Oh yeah…Uhm…
What armor?
The best time I have in this forum is always spent simply scrolling through interesting topics and +1 -ing.
But every time I reply to something, my post always seems to come back and bite me in the butt. Take this patch as an example. Considering my run of luck, if I were to post anything good or bad I’d be immediately burned at the stake.
So what do you like about the forum…?
And the little monsters that tend to inhabit it?
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
+1 weapons
From what I’ve seen, they look nice enough to be better than some exotics, but not nice enough to completely ruin legendaries. The design is minimalistic enough not to overly distract while still looking nice, and the body of the weapon is streamlined and creative.
+1 Armor
I’ve seen all ascended armor previews (on an Asuran frame), and I love them. The design is interesting; I love the jester theme of the light armor. The Heavy armor is cool looking, nice asymmetrical balance and use of line. Medium armor is okay. The helm is a bit different, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. I think with the right colors the medium armor could look really nice. It has a sort of foreign look about it, which makes sense considering the whole “ascended” background in GW1.

I must have missed it. Where in the game can it be found?
Oooh. Very subtle veiled criticism.
I like it.
Thanks for all the tips, and thanks for not raging against me (though I could’ve done without any veiled criticism—if you have something to say, just say it and stop beating around the bush).
The biggest problem was that I was new to the dungeon, as I have already mentioned, and, therefore, was not prepared. I usually carry multiple weapon sets, but I just recently got impatient with my money and sold most of them, so I was woefully unprepared for any switches.
As for knowing my class…Well, I know it, but the only weapons I had weren’t suited for some of the content (‘cause I sold ’em :d) which would be why I said I was a bit useless. (It would have probably been best to emphasize bouncy, cloney mesmers were a bit useless instead of lumping them all together.) I don’t particularly mind being told to “L2P [your class]”, but I would like to clear up that it was more me being unprepared for a new dungeon than being a total noob at mesmer.
That’s kind of understandable, right? I just wished we had the chance to finish. Hopefully my next attempt will be completed successfully (with a variety of weapon sets, of course, now that I know that they’re absolutely essential).
And there are always TV critics to get in the way of something or another.
Percentage of players who use hair. 100%
I’m bald, actually.
(but I’m happy for the people with hair)
Well darn.
But, hey. Maybe we saw a glimpse of the future
Any experiment is always worth it.
It shows us what to do and what not to do next time.
It had to happen eventually, and I’m glad it happened now.
Good going :]
I, unfortunately, still haven’t killed him—with 6 minutes left or otherwise…
Same thing happened to me. Maybe they changed it without telling us?
Let’s get some testing!
Keep in mind that this is not a criticism of the dungeon. It’s more of a vent about my frustrations with the community’s anti-completionist attitudes during difficult situations.
(I hope I worded it in such a way that it doesn’t insult anyone)

So, I joined a party for the new path in Twilight Arbor dungeon, knowing that it can be frustrating for some people, knowing that many parties in the past have been completely dissolved due to this frustration.
Well, I’m alone now, halfway through, and trying to figure out where the heck I went wrong.
Our party consisted of two warriors and two guardians…and me, a mesmer. Needless to say I felt a little out of place and useless compared to them.
We were doing fine up until the ooze bit. Then, all of a sudden, things got…oozy.
It seemed that there was some sort of language barrier between at least one of the players, so she had some difficulties understanding directions. The one other warrior didn’t seem as experienced as the other two. As for me…well, Mesmers have one pull and several bouncing attacks (not to mention bothersome clones), so after trying desperately to avoid killing the oozes (and failing), I decided to stand back and let the warriors and tanks take care of things. There were a couple of times when I seriously considered leaving the dungeon entirely, but I stuck with it, hoping that it would pay off. Eventually we finished.
Next up was the Sparki and Slick fight. Not too bad. For me, anyway. I’m sure all the wipes we had (around 3 or 4) attributed to the probably “pro” dungeoneers’ frustrations. But again, eventually we killed them.
Finally, we had to start killing off the machines generating the holo-pirates while contending with some manic steam bots. Apparently, this was the last straw for one of the guardians who just up and left after wiping.
Fine. That’s fine. We’ll just get another player.
We found a warrior, tried running in there again (one of the other players were kicked for…whatever reason in the process…and replaced with another mesmer). One of the generators in the room was already destroyed; the other was about half down. The first person (warrior, I think) went running into the mob of holograms like a maniac and promptly died shouting, “kill helo!!” I assume this was because a couple members of the group weren’t attacking the generators. I wouldn’t know. I was attacking it just fine. However, after he died, the warrior up and left us.
Again…eventually we destroyed the machine (minus that warrior).
But that’s when things started falling apart. First went the guardian…then went the warrior…Then I thought my fellow mesmer would stick around and finish the dungeon with me. Nope. After a rather wry “wow”, she (or he…whoever) up and left me as well. Understandable.
I guess.
So, now I’m left sitting here in the middle of a dungeon, twiddling my thumbs, waiting for new members. Think anyone will join me halfway through?
Heh. Yeah right. I’ll just try again later.
(Interesting morsel of information: after the warrior left, the party wasn’t disbanded. He was the group leader, by the way. It’s weird…but nice. Even though I’ll probably just give up, I’m bitterly glad we weren’t all kicked when he left.)

