This game is heavy on the CPU, however that is indeed an older GPU, but your budget is very low and you will probably need a new PSU along with any upgrade, best bet would be to put money to the side and get a whole new computer. If you are set on upgrading, make sure the PSU can handle a new GPU and get a newer one, as at least it can always be moved over to a new build and would be one last thing to pay for when you buy/build a new one.

What do you mean not working to full capacity? Win7 is Win7, there is no change going from HP to Ulti, you only get a few locked features that 99% of people will never use. DL coretemp to check your CPU temps, you should also DL IBT (Intel Burn Test) and run it for 10 passes and see what your max temps are (and post them). Then DL MSI afterburner to watch temps on the GPU and DL something like Kombuster to load the GPU for atleast 15mins and post max temps from it as well.

Try opening a cmd prompt and type in “sfc /scannow” without the qoutes and see if it finds any errors, if it does let us know and if it finds errors and can’t fix them, follow the path to the log file and post it.

What OS did you come from and I am assuming the one you went to was Win7, did you get all drivers for the laptop from the mfgs website? It sounds like you missed something or installed the OS wrong or had a bad install. What are your CPU/GPU temps? Do you get any errors or hangs? Or does it just sit there workable but just takes 20mins to do something? What programs do you have running? Are you sure it is clean without any infections? Why did you change the OS? Did you do a full clean install, such as reformatting the HDD or did you do a upgrade install? What is your laptops model number?

Since you need ~25g and you have an item worth ~500g, I recommend you do not send it to someone who would sell it for you. Why? This someone must have the 25g and it would require less trust for him to lend you 25g than for you to lend him 500g.

Therefore, If someone offers to sell it for you – asking you to trust him with 500g !- ask yourself why he wouldn’t trust you with 25g? Especially considering that you’ll have 20 times that gold once it’s sold.

Ask your friends in game to lend you some gold or go farm the 25g.

In most cases it is because you are asking for a service, so the person putting out the gold is doing something to try and help, not asking for something. If I had someone I know in game ask me for 25g so they could sell something yes, I would be very iffy about doing it unless I knew them in person, just because I have gold does not mean I (or the person in question) should be careless with it. However if someone wanted me to loan out 25g so they could get 500g and gave me the item for collateral, I would do it. Just like any other loan etc, a bank holds the rights to the house/car etc, in this case the person putting up the gold holds the item till it sells.

Finding someone to just mail you 25g will be much harder than someone selling it for them, which is also why I said someone they REALLY trust.

CPU and GPU temps are good.

Screen doesn’t freeze, monitor loses signal, gets one back, and all I get is a black screen. I can still hear sound (game’s sound effects and anything else my comp was doing (which there usually isn’t anything else when I’m running Gw2).

No BSOD.

The only time it actually RESTARTED was the first time, never did that ever again. Main issue is this black screen with sound going on.

Saying good does us trying to help no good, we need info, and sorry to say we can’t just take your word for it. Please DL IBT and coretemp, run it for 10 passes and post max temps, then DL MSI afterburner and kombustor, run it for at least 10-15mins and post max temps. The black screen is a freeze, in the form of a video driver crash or not responding, which is why you still hear things.

But why would it not happen in other games? What is it about this game that makes the driver not respond/crash on my system?

How a game stresses a system or interacts with a driver are all going to be different, just like some games play great on a new driver, but completely breaks another game. You always start with the basics and work your way up.

ANET Stop avoiding the issue of skill lag!!

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

No problem Colly. The link isn’t related to Skill Delay but it’s just an example of a response from Gameplay Programmer Bill Freist who says he is aware of this issue and making it his priority at the moment.

Again, I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but we don’t have an ETA for a fix at this time.

Ashley that link is totally unrelated to the “Skill Delay” issue, I don’t see anything in that thread from Bill Freist acknowledging the issue of skill delay. Sorry!

Glad you guys are happy

I’m sure we’ll evaluate any additional bugs with multi monitor play and get those addressed in a future update. Until then, addressing the “skill lag” issues are my number 1 priority.

See you guys in-game!

-Bill

………….

Ah didn’t notice that, thanks for highlighting it. Is there any way Bill Freist can update us on any progress made? If any. Players are Very Very frustrated at the moment.

