Nerf ACs, Buff Ballistas and Reduce Supply

Boy, I hate to see what half of you would do back when ACs were actually powerful before the first nerf.

Don’t stand in red circles, and remember there is more than just rams and catas right on a wall. Cata range when well paced is out of AC range, so are trebs. You can also place catas on walls that are out of sighting ability of ACs as well as in tunnels/hills etc. learn some tactics, that is the problem I have seen with playing since beta. Old time Coms had tactics, more than “build as much siege as we can right up on the wall/gate and hope for the best”. It took time and skill, things were planned out hours in advanced with roamers building golems or trebs, using stealth and ports to get golems in place or hiding them all over the map. Setting up golem/cata bubble rotations, requiring ANYONE manning siege to be in TS for call outs.

But no, lets just Nerf ACs again so we can AFK get into towers/keeps. ACs and other siege is supposed to make it harder to get into something, that is the whole point. If you can’t take the time or tactics required to clear them or avoid them, you don’t deserve the tower/keep.

And for those talking about “only” wanting to fight players and removing siege altogether, that’s called PvP.

Don’t want inclusiveness? If thats the case anet needs to drop guilds altogether, as that one of the whole points, some guilds are very open, some are the definition of inclusiveness. Guild only events allow group play how they want, when they want, it also helps push people to join a guild and be active and not some random people running around with a tag not interacting with anyone. If they want people to be active with others, guilds do this FAR better than random tags and pugs, which have little to no communication and in many cases arguing if there is.

Enough of this PC crap.

I asked for a refund already, the gating was a joke, and the amount of work to get a skill set that is ALREADY behind a paywall for someone who only does WvW (we are talking hundreds if not thousands of hours), I will not be buying another anet game, they have ruined any faith I had in them, the game was sold on the idea of play how you want, and that is no longer the case. WvW was always punished compared to PvE, and the xpack was a back handed slap to the face. I already unloaded my accounts of all gold and gear and gave it to my guild, I wish them the best, but I am voting with my wallet and will be uninstalling the game after this post.

When a game starts charging for things that affect combat, such as whole classes and new skill sets through the xpack, it’s a sign of a money grab and the game going down hill, I don’t mind charging for content, but not for things that affect combat.

It takes so long to try and reach anything you don’t even bother, unless defenders are already in place it’s literally such a long run people give up and log off rather than waste so much time running between places (and fights, I remember wvw had fights, now it has pve mobs).

I got on after buying the xpack, thinking WvW would be packed, get into the BL, to check it out for the first time and I am thinking wtf…One, it’s to spaced out, many thought the old ones were to spaced, so what is this? Forget going somewhere to defend, it’s a joke, all the buffs from small guilds, guild cata cost now, hey, lets not tell them about this so 4 days ago when I bought my 400g in guild catas is now utterly useless, thanks anet!!

Even the Mists, looks like rewards nerf? I never played it much and did not keep up on any changes but chests are gone it seems, and NO ONE on the map, 10mins into any match I use to see 40-50 people even without a com, 15mins into the match, 6 people, yep, 6…

We now know why WvW is always ignored, they had plans on killing it, and it looks like they did a fair job at it. We have no coms on any map at a time my server is always most active, EGB and BLs are all empty, ran around for some time and did not see any enemy players, and only 2 friendlies on the BL.

Seems they all want us to move to Mega blob servers with crappy changes no small group no havok no roaming. Ive ran for 3 hours in wvw and saw 1 enemy. Everythin is fortified on their maps. RIP WvW. Nothing to see here as dead as EoTM.

Anet what drugs were you on when you thought this was a good idea. Every change youve made to wvw made it worse and worse for low pop servers. So sick of it.

Could not agree more…These are the changes they were touting? Who gave input on this? And to think I bought the xpack, time to ask for a refund and retire my account, I will not be playing this kitten.

Why Is Anet Removing The Regular LOVED Maps?

I don’t mind the old maps at all, a bit boring now, but not much “new” to do in them. A change will be good, I do not know if they still plan on bringing back the old maps, but when the new BLs were talked about they said the old maps would be removed from rotation and were going to be worked on. I assumed design changes would take place, they are perfectly good maps, and some changes or updates could make them new and fun again, so we will have to wait and see what happens.

DX11 or DX12>DX9 Engine Please!!! AMD

The game could do much better even with the engine it has now, it just needs to be optimized better, but that requires allot of work. Moving to DX11/DX12 would see even more, the over all complexity of the game is on the low end, yet we have new titles and far more complex renderings hitting much better frame rates on the same HW, that is because of improvements in software.

However, being that GW2 is a hacked up version of their own GW1 engine, it would probably involve an almost full rewrite and would be easier to just move the game to a whole new engine to start with. These days there are many off the shelf and capable engines to pick from, in many cases it makes less and less sense to make your own, however anet already had an engine on hand that worked, and they didn’t need the abilities or power of new engines, so they probably saved a good bit of money by making some changes to the engine to get what they wanted from it.

