I hope that it will. It also makes sense to tie it to new zone currencies as they did with HoT. Even if someone of them are associated to some released in PvP. PvP was probably the live fire test for some of the concepts that were considered so they could pre-gather numbers.

Have you checked how many you can craft?

Also meta events from maps will award them at times.

Not seeing an issue with being dismounted. On top of that if you are not I could see how this could make it harder for others to gather the same resource node if people remain mounted and can’t see the node buried by a mount.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
I am not sure that gathering in the lower tiers is the issue, but more events that are associated with new story arcs/expansions and tie-ins to those lower tiers. I don’t think going to lower tiers to gather is an issue but wouldn’t mind more things to do while there. The ley-line anomalies showing up in lower tiers is a good example of having reasons to return to those zones. You want reasons to spread people about some. Gathering lower tier mats is one of those. On the flipside the higher end mats being less valuable is due to their supply and lack of a demand. I would be watchful since we might suddenly get some new demands on those tiers of items and then people will be looking for those nodes in the new zones. Look at how much supply guilds halls drained out, I would expect more of the same.

From the short wearing arm of the brotherhood we would raise concerns on the abrasive nature of said mount on one’s legs. I fear that our enemies might have an edge on us as we are scratching and soothing ride-burns self inflicted by transferring the terrain so proper gear would be required if actions were taken in this direction.
On a side note don’t have dog in the race but I have had guildies that wouldn’t do content with spiders as silly as it may seem, so don’t underestimate people’s phobias these days. Good hunting!

Some of your question is really subjective so it makes it hard to answer. That said, if you like the player versus player because of variety that humans add over AI do you WvW? If so WvW has become a game mode that isn’t just a gold sync now and you still get to fight others. You also get to use HoT classes but not do HoT PvE since you can take WvW currency to unlock masteries from the HoT PvE zones.
For the PvE side, were you previously running HoT solo or with group or guild. If solo when you get back in game see if you can find a guild. Seeing more people coming back and re-running HoT as they wait for PoF so you might find a different experience now than then.
Fractals, well the goal of fractals is to do more fractals. But yes the loot there is still pretty good as well, but time to gold, I think WvW might be better now but haven’t run hours comparison to prove or deny.
Welcome back and good gaming!

Oh, how I love these forums. Literally everything gets shot down far before it’s even patched into the game, and every single release gets more negative feedback than positive. In the middle of this deep, toxic cesspool I must wonder: why do these people who seem to dislike everything Anet pushes out even bother playing the game?
The mounts will be implemented, like it or not. Complaining about it won’t make them go away, so why complain?
Quote from my signature:
“I’m finding companies should sell access to forums,
it seems many like them better than the games they comment on.” -Horrorscope.7632It’s the same question I ask myself, Hev. Some people are so negative about the game, they feel the need to complain and dissuade others from their enjoyment, because somewhere, deep down, the love they had was twisted into a venomous hatred.
It’s sad, really.
Sometimes yes but not always. Some people feel impassioned about things and want to share what they dislike to hope that input might be considered for future decisions. Example, Civilization V came out. To me there were so many things removed in the game compared to Civ IV. Posted on the forums there to state that would like to see features returned in future games and received a lot of you don’t like it too bad don’t play it go away. Main reason to post though was to provide feedback saying hey, you might think about this. Now here we get to Civ 6 and some of those features that were removed from IV to V are back in 6. So some back and fourth is valid. That said, don’t support either side if the answer is my way or the highway. There will never be a perfect game, but doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try and get there. There are features here I would love to see in ESO, and features in ESO I would like to see here. Probably peeps that play WoW could say the same. So keep constructive feedback coming and game on.
Oh and is it 9/22 yet?

