This was promised before the release. Then it was revealed that they weren’t quite ready to be implemented on the release.

But is it unreasonable to ask that something that was once showcased as one of the cooler features, to at least be worked on?

To be honest, I was expecting it to happen within at least 6 months of release. It’s one of the main reasons I went for this game. So reading an interview response from Izzy that staes it’s not even worked on is well…let’s not get into that just yet.

Please start working on it? Pretty please?

Guild-Wars2.info: Are there any plans to create special merchants, quests, mini-games, events, daily activities, etc. in the home instance?

Izzy: Yes, we do have some plans to improve these but we’re not actively working on this right now.

This is actually a bit insulting. They were among the things advertised as best features in the early works of the game. They were also once claimed to ´not be ready on release but added soon´.

Now we hear they´re not even working on them? What a slap in the face.

The personal home instance was in fact one of the reasons I picked this game…

What kinds of things do you miss from GW 1?

The fact that I could easily level to 20, get ‘perfect gear’ and could focus on getting my build and playstyle right. The fact that gear wasn’t ever an issue made that player skill mattered a lot, and I really liked that.

In Guild Wars 2, with each update I’m stuck crossing my fingers hoping they don’t add yet more junk to gather before I can start playing the game again.

Have you ever seen a necro trying to support with those dinky little 3-second protection buffs per well? That’s just sad.

Agree with pretty much all of your post, but wanted to make one little footnote on this part.

Yes, on its own, it’s hardly worth the trouble to cast. However, what makes boons so uniquely useful in Guild Wars 2 is how they stack. If you have 5 people all casting their 3 seconds protection, it translates to 15 seconds of protection. Which does matter quite a bit.

It’s one of the things I feel people often overlook. Skill on their own are often weak, but thanks to thestacking mechanics that other games lack, boons and conditions become worth using. It’s actually one of those small, hidden gems of brilliance that I like so much in this game. Abilities are no longer standalone, they actually work together in some way. But I suppose that’s a whole different discussion.

Not really. A mesmer is nothing without its clones. It’s integral to the mesmer’s gameplay and if you were able to rally by finishing off the piddly hp of a clone it would not be a viable class at all. A conjured elemental, however, is just a utility skill that you can choose or not choose to utilize.

Yes, but like Strang said…if that’s true, it basically makes summons utterly worthless in WvW. Even more so if enemies rally whenever it gets repositioned if you move to far from it.

Cantrips in general, are ok. The fact that they break stuns make them pretty much musthave skills, and on paper at least, Conjure Flame is a great skill. It can remove all snares, roots and stuns, which are basically the main threat to any elementalist. However, I realize that in practice it gets outclassed by the other cantrips. But to be honest, I wouldn’t know of an easy fix. Especially since cantrips can be boosted so much by traits.

The main issue with your conjure idea is, I think, that Anet has been working very hard to lessen the potential number of skill combinations. A change like that would increase them again, and I feel they might be unwilling to do so. Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea…but I fear it goes against Anet’s overall plan, and thus is unlikely to happen. Personally, I’d feel that if they made some of the weapon skills slightly better (stuff like increased range, maybe a wee bit more damage) they’d be viable for use.

Signet of Water…the condition removal idea may be ok, but an active regen would be added on top of all the other active regens we already have and could lead to potential stacking abuse.

As for the elites, I like GoE so much that I’d probably keep using it regardless of what happens to the other two…so I’m not the right person to comment on them.

It totally depends on what you measure too. It’s already been established that the displayed skill recharges are inaccurate, and that the actual casting sequences take longer (Fireball fires every 1.4 seconds for example, even though its tooltip shows a 1 second recharge).

The one thing we can all agree on I think, is that assuming Fire deals more damage than an attunement swapping elementalist, the difference will be small enough that the extra support and boons more than make up for it. That means that it’s not totally unviable to go for full fire. But it also means that going for full fire won’t neccesarily be better than swapping either. Just different.

And let’s leave it at that…

It seems you don’t understand that while Ice Spike and Eruption do take a while to activate, they only take a fraction of that time to actually cast them. While they’re busy, you can move on to other spells. Their damage is actually higher than fireball, and if you spend the same amount of time casting them, who cares if they activate 5 seconds or 10 seconds later? You still get more damage for the same amount of time spent casting.