The game works, and plays for most people just fine, would i like to see improvements? absolutely, and if they are taking input or votes, I will gladly give mine. I see 100FPS+ in most content, that will nose drive in big WvW fights (most settings maxed, other than culling that is set to high), I often drop into the 40’s in mass fights, which is more than playable, though everyone else I know does not have close to what I am running and some see single digits, but those same people would not see much of a gain from DX11/DX12 because their HW does not support it. The biggest problem I have is skill lag in those fights, you have some 60vs60vs60 fights and skill lag hits the whole map, but this is a server problem from my understanding, my FPS never drop under 40, and my ping is a steady 24ms, yet skills will take 1-2min to cast, if they ever cast at all. I don’t know if this is a lack of having enough back-end processing power, or a limit of the games back-end.

Will Stability be Getting a Buff?

IDK for you but here we still call for stab and cc… and waters etc. I’m all for a balance but not going back to the ultimate reign of lazy stab and cc uselessness. NOBODY was playing without stab. NOBODY. It wasn’t ‘counter play’, it was ’let’s make an entire pan of the game irrelevant’. And frankly, ‘control’ is still by far the most crippled member of the damage/support/control triad.

Maybe putting a limit on some cc might be a way to balance things. I’m open to suggestions but going back is not an option for me. Yes, we do have more backlines than before but how is it surprising considering just how many wars and guards were dominating before in the boring hammer train meta?

As a side note, some ppl also seem to mix ‘skill’ with ‘build’ when they call on past glory days. Having a good build, or comp, doesn’t make you ‘skillful’ (specially when the build isn’t even from you and you merely obey the command of the doritos). It makes you better positioned for the battle ahead and maybe more disciplined. If you were playing in a hammer train with ppl you were used to, and all on your side were on voice com in the past while facing a non hammer train of random pugs, you weren’t winning BECAUSE of your awesome skills, you were winning first and foremost because of the builds and coordination you were enjoying and the enemy couldn’t.

A zerk war managing to hold his ground with just his shield equipped vs a cele d/d ele OTOH surely requires no small amount of skill. You aren’t carried by your build/comp for sure. In my book, skillful players do good even when they are at a clear distinct disadvantage, not when they win while surfing their cheese vs players who are not.

In skill groups we call everything, what I was saying is it makes calling stab in zerg busting (15-20vs60) usless, as it’s stripped away before you make it a few steps, and CC calls are not needed in bigger blobs because of how stab works now, CC is so effective even when only being use by face roll blobs, not saying it cant be MORE (much more) effective in skilled hands, just that it is far more effective now. Proper use of boon corruption/stripping and CC application was no issue for our skill groups, so in skill fights of even numbers we still had little issue with CCing the other side when done right, at the right time. No one played without stab because it was a counter to very effective CC, with the nerf it made CC over powered, as for small scale fights and people saying stab in 1vs1 being to OPed, it’s not, it just requires you to pay attention, if you are using a CC skill on someone with stab up well…Thats your fault for wasting the skill. When you create the effect of just throw more of it and it will stick at some point, that is not skill, or counter play, that is just brute force, which is what CC has become.

Also, before the changes, ranged comps were possible, just not effective for a skill team to run, because of lack of squad targeting, and aoe cap limits, which also reward blobbing, casters tend to spread out at range and leave easy DPS targets for the other team, where there is going to be little to no aoe cap limit on that one target and the mixed team will pick them off one by one. However with the stab nerf, and many CCs having no aoe cap and some of those also being unblockable or dodgable, making the only other counter stab.

The current way CC and stab work is broken and very one sided in larger fights, giving further advantage and reason to blob even more, where skill becomes less and less of a factor the more numbers you gather, to the point that even very good skill teams are at huge disadvantages without even taking into account being outnumbered. There needs to be a change to some limits on CC, or a buff/change to stab, that does not mean going back to how it was before, just that a rebalancing needs to take place, it would not hurt to see this take place with the numbers game and aoe caps as well, but I doubt we will ever see that.

Yeah after the change my old raiding guild broke up and I haven’t played WvW since. All we did was zerg busting… Those were some of the best moments I had in WvW.

This. There is no middle ground between cc and stab. All we have done is shifted from one extreme to the other in LARGE (zerg) fights. This change made zero sense to me…

I enjoy zerg busting, if you had a skilled team, you could take on larger numbers of random blobs and gave counter play, because if you speced and give up other options/builds for stab, you could mitigate the bulk of the CC, which is counter play, if you did not build or have well timed stab, you would run out and get CCed to death. Now however, requires even more skill and proper stab calls, but gives a MASSIVE advantage to random CC usage, to the point calling CC doesn’t even matter because there is so much of it that it strips stacks down to nothing. There is also so much speced CC because of this new issue because after a given point it becomes so effective because of how easy stacks are removed. If CC only hit for one stack and anything else for an “immune” time was ignored it would require the CC side to call and have skillful use of CC or it would be wasted, your eles would need to call and stagger static just like guards etc have to call and stagger stab, why is the skillful play limited to one side?

