The poster trying to help you was right in his suggestions, if a setting is causing the problem in the game, that does not rule out HW issue, that setting could be just what puts it over the top and makes the HW issue or conflict show it self.

If you knew much about computers like you claim, you would also know a game does not optimize for drivers, OEM’s of hardware do that, and they only look at big box games, and today that is FPS’s, as it sells cards, this happens all the time even at the expense of performance of lesser games on the market.

The people who are having trouble with NV cards/driver probably, like the other poster trying to help you suggested, have HW problems or a driver/software conflict somewhere. Boasting about how much you know, when asking for help with a problem you can’t fix, is never a good sign, when asking for help, and others who know what they are talking about try and help, listen, even if you already tried it, do it again, often times you over look something because you know in your head thats not it, when it really is.

I have seen this many time before when someone had a OCed computer that they Prime and IBT tested for days at a time crashes with a new game and they blame the game, when come to find out, the game stressed the HW in a way the synthetic tests did not and caused the instability to show its self.

DX9 is used for many MMO’s for the fact that most people who play them do not have the best HW, or have HW that supports the newest features, it is about potential player coverage and not out right eye candy, even though DX11 has some features that might help performance, this again is often only for people with higher end HW and does not help those on low end HW much. WoW also only added this suport with newer expansions, GW2 also might get DX11 support with an expansion, as it was talked about before Beta that there were plans for DX11 support. If that happens or not will depend on how well the game did/does.

Bad players play War. Good ones play guard

I have seen more than a few good warrior players, granted, with the number I see of them in relation to other classes, this statement might have some truth, but is not the rule. You have poor players on every class, it just so happens it shows less on warrior.

I have found very few warriors who will stay and fight me, most run right off or take off 5 seconds into the fight when their health drops to 25% and I am still over 80%. About a month ago I ran into a warrior trying to take a camp, ran in and he took off and I followed, after his skills came off CD and his health back up (I am guessing) he turned around and engaged….We fought for a long kitten time, well over 10mins of non stopped bashing each other before I had a finger forget where it should have been and missed timing on my heal and got downed. Had I not screwed up, I am not sure either of us would have won without the other making a mistake, after he finished me he bowed twice and then saluted, so I am assuming he found it as good a fight as I did.

I was wrong, the h60 does more for cooling than the 212, but I still highly advise against it and get a quality air cooler be it BeQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 2, Noctua D14, Phanteks TC14, or something like those if you want to spend in that range.

I also agree on the OCZ, get a Corsair or Seasonic unit, you cant go wrong with either.

Watch out for the reviews that show the H60 vs 212+, the reviews are often with them both maxed out and the fan on the H60 is REALLY loud (I have one that I use to use on my GPU) so the max cooling might be the same, but not in the same class, as the noise level of the H60, for me at least when max, is not acceptable. I right now have an old TRUE, with a single AP-13 fan, and it cools my i5 better than the H60 does with a AP-15.

IMO when ur budget is limited, kitten is a bad choice. YES its a very handy addition, and those of us who use them would hate to be without one… BUT they are expensive for what they are and the dont actually increase FPS, they just make things more convieniant.
If i were u, i would ditch the SSD or at the very least lower it to a 128gb one and put more money into the CPU cooler and/or GPU.
If u keep the SSD then note also that, unless u have space issues inside ur case, u would be better of spending that same amount of money u currently have in the H60, for a aircooler instead. A $65 aircooler will perform better than the H60 and be quieter, i.e the Noctua NH-U12S.

This, everytime.

I love my solid state, don’t get me wrong. But unlike other games, GW2 and other MMO’s do not have many loading screens, you can travel allot without ever hitting one, and in WvW, unless you are map swaping for some reason, you never run into them, so the impact of kitten is even less.

The H60 is a good cooler, however, vs higher end air coolers it does not stack up, 10 bucks more can get you top of the top air cooling, not only will it cool better, but will produce less noise while it does it, you also have less points of failure and if the 1 or 2 fans on it do fail, it’s a easy and cheap fix, while with a AIO water cooler, it’s trash.

You can also get far cheaper RAM, as it has little impact on performance, and get another PSU, stay away from OCZ, as number one, they are probably going to go under soon (filed bankruptcy) and so any warranty might not be up held and OCZ is not known for making the best PSU’s to start with.