It would be nice to hear about an update, but something on this side of the fence, I doubt we will hear about, there could be many compounding problems that are making what people see as skill lag, I admit suffering from it often as well. It could be a programing glitch or problem of some sort, or it could be a hardware issue, or over loading or even a given hop path people on given ISPs or locations are going through which in the end they have no control over, or it could be a combo of any of these.

Which graphics card should I get?

in Account & Technical Support

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

Well, if I were you I would wait for more cash and pony up for a new powersupply that has more than 1 PCIe connector…then that will open up some more powerful cards worth upgrading to.

Unless this problem with Nvidia is within-the-past-week-recent, then there is no actual problem and its a problem isolated to the user proclaiming such problem. I run an Nvidia card and my siblings run Nvidia cards. All of us don’t have problems running the game and run at the expected range of FPS for our CPU/GPU combo.

Indeed, a PSU with only one PCIe might not even have enough power on the 12v rail to power a good card, though you need to list specs to tell. I also run NV and get around 114FPS in PvE and don’t often go under 60FPS in WvW and when I do it’s due to CPU restrictions and not GPU. Once they allow use of more threads from the game it will do much better for people with 3+ cores. You should also check to see what your GPU is loading at to make sure it’s the bottleneck.

DL IBT and coretemp, also DL and install MSI afterburner and kombustor, run IBT and let do at least 10 passes and post up your max temp from that, then run kombuster and let it run for a good 15mins and post max temps from the GPU.

When the screen goes black, do you get any kind of driver crashed and recovered msgs or prompts etc after it comes back? The black screen is a common symptom of when a video driver crashes. The cause of the crash could be many things though.

The CPU model does not matter to much as you will only be using 3 of those cores and only one thread of the game will be maxing any of them out, which is one of the reasons this game is so bottlenecked by the CPU and why the game responds so well to OCing. The i7 will not do any better than a IB i5 etc etc at the same clocks. Other things such as rez you are gaming at and GPU matter as well. Most events on my system I am running about 60-90fps depending if we are talking WvW or PvE etc. Normal FPS in say LA or other city is about 114.

Ive had the same system setup for well over a year, and the issues have just propped up within the last week. I’ve already ran memtest, but not individually, but TBH, I will not dedicate that much time to it.

Testing one stick at a time is needed, many times RAM will not show bad unless tested as single sticks, same can be said for sets, and all sockets should be tested also. Tests should also be run for 8+ hours, many times marginal RAM will not flip bits until its been heated up well or used for long times.

Hopefully it is not hardware related at all, I don’t have easy access to a credible parts store nearby, so this is simply a pain in the kitten to deal with.

Where do you live? There are many online places to buy PC parts in most countries.

ran that memtest (but not individually) no errors (and the speed difference just downclocks my 1600 to 1066)

It is not about downclocking the RAM, or even being able to match up the timings, it is mismatched RAM, which can cause many problems, just different brands with the same speeds and timings in a system can cause problems, it is always best to use paired sticks.

temps are fine, it was just speedfan giving me false readings.

And they are?

Ram is 2×2 Corsair DDR3 1600 (if i were to run 1 channel, these would be the ones i would use)
-2×4 G.Skill DDR3 1066 (higher capacity, lower frequency/speeds)

Running any 2 sticks is dual channel, not single channel. Which ever you chose to keep, take out the other set and be sure to set the defaults for the RAM you leave in, run the system and see if you still get BSODs.

First thing that stands out is the PSU, Raidmax is know for being crap and causing all kinds of problems, if you have a multimeter I would hook it up to the PSU and check all the rails to see if they are in spec. Next is the RAM, not only are you running odd sized RAM you are also running mismatched speeds and most likely timings and possibly brands. Run memtest86+, when running it you should run a few passes on each stick, that being when you run memtest there should only be ONE stick of RAM in the system. please also post temps from coretemp and afterburner, both should be load temps, use IBT to load the CPU and something like kombustor for the GPU.