Before the stab nerf, we never had an issue with CCing other zergs, so we never had issue with it, they either speced for it WHICH IS COUNTER PLAY, or they didn’t, if your build or comp depends on CC to win, but the other team is speced to stab, why should you not lose? This is counter play, just like some class builds have hard counters, if you devote to much into something you become weak to something else.

Before we had front line, mid line dmg dealers, back line casters for pure aoe dmg and a few gank, now you see 80% back line casters, you see HUGE groups come to a choke and the fight will stagnate for minutes at a time because the comp is so backline/caster heavy that no one is pushing in. Its become laughable.

I miss the days when you had stab calls, eles calling static fields for people to burst on etc etc, now it’s just throw every CC you have at once on the front line, how is that skillful counter play? It’s not, its face roll.

Ehhh, I agree on everything but your second point. Warriors cannot really…‘bunker’ to the extent that Guardians can, I can think of only one or two builds a Warrior can run to ‘play at bunker’, but those are really only solid on points. As you said, Guardians are without peer the best at condition removal and being tanky innately across all their builds.

But, that is not to dismiss the other three points, Warriors will still reign supreme in popularity.

Guardians are tanky when they trait for it. A Guardian build for damage is far more fragile than a Warrior build for damage and has less CC options in return for maybe more condition cleansing. Overall, Guardians also have only a few tank builds, with most of them evolving around the boring staff+ah crutch.

Not just that, but when we trait for it we are still far behind warrior, because at the same level, they contribute a good deal more DPS and CC. Also, being tanky on a guard also depends on being around teammates, most of the tank builds will melt and hit like a wet noodle if they are caught alone, and forget about trying to run away.

I mained guard since beta, and sadly only tried out warrior for WvW after all the “nerfs” came about, and even though I was new to the class, I was pretty close to the performance level I was on my guard. After playing it more and more I was seeing how high the skill cap was on them and really started to realize why so many people played them and then realized how bad most of them were with the ability and tools they had on hand yet I was still winning most encounters on my guard with them, when facing guards on my warrior I only laughed about how easy it was. I then changed up from a roaming build to a zerg build and ran around with some….The boons, the healing it was unreal, I was thinking to myself about all the people I have heard saying how much better a guard can sustain in a zerg over a warrior, it was laughable. 90% of the time I was the last one standing and a good number of times I still got away! That is unheard of on my guard, unless I am in a roaming medi build, and even then, only if I have not invested to the fight.

I see the most complaints being about not getting a free do over on burst skills, when I first started my warrior I thought that’s how it was, I never spammed it hoping I would get lucky, then after a few days I ended up missing a group on my timing and noticed I didn’t lose any adrenaline…I thought at first it was a glitch or something, and tried it again, it is one of the things I could not believe was normal for the class, which is what brought me back to how low risk, high reward the class is.

no it’s not the trading post, it’s like the skill command not very responsive, sometimes i need to press twice for a skill to work…

Are you playing WvW or at big world events when this happens? Skill lag in these areas are common, and tend to happen anywhere there are large amounts of other players.

This is normal, set sampling to normal, turn off reflections, turn character limit to med. These will have some of the bigger impacts on FPS, then see what you are running.

There is no way for anet to tell if someone is zoom hacking, or if they are running triple monitors.

As such they will not ban anyone for doing it either way. hence zoom hacking is a legit tactic because of this.

Also with all of the new ultrawide monitors coming out, you can’t tell. Sure, they might be “zoom hacking” but they might also just have a nice monitor setup and that is the normal view for them, that is one of the big reasons to have ultrawide or triple monitor setups, the plus side is even bigger in FPS games.

Charging for a QoL change for the game mode that yields the least income…..I’m done, going to uninstall the game and find something else if it is released like this.

In a subscription model, this would have me cancel and uninstall.

In a buy-to-play model, I’ll just keep playing the parts I do like, but will refuse to pay any more.

Every idiot move like this one raises the bar higher for the when I’ll feel inspired to buy from NCSoft again. They’ve already guaranteed I won’t buy Wildstar, and it’s been a year since I paid anything into GW2.

If this was not the last hope I had been holding onto, I might agree with playing still. But I have been looking at other things, I got this game because of promises of epic PvP world battles, and the lack of any effort into this game mode has me just not caring anymore. I was at the point I would be happy with bug fixes and QoL changes after 2 years, I was willing to put aside real updates and new content just for that…And then they are going to charge us for it, I believe this proves to anyone who had any doubt, how disconnected they are from WvW.

