Current Version Available: Version 0.5
Version Date: 10/12/2012

Synopses

We all know the story behind legendary weapons. We’re aware of how difficult and challenging they are, and just how many materials and steps are required to make them. So, what if it was easier? What if you could just plug in what you have, and see what you have left to collect?

I’ve created an Excel calculator that does just that. Currently, it just works for Sunrise, but I intend to expand to every single legendary very soon, after collecting some feedback from all of you.

What This Calculator Does

  • Provides a detailed list of the ingredients and recipes for every legendary weapon component and sub-component
  • Provides an interface for inputting your current resource pool to calculate remaining resources
  • Provides individual and total costs, separated into various currencies
  • Provides accurate, up-to-date costs of each item, updated on spreadsheet load (not available in Feedback Version)

How This Calculator Works

It couldn’t be simpler. You’ll see several columns. In the Number Owned (WHITE) column, just enter the number of resources you currently own; the calculator will do the rest! All your information will be available in the right-most collumn.

Planned Updates

  • Implement live updating prices, powered by www.GW2Spidy.com
  • Add every legendary as a separate sheet on the same file
  • Consider adding % complete columns at a later date (requires forumula rewrites or some unique workarounds)
  • Properly password protect the sheets so only the input column is editable. Current version is locked but has no password
  • Add recipe costs. Should I add locations as well
  • Add crafting types/requirements (like how Bifrost requires 400 Cooking and 400 Artificer)

What I Need From You

  • Feedback – Tell me what features you like and hate, what should be reorganized, and if anything should be moved around.
  • Ideas – Any new features you would like to see added?
  • Support – Any words of encouragement to keep me going. I initially planned this as a paid tool for fan sites, but I’ve decided to go public with this knowledge. Show me I did the right thing with an encouraging post!

Download Link
Currently I am only able to provide a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file. In future versions I plan to make this more universally accessible for those of you on macs or without the software. This file CAN be opened in Google Docs, although it cannot be edited there.

Bill of Materials for Legendaries

in Crafting

Posted by: Theta Zero.9023

Theta Zero.9023

Yes, although things to note include the fact that you use globs of ectoplasm both as a seperate material and as a submaterial for mystic clovers, and also that mystic clovers are about a 33% success rate (so multiply those material costs by 3 to get a more e realistic average.

The rest looks right to me, off top of my head.

Hello all im new and need a little help on starter class selection

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Theta Zero.9023

Theta Zero.9023

Really, it depends on your playstyle. Every class has different aspects that benefit them. Elementalists are super versitile, thieves have no cooldown and instead use initiative, rangers get pets, engineers get special guns and turrets, warriors do more damage/better bonuses when the skills are properly timed, etc etc.

Each class plays completely different; not just because of the weapons they use, but also because of how their class gimick operates. Elementalist is definately an advanced class, and personally I feel Thief is too, as the lack of cooldown makes it very fast paced. I would recommend a guardian or a warrior; the higher defense on those allows you to take a little more time with your skill selection. Ranger is also a popular choice since your pet can function as a second player, helping attack or draw agro from you.

I’d love them to be closer to their finalized price.

Many people who started the game sooner, or rushed to level 80, were able to farm gold and net precursers for 50g or so. Those of us who take their time to enjoy the game and 100% things are forced to pay 250g and rising.

I'm having some issues with the economy, loot, and gear (long)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Theta Zero.9023

Part of the problem is that you’re looking at “max gear” as a requirement, when the reality is that rares, or even masterwork gear, will suffice. Does max gear help? Certainly. Is it required to run dungeons, finish events, or kill endgame bosses? No, it isn’t.

Endgame gear SHOULD be a grind, because it’s your final set of weapon and armor. I agree with you that the grind is quite extensive (and inflation currently benefits a select few; Legendary costs have spiked nearly 4x in cost in the last two weeks) but the grind is very specific to optional items that hold no significant value to gameplay, only aesthetics.

Now the cash sinks, I do agree with you on. Goldsinks are necessary, but let’s be honest; If the cost of waypointing requires getting 5-6 drops just to even out the cost, it becomes not worth the trip.

Not sure where to post this, but hopefully this is it.

There are several fan sites up (spidy is a key example) where these sites pull in-game Trade Price information and update it daily. I would like to work with this data to make some useful tools for the community, but I’m confused as to where the data is pulled from, or if it’s somehow manually updated by the site hosts.

Several other game companies have provided URL links to item data via market prices shown on their own site, or even tools for fan-sites including links to frequently-updated text sheets of this information. Is anything like this available with Anet and Guild Wars 2?

Every class has a little gimick. Other than that they play similarly; select weapons, do damage, heal as needed.

Thief – Initiative – No cooldown on skills, just a global pool of points which acts as one global cooldown. A very fastpaced class.

Warrior – Adrenaline – Timing of skills, and holding off on using certain skills until certain points, is key. A slower, tankier class.

Guardian – Buffs and auras.

Necromancer – Summoned Minions – Management of multiple “pets” is important, as they do a fair bit of work for you.