I just want to know, when do we get gliding in WvW?
Quick, flanking aerial from the top of Stonemist to NE inner gate, their tail is out and their driver has engaged the lord, GOGOGO!
Just sayin…
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
I would trade home instances for player housing in a heart beat. I would like to set up my own area put things where I want it. Transfer all nodes to housing would be nice. then also you can use scribing to make your own decorations and furniture to fill your House.
Threw this out in a past player housing thread and still think it could work. I think if they were to add player housing it wouldn’t have to be mutually exclusive. Image the entry point to it could be from your home instance or a space in those home instances. That way you cover people that do and don’t want to add a custom touch to their homes. But I still want them to continue with allowing us to unlock/collect/buy things that enhance the value of that home instance.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
I hope that we have maps that can still utilize gliding. In a balanced map space air space = gliders, land/underground = mounts.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Actually find my home instance quite valuable. Hope they continue the trend of allowing us to unlock more gathering nodes in it. Play ESO as well and have no interest in the housing there since it adds no game play value in the regards of its a material sync versus gain. Guild halls already allow for player spaces that they can share and customize and players always have access to, whereas you need to invite someone in to see your home. What interests you on a home instance and what are you looking to do there?
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Well I see we have taken one step closer to being just another run of the mill generic MMO with the addition of mounts. So next xpac we will end up with gear progression. I mean we’ve had everything else added now that every other MMO under the sun has. Why stop now?
When guild wars 2 launched it was going to step away from traditional MMOs. But in truth it’s creeped slowly to being just like every other MMO out there. I guess ANet have finally run out of imagination and has to start adding the things that will make it just the same as the rest. Oh well.
Admit, had hoped that if they added mounts then they added mounted combat. Picture this, when mounted your 1-5 changes to be something associated to the mount. Combat would occur on the mount until dismounted, which could be done via various CC’s. These wouldn’t be a more powerful attack but would be the same for anyone using the same type of mount. Now with this in place they could introduce different ways to collect mounts be it from story, maps, achievements, gem store, crafting. This benefits in multiple ways: new abilities, new goals, new collections, new achievements, new material syncs, new sales, new reasons to have mounts when you have waypoints.
ANet or any other game developer that multi-games, food for thought please.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
wait what?? who needs 70 characters slots??? why?
Not there yet, but if you are an alt-o-holic its quite feasible. Example, thinking about adding 9 more for the new elites. You set toons based on various reasons and if you like them you might want to leave them in place for later play. If you PvP and WvW you might have other reasons to create and lock toons into play outside of that. Example: PvP Ranger, WvW Condi solo ranger, WvW range zerg Druid, Havoc range Druid, Havoc Condi trapper druid. Different jobs/gear/stats/pots/pets. Then there are fractals…..different builds based on other guildmates build to help balance a group or set for different fractals. And then some people love to just level or enjoy the journey to create and equip as they go or like a look of a toon.
In short, Anet for those that did max out you might consider upping the account max by at least 1 per new specialization unless it impacts a server hard limit on data storage which is doubtful.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Agree more guild content would be a plus. If its not in this expansion then it should be considered. You want guild to have more goals and things to work towards. Its added boons for people to work towards and it goes a long way in team building. People like to have goals and have tangible benefits when they work on things.
Suggestions for additional things to guilds to build/unlock:
- Crafting stations
- More potion boons
- More harvesting nodes (HoT, LS3, PoF)
- Bank merchants
- Mystic forge
- Map vendors, Tyria/HoT/LS, WvW, PvP, Fractal
- Jumping Puzzles w/ Chests
- New levels, new mission unlocks
- Test bots (Raids, PvP, Fractals)
In short you want more goals for guilds to work towards and you want the halls to be hubs. I say as a member of a smaller guild but with scaling based on guild count you could still create content that people could work towards. Once again its about the journey.
2 cents.

Really mounts…when there is a waypoint everywhere……and why can’t the old players like me get the new expansion for free….i had to buy the first game and last expansion and I didn’t get a new character slot or anything these ppl just had to buy the HoT got a new character slot and cheaper game…not fair for us old players
Wasn’t looking for mounts and was hoping for a bit more innovation from ANet considering what they did with gliding, but….why should an expansion be free? That makes no sense, and I have invested quite a bit on account upgrades but still wouldn’t expect an expansion to be free, that’s so far out of the normal can’t even think where that would come from. Vet players like us already have advantages built into things from daily rewards and free additions from living stories. If this was a subscription game could see your point, but its not. So WTW?