What's the point of WvW and Roaming??

For me wvw is a place to get good fights, get better at dueling and fighting multiple players. All about the fights. Others prefer to fight for their server, getting the most points for it, you just have to find what you enjoy the most..

Indeed, as someone who roams allot, nothing better than finding another solo player, fighting it out in a hard fight of back and forth, one of you winning but not finishing off the other player, getting invited to their party and talking BS with each other for the next 3 hours. It is where you find others who understand its a game and about having fun and you meet some awesome people this way.

Running with zergs for PPT can be fun, and running with skill teams even more so. Nothing like breaking into another servers WPed garri and keeping the ring up for an hour and a half while being outnumbered 2 to 1 and have the other servers commander PM your team and suggest changing your guild name to “unkillable”. And we never even got to cap it, but it was so much fun, the other server talked about it all week.

As for leveling, go to ETOM, easy leveling there, find a pin that is doing the rounds and you can level up pretty fast.

Because it wasn’t relevant. Yes a warrior can spec to be faster than a ranger, maybe this one wasn’t though. Just because a ranger outran 2 players doesn’t mean he was hacking, I outran 6 yesterday which included thieves and warriors.

And I have out ran Nike wars before on my guard, sure, had it gone on for a long time, he would have pulled away, but if set up for it, most classes can keep up with just about anyone else….IF speced for it. To the OP, just because these people are specced for covering allot of ground in short order, which many MANY roamers are, for the main reason of getting away from zergs or running down a solo player, does not mean they are hacking.

Really? 1 in 30? You really think 1 out of every 30 people are hacking?

But don’t you understand? The OP can’t lose THAT often, so they HAVE to be hackers.

Engineers don’t constantly blink in and out, downed players don’t keep moving or jumping around like popcorn. Players don’t run at a constant +50% speed. The skills that allow different abilities have limitations. Hackers remove the limits and/or assign abilities to classes that should not have them.

You do know engi’s can stealth right? Let me guess, the player that outran you was a war or thief? I think you might want to familiarize yourself with some of the other professions before saying all roamers are hackers.
We all know there are hackers in game but I rarely run into any while roaming. They are usually snagging keeps and towers or trolling zergs.

Indeed, I have never run into one while roaming, almost always around keeps, seen a few flying across the map, very VERY easy to spot. And zoom hacking is harder and harder to tell, before people call zoom hacking they should try playing the game on an ultrawide monitor, you can see well up onto walls etc just like people can do with screen stretching etc.

…posting comments like “there is no WvW team anymore” are hardly an endearing method that encourages our developers to post more.

Just to clarify, many came to the conclusion that there were no WvW development team anymore it is only because for almost a year we heard nothing from you guys on promises updates , like the borderlands Orbs coming back differently. It’s only natural that we started to believe that you are working on another project when you’ve been silent for such a long time.

Finally, some in the community had the impression that bumping old threads were the only way to make their points across (a 1-year-old thread is an old thread to bump indeed, but 1 year is also a long time to wait) and perhaps they were right, as it seems we wouldn’t even be having this conversation if they had not done so.

All the other questions and posts, without a reply, and the necroing did it. So I think the reason for doing it worked.

I am also very, VERY disappointed in the reply, as it was a reply of anger and annoyance, a reply of “why cant you just shutup!”. It has sealed the deal with me to not buy gems anymore, with a reply of “we can’t talk about what we are working on”, only means we are going to drag you along as far as we can without making promises, because we already promised everything and have nothing left to bait you with.

What a joke, I am SO tired of the “it takes time” line, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! All the updates WvW has had, were either fixes that should have been there after beta, or account for about one living story update worth of work. When we are talking a year for a color change, yeah…You have to understand why people feel there is no WvW dev team, and things have only gotten worse.

To have no contact for such a long time on updates promised months if not years ago and then the only red post we have is a threat? That has got to be the worst way to handle this problem, maybe if we had some more red posts people would not have to necro a thread from a year ago to see one.

Can't play WvW

Do not listen to others here talking about RAM and the like, the problem with your system for zergs is the CPU, the i3 line is a dual core and are lower end, this game if very CPU dependent, and even people with highly overclocked i7s get lag in large zerg clashes.

Lower the WvW character limit down, turn off reflections and shadows, these are three of the biggest frame rate killers.

Too much escaping

I didn’t read through everything, but I will say them being able to run away (except the Warrior) I am 100% ok with, but they don’t run away, they are only resetting the fight, in 99% of the fights I have, when they “run away” they are back less than a minute later and I don’t think this should be the case. I think thieves and mesmers should have that escape ability, but it should come at a high cost that would keep them from using those abilities to get away and then come right back once their CDs are up to try again. Warrior on the other hand is just backward, they should be more like guards who once into a fight are stuck in that fight, out of combat mobility for Warrior I don’t mind however, and quite enjoy it on my warrior and is a breath of fresh air when I swap from my guard.