What mobo are you using? What are the brands and models of RAM you have in the system? Which model PSU is that? The BSOD is being caused by the NV driver, however the 5xx line is very picky about RAM speeds and types, so the mix match could be the cause (so I would take out the 2×2 set and just leave in the 2×4 for now and see what happens) assuming the card it self is good and no bad RAM or out of spec power. You should also follow the NV guide on doing a clean uninstall and reinstall of the driver just to make sure.

Also, open a cmd window and type in “sfc /scannow” without the quotes and see if it finds any errors, if it does and can’t fix them, follow the info to the log file and upload it.

Size of the stock case will be a problem, so you will want to open it up and break out a measuring tape and check. A 670 or 7950 will be more than enough for GW2 and can be had for under 300, and then still have 100 left which should get you a good brand 550-700W PSU. You might have to get lower powered GPU’s to make them fit in the case, so find that out first. You can get another case for cheap though if you are not picky and just want something to stuff the parts in.

This was a topic that was conversed between me and a friend, and I was looking for other’s input towards the content. Not meant as some “holier than thou” post about what we do in games.

In taking in the content and seeing the back story of the characters involved from Canach, Kiel, the refugees, it just seemed forced to me as into who you were able to side with, or the course of action to take as far as, “Okay i just helped these refugees, now I must keep them in line on this island” IMO there doesn’t seem to be another side to the consortium in-game, other than what we view. It makes it seem as though “okay go along with them”

Because in life, choices are very seldom black and white, and you will almost never agree fully with one side or the other. In many games it’s clear cut, you either want to be good or be bad, but some times the person just had a kittenty set of choices and is doing best with what they have.

I have had a similar, but not identical problem twice in about the past week – my mouse bindings just “go away”. By “go away”, I mean the extra keys on my logitech mouse with two extra buttons (mouse 4 and mouse 5) no longer function. In the UI, they appear to be bound (in my case, to jump and dodge); but they do nothing when pressed.

Workaround is to simply rebind them, and they mysteriously work fine. unfortunately, the first time this happened was right as we were running up to a group event, and the second was as I engaged a champion solo. Really bad timing! They’d been working perfectly for an hour or more prior to both events.

NO idea why they just suddenly lose their assignment while running.

Seems to be a common problem with allot of programmable setups, I have the same problem from time to time with my KB (G110) and mouse (G600), and I have to alt+tab out and back in for it to “remember” the bindings, sucks pretty bad when you are in a fight with someone in WvW and all of a sudden you don’t have a heal skill or dodge.

Anyone can do 6+ world events for anywhere from 6-18 rares in around an hour. Greens for these WvW rank chests are terrible.

Never said anything about rares in chests, just that people QQing about the back log of chests when we could have got nothing, no less than the fact we can level twice as fast now, so getting the back log done will be even easier. We did not get a back log of ranks before it was added, so the fact we get a back log at all I see as a plus, and not something to complain about. If you think the loot is worth it or not, well, that’s something else, I play WvW because I enjoy it and if they see fit to make it so I can make some money at it like PvE, then I sure would not complain.

You ISP might have changed something that changed the hops your connection takes to the gw2 servers that are causing problems, this happens all the time and you will want to do a trace to see where your packets are being lost or where high latency is happening, assuming this is the problem to start with.

Dont upgrade now. Wait till June 2nd when Intel releases haswell. Then get a 4670k (4core 4 thread) or a 4770k (4 core 8 thread) along wiht the appropriate motherboard. I sugest a Gigabyte board as the new Asus ones ‘look’ horrible from a visual standpoint.

Also as has been mentioned, get a K verison for overclockability and make sure ot get a aftermarket cooler that fits Haswell (LGA 1150).

From a visual stand point for some maybe, but performance wise ASUS has been kicking kitten . Though both are very good brands.

Being a tech head myself, are we ever going to see more detail under game performace/optimizations? That is other than the very generic “Continued optimizations”? More detail in this area in updates would be awesome for those of us that care to keep track. I would be happy even if it’s just the basics of what was done. But I am thinking this will never happen.

Anyone know any good gaming mice

I love my Logitech G600. Slanted side buttons so you never lose track of which button is which, and most importantly a “G-shift” function which is essentially just a “cool” way of saying there’s a modifier on the mouse. Switched to it from the Naga about a year back, and never been happier.