PvE reward vs WvW reward

in WvW

Posted by: TinkTinkPOOF.9201

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

I thought WvW actually having fun content unlike pve was a reward enough.

I see this reason all the time, and I really don’t like it.

I love WvW. It is really all I do, I never, and I do mean never do PvE after I did map completion/hit 80. And because I like WvW and not PvE means I have to have a harder time making a living in the game than someone who also has fun with PvE?

Don’t get it wrong, these people love PvE, and get huge (in relation to WvW) rewards for doing what they like. Why should we not? I see people making massive amounts of gold a day, while in WvW, even if I don’t buy siege or upgrade anything, I still don’t make a 10th of what they do in the same time frame even if I am running with a zerg, in which case bags are easy to get.

So, I make my case that just because we like a given game mode does not mean we should be punished in relation to another.

Also, most people I know in WvW do not really care for the new gear, and would have been 100% fine with it being left out of WvW, but it is not and gives a good stat advantage, however, you either have to take lots of time to get it in WvW, or go play PvE, or buy lots of gems to get gold and buy it all outright.

WvW rewards have made some good progress, however it is still far and away behind PvE.

Low FPS, but no bottleneck!

Even the best of intel processors don’t maintain amazing fps at all times. .

Indeed. My i5 at 4.8 takes a hit in zergs, normal game play, with most things maxed, I can get 100+ fps, but large clashes in WvW and I can drop to 30 really fast. Never been so low that it was unplayable, other than skill lag but that is a whole other issue.

All we can do is hope and dream GW2 gets an expansion and they do a big change to the game engine with it, other wise we might see a fps here or there from patches and some server side lag addressed, but that’s about it.

How do you cap fps?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: TinkTinkPOOF.9201

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

Because having fps jump from 180 and then to 30 one minute to the next can be stressful on the system. I would like more than 60 because 60 doesn’t always feel that smooth unlike say 80 or 90.

So that method doesn’t work anymore?

Your monitor probably only runs at 60hz, so you would not notice more, unless you are not running vsync, in which case the feeling of less “smooth” is probably coming from screen tearing. Also, going from any fps to another has no effect on how a system is stressed, so if you think this is somehow going to make your hardware last longer, it’s not.

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

Ah, well now I know what that amd patch does. Didn’t think the order of the pods mattered, they share resources and the FP unit but other then that they were equal. I’m still not sure how you guys consider %80 a bottleneck when I can easily peg both pods at %100 which means I have %20 of the CPU sitting idle that no one can answer.

You will almost never see a single thread get to 100%, because a process is eating up a whole thread worth of clock cycles does not mean it will always be on the same thread, the OS manages this and often times moves processes from thread to thread, to more even out the load across the cores. If you look in perfmon and check out the threads being used, you can see the process using a whole cores worth of clock cycles, that right there, will be the bottleneck. Also, even if a process is very highly threaded, but ONE of those threads bottlenecks, the rest still has to wait on it. The other posters are correct, your CPU is bottlenecking the system, end of story.

Download CPU-Z and GPU-Z and check the temps of everything while running the game. Also DL and install the latest video drivers for your card. Also, please list all hardware, if you don’t know how on the CPU-Z website, they also have PC Wizard which will list all hardware in your system.

While you are at it, download OCCT, it is a all in one that can test CPU and GPU, which will give a good idea if the system is over heating and if you run the PSU test, and it crashes, it will also let us know if the PSU cant keep up.

Check and see if you have any new mini dump files, if you do, upload them and post them here.

I see tons of warriors, and I roam all the time, sad part is 90% of them run as soon as they see my guard, they don’t even try to fight. I use to see almost never a necro, now, I see them the most next to warriors. I also agree I see the mesmer count going up, but still very few compared to warriors and necros. I seldom see another guard when roaming, but a good number in zergs. I see thieves from time to time, just when I do they tend to be killing off a yak or the like and run as soon as they see something, very few that fight. Engis I see from time to time also, but the number seems to have gone up in the past month or so from my own personal encounters. Eles I see almost never, and when I do they are with a zerg, very VERY few do I ever see while roaming, and rangers I see almost never and when I do see them they are almost always upleveled.