If they run away, I won, plain and simple….If they reengage 6 times while I am capping a camp (and still can’t win) however, its just annoying and broken game play. Remove the ability some classes have to reengage over and over and I bet all of these “run away” threads stop.

TinkTink, it’s same in reverse. A PvE’er has to map and farm just as a WvW’er has to, that is even across the board regardless on that element alone on the same note with the map completion. You’re not wrong in that at all.

But yes, PvE’er DO have a problem with a small set of maps, maybe due to either populations, or time differences or whatever else is going on. You cannot say every server has a great WvW on them because you’ve known just as much as anyone about guild’s leaving servers, players transferring because lack of other players.

I’ve personally gotten map completion twice but most all of it was sheer luck on being there at the right time, not because I WvW regularly. I’ll agree with you about if they eliminated and separated the two in that manner or if they went about another manner of making it simpler to complete.

Yes, they have to map and farm like WvW players….But they are getting to do what they want, which is PvE while doing that, we have to spend just as much time farming and doing other PvE things to get there, than others have to do in WvW. When I did mine our server was not the best, I also worked nights, so no one was ever on when I was on and is another reason I did almost everything solo other than keeps, even capped a few towers solo for it. I knew no one in PvE because I did nothing but WvW and asking a PvEer to help was a joke, most never answered or could care less it took so many people to open up an area or event to be able to get POI or a SP, that is assuming anyone on at all on the map to help with it, but I did it, lots of waiting, lots of reading on forums or talking to guilds who did events etc to get it done, that is what it is about.

You really don’t get it. WvW isnt ONE person’s skill. Its dependant on an entire server and all the players on that server who are playing. How do you think that tests the skill of a player?

No one wants a freebie – I’m asking for even rotation of colors. Do you think thats REALLY asking too much??

There are many areas in PvE you need more than one person to get to/open up or finish, though it can be done, which is the same for WvW, if you read above I, as well as others have done it all solo 90% of the time. The OP just wants to rush through a part of the game they don’t care for without any trouble, effort or learning anything about that game mode. I got nothing like that for clearing the massive amount of PvE I had to do and clear, again, it is about showing you have done everything and understand it. Also, the OP is not asking about color rotation, it is asking for a free map and nothing more.

Sooo….You want to make it a simple stroll to get map completion? The whole point is to say “I have done everything”, but by doing this, you have not, if thats the case you might as well just ask for map completion be removed from WvW, as a matter of fact, just make it so when you make a new character, once you log in you get instant map completion.

I find it funny PvE players have trouble with the ever so small set of WvW maps, but any of us WvW players who wanted completion or a legendary, had to clear ALL of the PvE content, and have to farm the hell out of PvE to be able to get the needed items for making one. But that’s the point of this, if you cant be bothered to learn all of the game and get good at it (which is not hard), then you don’t deserve map completion or a legendary, simple as that.

Everyone keeps saying something about zerker gear I am not to my knowledge wearing any zerker gear on the toon I have been playing WvW with. But how would I know if it was zerker gear anyway does not actually say zerker. I do not know how to tell if it is or not. From what I am being told I have looked ankitten ot wearing any. Not to sure how to do the builds either I have worked on builds for a while and they all seem to suck so I just do not know what I am doing to get things working right.

Soooo….You don’t even know what gear stats are what, you by your own admission do not understand builds or how to use them…..I think I see why you get killed so often. Research some current builds, from the sounds of it anything will be better than what you are running now, get some runes for speed, don’t bother with others, as from the sounds of it, you don’t want to even try sticking around in the fight and you will just be a rally bot for the other side anyway. Get gear that has healing, toughness and vitality stats in whatever amount you need/want, you are just trying to be tanky and move fast. Use weapon sets that have teleports/speed or other escape abilities, also use traits and utility skills for the same. Best thing would probably be to Google escape or run away build for “whatever class here”, and see whats out there.

This is a competitive game play, running with the zerg IS the way to get it done for people like you. I, like most WvW players, did it all solo. However, don’t expect the zerg to wait, that is NOT what is meant by run with the zerg, no one meant that they will wait for you to finish what they all consider PvE content. What was meant by run with the zerg is to use them as a shield from roamers and following them into keeps/towers for the vistas and POI, as COMs pushing zergs either care about PPT or fights, and waiting for someone to do something like that is just not going to happen. As soon as they get into a keep, go for whatever POI or vista you need, and if it is taking you longer to get them that it is taking them to cap….You are doing it wrong. Also, catching back up is easy, as they are going to be at the next keep/tower getting a wall or door down. If you are in a guild, and I am assuming you are since you said you will not join another guild, I am willing to bet there is someone in it who does WvW who can help you out. Also, get in TS, get in the channel for the BL or EBG that you are on to listen and see where they are going, also asking for help in TS will get you much MUCH further than /s chat, people in WvW tend to ignore it. I have NEVER seen a single player come into TS to ask a WvW player for help, and if they did I would help, but it never happens. I see posts that WvW players cuss like sailors or are really rude or are not social at all, and I would say most PvE people are worse. Every channel I have ever gone into for WvW first thing I always hear is “welcome user!” from at least 2 people, the only time talking is frowned on is when in the middle of a big fight and the COM is giving commands.