I like most of the skins. Some don’t really fit in with my tastes, but I can see why others would like them. I also like the ascended armor sets. I find them fun to look at, different, charming, intricate, and honestly beautiful.
I haven’t really felt like I’m missing out on anything for not getting skins from Black Lion stores and chests, though. I have a bunch other skins in-game to make up for it.
As for new armor additions, I’m sure they won’t stop at ascended. I don’t think they will be “better looking” because I don’t mind how the ascended armor looks, but I’m positive those looks won’t be the only ones in the future.
Beauty is, after all, in the eye of the beholder /cliche
I don’t know why people think death is so easily ‘flauntable’.
She knows how to stop the Elder Dragons’ rampage. That’s the only way I can think of the character actually being used for something. Or she at least knows more about the dragons sucking Tyria dry of magic.

You might actually get more clear-cut feedback from checking in on something positive. If a complimentary thread like this is turned almost immediately sour, then I guess you know you have a problem.
Checking negative threads for feedback is difficult as it requires sorting through actual feedback and mindless complaining (something negative threads kind of promote).
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
She’s obviously a slave to the Elder Dragons.

Every time I click on a post like this, I just expect a massive PSYCH. Then the author goes on to complain about one thing or another.
I’m glad some people still have the heart to post things like this.
Tell you what, replace them with ads. Even THAT would be more interesting than seeing the current nag text.
Slow down, there. I wouldn’t go that far.
I just really, sincerely hope we’ll all be able to look back on this day and think, “How could we have ever hated Scarlet?”
Just please don’t ever mention hiring new writers. Self-improvement is much more important than having someone do all the work for you (even if it’s quality work).
Plus it’s more impressive, memorable, and gives everyone a boost in morale, which can lead someone to do even more impressive things in the future.

Millions of people left WoW when other big name MMOs came out. It’s not like it can’t happen here. Not sure why you’d make that argument. I’m not advocating that it’ll happen here; I actually want WvW to continue to build on the things people really enjoy about this game of large scale warfare. Only don’t take things away from the community as a result, and throw massive buffs around that tip the scales so much. The devs need to retract some things as failed experiments from time to time.
I was just demonstrating how Google instant results don’t prove anything. It seems that most online games get these results when typing “[Game] is…”
I got the same thing for Final Fantasy XIV and it just came out…There’s also similar results for Rift, SWTOR, EVE, LOTRO, Tera, Allods, Runes of Magic, Darkfall, etc. Stick ‘a’ in there and things get even more interesting.
If we take Google’s word for it, everything seems to be dead, dying, terrible, horrible, free, easy, hard, pay-to-win, and boring. I think Google is just the world’s biggest pessimist (makes sense when someone thinks about where it gets these results).
Anyway, I only chose WoW because it’s the game most people easily relate to (in terms of MMOs). The quote was really just a quip to counter your quip. It was never my intention to make any argument about WoW whatsoever.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
Google doesn’t lie…
I get the same thing for WoW…so, yeah. Take it how you want.
In other news, our server had Bloodlust for a very long time, and we still lost pitifully.
Therefore, the buff can be overcome.
Probably
Perhaps they just need to balance the buff a bit in order to make things enticing but not worthless.
But isn’t Bloodlust any easier at all than getting the Orb of Power? All one needs is a small group of 3-5 people or so to take Bloodlust from my experience. Stealing an Orb was a fairly large undertaking built for medium to large zergs.
This way, one could strategically divide some people up in either EB or one of the Borderlands and go take Bloodlust without a massive reduction in the army as (opposed to focusing the brunt of one’s force on taking an Orb). Therefore, I truly think their intention of supporting smaller groups in WvW worked out to a certain extent, and to this end, was successful.
Maybe it doesn’t work out as well as some players believe, but I don’t think anyone should give up on it yet. After all, basically it’s just a reworked version of the Orbs of Power.
Many people thought that the idea for the Orbs was discarded for good, but here it is again, in a different form. And if Bloodlust ends up being discarded as well, I’d be willing to bet that the same concept will make a comeback in some way or another.