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

If you’re so outnumbered or being beaten so bad that they are ressing fully dead players you had no chance anyway.

Have you played this game? Many WvW blobs are just that, lots of people aimlessly following a person because they have a blue dorito over their head. I have been in many 10-15 man teams just mowing through 30-40 man blobs, downing/killing many of them, without losing a single one of our own, however, by the time we are making our pass back, 90% of their players are back up and over time can wear you down. We are pretty good at splitting them up making it harder to res full dead and have wiped many groups like this, but after a point it becomes impossible to kill them off because of sheer numbers and the aoe cap being on the larger teams side. And if it is impossible to wipe a team that size then it will not hurt anything because once they wipe our smaller team they can res their dead. Or, if we are right and wiping a team that much bigger than you is possible, then it will make having tactics a important role in WvW and making smaller guild teams and havoc teams FAR more effective.

Out of combat res only, I really like, I would also like the removal of the downed state, or at the VERY least, make it so only one person can rally off of someone/something dying, not 10+ people, make it so out of everyone who tagged that one person, the one who did the most damage to them is the one who rallies, not everyone who tickled him. The fact I can run in with my guard with a staff and tag half the zerg and rally over an over is just stupid and gives the advantage that if you throw enough bodies at the problem you will reach a point where it nulls out any skill required, which is the problem of karma trains, they have laughable skill, but so many numbers it matters little. It would really change the tactics needed for allot of fighting that goes on in WvW right now.

The Quadro and FirePro cards are for workstations and the like, they are not gamer cards, and are in no way made to play games with, from how the card is made down to the drivers, it is optimized for a completely different working environment than a main stream card. This is why, even though the card might have the same GPU core as a main stream card, it does not perform the same in games, however, throw some CAD, rendering etc work at it, and it will bash the main stream card into the ground.

Since he’s already getting a new computer, just grabbing a new case would definitely make sense, since he would be able to do the cable management and get more case fans, all in a case that will likely be better in the first place.

I do agree that you should spend a decent amount on a case, though, if you want something with fancy looks. If you don’t mind something simple, a Source 210 for $40 isn’t a bad choice.

This can be sort of hit or miss. I was able to drop my laptop’s HDD in my desktop, run driver sweeper+install new drivers, use it for 4 months without issues, then put it back in the laptop, driver sweeper+reinstall drivers again, and it was fine. I’ve talked to others who had the same luck. However, there are also a lot of people who didn’t get so luck.

Edit: Yeah, order can really matter, though.
Case > PSU > CPU/Mobo/RAM (Depending on what he has atm) > GPU is likely the best way to go.

If he is building new, or upgrading over time, yes, a new case is a good investment and even if upgrading at some point probably necessary for fitment. However, if he is just looking to improve his current computer until he builds his new one, he would be better off with a new HS or fans, which could be moved over to the new build. As most computers are far more limited by the small stock HS’s or thermistor fans than out right CFM potential.

Also, if you know what to look for and shop around, you can find good cases, such as a Lian Li for 40-60 bucks, I picked up my P280 for $60 because I shopped around and waited. There are allot of good cheap(er) cases on the market if you know what to buy, but most people go for flash and looks over function, because they have never had to work inside a computer case before.

Running the old OS with new hardware can be done, however it opens the door for all sorts of problems and conflicts with the new hardware/drivers. It is always best to do a new install as it can save massive headaches down the line.

And as for upgrade, it might be a GPU or all situitation, as if its older hardware, such as core2 and DDR2, upgrading would mean new mobo/CPU/RAM all at once. However, regardless of this, the PSU should be the first thing when upgrading OEM’s

Yes, yes he is.

I’m building my next one. Each month I buy a piece – case, motherboard, cpu, etc.

Cases can help airflow, but for lowerend, non-overclocked computers, it is not needed. The stock cooling can be improved much more by putting the time and money into a better heatsink, cable managment, and better case fans. Do not however buy into the 12+ fan cases, it is a waste and will net you more noise than anything else. I run a rig where everything is OCed and a mass amount of HDD’s, inside of a P280 case, which is not known as being a “high airflow” case, rather it is meant for quiet operation, I can run my system with 5 fans if I so wanted, however the change from 5 fans vs 2 is minimal.

