Anti-ascended gear: What do you want?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

If there’s gonna be a gear threadmill, do it through infusions and only apply it to Fractals. This would have the benefit of:

-Players playing to get better gear will literally get better gear.
-Said gear would only offer a benefit in Fractals of the Mists.
-Said gear would not be required to enjoy content, only higher levels of the same content.
-People looking to be ‘done’ at some point for PvE and WvW, can in fact rest easy and be actually done (since the only stat that doesn’t have a max will be Agony resistance, and that has no effect on WvW).

That would be the best of both worlds in my opinion. If tougher, agony based difficulties of other content were to be released to, I’d be ok with that too.

Anet Should Really Have a Negativity Forum

The problem is that people are too entitled in this day and age. They pay 60 dollars/euros and think that grants them the right to order ArenaNet around. It doesn’t. You paid 60 moneys for a product which allows you to use it.
Anger would only be justified if they would remove your ability to use the product (take the servers down).

It’s not the customer’s fault if the vendor overestimates what they can deliver for $60.

We were promised personalized home instances would be in the game. Then it was stated that they weren’t quite finished at launch and that it would be added at a later date. Then, it was disclosed that nobody at Anet is actually working on adding it to the game.

Now, if you’re a person that bought the game because of said feature, said actions by ArenaNet will make you angry. And rightfully so. Sure, the game is good value for money. But that doesn’t mean Anet should be let off easy if they don’t supply what they themselves told us they would add.

Speed up the staff projectiles a bit, and reduce their casting time a bit. That make the staff a bit more useful in 1v1 without totally negating the advantage that D/D has.

Either that, or turn skills like Ice Spike and Eruption into dot fields so they’d at least hit a bit, instead of once hit-or-miss.

To all of you complaining about how long it takes to get a Legendary weapon, consider the alternatives for a moment:

  • Random drop chance -

Isn’t that like, exactly how it it’s implemented currently? Apart from the fact that not only you have only a random chance to get some of the parts, it’s also COSTING you an investment. At least with WoW, you didn’t lose all your gold if you didn’t get that random drop.

Asuran Religion?

ThiBash.5634

there’s nothing religious in anything physicists do, though some are quite fanatic about their research but that does not equal religion either.

The distinction between science and religion isn’t as black and white as you make it out to be. Sure, there’s the everyday practical application of science that’s pretty much non-religion, but there’s also the theoretical side of science which shares many of the same characteristics of a religion.

For example, the ‘if it can be proven it’s true’ requires the scientist to believe in the works of his peers and predecessors, if only because they don’t have the time to verify all the work that has been done before. Scientists also ‘believe’ that something is proven if the experiment can be replicated, but thus also rule out anything that might be true but can’t be repeated. They belief that truth is directly related to ‘being able to proof or disprove’, which again is a belief (a.k.a. I believe it when I see it => If I don’t see it, it doesn’t exist).

Religion at its core is trying to come up with an explanation of how the world works. Science is no different in that aspect. In fact, you could argue that NOT believing is in fact, a religion in itself (as you belief something is not true, as opposed to believing something is true).

Exploits and Glitching

Unfair as a game mechanic. That’s how it’s unfair.
Go in the normal PvE, try and kill whichever monster while you are in place they can’t hit you. Watch them go invulnerable because this is intended.
Understand that this feature is a bug. Or a gross oversight. Or a weird intended idea to allow everyone to do AC.

To be honest, I find this ‘invulnerability’ mechanic very out of place in a game that’s supposed to be all about player skill, positioning and dodging stuff. You’re not allowed to take advantage of terrain, or even kite away more than a few steps before everything resets again. In fact, you could stand on a ledge, throw a fireball or two while jumping down and still have the mob reset because it couldn’t reach you when you threw the first fireball.

And that’s not even taking into account the bumps in the terrain that sometimes make mobs reset. I’d say, remove the mechanic in its entirety. It’s not stopping bots, it’s not stopping exploits. It’s just frustrating.

The main thing that the ‘pro-nudity’ posters have failed to adress is what it would ADD to the game.

Because it will take up artist time to make anything decent, but it wouldn’t add to the gameplay at all.

Granted, you might have had an argument if Anet actively removed nudity…but in a game that never had any nudity, can you really claim not adding it is censorship? If anything, you could argue that modelling underwear takes a lot less time and resources than sculpting private parts.

So there’s no real reason to add it, and there’s no censorship because you can’t censor what was never there to begin with.

Intensely Aggravating PvE creature re-spawns

in Suggestions

Posted by: ThiBash.5634

ThiBash.5634

There was an earlier thread about this, the TL;DR version is:
- Respawn times are NOT 15s outisde of events, 95-120s is the typical range
- A lot of factors can make the respawn seem faster—if monsters in the same spawn group are being killed elsewhere they might respawn in your location (they don’t reappear in the same spot)
- Closed locations like caves can make you run over the same area repeatedly, causing you encounter respawns where you would normally (in an open area) have already moved on
- Orr in general is a known problem, and the base spawns are being toned down as I type this

In general, if you can provide a specific location where the respawn rate seems out of whack, I can look at it, but in almost every case I’ve looked at, the respawn times were well over a minute.