The G600 is great and use one myself, and it has never let me down, however, with that said, the G600 and the Naga are in the same tier both being good MMO mice, however the Naga has the plus that you are use to it and wont have to relearn a new mouse or buttons, so unless you were unhappy with the Naga or just looking for something new, I would go with the person that suggested getting another Naga.

Wait, Haswell is right around the corner, no reason to buy a CPU at EOL when you can get a new gen from the next Tock refresh. Also, as others said, the K CPU is best, as you can OC with it, and they are often only $5-10 bucks more than the non-k. The RAM is over kill, unless you are getting a good deal on it or you run programs that make use of lots of bandwidth, stick with some cheaper 1600 speed RAM, 8GB is more than enough for a gaming rig, though 16GB is often times not much more and wont hurt.

The WD black drive you have is more than fast enough and you wont see any gain from the new 1TB drive unless you need the extra space, so what you save from getting cheaper RAM and not getting a new HDD, I would put into a K line CPU from Haswell and a better mobo like the V PRO line, as GW2 loves OC’s. If you don’t want to OC then I would still save the money on those parts and put it to a new GPU or just pocket it. You also said nothing about PSU you have or what new one you will be getting, don’t over look the PSU, it is one of the most important parts in a build.

So yes, when you are skilled, you can win.

Not just yourself, but others, and working together. I was with a commander, we took bay on another BL, they kept on rushing it, and then set up trebs in garri, so we pushed them, about 30-40 back to garri, where even more joined and they had AC’s out the kitten on the walls and cliff, so here our team was, all 12 or so of us, holding off 2-3 times our numbers even though they had siege as well. They would push out and get no further than the stairs, sure, we could not wipe them, but they didn’t go anywhere either. It really shows what tactics and a commander who half way knows what he is doing can do.

Ram Question

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: TinkTinkPOOF.9201

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

Make sure ur getting the correct type of ram. Modern PC’s use DDR3, 1600mhz being the standard. .

There is no standard, 2nd gen corei uses 1066 default and 3rd gen corei use 1333 as default, none as of yet use 1600 as default, and installing in most mobos will default even the 1600 ram to 1066 or 1333, in many cases you will have to change this on your own as it means OCing the bus, 3rd gen corei might read the 1600 right off as the bus supports it without OCing, and most performance boards will read it right also.

Again like the mhz it wont matter much in gaming unless u get really horrible ram like 1333mhz Cl11 or somthing. and then compare it to really good ram like 2400mhz CL10.

Even then you will notice no FPS change, unless you are running off an iGPU which shares system RAM as video RAM, other wise the game files that need to be rendered will be swapped into the VRAM on the GPU long ahead of time and so total bus bandwidth means nothing, if you ran HUGE rez on a GPU with very little onboard VRAM and it had to swap in real time from RAM to VRAM you would have massive lag, today RAM choice means little. Get a good brand that’s 1.5v or under with a default speed at or better than the default bus speed and you are set.

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

First, what is “slow”? Without proper FPS readings we can not tell you if it is normal or not. Laptops are not gaming platforms, and the reason people get them is because the name of the parts are the same and they don’t understand a laptop i7 is NOT the same as a desktop i7, the same can be said for the GPU’s in them as well, they are nothing like and not even in the same league as the desktop counter parts. This game is limited in most cases by CPU speed, and laptop i7s are very low clocked, so that’s going to hurt you right there, also, in the screens it is showing that the iGPU as the video card and not the AMD GPU, granted this is probably not under load and might have power saving on which switched back. So check and make sure under load in the game it is using the AMD GPU and not the iGPU on the intel CPU.

Ram Question

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: TinkTinkPOOF.9201

TinkTinkPOOF.9201

Please link the RAM in question, on the older systems, such as the core2 and older, when OCing the RAM speed was always linked to the bus speed, which had to be changed to up the CPU core clock, as such really high clocked RAM was needed for a stable system when hitting high OC’s on the CPU, with the Corei line of CPU’s this is not the case, as they are OCed using the multi and not the FSB (front side bus).