If you do get a new case, remember you will have to live and work with it, the cheaper “fancy” looking cases are often cheaply built and a pain to work in. Also, once you start parting a system together, change the PSU first, then work from there. Also, being a OEM computer, you will have to upgrade either the GPU or mobo first, as most of the mobos are BIOS locked and only support a given set of CPU’s. Also, when changing out parts like mobo and CPU, it will reject your windows license key, you will need to reinstall the OS, which needs to be done anyway as it needs all new drivers for the mobo/cpu, while it can be done without, it is going to save you allot of trouble down the line to do it right the first time. When installing, do NOT activate the key, tell it to activate later, as it will never let you install other wise. After install, go to activate the key but check over the phone, it will give you a code to tell them on the phone and they will check and see its a legit copy and give you a new license key for it.

Twink Uplevels

in WvW

Posted by: TinkTinkPOOF.9201

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

The OP said that stats like this were possible and all Jedge did was show a screenshot of said stats. Does that mean a level 80 can’t beat that? No, it simply means that those stats are achievable as an up leveled character which is what was being debated. Jedge never said an up leveled could beat a level 80 in exotics. OP perhaps implied it but regardless of that the stats are achievable. In any case scaling is fine and or needs a boost in def actually to allow up leveled characters to not be rally bots.

No one has debated you can get stat numbers, my point is that Jedge was trying to prove it can be done, when no one is questioning it, rather, we are making points to the OP’s remark that uplevels need a nerf in stats. And the only reason to complain about something like this for WvW is because they got beat by one, while myself, every time I see a upleveled I think easy bag or in a zerg I think “oh look, a rally bot for all my down teammates”. There is no reason to nerf upleveled scaling, because as it is, they are already incredibility weak, without taking into account lack of utility skills.

Rather, I would like to see WvW more like PvP where you become a true level 80. No more grinding to hit 80 in PvE before I can play the game mode I prefer.

A worthy foe. Look at all those beautiful locked skills. Getting hit by 1,4k vapor blade surely hurts.
I usually fight upleveleds while I am naked to try balancing somewhat the fight :/

The point of this screenshot was to prove the stats of an uplvl can be modified to a high point. Also, I’m wearing a scepter.

Lets meet up in WvW, I bet I down that in 2 seconds, and do 3-4k auto attack crits. People like this are nothing but rally bots, and I agree with the other posters that someone getting killed by an uplevel in a 1v1 encounter is someone who really needs to look at their game play. Sure, you can make them do some pretty numbers, but still far and away from someone who has access to level 80 gear stats, traits and runes/sigils. So if you are losing to them, you would stand no chance vs a level 80 char.

Showing you can make numbers in the stat window means nothing to how strong this character would be vs a normal level 80.

I let it run for about 10 minutes at 1920×1080 with quality set to high. The temp maxed out at 96c.

For a stock card that is not being OCed, 96C is WAY to high, either the card is really dirty, or you have a problem, such as poor contact with the HS to the GPU core, or a faulty fan. So unless you are gaming outside in the summer, I would be checking to see what is wrong, cleaning the card is easy and cheap (also check and list your vcore and clock speeds from the card and set them to default). If that does not correct the problem, you might want to pick up some TIM and reapply it to the HS and make sure it has good contact.

Evga only makes NV cards, but Precision is not of their own, rather just like MSI it is a reskin of riva tuner. So unless Evga changed something from the last time I had an AMD card it should work with AMD, however it is not uncommon for mfg’s to lock down software.

With that said, I like MSI better, as the last time I used both, MSI had more options unlocked and is a cleaner UI and less flash, it gives you the info and settings you want/need without going over board on eye candy.

I would pay/buy gems to clone my current chars so I can create every profession for every situation. Without going though the whole 1-80 process again.

This.

I did map completion, and leveled my main already, and that was enough PvE for me, I don’t care to see everything 15 times over, or grind till my eyes bleed to level that many more chars to 80. I have started 4 alts, but have not made it far, as I work full time, I can either choose to spend my gaming time for a week or two getting one alt to 80, or play my 80 and have fun…You can guess which option almost always wins out. After getting off work, the last thing I want to do is “work” in a game.

And if anyone of power reads this, I would be more than willing to pay $20 a pop for a level 80 scroll.

