Does anyone know how this is handled with necros and weakness from their fields? Because weakness already stacks up to 5 times, maybe a necro player can give us some insights?

For the record, I found boon stacking to be one of the best new features of Guild Wars 2’s combat system. Not longer did you have usekitten ons or have to worry what stacks with what or what replaces what…so those planned restrictions can be thrown in the bin for all I care. It’s not gonna solve the condition stacking meta anyway.

Assuming the rumors about all conditions and boons that stack in duration to get a maximum stack of 5 are true:

There is a potential problem. The staff skill ‘Frozen Ground’ causes kittens of 2 seconds of chill each. However, projectile finishers only cause 1 second of chill each. If the change is implemented, then we’ll have the odd situation where it’s actually disadvantageous to use finishers in fields because the total chill duration will be less than from the field itself. (And that’s not even taking into account that comboing on ice fields is now essentially useless).

The same would apply to regeneration on skills like Healing Rain and Healing Spring.

This change, if it is implemented, will render a large number of combo fields useless. I can see why this would be overlooked by the development department which is why I’m posting it here.

Of course, if the rumors aren’t true then none of the above applies.

Assuming the leaked notes are correct for a second, how will the condition stacking change work with combo fields? For example, Frozen Ground causes kittens of 2 sec chill each, but projectile finishers only cause 1 sec chill each. Hence it would actually be disadvantgeous to use finishers on the combo field!

The same goes for Healing Rain and Healing Spring, with the regeneration boon.

Will combos be excluded?

Why is this in the bugs forum? This is obviously a feature, not a bug. After all, how are you supposed to protect yourself from being kicked by a guild group towards the end of a dungeon without this?

It’s a bugged feature then. How do you protect yourself against a party leader rush-leaving before everyone had a chance to pickup their loot?

Phantasms missing animation in PvP

Ever since culling was removed from PvE, there have been issues with ghostly character models not being ‘ghostly’. Instead of the see through blue/purple glow, they appear as normal models instead. I’ve been reporting this bug for quite some time but I didn’t think it high priority because I mainly encountered it in PvE.

However, it now also applies to Mesmer phantasms in PvP and that’s a whole different issue. The main downside to phantasms, as I saw it, was that they could easily be recognized. As it stands, this is no longer the case. And while I’m aware that you can still recognize them due to their names and behavior, it’s a lot harder then when you can see it’s ‘the purple one’.

Please increase the priority on this one because for PvP this is much more of an issue than it is for PvE.

I like the Elementalist im just not into the Attunement switching thing.

You’ve picked the wrong profession because what you’re saying is like the Ranger not using his pet or the Thief not using stealth.

Is it possible to make a build so you can specialize in only one attunement… And also perform good in PvP and WvW???

Yes and no. There are a few builds that are focused around a single attunement that work reasonably well. However, denying yourself acces to the other attunements locks out some potentially useful skills and if you want to win in PvP, you’d better use everything you have because everyone else will too.

However, if you must play a single element, here’s some things you may want to try:
-A condition-focused build using earth scepter #1 to stack bleeds. Combined with a signet/aura build, you’d have some added burning (maybe add Rune of Perplexity for confusion), condition removal and snares. You could pretend the signets are earth gems or something.
-A conjure lightning hammer build. You’d be mostly using the hammer and rarely touch your actual attunement skills. Works best in dungeons.
-A fire build centered around Pyromancer’s Puissance. You’d mostly remain in fire while stacking might and dishing out big hits. This would probably work in WvW zergs.
-A Fresh Air scepter/dagger build. While this would still involve attunement swapping, you’d be getting most of your use out of Air Attunement.
-A water build using dagger #1 combined with Weak Spot to stack vulnerability on a target. Far from ideal but you can get quite a bit of vulnerability, adding at least something to your team.

Those are the things that come to mind. Not sure how viable they’d be, but maybe you can make them work for you.

That’s why Zerk gear is best. The stat return, considering that it’s a quadratic return (More crit, AND more crit damage!) is the reason it is far and above better than any other gear.

Critical damage gets worse the more you get.

If you take the first 10% critical damage, that means your critcal hits goes from 150% to 160%. That’s an increase of only 160/150=6.67%. At 50% critical damage, 210/200=5%.

If your critical chance is 50%, then you’ll have to divide all those values by 2 to get the actual dps increase (3.17% and 2.5% respectively for the example above). I’d go as far to say that when it comes to your weapons (which have the worse stat tradeoff for critical damage) you’ll be much better off if you pick soldier’s instead of zerker, because you’ll be lucky if the critical damage goes higher than +1% dps.

Take a shout Warrior for example, having 1400 healing power (which is a pretty huge commitment) gives you a total of the equivalent of 140hp/sec assuming you are using 3 shouts on CD every time. Yes you get a bonus to your heal skills (.05 from signet!) and regen (.125!) but it’s just not enough of a return!