No, because employees in the past have tried to stop people and been stabbed or shot as a result. And then the employees can sue the store and easily win so they made it policy that you are NOT supposed to do that.
Not from my experiences in these stores. If someone is accused of shop-lifting, the customer can give the store crap. A whole lot of it. Whether they’re guilty or not (a la criminals who sue their victims).
There are now only a few designated people that can act against it as a result (and it’s not very effective, either). These “higher-ups” are only allowed by corporate to follow the person without accusing them. Of course, employees have taken this a step further and developed the “microwave” technique (keep asking if they need help, if they’ve found everything until the shop-lifter gets nervous—basically killing them with kindness).
All they can really hope for is that they put what they stole back.
But employees in these stores can’t actually do anything about it directly (and not out of fear of being attacked).
Again, my only point is that saying, “the customer is always right,” forces the company to deal with ridiculous litigious issues from people with a bloated sense of self-importance (self-importance that is ironically often caused by the customer-king policy).
Here’s another example: There was another issue just recently of a Klu Klux Klan leader being denied service for being what he is. As a result, this person sued the establishment and won for being discriminated against.
The customer-king policy doesn’t get much more ironic than this.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
Just because someone is told the “customer is always right” doesn’t make it true. I’ve seen and heard of customers who are blatantly wrong, but the employees can’t do anything about it out of fear of being sued/fired/beaten/punished in some way.
They just have to grit their teeth and bear it.
At the end of the day, it’s very refreshing seeing an employee actually act like a reasonable human being instead of a freakin’ automaton.
For example, in many retail stores, if an employee sees someone shop-lifting, they are forbidden to do anything about it, ’cause employees have tried in the past, and the customer has sued the store as a result (and won).
Then there are the people who openly beat their children in stores. If an employee asks them to “calm down”, they’re punished by their superior.
In pet stores, if the employee is unable to take someone’s pet guinea pig, the customer throws the animal at them.
Fast food workers are constantly berated for every little thing they do by the customers.
People have sued companies for microwaving their wet cats because “there wasn’t a warning telling them not to.”
My point is that it is an enormous risk assuming that “customers are always right” because it pigeon-holes the company into putting up with a huge range of horrible things customers can do under that ridiculous protection.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
Consumers as a whole are always so quick to blame. From fast food restaurants to video game companies, customers take the littlest things and go to town with them, claiming their “rights” or “feelings” were woefully violated.
There are many consumers who are just real jerks. Anyone who has worked at a fast food restaurant, restaurant, or retail store would agree.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
That’s definitely not boring :d
I took it a step further — I quit logging in 2 weeks ago, and it’s awesome. Without a doubt, that was the best decision I’ve made regarding this game yet.
I may log in again for the Mad King event, but maybe not.
Me too, and I’ve started questioning what the heck am
I playing for? I got bored and haven’t logged in for days.
Play for fun and fancy skins, like GW1 good old days.
+1.Tbh WvW would have been my main endgame focus trown in the mix, but the latest Anet decisions have pretty much killed any interest in it for now..
This is basically the same as not posting anything at all. At least try to explain why you stopped.
For me, I’ve kept on going with the Living Story and WvW/PvP because I enjoy the feeling of immersion and enjoyment of participating seamlessly in the world and events with dozens of other people.