They seem to be putting effort into WvW, wether its all possitive is up for debate.

But the ruins were added not to long ago with a big overall change to the borderland map, for the sake of roamers gameplay.
hey are comming out with an overflow WvW map in the near future, and they are going to make WXP acountbound. Granted it shouldve been in the first place… And they made OS a place where you can do GvG again.

This is all stuff based on community feedback, and its all happening in a fairly short period of time.
That doesnt excuse that there is still a lot that can be improved for WvW, but saying arenanet flat out ignores or doesnt care for WvW is just not true.

I agree it seems like things are “happening” for WvW right now, though most of them are fixes to things, or changing things to how they should have been from the start. But it is progress and I am not going to kitten about the form it comes in.

I would like to see more polish and fixes to problems than new content, however, if they are going to add new content, I would not mind it being in the form of gem items to help support this goal, myself and others I know would be more than willing to buy gems…It is just that we do WvW only and there is nothing we care to buy. I love weapon and armor skins, but am not going to grind PvE for them and there are very few choices from the gem shop, and I already have bought multiple sets for the ones I do like. So please, come out with more weapon/armor skins for the gem shop.

I will point out that unlike most PSUs the Ultra series will only pull what it needs when it needs it. ie: If my computer only needs 400-500w at one time the PSU will only feed out that amount. They are just designed to do that.

PSU’s don’t push their rating at all times, my 800W PSU, under normal use, pulls 340W from the wall, so less than 250W after taking into account AC to DC losses and UPS losses.

ALL power supplies provide power as it is needed. They are switching (pulse width modulated) and will adjust themselves depending on load. They don’t pull their rated power constantly from the AC line.

As Tink said, it’s important to pay attention to the rail(s) current rating. I recommend (at least for the 12 volt rail) a minimum of 32 Amps. Is that the OP’s problem? I don’t know for sure in this case, but it sure wouldn’t hurt to get a better PSU – such as Corsair.

Another thing that’s important to look at is switching noise (ripple). If it’s too high it can cause some very strange problems indeed.

If you are running a dedicated GPU, 30A is easy to find on PSU’s today, even pretty common on 400W PSU’s, so there is really no reason not to, other than people buying into watt ratings, or “OMFG THIS PSU HAS OVER 9000 12V RAILS!! THAT MEANS IT HAS TO BE BETTER” it is sad what some people will fall for and even more sad that so many PSU resellers will market for it.

Noise and ripple can cause problems, as if they drop for long enough its the same as a brown out to the computer, it might not be enough to shut it down, but cause it to hang and the HW to crash.

It’s the one thing most people do so little research on, yet it is the thing powering everything else in the computer. Back when I did custom builds and repair, it was the cause of so many problems of people building their own computers. Some of the weirdest problems and errors, open up the computer and sure enough, some no name 800W+ PSU, swap it out for one of my back up 400W seasonics and what do you know, no more problems.

Sure, this might not be the OP’s problem, but when I see shotty PSU’s in a rig and its having trouble, it is the first thing I look at.

I upgraded the power supply since I was told you could never have enough so its kitten Watt (Ultra LS 55 Black lifetime series) as opposed to the the 400-450 that came with it.

Who ever told you this knows nothing about PSU’s. Ultra is known for having some really kittenty PSU’s, and I would tell you who makes them for them, however Ultra is so shotty of a PSU reseller, that they often put fake part numbers on their PSU’s to seem like they are made from a better 3rd party, but you take them apart and look at the build quality and it is clear they are not good. Their 750W PSU’s have been tested and many sites have had them fail when trying to pull only 400W from them. Also, the 12v rail is rated for 23A at only 25C, which is laughable to think a PSU is going to run at 25C, most PSU’s under load will be closer to 40-50C, not to mention that 23A is low to start with as other quality PSU’s push that many amps and more on PSU’s as low as 350W. Watts are marketing with PSU’s, it is ALL about rails and amps and build quality. Do you still have the PSU it started with? What brand is it? Can you get a photo of it or the sticker thats on the side for rails and amps?

I would be more willing to bet the PSU is crapping out. DL OCCT and run the PSU test, it’s for sure fire to crash if it is the PSU, but if it does its a good sign it is.