What you’re saying equals not casting anything until Flame Burst’s burning is done…that makes no sense right? So why on earth would you wait until Ice Spike has landed? Go on and cast somethign else as soon as you’re able, the ice crystal will drop just as well without your attention.

And with all that might stacking you’re doing, the damage from your bleeding won’t be insignificant at all. So why not use it and make eruption do truly massive damage because it can benefit from both bonusses your might stacks give?

Swaping attunements takes time ,a LOT of time.

Agreed. My main point wasn’t to show you that you cannot deal dps as fire. My main point was to show that you could deal just about equal dps and still cycle through your other abilities too.

No I’m not taking bleeds into account , at all. Already said why.

But you should, because it’s still added damage. Unless you got a team that exceeds 25 stacks of course. Then you’d be right.

You do realise you can’t do damage while you’re supporting, do you?

Disagree strongly with this statement. If through support, I cast vulnerability on a target, or might on my allies, the extra damage is a result of my abilities. So while they may not show up on my damage monitor, it’s still damage caused because of me.

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot to add one thing…swapping attunements gives you 2-3 seconds of Fury each time you switch. If you swap quickly enough after casting Meteor Shower, it can easily get +20% critical chance through its entire duration.

In the time you cast Ice spike you cast 2 auto atacks in fire. And you don’t have a cooldown. And fire auto atacks are 3/4 damage compared to Ice Spike .So Ice spike , not that great.

The casting time is similar to fireball and you can switch on to the next element while casting it. Also, the cooldown is irrelevant because you’ll be moving on to the next attribute and thus the next spell. Finally, the vulnerability will increase both your own and your team’s damage by a bit. So the total damage due due to Ice Spike will be quite a bit higher than fireball.

Eruption takes long until it explodes and the raw damage isn’t that great. And the bleeds are slow.Same goes for Shockwave.

The time they take doesn’t matter much for any fight that lasts longer than 10 seconds. The finisher effect however, does if you cast Lava Font after it again and buff up a teammate with might.

Those Fire autoatacks are pretty strong , and keeps your might stacks up too.

So does Sigil of Battle when you swap attunements often enough.

The key to the whole thing is not to linger in any attunement for any length of time, but to cast the most powerful spell(s) and move on.

Engineer vs Elementalist?

They’re both versatile, but where the engineer picks something before the fight starts, the elementalist basically makes their choice during the fight.

Fire Mages

Think of it this way: imagine for a second you’re using the staff. Now, you can spam your auto attack to your heart’s content while remaining in fire, or you can go to each element in turn, starting with Fire and do something like this:

Lava Font/Meteor Shower/Lava Font
Ice Spike
Blinding Surge
Eruption/Shockwave
Lava Font, etc.

With the right setup, you’d be casting high damage spike skills from the other elements instead of Fireball. Seeing as how they deal more damage than Fireball, your dps will be higher.

It’s a very basic example of course, but I think it shows the appeal of using the other elements as well. Skills like Ice Spike, Blinding Surge and Eruption simply do more damage than Fireball. So if you switch, you get acces to a few more high damage aoe spells instead of your basic auto attack.

To continue with the bread/baker analogy, the problem is that we’ve bought a bread expecting to get a whole bread. Instead, we got half a bread with the baker’s promises that the other half would be finished soon (guild halls, home instances, minigames in major cities, etc.). It’s not unreasonable to ask for more information, especially since the last few slices we got seem to belong to an entirely different type of bread.

Mind you, the price of the bread is irrelevant. If the baker said you would get the entire bread for $0.01 then he’s still obligated to supply you with the entire bread. Especially if you’ve already paid for it.

I’m all for trusting, but I’ll admit that the guild hall update had better appear within the next two months. Because so far, I haven’t even been able to play half of what was promised on Gamescom.

Not sure if I would change anything at all. You basically get 2 skills for each utility slot…that’s quite powerful in itself. Of course they’ll need to be weakened a bit to compensate. Compare it to the warrior or thief, who only get 1 skill…or the elementalist, that needs traits just to get skill effects at all. Or the ranger, who gets a pet but still gets 1 skill out of it in total. Or the mesmer and guardian, which get 3 unchangable skills instead of 4 changable ones.

The fact it had such a higher return than the other recipes you admittedly knew about, and that it was different enough that you actually tried crafting a rare jewel instead of your usual options (daggers and warhorns) shows how you understood it was not the same thing. In other words, how it was something in a different order of magnitude from other recipes in the game, which you quickly tried to make a profit from, even if you failed.