This is an older article but if you take a movie as fixed content where as games no longer are its even more impact-full:
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Well if that isn’t a big slap to the people who think the game is still alive!
No retail means that their last expansion didn’t sell as much as they thought, which is obvious due to the lack of rewarding content!
The new expansion was a bigger slap in the face, with the biggest joke revenant using old warriors longbow skills and guardians old tomes. All i saw in the trailers was same, redundant assets. Not even new mechanics to embrace gameplay(Because we don’t want to get the casuls out of their comfort zone and earn something new), even the mounts seemed like the zephyrite fiasco all over(with the crystals 1,2,3,4 abilities on skillbar).
Pretty disappointed, i thought they were going to turn this around, but instead they just reuse old concepts to get quick cash.
Quiet sad and disappointed reveal. I bought HoT without hesitation, but this one i’ll just ignore. Even the dev said there would be no progression so that means doing kitten that it isn’t rewarding.
I actually work in retail and distribution, this is now actually the industry norm. Very little software is now being produced in the traditional hardcopy format that would allow for a retail release outside of digital content. Even video distribution is falling by the wayside as digital releases becomes more the standard. Physical distribution is expensive and means you have to freeze content in place to ship which then still relies on a connection to update for changes and fixes, so why create that extra expense. Don’t let the lack of a retail release impact your decision.

id orefer a magic find cap increase to 500
As long as the amount of luck needed grows geometrically instead of just linearly. Otherwise, we’d just max out sooner, if not later.
There are times when diminishing returns works and when it doesn’t it. To me here is one it does. Ideally extend the cap and have each percent above the current cap be a another doubling or more of the previous requirements.

Have to agree the new user experience has vastly changed since you have been gone and has a whole system of tips and next up’s built in that it would be well worth the time to start at level 1 and go from there. Save the booster once you want to start alt-ing. The wiki is a good resource but its that, a resource to point question to as you go if the in game details weren’t enough. Mind you wiki is player managed and edited so there might be some info that could be off but the wiki people do put in a lot of time to maintain. Welcome back and hope that you enjoy!
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
That’s an interesting idea. Not sure it would have to be after max MF though either. It would simply mean EoL would be a new type of currency, which it kind of already is, but have more than one reason. This would probably need some stats run on numbers players can’t see to understand current unbound magic supply compared to EoL generated and how this would impacted the items gated behind the vendors needed Unbound magic as part of the price. If the new zone uses a dual currency system with each map a different single component but common second the same concept could work there.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
I think this works for a few reasons. One there are no normal zone cut-thrus for most of the new maps giving the player feeling that it is detached and its on the frontier. I think this is also to get the players used to new maps that will have waygates if any and will allow the introduction of further alternate ways to travel.
Since opening the map only requires the player to run thru mostly intro missions it also doesn’t take much to do that first step to get to the map. After that its up to the player on far they go to unlock the zone scrolls that also allow all alts to skip those first steps, but they are not required.
Since these are suppose to be steps that are “in the future” compared to where a starting player starts the game I can also see a reason to have a little more separation on how you get there.
I think the new expansion will act more like HoT as well where there will be some story arc to get us into the new area and zone inter-connectors from there.
As far as time invest, I think it would have taken longer to have run all the way thru the maps to get to each next one if that was possible then it did to do the story required to just open each of the LS3 stories episodes.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Anyway…. if it is about toughness, how in the world do I have the most toughness out of every single player in the game. I use Soldier’s stats for my Herald. It’s the reason why I can outlive everyone’s precious Berserkers against any enemy, but that doesn’t mean I want to be a tank. I’m there to give boons and keep everyone else alive, not be a tank. Why can’t there be a more clear aggro system. It shouldn’t be determined by 8 or more vague concepts simultaneously. If there’s no rigid party roles, why am I forced to be a tank without any actual aggro control.
Soliders is PVT and outside of WvW is considered very tanky. As a base build soliders is very good, but it will pull mobs. I typically don’t change my gear out when I hit PvE and leave my WvW gear on and draw a lot of aggro from random mobs since I am speced expecting a zerg to descend on me over the next hill. So yes if you continue to go that route, expect to have scooby snacks in your pockets and every beast to come a callin. Good hunting!
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
If you feel this way you may want to investigate other games and wait out the reviews. There may be things I don’t like but ANet’s track record is pretty good on additional content including things to do and new places to explore. Will it be 100%, probably not but I look forward to seeing what they have to offer. Good gaming!