People ask for dx11 because of that, it benefited wow greatly. But gw2 has other problems. The first thing they would need to do is rewrite the engine to be multi threaded. None of these things are happening though.

I don’t feel they will ever optimize the game client side because they probably do not have the resources or man power to do so.

Those are beta features for an expansion that was made with it in mind. WoW also has a good bit more man power and money to dump into building a new system like that. They also showed that it made use of extra processing power, while systems already maxed had almost no impact, showing the system is not more “optimized” but opened up to make use of the extra power of high end systems. And the people who need to see gains the most are people probably running hardware that does not support DX11 in the first place. Don’t get me wrong here though, I would love to see DX11 support added, even if only for performance gains on highend stuff, I would love to see my processor and GPU go over 60-70% usage. I just don’t see it happening, or at least not in the way people seem to think just adding DX11 support will.

What do you want DX11 for? What do you think adding support for DX11 will do for the game?

Well DX11 is capable of more fps while still producing the same graphics. By changing to DX 11 you get a significant performance boost. Also it allows you to add realtime tessellation which means cloth behaves like real life. It allows for better multi threading and also allows shaders to be used for non graphical tasks(helping to clear up cpu bottlenecks by allowing more cores to work and using gpu to help cpu). GW2 could benefit from a greater degree of multi threading as by all reports it doesn’t even load up all the I-7 core much less the new AMD 8 cores. Basically with my old WoW comp I saw a 20 fps performance boost in capital cities from switching to DX11 over DX9.

DX11 it self does non of this. This can be seen in the many games that added DX11 support after the fact and have far, far worse performance on DX11 than DX9. The game has to be made to make use of the resources on hand, and just adding DX11 support will not make the game look better without again coding and changing the game for it, which is why DX11 games that had DX11 as an after thought (most console ports come to mind) take a performance hit rather than gain for the same eye candy. So watch out what you wish for, GW2 is not a eye candy rich game, MMO wise sure it’s not bad looking, but it is by no means an example of what a DX11 game can look like, nor will it ever be, MMO’s never go for looks, one of the main reasons being that most people who play are going to have older less powerful computers that just cant keep up, or support the newer abilities, I think it would be interesting if someone from anet could give us a bit of data on how many of its user base has a computer/hardware that can even support DX11, and that would really give you an idea of it ever happening or not. DX11 support was talked about before launch, but if it gets added, I see it only happening with an expansion pack, I don’t see them adding it on its own because of the work involved.

Non-zerg ways to help my server?

Upgrade the things you hold, refresh siege, kill yaks or escort your servers yaks, stomp people when your server has bloodlust, rather than DPS them down, as it adds 1 point for every stomp. Scout, keep the map updated to zergs moving around the map you might see, or find out your servers teamspeak and join in, that way you can hear where zergs are going and help scout. Run supply to places, people who run in zergs will often not stay behind to repair walls/gates etc after attack, so run supply from close camps etc to repair so you don’t drain the supply from the tower/keep for siege etc when it comes under attack again.

Also, when you are running with a zerg, learn how they work, a thief in a zerg, who like you is a glass build, is nothing more than a rally bot for the other server. something you can do is notice where their casters/healers etc are, they are often behind the zerg, or running around the outside, find them and take them out, you can run around the outside without much problem and they are often so focused on spamming 1 at the zerg they never see it coming.

Knowing you are just added new hardware to the computer would have been very helpful information, just so you know. Ram does not pull much power, and wattage means nothing at all when it comes to PSU’s, build and amperage on a given rail do. You can buy a PSU that’s rated for 2,000W but burns up at 400W. 750W was probably over kill for your system, no less 1,000W.

im telling u its not my pc, i gave up playing gw2 last night after 3 shutdowns, and played battlefield 4 on ultra setting for over 2 hours, load gw2 shuts my comp off in ten mins, my temps are stable cpu idles at 9c cause im watercooled never gets above 30c under max load and my gpu never goes above 70c if my comp is gonna shut off its gonna shut off playing battlefield 4 its not a hardware issue everyone is so quick to say its a hardware issue

and tink tink its like someone pulls the plug out of the wall

Ruling something out that has not been ruled out, is a good way to over look a problem, as I said before, because one thing does not cause a crash but another one does, does not mean the hardware is not the issue. That would be like running Prime and coming back stable, then running IBT and it BSODing and saying its not the hardware because prime passes as stable.