Get use to it, get some gear set up, find a good build and by the time you are done, you will probably be 20x better at PvE than before.

I find it funny they can make new finishers all the time, but no bug fixes or CoL changes in forever. I use to buy all the finishers until I saw they were not going to do anything with WvW, so I have no reason to support them, not only do we not get updates, we don’t even get communication on any plans or if anything at all is in the works. So vote with your wallet, stop buying gems.

This, so many times over.

And those apps that can scale well with number of threads/cores are often business class programs, and often times are run on Xeon based computers, where cost of a few hundred (or even a few thousand) bucks doesn’t matter. Take the new G3258, I was going to pick one up from MC for a HTPC, as they had a combo deal for the CPU and Z97 mobo for $100 bucks (but is now OOS), and reviews of the chip are starting to roll out, and since it is unlocked, people seem to be hitting 4.2-4.8GHz pretty easy with it and in games is keeping up and in some cases beating all of the AMD line, all this from a CPU that’s under 60 bucks, or if you live by a MC 100 bucks for the CPU/mobo combo, pretty crazy for those looking at a budget gaming build.

I’d go with the intel because it’s an overall better experience in everything than just games. That certainly is the case for me with the 4770K and the 8350. Don’t waste your time or money on the AMD imo. They have their perks, but the price on some of them is misleading. Poorly advertised or advertised as something they are not.

This post is one of the dumbest things i’ve ever seen. you’re seriously comparing a $180 cpu to a $340 cpu? well kitten for almost twice the price of the 8350 i sure hope the 4770k is better.

when you compare the amd cpus to their equivalent price intel cpus the amds are the clear winner in value for money.

In what regard are they the better value? The Intel compared to the AMD the OP is asking about the Intel wins out everywhere, and big time in gaming, yet costs the same amount. The Intel (4460) beats out even AMDs top of the line $400 CPU and that’s even in AMDs own baby of a game BF4.

Also USB drives are no where near a proper SSD, USB drives have fluffed up I/O numbers and are pure sequential, where for normal use, 4k read/writes matter FAR more, also a USB drive will wear far faster than an SSD, as it has super cheap NAND, that will get slower over time because of no cleanup or TRIM, it has no proper built in controller or RAM and no over provision.

Very VERY doubtful, it was talked about close to launch time, and never heard of again. The best chance we have of an API update would be with an expansion pack, and even then I would not hold my breath.

Seeing how the last ones did no good at all, and all suggestions given were ignored, and the fact WvW has had no real updates with ANYTHING we have asked for….No one cares, as a matter of fact, I have not logged on in some time, few weeks now, all I ever did was WvW and bought gems a few times a week in most cases, however it’s been probably 2 months since I have bought any now. I see it going no where and probably will not be buying anymore gems and see a really good chance I will not be coming back to the game much. I know myself along with others are already on a full blown hunt for another game to jump ship to.

I can not think of a single reason to do so, do you have links to these suggestions from ArenaNet? Or do you remember why? Program files is meant for storage for files, and exes, things that do not change often unless through an update etc, but not under operation or launch, which is what the Application Data directory under users is for, which is where the .dat file for GW2 use to be (not sure if it is still stored there), but it is data the game modifies often. And if your program is behaving properly should work this way, or it would need to ask the user every time it is changing something in the directory, and if it is doing some sort of bypass to execute these types of changes…Well, that’s a no no.

Tips to completing WvW Borderlands Maps?

I am on HoD, so feel free to add me in game, as I only WvW and can help you out. Best tips are find a WvW guild, HoD is VERY much into voice coms, so get on the TS server and listen, go into the WvW channels and find a guild/commander who is going to run that BL you need and when they do be sure to be on and ready. As you are not going to get the points in keeps/towers by yourself, you will need to be with a team to get those, unless we have an awesome day and cap/hold the whole BL, other wise you are going to need to be there at the time of the cap, as caps are hard to hold and often don’t last long in an enemy BL unless the guild is making it a point to WP some of the keeps in the other BL.