Actually, it was likely one. My haste in the irritation saying it was two.
Still….. a duplicate rare item should re roll on the rare item table. Not just go “Meh, you’ve already been lucky before”, and getting a key back.
It’s like playing roulette and getting your number again after winning, and the dealer saying….uh sorry, you’re already won. I’m just going to give you your bet back.
This is wrong and it’s not cool.
Wait, how did you get a key back? Support ticket or did they add something to the system to handle duplicates? As a fellow gambler have dealt with a lot of doubles and counted that as cost of gambling but hadn’t heard of this key return bit.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Have to agree a 2K price tag is fine all things considered. When you think about you no longer would have to replace those pieces with others as you change builds and remove all those other ascended pieces. In effect you are turning ascended pieces into junk loot for you, so yeah, 2K would be reasonable and that price will fall over time unless more material syncs are added in to create demand for the crafting materials. ANet has been adding more and more ways to get ascended pieces in that its effectively replacing exotic so having the bleeding edge of gear cost a lot is good game balance.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
In general liked it and had fun. Based on expansion news got a feel of where we were going and who we were going to fight, more on that after the 1st once we see if those thoughts were right or wrong. But there were some issues and wanted to share some feedback:
- Self Doubt, doing it while grouped meant that the player starting the instance was effectively alone since party members were confined to the balcony and had 2 skills that couldn’t reach outside of the balcony. It also meant party members spent that time trying to find ways out and missed what was going on. If we are meant to just watch them would recommend some other mechanic since this method left the players feeling as it was a bug that they needed to try and free themselves from.
- Bloodstone trap puzzles seemed inconsistent. Will have to replay this bit again and see if it was a bug.
- Spacing the living stories so far apart and having such core changes in what we were doing made the episodes feel more dis-jointed. Starting replaying them back to back and they feel more connected that way, but if that method is used moving forward then probably that opening mission/note needs to recap what is going on. Compared to other living stories these all did feel more disparate and it seemed the only common thread was everyone to be more snarky to the player character. If this was a cooking show then I would say the common ingredient was attitude. Self Doubt was probably the best tie in as it compiled all the issues from the episodes together when manifesting the doubts.
- Liked the new map, having to buy the waypoints was interesting and appreciated the fact that they were account based. Having to run from one side of the map to the other was rough but I could also see this as a transition period if things from leeks turn out to be true, no more about that for now.
- New ascended back piece, appreciate the fact that its there but can’t see how it won’t be transmuted. Think it would have been more fun and interesting if each temple had had a different skin that was of interest encouraging players to gather them all.
- Consistent gathering methods across zones. Again I’ll have to visit each of the LS3 maps again but it seems like each zone required different methods to gather unbound magic which felt disjointed. Appreciate the 2 price price structure and that each map required its own unique item but gathering unbound magic in differing ways felt off.
- New maps versus Silverwastes. Admit I use Silverwastes as a meteric when thinking about new maps since to me it seems to flow better than most. Main change I would have done to Silverwastes is only made the Lost Bandit chests available during the timeout period with a longer time period of availability assigned to a successful meta event but still open for a short period on a failed event. That said the replay-ability there comes from a build up of events that leads to larger rewards and a final zone event. That way you can still solo as you want but will need more people the more the event advances. You need to have things at risk and have events that require the players to commit to doing things to help advance the map. Tarir has that same kind of feel during it’s map meta event. Do I work on this side or does south need more help. The LS3 maps don’t have that kind of feel and I think all new maps do. Again, core concept in MMOs is progression and maps need to have that same feeling of progressing to something bigger and if you don’t you are going to miss out on something.
Good hunting!