Do not buy into the marketing of “gaming” RAM, the speed of the RAM will NOT help your FPS, RAM today has very little affect on this. If you are OCing an older system then you need RAM matched to the FSB you will be running, if you are on a newer system or not OCing at all, then all you need is a set of RAM that matches the default bus speeds. So list your setup and we can let you know.

Also, 16GB is over kill for gaming, most games today are still 32bit exe files and will never be able to use that much RAM, most games today will not even use 1-2GB of RAM, so if you are buying the RAM for gaming, don’t bother, it’s a waste, however if you have programs that make use of it or are just getting a good deal on it, it wont hurt anything by any means.

As stated, bank/bag and character slots are always useful.

Bank slots, character slots .. and the pick axe if you like the look. You will maybe never get the value back, but if you like the look its more like a skin .. and of course you never need to carry spare picks again

I have to disagree, I have got the value back many times on my pick, the simple fact of not having to use extra slots to carry more or having to equip a new one every time one breaks is nice and that alone makes it worth it to me. I just can’t wait for perm axe and sickle. Truth be told, they need more things like this in the store and less town clothing.

I disagree. I do think human nature plays a part, but what will have more success:

A. A group of 5 tries to infiltrate a keep
B. A zerg of 75 tries to infiltrate a keep

The answer is obvious, so that does mean mechanics play a large part. Those mechanics force a zerg strategy. You cannot take an entire castle with 5 players.

So, you want to be able to take a keep with a much larger number of players defending it? How does that make any sense? If you are being found out and wiped then your tactics suck, you need to know the zergs rotation and when they are engaged and how long you have to get in and out, I do things like this all the time. However, thinking that a small group should be able to take something even with defenders is just crazy, and I don’t see how you think that this line of thinking makes any sense.

lol…you’re not going to take a supply camp as a solo WvW roamer.

This is news to me.

News to me as well, I guess those 10-20 camps I solo in a night were all a dream, I mean after all, my glass cannon guard with only 15k health could never take a camp.

I think things like this show just how most players are, and how little they understand about WvW and how little skill most have, then come on here and QQ about it. Rather than learning how to do things and learning tactics, they just want it to be dumbed down for them. WvW is not hard at all, the basics are very simple really, and if you are having trouble with zergs 24/7 then you might be in to high a tier server and might want to think about moving down the ladder.

If they are taking up space, find a commander you like/know and donate siege to them. It helps your server and takes a load off of them for having to supply mass amount of siege that they throw down in just a few hours time.

how can one get so many badgers o_O

It’s very easy, run with a well formed group and you will reap them in, I roam for the most part and get a good 80-90 a night, I ran a raid with one guild and on my first outing with them I totaled 328 badges for the night. And if you don’t buy siege with them, it can add up fast, I throw down allot of siege so mine are eaten up pretty fast.

The APU line your computer has is of the mobile market and as such is soldered to the mobo and can not be changed, not that it would matter as that package type has no CPU’s worth upgrading to. It is also a integrated GPU, both the CPU and GPU are very under powered, the minimum requirements for the game is a Core2, the CPU you have is not even in the same league, heck even the much older dual core Pentiums are faster than the E-300. Also keep in mind that minimum requirements are just that, put GW2 into the smallest window you can and turn everything off/low and it will play the game, that does not mean smooth or enjoyable, just that it will play it.

You are not going to be able to do anything to your current system to help this, you need to buy or build a new system.

It sounds more like you are roaming as you are talking about getting down a single player, if that’s the case then the staff is a bad idea, its a zerg weapon, and is only useful when fighting more than one person. I carry one of everything with me, because things change and you might need to swap out, but for my normal running I go with GS and septer/focus and have no trouble keeping with most people, I also run with meditations. And there are by far more/better ways to set up a build or weapons choices that would allow you to keep up with someone or keep them in place than what I use.

Learn the classes you are having problems with, that is the biggest thing I see people have trouble with in this game. They have one class and know nothing or very little about others and they tend to have allot of trouble fighting them, as the saying goes, know your enemy, it is a game changer when you know whats coming or what they can do. You end up knowing how to space your skills and the outs a given class haves and how to be ready for them or spot them coming and to stop it. Thieves are the only ones that this might not help allot with, they do have some of the best outs in the game and have many of them, best thing with them is to let them over commit and pounce when you see it.