To top it all off, the Dynamic Events are a wonderful breath of fresh air from all the other generic MMOs on the market. Even a year after release, I really couldn’t picture myself playing anything else.
So, why did the Living Story and/or WvW (etc.) drive you away?
Was it the lack of rewards? Challenge? Bugs? Prices? Entertainment value? What would make it more entertaining?
What specific decisions did the developers make that played a role in driving you away from certain content or the game entirely?
What specific features would you like to see added and/or returned to their former glory (features that might bring you back)?
What were your expectations that weren’t adequately met?
This is Guild Wars 2 Discussion. Let’s get discussing.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
As a general rule, I hate achievements and champ runs, so I’ve been playing fancy-free since release and having a blast. That said, I still enjoy the LS—not because I have to but because I want to. Just to have fun.
Minus the bothersome achievements, of course.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
I appreciate it, Drakkon. Those links were very useful.
Just to try to better explain myself: I’ve tried to avoid wasting people’s time, so I did my best to inspect Charr armor prior to posting. I honestly don’t think it looks so bad, which is why I asked for picture examples.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
This isn’t a “cleverly” disguised criticism of why Charr armor is terrible but a real, honest-to-goodness question.
What is it about Charr armor that so many people dislike? I have a Charr character and despite that, I haven’t had armor that I thought looked ugly. I also don’t remember seeing characters in the world with armor that I considered terrible.
I’ve already tried searching for picture examples of why many people hate Charr armor, but I’ve come up empty. If possible, could someone give me photos that show the true flaws in Charr armor? Preferably with comparisons of similar armor on different races that’s pulled off well.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
I guess adding more payment options for Gems would be a good start.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
Oh, come on. You can hardly make a judgment with what’s shown on the screenshot. Much of what makes a build good or bad largely runs in the background, which is definitely not shown here.
Anywho, would this be more of a bug, or do you think it was intended?
Well, I don’t know what happened when you were playing, but when I did the event and skill point in question, I had no problem dealing with everyone and finishing the stuff.
Also, forum posts make up only a small percentage of the community. The complaints might be a little less common in proportion to the community as a whole.
I had a similar problem. There ended up being a single risen krait that would fight one of the guards and end up dying. As the numbers of killed risen goes up, you should see an extra enemy accompany the krait until the end of the event :d
This all takes forever; so in order to speed things up, I went around to the weapon crates and killed the risen that appeared with the risen fish.
I’m guessing these are bugs, as this makes absolutely no sense xD
But at least it’s doable.
I would just like to say that this event is still bugged.
Also, somewhere near the merchant corpses in the water, I present to you: the underwater moa.
…(Down there)
Anyway, Bloodtide Coast is extremely buggy. On top of this event there’s also a few more buggy events reported around the forum including the Help maintain order in Moriarity’s Hold event. The Champion Orrian Terror also appears to be bugged (you can kill him without taking any damage). And finally, Defend Captain Penzan until he recovers his hidden treasure doesn’t ever seem to actually start. He just stands there.
Even the dolphins have been affected by these code-based diseases, as they’ve mutated into a horrendous creature bent on the destruction of common sense (read: two dolphins crashing into each other and glitching out).
Oh, and in case it matters, this is the Northern Shiverpeaks server. (I heard that a couple of these events were fixed by changing to a different server.)