A while ago, didn’t you mention a bug in Orr where the number of spwan locations was less than the number of spawning npcs, thus making npcs spawn more often than the timer should allow?

The 3 blacksmiths in the Storyline

in Personal Story

It’s also possible for Sylvari to learn, intrinsically, the basics of a trade/combat/etc in the Dream and thus be born with rudimentary understanding of it—really not far from if you were to start learning something during your childhood, because their state in the Dream effectively is their childhood, even if they have a poorer explicit memory of it than we do.

Learning a craft in 25 years is possible yes. However, as a race, how can they possibly master a craft other races took centuries to develop, in just 25 years? Just through the dream? Even though they remember it worse than humans do their childhood?

But that in itself wouldn’t be so bad, if they weren’t showcased as the best of everything at every oppertunity. Just think about it:

-They can predict the future.
-They provide the only level-headed DE member.
-They have a magic sword that can cleanse an entire nation, where other races have no above average items (even the Priory ones are much less ‘uber’).
-They provide the overall hero of the game.
-They’re immune to corruption.
-They got the best blacksmith in the game.
-They can instantly match any scholar for intelligence.
-Their greatest hero can go from a simple scholar to a general in a flash.
-etc.

Seriously, they need a character flaw, a ‘weakness’. The only Sylvari that’s well done is Seiran. She’s curious in gets herself in trouble because she doesn’t understand things as well as the elder races do. She’s still learning the great lessons of life, with a major moment on Claw Island.

No other Sylvari has that. They’re only 25 years, yet they’re already ‘complete’. It’s annoying.

GW2 and trinity: healthy discussion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ThiBash.5634

ThiBash.5634

The main reason Anet decided to do away with the tank/healer/dps setup is to allow any group of players to do any type of content.

Being a dps class in World of Kittencraft was a pain…because any tank or healer could also dps, but no dps could tank or heal. This led to an imbalance and made it a lot harder to find groups. Not to mention the fact that if 1 person left (the tank), you couldn’t continue whatever raid you were on.

We don’t have that problem in Guild Wars. Any player can join any group.

Now, I won’t say anything on wheter it takes more skill than raiding in WoW. But the fact that the various roles are distributed over the various party members instead of focused in 1 person (i.e. everyone has 1 healing skill instead of 1 healer that has all 5 of them) appeals to me. It’s…different. And even if it isn’t perfect now, you gotta give them credit for having the guts to try something new.

There is no difference between GW2 and games that rely on the trinity that would suggest that GW2 has or requires a higher skill cap.

WoW uses rotations (yes, even for healers and tanks). Guild Wars 2 requires you to pick your skills according to what happens on the battlefield.

chances of getting Ban / Account termination

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: ThiBash.5634

ThiBash.5634

The thing is, in theory anything can get you banned. The reason for that is that there could potentially be a way to exploit something, and whenever Anet would state ‘this won’t get you banned’, people would abuse it to get ‘under the radar’.

So the best response you’re gonna get will be ‘this is highly unlikely to get you banned’ and ‘if you didn’t do anything wrong, your account will be restored’.

It’s annoying, yes, but it’s the way they operate. They look to each situation on its own, as they do not want to create a set of rules that bots/players can then find loopholes in.

This is what happened just a few moments ago:

Although I know there are upcoming changes planned to make getting into fractals much easier, I decided to try and find a group anyway. Although I didn’t expect many responses, pretty soon I found a second person. So I happily changed my chat message to looking for 3 more. Over the next 10 minutes, 2 more people started trickling in. We asked our guilds and friends, and pretty soon, beyond my expectations, we were a 4-man group.

But then the chatfilter decided that things weren’t meant to be. We had already taken turns asking in map chat to avoid the ‘Excessive Messaging’ block, but by the time we got to 4 people, we were all blocked from usin the chat.

Realizing there was no way to get around it for the next hour or so, and having already asked our guilds and friends, we now realized there was no way to make it a 5-man team.

And thus, our run was thwarted on the brink of being able to start. Some decided to do something else, and within 30 seconds, I was all by myself again.

Thank you chatfilter!

So on behalf of all dungeoneering players, I beg you…please remove the filter from map chat.

The Future of the Personal Story

in Personal Story

Another, cheaper way of making the personal story more personal is making NPCs from previous chapters appear in later chapters.

The Battle for Claw Island had the Sonic Ray cannon in it on my elementalist, but Professor Gor on my Engineer. Both were significant parts of my earlier stories respectively.

This concept could be expanded upon by adding let’s say, the starter NPCs as fighting buddies (with maybe 1 or 2 lines of text as dialogue, no voice acting). The difference would be which NPC it actually was. For a noble humand, it’d be lord Faren, whereas a Charr could get an NPC from their starter warband, etc.