That depends. Some guy on the ele forums calculated that the healing difference between zerker and cleric gear is over 10k per 30 seconds with 90% of it being AoE. That’s quite a bit and could be very useful under the right circumstances*.

*= the right circumstances being the (large?) group of players that wear zerker like the elite but unlike the elite cannot perfom well enough to survive on their own.

From last I checked, combo auras do not share via Powerful Aura. If that has been since fixed then I withdraw that suggestion.

In the case of blast finisher+ice field, it doesn’t matter because it’s AoE even without Powerful Aura.

GoEP can hit one opponent only once every 5s. With 25% chance to trigger, that seems a bit inefficient to me.

True, but it adds up. The cooldown is separate for each target you hit and between your auto attacks and your fields, you have quite a few chances to trigger it. When combined with the conditions from your weapons and/or those from the elemental summons, it works quite well.

Something just struck me and forgive me if I’m wrong on this but, aren’t combo fields essentially the GW2 version of the overcast mechanic?

I mean, essentially what they do is ‘after you cast this spell you have small window of time to make certain other spells (finishers) do something extra’. That’s basically what overcast does, IS IT NOT?

To be fair, while I don’t personally use all the back skins, they all looked very cool. Most are of the variety ‘not-my-taste-but-still-awesome’.

Added benefit is that you’d only need to make one and it would be usable by all characters.

Every weapon combination except Scepter mainhand already has at least 2. D/D and D/F have 2 (3 if you include the leap finisher through fire fields) and Staff has 2 (Magnetic Aura and Frost Aura through the use of combos).

In PvE as long as you don’t trait beyond 10 points into Arcana, you have plenty of +damage steroid traits choose from and stack up:

What about the extra damage from having longer lasting boons? Even when just considering Sigil of Battle, each 10% boon duration already adds +40 power and condition damage. Also counting might from fire fields and attunement swap, as well as the extra fury, and you’ve got quite a bit of dps from what’s otherwise a utility traitline…

Have you considered supporting your fellow players through other things than healing? Say, by giving the boons (Elemental Attunement and Rune of Altruism come to mind).

Because while you seem to have a decent healing build, I can’t help but feel the need to point out that the ele is so much more than just a healer.

Saying that “most of PvE revolves around group fighting” is absurd.

Is it really that absurd? Granted, questing and hearts is mostly solo stuff. However, the tougher open world content (world bosses and Living Story stuff) is made for groups. And that’s where balance really comes into play. The story stuff everyone pretty much agrees doesn’t matter what you do, it’s head-into-keyboard-easy.

Over the past few decades the western world has worked hard to remove these kinds of issues from the work environment because they led to all sorts of health problems.

Wheter or not they should thus be present in a video game is an interesting debate. They cannot always be avoided, but unless it’s impossible otherwise, they should be omitted where possible.

IMO 10% Crit dmg is better than 3% party damage.

It doesn’t, sorry. If we assume, for the sake of argument, that everyone is dealing the same amount of damage, then 3% extra damage for 5 players equals 15% extra damage on 1 player. If 5 players deal 100 damage each, then 3% of 500 is 15 damage, which is 15% of 100.

On the other hand we have 10% critical damage which isn’t actually +10% damage. Seeing as how your critical hits already deal 150% damage, they now deal 160% damage. 160/150=6.7% extra damage. Consider now the fact that not all your hits are actually critical hits (say you have 50% critical chance) then the number gets even lower because it doesn’t always apply (you go down to rougly 3% on average at 50% critical chance). The vulnerability applies on all hits on the entire party, whereas critical damage will barely give you +3% on your own hits.

Also consider that you will more than likely not be the only source on Vuln, maintaining 25 stacks should not be hard at all for a group.

That however, is a good argument. 0 extra vulnerability will do less than +10% critical damage.

Is Vulnerability stacking going to be affected by the upcoming condition stacking nerfs?

To my knowledge, it only affects duration stacking conditions like burning and chill.

There are some really clueless people out in WvW. I hop on my necro put all my marks on top of me and idiots still run right into them after watching me put them down.

They do that with Meteor Shower and Ice Spike too. It may be hard to hit moving targets in theory, but in practice it’s relatively easy. ;-)

I have actually been using GoS in Water attunement more often to apply a large amount of chill on a boss target rather than the nerfed ticking blind (few bosses that come to mind are Mossman, Archivist, Ice Ele/Dredge Machine in Underground Fractal, and the Captain in Ascalonian Fractal). That plus Frozen Ground + Earth Auto can apply a lot of Chilled on bosses that are annoying when they move around fast.

Frost Bow also provides chill. ;-)

Now decide if its really worth sacrificing all other stats …

To be honest, the differences are quite a bit larger than I’d expected. On a standard 30 seconds rotation, you’d have something like: Glyph of Elemental Harmony/Geyser/6x Cleansing Wave (from swap and EA dodge).