Ranger – Pets – Pet selection can determine your (and its) role in combat. An easy class to learn, but a large pool of weapon selections and skills. As basic or complicated as you want to make it.

Mesmer – Illusions and debuffs – This class is all about careful management and timing of your illusions and clones. Not much of a damage class, but definately more of a debuff class.

Elementalist – No weapon swap; in return, you get 4 times the skills per weapon, and the most versitility of any class. Relatively weak defensively without the proper skills, but naturally powerful offensively, even without skills. The core kiting class.

Engineer – Never played one, not really sure of their gimicks. I hear it has something to do with their kits.

Any of these classes can play as a tank, a glass cannon, a debuffer, a buffer, or anything in between. Certain ones excell at certain playstyles, but every class plays differently due to these gimicks. Choose a gimick you like; for me, the theif was too fast paced, but the versitility of the elementalist (Jack of all trades, master of none) really appealed to me.

Theta Zero.9023

My suggestion would be to make the same dungeon equipment a rare drop from dungeons; that is to say, while youre grinding tokens you may get a drop, reducing your overall token cost, but still allowing you to buy parts if youre unlucky with drops.

I do also like the idea of a generic token curency or shared curency among multiple dungeons.

"Training" Mobs, What is it and STOP IT!!!

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Theta Zero.9023

Theta Zero.9023

Ive been guilty of this, though not always intentionally.

Sometimes I’ll forget to switch spells and hit a mob with Chain Lightning or some similar AOE. When an entire camp of bandits is agroed on me, do you really want me to stand there and die? Im going to run like hell, and if I happen to run past you, I suggest you run out of the way or turn tail with me.

There isn’t always a mountain to climb or a place to avoid mobs. Sometimes running is the only option, and stopping to plan a route that goes around you will get me killed, so I go the shortest route with the fewest additional mobs that result in me running even LONGER; quite often the area you just cleared out.

Permanent stat bonuses (Need Advice)

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Theta Zero.9023

Theta Zero.9023

My understanding is that those bonuses apply to that weapon’s skills. If it’s in a 2H weapon, it works for all 5 skills. If it’s in a main hand weapon, only skills 1, 2 and 3 get the benefit. If it’s in an offhand slot, skills 4 and 5 recieve the bonus.

Magic find obsession needs to be addressed

Theta Zero.9023

It is selfish to judge others by their equipment and not their utility.

If you were to play another MMO, would you enjoy having the cleric kicked for low dps because utility was judged by a dps meter? What if you were regularly kicked because you used rares and couldnt afford exotics, so now you cant run the dungeons to GET exotics?

The point here is, you may have a point, players should put the group above their own pockets. However, its not your place to decide if they should be kicked for it or not. Youre being selfish by trying to control what equipment they use and what level they are at. If theyre skilled enough to run the instace, let them!

Thats my view, anyway.

Your experience with your profession

Theta Zero.9023

I started this game as a theif (now 14), liking the idea of the initiatve system and the overall burst damage (I gravitate towards burst damage classes in most games). I adored the lack of cooldowns on skills, but this led to a faster paced game than I anticipated; constant skill spam was required because the defense was lacking. This meant knowing what each skill on my quickbar did, when the right situation to use it was, and an understanding of multiple weapon sets; a bit overwhelming for someone new to using the keyboard to activate skills. I found myself constantly hitting the wrong keys or struggling to move and attack at the same time, because Im simply more used to using the mouse to select skills.

I decided to reroll my character and now play a level 21 elementalist, and I couldn’t be happier. 20 skills per weapon means I have the variety I want, with a reasonable mix of healing skills, defensive skills, AOE’s, and damage dealing skills. They’re all neatly organized as well! The sheer versitility makes me quite happy; I can’t count the number of times I’ve chain lightninged a group of 3-4 enemies to death, called down firey death from above on an event cluster of 20+ mobs, or just healed my quest NPC while he tanked for me (my thief always had a problem with quest partner NPC’s dying on him…) And of course, the run speed boosts are just a huge plus since she’s my 100% exploring character.

I look forward to trying out the warrior or guardian next, as a more defensive class.

I would agree with lowering this on lower graphics settings. I don’t personally have a problem with this (and come on, 3+ meteor storms going at once is always fun) but the sheer amount of objects and particles must be taxing on lower end systems.

Don’t change this overall, just add a particle rendering cap option. (if that makes sense)

Are the drops DPS based? Do the chests only appear if you are in the top (50?) players? There are several games I’ve played in the past with similar mechanics.

This would also explain random event bosses I’ve fought with no rewards…

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Theta Zero.9023

I adore my elementalist. You can switch your builds to work around anything; glass cannon, bleed/defensive build, hell, you can even play cleric. You can even pick and choose your skills based on if you’re facing 1 or multiple enemies. And that’s just with one weapon combo!

From what I hear it’s immensely lacking in PvP, but for PvE I’ve found it to be a lot of fun. A bit squishy, but if the enemies can’t get to you, what does it matter? :P