All good. Today 64bit processes are becoming more normal, and really there is no reason in this day not to write it as 64bit, even if it doesn’t need the address space, 32bit OSs have tapered off a great deal, only down side is some loss of backwards support with 16bit programs, on the business side of things we have some programs for tools that only have 16bit programs for them and as such keep around an old computer or two for using them, this is pretty common in some industrial fields and plants. But what we need is an API update above all, anything else is only going to be a FPS here or there, but the game is made and sold, and changing the API at this point is not going to happen, if we ever get an expansion like we heard about some time back, that would be the best chance we have for an API update, as it’s a large undertaking already, so why not do an API update for the better? Then again, if it is that big of an update and it is on a new API/engine, I expect it will not be a free expansion, but truth be told I would be fine with that so long as it had some worthy content with it.

You have some facts mixed up. PAE allows the OS to handle up to 64GB, but each individual program that is 32-bits is STILL limited to using 4GB total address space….PERIOD. You cannot compile a 32-bit program to use more memory (That’s a limitation of how an Intel processor works in 32-bit mode).

PAE allows for the OS to utilize additional memory so the use of Swap Files is greatly reduced when multiple processes are active (without PAE, all operations above the main memory size (or 4GB) must be handled by a swap file even if more than 4GB of memory is physically present).

As for 64bit….There are very few cases where a 64bit native client will do anything for performance by it self. And as a matter of fact most 64bit operations have more overhead and in an already CPU starved process, could hurt performance. Also, you seem to be mixing up 32bit OS and 32bit program limitations. A single 32bit program can only use up to 3.96 GB, and this is not a theoretical limit, as 32bit OSs are not limited to 4GB of RAM and can use up to 64GB, as PAE has been around a long time and anyone who has worked with servers will know this, it is just that MS has always artificially limited the RAM limit on its OS, this can be seen even with new versions all 64bit, 7HB was 8GB, 7HP was 16GB and so on, if they wanted to they could have released a 32bit OS with the ability to use 64GB of RAM (and their 32bit server OSs did), however you would still be limited to the LARGE ADDRESS AWARE of the process to be able to use only 4GB, but would not be impacted by the memory overhead of the OS or other background processes.

Fight on cliff side of hills, stealth build thief vs my guard, really annoying fight, he was pretty good as far as thieves go, so good player + troll build = really annoying, he stealthed, and I used banish at random……………………………..Then WXP pops up on my screen, some how I got SUPER lucky that I banished him in stealth and off the cliff.

As someone who builds a lot of siege… I think it is about right… the only thing I would possibly change is to reduce the amount of supply for a treb. slightly but I wouldn’t reduce it by too much.

I can agree with this, somewhat….I think the supply required should be reduced….but on guild siege only, have everything in line with guild catas for supply cost compared to supers. I also think that the cost for supply master is way to high and should be brought down in line with some of the other skill lines.

Why would you not update is the question? Updating to 8.1 can be done at any time, however, after the deadline you will no longer receive security updates on 8, which means 8 is EOL (end of life) and they will only be supporting 8.1 with security updates.

Sooo…You get off one skill before you have to run away because you are almost dead? Saw many times where you were getting bounced around like a pin ball and didn’t even do any dmg, other times you got off one WW before you had to run out while the rest of your team is in the thick of it the whole time. Sure, nice big pretty numbers…but that doesn’t mean anything if you can only do it once and for a short time, over all, everyone else in the team who staid in the fight probably did far more overall dmg, all the other fights in the video you heavily out numbered the other players. So not sure what I am looking at other than burst numbers?

Recently news was made public that they were going to try for new high performance CPU.

There will be updates to the FX line, but it will be on the back burner, the current AMD roadmap shows nothing major new coming out till after 2015, as they will still be with FX chips on the AM3+ socket, with all the major updates and refreshes happening on the APU side of things. We have not even seen anything on the big core server front either, in a time when AMD is still trying to get back to being profitable, trying to take on Intel who already has a large lead for a small market that is highend CPUs, just does not make sense.

You also have to remember a few years back AMD stating that they were no longer going to push for “enthusiast” level CPUs and gaming. This can be seen with the new line of CPUs, which are targeted at more multitasking every day use, and the APU line for multimedia and casual gaming as well as a big push for mobile and consoles, it is just now that we are starting to see this statement catch up and the gap from Intel to AMD will probably only get bigger with the direction AMD has chosen to take.

The single channel RAM is the first bad part, though should not affect gaming that much, however some games (not sure if GW2 is one) are affected by memory throughput. The second choice being the U line CPU, the U line in mobile form factors are ultra low voltage and as such tend to have much lower base clocks than the same M line CPU, many times the i3 M line perform better than some i5 U line, though not by much, but that gives you an idea how it changes things.

I think it should do ok in the game, but the biggest thing holding it back will be the CPU, the QM line being the best choice for laptops and GW2. The GPU should be ok, as it is probably only a 1600 × 900 screen, so not many pixels to push.