Let’s see if I can figure out this high-falutin’ spoiler thing so as to provide the solution for those who want it.
Any beam you hit flips the two spots next to it between on/off. So you choose your placement to generate sets of three beams crowded by each other, then hit the middle beam of each trio to turn them off.
Got past this and saw that pattern as well, but it wasn’t 100%. Not sure if that was a bug or not. Ran it twice and on second pass seems more like it was time based versus patterned. That said haven’t done another time after patches so….

I think I wouldn’t chance this one. Since you are triggering different abilities with the same key it is probably violating the policy. That said if this done hardware side and the software is being sent 4 and 5 I don’t think it would show that to the hardware actually used Q for both since it would need to actually apply 4 and 5 in game aka software side. The intent was to prevent people from chaining skills and auto-playing by allowing for single key hits for different abilities. 2 cents.

Checked the World statuses just a few minutes ago and NSP has opened.
As I understand things, this means the Population Algorithm has responded to WvW activity on NSP dropping below the benchmark, but I’m not sure its been able to discern why.
NSP currently has two links, and they were able to push up into T2, but now is open.
Made me think about players boycotting a matchup, and whether servers will open because there is new content to play and activity will possibly wane for a bit.
Anyone with insight on this and whether the algorithm would be affected by a boycott to playing in a particular matchup?
Based on previous threads the algorithm should be multi-week and account for things like this unless it is sustained population decreases.

Still finding a lot of fights for roamers/havocs on various maps. This also includes maps that are full since even when there are zergs there will be tails to pick on and people that will squirrel. And since GW2 is buy once and play whenever you can re-install and check for yourself all for the price of the time it takes to download and install. Good hunting!

Excited as well. Hoping its our news of expansion, but the problem with hype is that it can be a let down. That’s why its a fine balance between news and hype. Right now ANet’s direction is in no news is good news which is on the other extreme of hype. Hoping they can better balance that since right now when we try and share news with guildies out of game currently they ask what the official word is before they consider returning and the bleak truthful answer is, well there isn’t any….That said, is it 5 yet?
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Clogging up inventory would imply WvW gives enough loot to actually take up much space … are you actually keeping blues and greens around to vendor or something? O_o
A player might be carrying upwards of 20 slots of seige/trick/traps, 22+ of WvW gear ranging from foods/utils to differing gears and weapons and then whatever else they might have for other game mods. Would be a funny stat if it was at all track-able to know the number of deaths caused by players clearing bags as they run.
I admit I am a packrat, but I also run with all potential bags and max shared inventory and could see how people might quickly fill up their space if they were weren’t doing so. And since map queues are currently higher odds are if your toon doesn’t have stuff you need and its on another toon you might not be playing if you switch to get it. Though this does have a price attached for not being prepared its a bit steep. Good hunting!
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Really appreciate Linsey Murdock’s work on expanding the collection’s storage (love her long time). This is a QoL though that should be updated each time new materials and maps are added. There are more than enough other items/armor/skin/widgets in game that players will find to fill their storage that will still spark sales in inventory storage expansions outside of crafting/zone mats that are now more of a priority to store. Expansion of key chains & wallets are also high on those lists though if those items are seen differently then materials in storage, which I could see why they are. Anyone that runs solo or in a havoc in WvW can attest to how much siege you might need to carry. I am fairly confident it has helped sales in shared inventory slots(yes ANet we need a few more of those too please) as well. Any HoT PvEr can also attest to how many slots differing keys for that each zone acquires. You have to remember that the average player is looking to play. Aka if you require them to stop and go back to a bank to acquire items for a zone they just as likely to skip that activity then stop and go get items needed to play that activity from a bank or another toon. Its a lost sale at that point and people just might as well decide to go play another game.
So +10 here for expanding any wallets and keychains. Players that already buy bag/bank expansions will do so anyway since we are packrats and those that don’t now probably wouldn’t ever anyway. Plus odds are only more stuff will added in the future since shinny is of the now and is dull tomorrow and therefore new shinnies are needed then. Good gaming!