In Harathi Hinterlands during one of the events, there are several invisible ballista lying around that can be used to shoot enemies, but…well, they’re invisible.
P.S. It’s important to remember that customers are almost always in favor of lower prices. This may reduce your effectiveness considerably.
I personally have no problem. A solid 8.50 price might seem greedy to some people, but I personally see the choice as a logical one. After all, smaller purchases could be made with gold, while larger purchases are more practically made with real money (or a combination of each). I’m just happy knowing that if I absolutely could not live without one of their vanity items, I have the choice to either farm a load of gold over the span of several weeks or buy it real quick with several dollars/pounds/etc. In my opinion, this is a good practice in fighting the urge to be instantly gratified.
In a closely related topic, I think that the gem/gold exchange rate is perfectly reasonable for a subscription-less game. Each purchase I make with real money is more of a donation, in my opinion, not an injustice to my wallet, regardless of the price. And if I choose to exchange gold for gems, I feel that I’m handicapping the game’s future. After all, Guild Wars 2 has practically no revenue outside of the gem store.
That said, the gem/gold exchange truly seems to be more of a gimmick than anything else—a choice for the sake of argument but not necessarily practical. It is this simple freedom, in my opinion, that gives the system its allure. I agree the gem store is geared toward real money purchases, which may sour the deal for some people. However, I believe it’s done for a reason and really makes sense.
(It is worth noting the distinct possibility that any dedicated player could buy several items from the gem store with significant effort if they were particularly pressed for money at the time of their craving.)
Therefore, upon reflecting on what I’ve written, I have no choice but to conclude that ArenaNet has kept these particular promises and successfully maintained these particular ideals in game (for me).
In terms of the everlasting gathering tools, I feel in many ways that the price is perfect.
This is the price of convenience. Therefore, it really makes sense that it’s relatively high—Never have to waypoint back and buy a few more pickaxes? Yes, please. To me, that’s worth whatever price ArenaNet puts on it.
Especially because it isn’t necessary—more of a treat.
Even the fact that the tools are bound to a single character makes sense in terms of convenience (besides, materials are pooled into a shared bank). Binding it to every character just seems a little overkill in my opinion. If we want even more convenience than what we’ve already bought, we should have to pay more. I look at it like this: if I buy something, then later I decide I want more, I have to buy more.
For me, gathering tools have layers of convenience. In-game tools are ranked in effectiveness, each becoming more expensive as we level up (in many ways a form of convenience—commonly finding better materials means less work overall).
In buying tools with real money, I feel that there are also layers.
First, I want to be able to harvest as many things as I want. However, I have 4 other characters that I regularly play. To be more effective in my gathering, I want to gather with those characters as well.
The first layer of convenience is that I can gather as much as I want with one character. I pay for this first level convenience. However, I want to upgrade in order to become more effective—the second layer of convenience. Therefore, I pay for more tools.
This is just what makes sense to me. Most people will probably think differently.
(This is why I feel that a disclaimer must be offered as to the opinions given on these forums.)
Disclaimer:
Oftentimes, forums attract people who were originally spurred to voice their opinions due to extremely negative or extremely positive experiences. This is why many forums seem biased at times. Forum posts in general cannot be taken as indication of a particular bias or trend in the overall community whatsoever.
Instead, these threads indicate a particular bias or trend amongst people who were spurred to voice their opinions due to extremely negative or extremely positive experiences. Therefore, one cannot conclude the overall community’s bias of any particular issue by referencing forums alone.
In order to record a reasonably accurate trend of the community’s opinion, it is best to issue a large number of randomized surveys to players, taking into account gender, age, question wording, and other variables to avoid as much bias as possible.
(It is not possible to reach a conclusion when issuing a survey. Surveys only offer a reasonably accurate trend of the data)
If you would like to pursue lower prices in the gem store, I suggest first catching ArenaNet’s attention by petitioning for a survey with at least 10,000 signatures from fellow players. Otherwise, I seriously doubt you will see any action on their part.
Note: Petitions are biased in the same ways forums are biased.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
What do you want them to say?
“We’re going to start fixing it tonight, so expect it to be perfect by morning”?
Judging by the number of things on their plate that seems a little unrealistic.
Granted, they should’ve released a bug-free version of the game from day one so they wouldn’t have had to juggle dozens of bug fixes, events, and new bugs at once, but there’s no going back now.
It is what it is, I suppose.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
Just going to reiterate a point made earlier that you can use Google search to look for threads in the forum if you absolutely have to.
Go to Google and type in site:https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/
Then just space and type the keyword(s) you’re searching for.
This works pretty well in my experience and is a decent replacement for an actual forum search function.

September 8, 2013…still bugged, but now if you try to wake up some of the pirates, they stand up and die (complete with death sound).
Granted, this isn’t an end-of-the-world, gamebreaking bug, but it is still a bug.
When my Char character looks over at the right edge of the screen, one of his eyes seems to clip over his brow. I’ll share a picture below for teh funnies.
The top pic is him looking over to the right, the bottom is normal.
Again, this isn’t the most important thing in the world.
…But it is a little awkward.
(edited by Theundersigned.4761)
In their defense, I’ve never had this trouble before.
That said, I wish they’d get it fixed soon. I’m worried I’ll end up losing the character I created.
