should be too hard/expensive to get.

475-500 you basically just need to discover weapons. I’d suggest discovering all of the warhorn and torch basic recipes(the ones you can just buy from the vendors)

Bows are cheap, thanks to the fact they use wood and leather which are both SIGNIFICANTLY less expensive than Orichalcum. Obviously the insignia will still be expensive to make, but both bows should be your go to items for discovery if you want to save money.

Not true, bows require 4 Ancient Wood planks(~56s) which is 12 logs(~60s). Torches and horns both are 2 Oricalcum Ingots and 2 planks (total ~48s) or 4 ores and 6 logs (total ~50s).

If you’re choosing to T6 mat farm every day and not rely on the tp to get mats I’d even say making pistols and even rifles would be cheaper timewise, since it’s more of a mix of both ingots and wood, and you’d wouldn’t lose as much when using the tp to exchange ingots for planks due to the 15% charge when you sell items

I imagine the process would be similar to Win7 where you’d just set a screen as your main display(in this case your MacBook default screen) and then choose to extend your screen onto the Apple TV. Then you could try playing in windowed mode with desired resolution or windowed fullscreen, but not fullscreen. I believe this setting would allow you to move your cursor out of the game without having to tab out. Lastly, you’d drag the browser onto the TV screen.

Unfortunately because of your setup, you may see a loss of performance in-game, depending on your system specs.

Human or Norn Guardian?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheGaryTh.1649

TheGaryTh.1649

Norns are pretty awesome and have great cultural armors, but have so-so racial skills(summons owls and transforms into different animals). Human on the other hand have good cultural armor, great racial skills but has smaller weapons and armors. It all depends whether in the long run if you want a specific cultural armor and if you don’t care maybe choose based on what racial skill you’d want on your Guardian.

Personally I chose Norn for my Guardian because of oversized weapons(weapons are the same size for short and tall characters of the same race) and because of tattoos.

Oh and Norn has tattoos.

Work Off Death Penalty like GW1

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheGaryTh.1649

TheGaryTh.1649

I miss the death penalty system from Guild Wars 1.

Yes the penalty was felt and it was a real punishment, but it helped kick-start motivation to actually improve your skills as a player.

Armor damage seems to have not had this effect, judging from the fact that many people who play the game are to be really blunt; supremely unskilled, and this doesn’t seem to be changing.

OF course the original game was far more structured though, from combat to enemy placement. So yeah whilst I do miss Death Penalty, it doesn’t fit here as well as it should.

I felt the GW1’s death penalty was pretty ridiculous and tended to snowball out of control until you has a 60% penalty and had to use consumables to lower it or having to restart a mission if you did not have enough energy/survivability to complete it.

For me the the death penalty just encouraged more passive play by agroing 1 mob party at a time only to sit behind heroes and henchies and let them kill/be killed so I could complete missions.

GW1 is a totally different game from GW2 and I think it should stay this way.

Endless amounts of mob and no loot.

I’d like to point out loot-less/xp-less mobs also don’t proc on-kill effect. I don’t mind having loot-less/xp-less mobs, however I kill not having on-kill effect is a problem since there are quite a few on-kill game mechanics that don’t trigger because of this(like Guardian F1 spam).

Need advice for Tanky Guardians please

in Guardian

Posted by: TheGaryTh.1649

TheGaryTh.1649

Unfortunately, Guardian cannot tank like tanks in more traditional mmorpg. Guardians have a more offensive role, dishing out damage and boons to allies. I’d suggest damage damage builds suck as 20/25/0/5/20 and use soldier, valkyrie or a mix of berserker and valkyrie armors. Altruistic Healing builds making you tanky, but you can’t do that much damage and you rely too much on giving boons and small heals to allies an hoping they survive to dish out extra damage to compensate for AH build’s lack of.

With an offensive Guardian build, you have a good burst with GS and you are also able to dish out boons. Hammer autoattacks, when traited have the highest dps and can offer 100% protection boon for any allies and you who stand in the symbol, which is imo a better alternative to a super tanky Guardian.

5 things you'd like to see next patch.

Was playing around with the “-nopatchui” command to try to enable a Mumble overlay within the game and I got the game to startup and overlay to show up, however Guild Wars just a black screen and doesn’t load anything (waited 1 min). Was wondering if there is a way to fix this or another workaround, so that I can use the overlay.