Not in favor of this idea.
Plok, I can understand the sentiment. Have seen this feature in other games like ESO. Likewise have a fully stocked Guild Hall and have helped a number of home instances acquire nodes. That said I am not for it here. The reason for this is based on your own statement:
“TL;DR: home instance + guild hall nodes gathering is hardly worthwhile anymore.”
The reason it is not worth it is simply supply versus demand. By adding an NPC you only further increase supply which further drives down the demand and therefore value of those said items. We need further demands for materials to have them have more value. Auto gathers work in ESO since it is first come first serve on any open world node limiting supply. GW2 people are more in favor in things that require less and less materials to acquire which further drives down demand. I would prefer to offer value to those actually doing gathering versus the impact on further reducing demand. Good gathering!
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
The OP has many other skins to choose from, but they want one that has very little ways to collect so they are part of the group creating the demand.
“many other skins to choose from”?
Please name me the many other normal scythes in this game.
I got Nightwish which is the next best thing, but that’s still not a normal scythe
In this case I was referring to staffs where as you were scythes. Agree not the same. But that is also because you are targeting a staff with a particular format. You have chosen a staff appearance that is quite rare. I am not opposed to new ones that are scythe-like but not in favor of removing rarity from the game that has passed. I like the fact that when I see something an older player has and ask them about it is something from prior events and not available. That adds depth since this is game is a living game, things change and that what once was may not be again.
As I said not opposed to newer different skins that are more plan and fit what you might be looking for, but other people have dealt with this in the past. There was a high demand for Lightwards Battlestaff after more melee focused demand came about. Instead of upping the drop rate more staffs that looked melee functional were added. That’s a better solution then flooding the drop rates with the more rare weapon. Once again people need goals and when you remove them it just cheapens that it for people that already acquired it.
As far as staffs that are scythe like (and yes had gone thru what you are) Final Rest is a good one as a substitute, another is Great Destroyer Talon and though in the same feel but less of a scythe, The Crossing.
Good collecting!

I do wonder why they have a limit on this. Technical reason maybe or just some decision along the way that someone said, who would have more than 70 toons? This does seem like one that if its just a system setting would make sense to change.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
Don’t have this skin unlocked nor have any in storage or for sale. That said I prefer things like this not be made easier to acquire. You want things of value out there like this. if anything would also like to see more ultra rare drops that have limited numbers out that in which people might get lucky to see as a drop. There needs to be things of luxury value in game for people to try and acquire.
Completely disagree. It is basically artificial scarcity.
If this were the ultimate skin, worthy of the best legendary, then I could see price wars over it. As it is it is only expensive because there is no other option that even comes close.
Look at it in real life. It would be like charging a trillion dollars US for, oh, a broken mood ring. Something whose sole virtue was nobody was bothering to make it anymore. (now someone will google and prove it is still made, not the point though)
In real life already people will buy and resell goods later after they are no longer available and prices will skyrocket even for things that have many substitutes. This is a common in various collectibles fields. Hence another reason I am OK with this. The OP has many other skins to choose from, but they want one that has very little ways to collect so they are part of the group creating the demand.
De Mortuis Nil Nisi Bonum.
I hope they come up with something very like what ESO has, except without the insane mats grind and low item slots per house (each item takes a slot, so a spoon costs you as much allotment as a huge wood platform).
Add in choices of buildings and placement in housing areas thereof, and GW2 housing will be amaaaaazing.
I admit, the ESO housing has zero interest since it has no function outside of a coin/material sync. If it was more like Skyrim then that would be different. To me the home instance and Guild Halls have more value since you can acquire materials from them and do things like crafting. That said for the people that like the ESO model I could see how they could fit housing space into the home instances and allow for both functionality and give people things to acquire/build for their home. A separate place in the instance that people can then setup but the nodes, chests, racks that are already designated would be accessible in the portion that the player does not change.