With your numbers, your actual build would heal for (5007+2538+6x1452=)16257. With the healing build that’d be (6055+3585+6x2763=)26218. That’s almost 10k more without taking into consideration regeneration or soothing mist.

I’m not saying I’m gonna swap over to full healer all of a sudden, but those numbers sure are impressive.

About the ranged AOE nuke, it would be very nice if Ice bow and the glyph of storms have range of 1200, like the staff, for the ability to fully use the “ranged” potential.

That would be nice yes, and help D/D a bit with their range issue too.

I don’t understand this one. Glyphs have been a staple in my builds for months, and they’ve only been improved. They’re essentially 4 skills in 1, more if you consider all the abilities the elemental summons have. Having a chance for snares or weakness on all your skills is awesome too.

Your C is a bit flowed.It is important.Because in other MMOs i can go to the test dummy and practice a specific build and see the results.
In GW2 i can’t do such thing.I can’t say Build A is better from Build B with Z ammount of dmg.I can’t say it because i don’t know what is the dmg to begin with.
The current combat log is awful.

My C was about there being no boss timers to beat. A boss timer makes the group wipe if they didn’t get it down in time. Mechanics like those are rare in Guild Wars 2.

As for the dps meter, ever considered going to the Mists and compare how long it takes for different builds to take down a target dummy? Because that’s essentially what a dps meter does. All you need is a watch.

so if 1vs1 is not supposed to happen, what if you want to reach your precious cuddling zerg when first logging in the game and you have to lonely travel from WP to zerg and you find a bad bad unattended really unforeseeable event like….meeting an enemy on the war field?
Will you pm him “hey, this is not supposed to happen!”, “this is not what the game was designed for!!!”.
Maybe it works.

The fact that it happens doesn’t mean the game needs to be balanced around that fact.

Would you like it if they nerfed all your precious warriors skills because a few players can solo Lupicus? Or half your damage because with all buffs you can get, you can deal a 5digit number on a non-moving mob?

Then why do you insist on making all balance around 1v1 duels when most of PvP (and most of PvE too) revolves around group fighting?

And yeah, if I make a group-optimal build, I’ll likely go down when fighting a player that has optimized for single targets. That’s like saying the police are weak because the firemen can put out fires so much better than they can.

Hehe, yeah, but that was my original point. I’d prefer conjures to be utility skills rather than full blown builds, and if you DO use them as a full blown build (I’m not against other people using them as such) then you shouldn’t worry about only having 5 skills because then it’s a choice.

Agreed. It’d be silly if there were no advantage to taking the glyph of course. I mostly meant it as an example of how conjures could also be used. If you really wanted to nuke things are range, you could always take both. :-) Add a meteor shower to the mix, and a warrior as bait and you’d have mobkebab in notime.

Read again what I am saying: if armor is a problem, then just take signet of earth. This is because we are already taking 10 in earth for the damage.

And I’m saying that taking traitlines for stats is worthless because you could just as easily adjust your gear to give you that stat combination. That leaves you free to pick the traits you need instead of having to get subpar traits.

And for the record, while condition damage isn’t worthless, taking 100 points in earth just for the condition damage doesn’t do it for me.

I’m personally not playing this conjure build (although I was testing it), but If you play conjure build, it’s a specialized build of course.

That was my point. I don’t agree with the ‘of course’. Why can’t you see the conjure as a ‘5 utilily skills in 1 slot’? Why must you ‘specialize’?

And to get back to the Ice Bow example, it gives the staff ele an extra nuke (skill 4) but they can also use skills 2 and 3 while they’re at it (which both reasonable damage and vulnerability and chill). They could also have taken Glyph of Storms, but with the bow, they essentially get the glyph (at 30 seconds cooldown instead of 48) and some other, potentially useful, skills.

Just drop it when you’re done and pickup the other 20 seconds later.

No, but they are making changes to the skills from the weapons themselves. Earth Shield gets a chain for their auto attack for example, and Frost Bow gets a few cooldowns reduced.

It always makes me laugh when people say that because of our armor being the lowest we die in a glance … you know if our armor is a problem then just take 10 in earth like we all do for dmg and signet of earth then bam you are a heavy.

It sounds like a poor choice to me. Taking a statline and a signet just for the stats seems a bit wasteful.

The ele has great survivability, but it’s not from base stats or armor. We have to keep active, moving and healing all the way. We can easily get perma vigor, boost our dodges with Evasive Arcana (getting 1 heal, 1 blind and 1 whatever-you-need) and if played correctly, get quite a few heals, regens and protection boons.

Unlike the warrior, we cannot just sit still and auto attack. Doesn’t mean we’re squishy though.