Why, is AMD bad? Do you think overclocking could help make the game less laggy in WvW? during PvE/Dungeons i’m fine on high, and during Meta events a tad laggy.

LMFAO! No, not all dude, AMD is great and not overpriced. Dont you worry.

But for your FPS, I myself have a fantastic Computer, but when it comes to zerging in WvW and world bosses, it still pummels my machine. try lowering the character model detail to the lowest, not like you’re going to stand their and look at them anyway ;P and playing on medium/ low settings isn’t all that bad right?

But if you must play on high, an SSD will only add a few FPS, its really only good for lowering loading times. I would recommend looking into the latest AMD 8 Core, GW2 is more CPU intensive that ive found.

Idk what you’re system is looking like, but also try looking for GFX cards with higher memory and processing speed. GW2 isn’t the most optimized game, so you’ll need alot of power :P

AMD makes some great CPUs yes, but not for GW2, Intel will far out do any AMD chip on the market right now, also LOL, SSD will not add ANY FPS, kitten is a storage device and has NOTHING to do with rendering and FPS, the only thing it will do is make switching maps faster.

First, what GPU? We need to know the model, not just the series, OCing will help if it is out of the question to buy a Intel CPU/mobo, OCing will be your best bet for extra FPS.

Shelter is a block, guard is about active play and damage mitigation, shelter, is a block and can be interrupted, and when it is it gets a full cool down, you lose the block AND you don’t get any heal, which by the way is really poor on shelter, shelter and the people who run it, such as myself, run it for the block, and if you put a cast time on that it is no longer a way to mitigate bursts etc as by the time you see the animation of it coming, hit shelter and the cast time to pass, it is to late, to do this to shelter would mean it would need a large boost to the heal.

Decided to keep all the quote. Think outside gaming for the 64 bit OS and more ram- 3dsmax, Lightwave3d, Photoshop..

And motherboards along with other perhipherals do go poof without a seeming reason without known cause at the time, gotta love hidden static discharge due to not being properly grounded when installing anything electrically critical.

Heck even memory sticks can not register if not positioned ‘just so’.

Edit: the memory stick part is only for laptops, never had a problem with them not being seen in desktops.

To suggest hardware etc for programs that were not asked about is just bad advice, he asked about gaming, not about video/image editing or modeling.

They go poof to people who do not understand computer systems, yes, but there is always a reason and blaming it on the HW is not the right choice, in very few cases is this the problem, most of the time it is the builder who does not know what they are doing.

Installing RAM be it a normal DIMM or a SO-DIMM module, they all have retention clips that hold them in place, with a very strong hold, if you are having problems with seating RAM, well I have bad news for you, it is not a HW problem.

There is nothing wrong with that current setup a few upgrades wouldn’t get to a better place:

  1. While 4 GB of memory is ok, 8GB would be better (you need #2 for this to be of any use, however).
  2. You NEED to upgrade to a 64Bit OS. I suggest Windows 7 (why fix what isn’t broken).
  3. 2 SSD (Solid State Disks) of 128GB or 256GB (better) that you can stripe (RAID 0). Put new OS and Program Files on this disk (use your existing HD for data and user files).

Video card is fine (next upgrade if desired).

You should note that GW2 does not run as well on AMD processors as Intel based ones, so if you are looking for a whole new rig to run GW2 go with an Intel i5 (GW2 does not NEED an i7).

8GB is not required for anything really, and there are not many single programs that will use more than that, however multitasking etc it can be helpful. a 64bit OS is not NEEDED, everything will run fine on the 32bit OS. And kitten will not help gaming what-so-ever, it will help with loading screens, but that is it, it will have no impact on fps, the extra money spent on kitten would be better put to getting Intel over AMD.

To the OP, from the start with you trying to upgrade, mobos don’t just go poof without reason, also, keep in mind that just because the board is pin compatible does NOT mean it can support the chip, this has often been a problem with AMD, as they would put out far more powerful chips on the same socket and people think “awesome I can now put a 6 core as an upgrade”, they stick it in because it is pin and BIOS compatible, and then fry the VRMs.

I crafted mine and would not mind at all, mostly because I despised every second I had to spend crafting my way up and crafting the gear, because for some reason they thought all the other power creep they added to WvW was not enough, so lets add in a new armor/weapon set…

Because DX 11 was not available until 2009. DX 10 still required high CPU power as far as I’ve seen. ANet wouldn’t scrap 2 years of work just to change APIs anyway.

The first games available with DX11 was in 2009 and only because we had to wait on Win7 because MS didn’t want to patch Vista for it, but ended up doing that anyway, that however is not the time frame devs have to work with it, as DX11 was shown to the public back in 08, just like DX12, devs already have their hands on this, but it is still new news to us. Also still gives no reason to not be at least DX10 which helped with a good bit of problems with DX9, sure, it does not have the multithreaded support DX11 has, but it is better than nothing.
