What's your favourite Jumping Puzzle?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ThiBash.5634

To be honest…jumping puzzles is the best innovation to MMO’s that Guild Wars 2 has implemented. I really like them, especially the one with the pirate cave that also has a little story behind it.

My favorite puzzle is the one in Eternal Battlegrounds, but I’m sad to see it plays such a small part in the overall fighting, because the fighting that goes on in there gets a whole new dimension with the jumping and such involved. It would be great if there was like, a capturable objective at the top (though I know that may never happen).

However, I would like to give a small bit of feedback: one thing that’s extremely frustrating is when you have to go back all the way to the start several times. Puzzles with rest and recovery points are preferable to me.

The no-res-while-in-combat mechanic has been around for a while now, and I was wondering what people think about it now that they’ve had the chance to experience it in practice.

Basically, what’s more fun to you: running back from the waypoint, or laying on the floor waiting for your team to beat the boss?

Lost Shores Golem Event

According to one of the designers, each non-group event should be soloable. However, this event cannot be soloed because you need 7 golem parts and at most, 6 parts will show up. If you really want to solo it, you need to wait 2 minutes for the parts to respawn.

Also, is it really neccesary for the worms to insta-kill you even in tank gear? ’Wouldn’t the immobilize alone have been annoying enough?

…I do feel that the earth shield’s in need a of a major rework. Just consider everything it does, compare it to the Dagger/Focus combination…and you’ll see that all its skills are just weaker versions of that combination. It should at least be on par, considering you also give up a lot of versatility you’d get for running Dagger/Focus…and it deals less damage too.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Then you approach the kind of percentages that currently exist with RNG, thus keeping legendaries rare and rewarding only those who are skilled enough.

I object to your use of the word ‘keeping’. At the moment, the legendaries do not require any kind of exceptional skill. Your statement that the RNG makes legendaries rewards for skilled players is false.

Also, due to the way random drops work, the process is currently 100% time based. The only difference is that some are lucky and get it sooner, making it cost less time, while others are unlucky and get it later. Precursors can already be bought through the tokens known as ‘gold’.

So hence, the original poster’s suggestion doesn’t differ all that much from the system we already have at the moment.

What is the best sigil for a D/D and staff?

in Elementalist

Posted by: ThiBash.5634

ThiBash.5634

If you swap attunements regularly, without any boon duration buffs, Sigil of Battle gives you 6 stacks of might (210 power & 210 condition damage). There’s no sigil that comes close to that. With boon duration buffs, it goes up as high as 315.

To be honest, I think they should tone it down a bit. Getting nearly a 20% damage boost from a signet is just crazy.

What I think of the dungeons now

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ThiBash.5634

ThiBash.5634

No one ever said AC explorable is level 35 content. Regardless of the level you’re scaled to, explorable dungeon paths are part of end game content. They’re balanced around players being sufficiently experienced and geared.

ArenaNet claims it’s doable at that level because they scale down to it. Meaning a group of level 35’s should be able to complete it. It may be hard, but it shouldn’t be impossible. Especially considering the fact that at that level, people are less experienced.

Seriously, I love this game, but the dungeon design is just bad. GW1’s dungeons were much, much better (and the separate Hard Mode played a large part in that).

What I think of the dungeons now

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ThiBash.5634

ThiBash.5634

The issues aren’t so much the dungeons, as it is that each dungeon consists of either:

-auto attack snoozefest
-instagib kill machanics

There is no middle ground. Either you get stuff that kills you instantly, despite wearing tank gear, or you get something that’s so mind numbingly easy that even at 10% hp, the fight lasts too long.

And then there’s the stuff that’s plain broken, like the CM path 2 powder keg run. Stuff like that is simply impossible for inexperienced players without glitching.

Of course, another issue is the fact that at level 10, the fractal mechanics change suddenly. It would have been nice to get a heads up about that. Would have saved us quite a few wipes.

AoE nerf, brace yourselves

in Elementalist

Posted by: ThiBash.5634

ThiBash.5634

People in here are pathetic.

Maybe you should ask yourselves: what is it exactly that makes me mad, dissapointed and so pathetic? Is it A-net telling me that they are going to look at a few AoE-skills? Or is it perhaps because im investing too much time playing games and need to get a real life?

Please take a deep breath. You know NOTHING about what A-net is going to do. They probably don’t even know themselves yet.

But sure, A-net only exists to make your life miserable.

You saw what they did to Evasive Arcana. We’re just trying to make sure they won’t make the same mistake again.

What you should also consider is that many peopl love to play the staff, even if it’s clumsy for actual 1v1 fighting. Since AoE is pretty much all the staff has going for it atm, taking that way would be a disaster. And that’s said to people who already feel (somewhat justly) the staff’s burden of not being able to keep up with other weapons both on eles and other professions. They get outranged by rangers, out dpssed and out aoed by warriors, and outbuffed by guardians. Taking away AoE leaves us with nothing.