That way, the story matters, even if they don’t actually contribute to the story, at least they’ll be there.

Or like how the Hylek/Quaggan/Skritt you help earlier in your story appear to rescue you later. Things like that, are great (and cheap to implement compared to branching stories and extra voice actors).

If Im not mistaken the sylvari smith is Occam from the green knight storyline that made Bercilak’s armor of immortality.

So a creature from a race that exists for 25 years at best, outclasses all the smithing skills of the Charr and Asura combined? And the first armor he/she/it makes, makes the wearer immortal?

If so, is there any reason to have any non-Sylvari around? Because if they can make immortality armor and clease all of Orr with a single sword, why would they even need the other races?

If they truly are the only real immune species, that just shot them all way past Mary Sue territory.

I think GW2 has the worst mage implementation of any of the games i’ve played. The “feel” of staff/scepter is just not there.

Gotta disagree with you there. Rather than the standard, long range glass nuker, we get a quick thinking, rapid speed caster that affects not only what they do, but their allies as well. They’re more akin to the spellcasters from books that always seem to know dozens of spells instead of the plain old boring I-got-3-spells-that-I-rotate-and-that’s-all-I-know ones. If anything, spellcasters in GW2 are closer to the fantasy lore wizards than many MMOs have come in years. (I know we’re not talking about Mesmers, but have you considered that this game’s the first MMO that actually uses illusions in an actual distracting way instead of just xx% chance to miss?)

GW2 is trying new stuff, and I find that for the casters, they’re spot on. They’re great fun to play!

There’s no good gameplay reason for long attunement CD or why the vast majority of traits are so ineffectual.

There are ineffective traits, true. There’s also some very effective traits, especially when you start combining them to go for a theme (cantrips, signets, auras). As for the attunement cooldown, the reason’s likely that they want your choices have some impact instead of correcting mistakes instantly. Quick reflexes ain’t enough, you’ll need quick planning.

And of course you shouldn’t remain in water while it’s up. Ideally, you’re already back in fire once it actually goes off to take advantage of the extra vulnerability.

Most modern day atheïsts put a lot of their faith in science. However, apart from the fact that there’s no god, there’s still a lot of asuming and theorizing going on, to the point where you could argue it’s a ‘thhought-through belief system’.

As for the Asura, I think they simply believe there’s some Law of All that, given enough time and research, can be researched (and used). Since Tyria houses magic, that per definition includes some more mystical stuff. But they don’t really distinguish between magical, mundane and divine. They’re all interconnected, and nothing stands above the rest, they’re more akin to unequal partners.

As for me personally, one of the reasons I often play a caster is the ‘death mechanic’. Magic saves my character. She may be unconsious, but she cannot die due to combat. So yeah, when she’s lying on the floor…my character at least, is still alive. If she teleports back to a waypoint, a spell saved her.

The reason to avoid going down however is pretty similar to what Instructor Ng stated in GW1. You may not die, but youcertainly didn’t make it any easier to actually win the fight. And you gotta walk back…

That does sound useful in combat…pity my aim is so terrible.

The problem you have with the non-elite conjure idea is you’d have to balance each and every conjure to each and every weapon set…

Yeah, you got a point there. It’ll be harder to implement than it looked at first glance. Even if it would only work for the elementalist themselves, it would still open up more combinations than Anet seems comfortable with.

The fact that you can actually, to some extent fight together instead of all seperately. This is most apparent in combo fields/finishers, but also in the way boons and conditions stack. It’s a small thing, but I find that it works pretty well.

For me, the Priory Historcial Daggers fit the them of a caster. They have a bit more magical, and less practical look on them that I kinda like.

For my armor, I’m combining the scholar set with the guild armor as they match up quite well on a human female.

Will we ever get that traditional mage feel?

One of the things that may be the cause of this feeling is the fact that the staff has so many combo fields. If you have a field that causes each arrow flying through it cause burning (350+ damage each), then of course you cannot go crazy on the base damage of the field itself. Static Field has this effect to an even greater extent, alone, if you even combo with it at all, you’ll deal a few % more damage. In a team, you got much more vulnerability out of it, which then more players can exploit. So its power grows exponentially.

This makes staff skills feel rather weak, as the actual effects aren’t as apparent as raw damage. Not to mention the fact that the power increases relaive to the number of other players present. So by yourself, you’re stuck feeling (and somewhat being) underpowered unless they would do away with all combo fields.

Your suggestion for normal conjure weapons is actually one of the more practical ones I’ve seen so far. It may be viable for implementation, though for balance reasons I think you may need to make it undroppable for its duration.

On a more general note, I feel that Cantrips as they are now are a bit too strong. Not only are their effects pretty decent, but they also act as stunbreakers (a must have) and they have some of the best traits available to them. This makes it pretty unviable to go with anything that has less than 1 cantrip in it. Maybe the overall balance could be shifted a bit.