Also, your CPU is not idling at 9C, you are either looking at the wrong temp, or the program you are using is reading the wrong or nonexistent sensor. Watercooling has nothing to do with it as WCing, even with the biggest loop you can think of, will never drop below ambient temps, so unless you are gaming outside in winter, you will never see 9C (48F) CPU temps.

Check for mini dump files (found in SystemRoot\Minidump) and if you have any upload them, that will tell us allot about whats going on with the system.

You will not build a computer in this day and age with any budget that will not drop frames when hitting a zerg.

This part is true because the issue in WvW zerg is actually the Internet/server connection, not the hard ware itself in general. =P

That is the skill lag, the FPS drop is client side. Both are pretty big problems in WvW zergs.

Because you test with a program does not mean something is stable. I have seen systems go through days of Prime and/or IBT and come back 100% stable, only to have a youtube video set off a BSOD, or even doing nothing and BSOD, only to find out it was because the the CPU idle state was setting to low of a voltage because of Vdroop and becoming unstable. Everything stresses the CPU/RAM and sub systems in different ways, so you can never claim it is not something until you find the problem.

When you say “shut off” do you mean it goes through a windows shut down, or it just powers off as if you pulled the power, or does it BSOD or black screen?

Now if you want to build a computer that will stay over a given FPS when in a zerg that might be doable, depending on what that number is, however, it probably will not happen inside of your budget.

The map allocation rotates so it’s easy enough to get the majority of the spots, he’s not clear about what hes missing, so I can only recommend patience.

Go to the WvW thread and you’ll see threads complaining that WvW players HAVE to go to PvE to get materials for ascended gear to make them more competitive etc. ANet want you to experience different parts of the game, don’t like it, don’t play or stop with map completion.

Not only that, but most WvW could care less about PvE maps, and to get map completion, we have to spend a whole lot more time to clear allot more maps and PvE content to get it.

As for clean install and uninstalls, both NV and AMD are far better, in the good days, they use to leave crap everywhere, but that is long gone and the uninstalls are pretty good, while it is best to do clean installs, more so when having problems, but I have been doing updates right over the old drivers for well over a year now on many systems without a single problem.

Also, replacing the TIM, be sure to clean all the old TIM off first, and when putting on new TIM to not use allot, people tend to use to much which can cause higher temps. You want to use a dot or line in the middle of the GPU die which just enough so when putting the heatsink back on it spreads out just enough to cover. Depending on the TIM you got, the mfg’s site will have a how to of putting it on with pictures and all in most cases.

It is a gfx problem, the driver crash you talked about is going to be a corrupt GPU driver install and as such you should go to the OEM website and DL the newest drivers for the card and then uninstall the old one and reinstall the new. If the drivers are not the problem, then it will be over heating with the card, and just because you think it is clean does not mean it is, open it up and check it. It is also a old card, TIM can get hard and lose some of its ability to conduct heat, so it might be worth replacing (its cheap). Also, the fan could be going bad or the card is taking a crap on you. As for checking GPU temps, DL GPU-Z.

AMD Optimization

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: TinkTinkPOOF.9201

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

Just want to cut in here and point out that, if ur gunna look at reviews on how CPU’s affect gaming performance, u need to look at reviews that set the game settings so that the limitation is the CPU. So any review with a game like farcry with settings at 108op or higher with very high/max settings …ignore. Specialy ignore them if they only use a single GPU.

Those that use low settings, those are the ones u want to look at.

Correct, when you drop down the rez etc on a game it removes how many frames the GPU can render and puts the load on the CPU for world updates etc. HardForum does this all the time when testing CPU’s.

Also, the whole “AMD optimization”…It has nothing to do with AMD, it has to do with how parallel a process is and how many threads the CPU has. When looking at multi threaded renders, AMD and Intel in the same price bracket are very close, but renders are able to make use of all the threads, AMD for the price are awesome still, it is just that AMD went the high thread count route before everything else caught up. Most games for some time only used up to two threads and the same with software, even today the amount of software that can make real use of more than 2 threads are pretty small. When we start seeing games coded to make use of 8+ threads we will see AMD fair much better, but we are not at that point and is why Intel is king with the gaming market right now.