In other words, how it was an exploit you tried to abuse.

This is one leap of logic that has a hole in it. If you are looking for scales, and you find that naga drop them more often, so you start fighting naga more often…by your resoning, that’s an exploit?

If you’d have a 100% chance to get your materials back + ectos, then yes, I’d agree it’s obviously an exploit.

But a 90% chance still means there’s a good chance at a failure…so I honestly don’t get why it should be an offense worthy of perma bans? Why not simply remove the items, give a warning, maybe a temporary block and be done with it?

Why must players suffer the loss of their account simply because Anet made a mistake? Just so everyone can see how tough they are as a gaming company?

I’m sorry, but I do not understand this…

There was a recipe that you could salvage to get ectos…and you could do it multiple times. Am I the only one that understands why people might not see that as an exploit? Is it the player’s fault that a recipe drops the wrong stuff. And does that really deserve a permenent, irrevocable ban?

And on a related note, is buying materials, making a rune and selling it for more an exploit? Can I get banned for selling 50+ runes a day? Because that’s basically the same thing. I’m making money that’s essentially free money for me by crafting and selling stuff in bulk.

Is making the troll fight Kohler an exploit? Can I get banned for that?

Seriously, should I just block my account myself? Because from what I’m reading, I could get permanently banned for just about anything any minute now…and it may very well be that I didn’t even know that what I was doing was actually wrong. Because nobody’s gone tell me in advance that something is an exploit…only afterwards.

Carrion vs Rabid - Condition Elementarist

in Elementalist

Posted by: ThiBash.5634

ThiBash.5634

You can probably make a great condition build through the use of a scepter and switching between earth and fire for dealing damage. I believe that someone once calculated that your dps would be higher than fire if you remained in earth.

However, you would basically throw all the versatility that an ele has out the window. And seeing as how the profession is built around versatility, you will be debying yourself a lot if you rarely switch.

However, I think that a condtion-based build using the scepter’s auto attacks can be done. But I would still recommend switching a lot. At worst it’ll save you a utility slot that’ll now be available for something mroe useful than signet of fire. And if you do that, you might wanna reconsider condition duration.

Lack of options without weapon swapping

…if we REQUIRE ranged, but we are D/D we cant. Im not saying we need a gap closer, im saying, you NEED to be ranged…

There is a boss in CoF normal (i think) that does a lot of damage if you are within melee range, I didnt know this and I had D/D equipped and literally became useless to my team…

The water auto attack has a range of 600. That should be more than enough to circumvent that issue. The alternatives are running Frost Bow or, if neither of those are acceptable, hit and run attacks.

The price you pay for having higher damage is less flexibility with your range. I can understand why this may sometimes be an unacceptable issue, but think of it this way: if you normally deal twice the damage of a staff ele, and melee damage now limits you to attacking 50% of the time…your dps is still on par with the staff ele.

Lack of options without weapon swapping

ThiBash.5634

So been playing my ele for a while now, and some things i’ve noticed is the lack of options we have for a given situation because we can’t weapon swap in combat.

-Examples: D/D and S/D are both around melee range, so in wvw and vs a large majority of bosses via dungeons/Fractals, they become near useless…

Thoughts on the subject?

My personal thoughts are that the elementalist’s weapons aren’t defined by range as much as they are by role. A staff is just as effective at short range as it is at long range. Daggers have many gap closers, and are great at staying alive. Scepters are a bit inbetween, but 900 range is plenty for what they do.

Instead, staff is a support weapon, scepter a control/conditiondamagespam weapon, and daggers a power/burst weapon. The range is actually the least important aspect of the weapon, and when played well, can be ignored almost completely.

So no, I don’t feel that you need to add range. If you really do need the extra range, there’s conjure weapons, air elementals, arcane blast, glyph of storms and of course the water auto attack.

And on a side note, a build/equipment template style swap is in the works.

It’s a known bug and they’re working on a fix.

Great to read that. Would mean a 25% or so dps increase for my staff build. ;-)

For staff, I’d use power instead as your base damage is pretty low so multiplying it will do relatively little.

On daggers, I’d say 19% is decent. It’ll translate to almost 40% with fury and that seems a decent amount to me.

However, they can force you to change your name if it’s against the EULA. So why don’t they just follow that procedure? A few days of block seems preferable to having your account stolen, and this is a special circumstance…