Personally, I don’t really mind losing AoE but I would like to see some compensation or other. Turning the staff in something similar to the longbow, with AoE area skills and single target burst skills, would certainly go well with me.

It’s not a weird thing to have concerns about things. Also, it’s not a bad thing to point out potential problems. If Anet has already adressed them, fine. If they hadn’t thought of it yet, they may be able to alter things before the patch comes out. But giving no feedback doesn’t make anyone happy, and doesn’t benefit the game either.

Not sure why they decided to make this change and ruin a great skill. There was certainly no bug or oddity on the mechanic which required a split

And 2 finishers…to be honest, it almost makes me feel jealous (being a staff ele and all).

dd gets more loot than staff?

ThiBash.5634

please inform me of how d/d can get double the mf that a staff provide?

Perhaps through two daggers, both having MF on them, as opposed to one staff having MF?

Sigils of luck do not stack so its only 3% more and youd have to be a savant to notice a difference in drops…

^ now, there is a player with logic, common sense and knowledge.

3%+3%=6% on each weapon and every little helps if you are going to use it, Also if you are using two weapons you can run SoL on one while having 6% on the other then swap out when your stack is built.

Two important things to keep in mind when talking about sigils:

Same type sigils do not stack.
Sigils with a cooldown share the same cooldown with other cooldown sigils.

No, you don’t get twice the effect, but you do build stacks twice as fast.

However, what I was referring to in my original post was the fact that 2 single-handed weapons can get twice as much Magic Find as 1 double-handed weapon. However, it was of course a joke, as I realize it won’t matter that much in practice.

Some gear questions about the elementalist

in Elementalist

Posted by: ThiBash.5634

ThiBash.5634

If you’re going glass cannon then that means you’d want your target to go down sooner rather than later. With that in mind, going for precision/critical damage seems more logical than condition damage (spike vs damage over time).

With your defensive set, clerics does pretty well because it combines reducing incoming damage with stronger heals. That means you will get less damage per hit and also fill up your health more quickly, making it relatively easy to keep yourself alive during longer fights. Vitality on the other hand, helps preventing spikes to take you down instantly (and is much more powerful than toughness in that respect).

As for the sigils, keep in mind that any sigil with a cooldown shares that cooldown with other sigils (regardless of the type of cooldown). Which unfirtunately, severly limits the amount of possible combinations. :-)

Human Gods...

ThiBash.5634

As a history major in college(which obviously contributes to my angst here), I am very attuned to the folly of modern writers when they try to portray the past in a light that doesn’t try to get as close to the truth as possible.

As a history major, you of all people should know that history, in no small part, is based on the perspective of the person tellign the story. It has been so for humans in the past. It’s even true to some extent for humans nowadays. And there’s nothing stopping the Guild Wars humans from seeing things from their perspective, especially at the time when they had little contact with other species. And even then, seperate belief systems existed. The Great Dwarf wasn’t part of human culture, and the Dwarves didn’t revere the human gods.

And on a side note, why would it be so impossible for omnipotent beings to represent themselves in the way best suited to aid their followers? For all we know, there could be an omnipotent being that shows itself as ‘the humand gods’ to the humans, as ‘eternal alchemy’ to the asura, and as ‘not existing’ to the charr. With beings that can virtually do anything, such a thing would very much be possible.

And furthermore, they meant it to stay a human-centric game otherwise we would have seen more races in the first two expansions.

We get the Tengu and the Centaurs. There’s also the Dwarves. All of them are more or less civilized races. The main difference was that, unlike the humans, they weren’t as advanced and expansionistic in their goals. As for the Charr, can you imagine Adelbern admitting that the Charr aren’t violent brutes with the intellect of a pea? Of course not.

Couldn’t agree more with this.

Then you’re both doing something wrong. First of all, the glyph has a 120 seconds cooldown (96 with trait) which kicks in the second your elemental goes down. Just bought a Whisperer’s Secret Staff on my alt, to be used on my main. However, it was soulbound on acquire.

No problem I thought, I can just transfer the skin to a non-soul bound staff and then use it on my main.

However, the staff I transferred the skin to also immediately became souldbound. Unlike in the past, where you could transfer the starter headgear items to different skins.

Seeing as how this bug just cost me 5 gold + a fine transmutation stone + 3 gold for an exotic staff, I was wondering if there was:

a) a way to fix this so I can still use the staff.
b) the possibility to warn players for this in the future, and to make it so that professions cannot buy weapons they cannot use (in this case, a staff soulbound to an engineer)
c) a refund of the gold I’ve spent.

I know c isn’t an option, and a will be a longshot. However, if b could be implemented, I’d be happy with that.
