Core range is terrible, so sadly in raids you are forced into the druid healbot role.
Funny thing is a berzerker Tempest can put out similar healing as a berzerker druid and yet the Tempest does SOOOOOOO much more DPS.
Ever heard of Berserker Healer?
Tempest doesn’t beat this role. It’s an illusion because you see more personal DPS rather than 30% party-wide DPS boost. Tempest is just more comfortable. Not more powerful.
Me in my current raiding group have already tried going with 2 viper Rangers.
The truth is, that composition doesn’t really work unless it’s a full hardcore party. Viper Ranger has to sacrifice a lot of personal DPS to get all the boosts for his subsquad.
I can’t really say this in numbers… But from my personal observation – a Berserker Healer (building CAF via traited Healing Spring) that throws GotL 4 times as often and doesn’t need to risk bugged QuickDraw and keeps the raid focused on DPS and not their HP is much more worthwhile.
But, yes. Rangers became that good to become wanted in raids, regardless of the skill level.
In casual groups – we are the ones to babysit and carry them through their mistakes.
In hardcore groups – we are the extreme Raid Damage buffers that no one will ever be able to surpass.
Druid is not necessity for casual or daily content.
It’s been a spec we’ve been asking for for years and I believe people should realize this already. It makes me nauseous seeing how people keep hating stuff they themselves asked for.
We needed AoE CC, We needed team support, we needed damage modifiers, we needed sustain, we needed reliable pets and they gave them to us with 1 specialization!. (I don’t even know how did they manage this, frankly, seemed impossible to me)
The only thing I want now is get my stuff fixed. I don’t really need more stuff since we already received tools to compete in current meta. Top guilds already use 2 druids for a 10-men raid. Not to mention we are are useful even in PvP and even in current meta.
I feel disgusted by lies and developers’ attitude towards Ranger in general. Not the druid. Druid is all I could dream of.
There are some fine suggestions already. So you can technically pick one of them.
I’d go with something like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJATRnUqAVsgtCCmsActgh9gav9AY0/44IeaegD4R4knVCJA-TJBFwAA3foaZAAPBABXCAA
It’s a build that has easy time tagging NPCs with longbow (sigil of fire does the magic of tagging AoE) and has AoE cleave, has extreme burst and has technically permanent swiftness just like all the other suggested builds. You don’t need druid traitline for open world or casual daily fractals.
If you step into Fractals or team content, I’d swap Zephyr for Frost Spirit for sure.
For PvE, PvP or WvW?
There’s literally no logic behind it.
It’s the same with CAF building. They removed the portion of building on targets with full HP aaaaand they made staff #1 and #2 unable to be used without target.
Nothing but user unfriendly design if you ask me.
They took a lot of nice stuff we had and gave it to other classes. That’s all there is to it.
I may be wrong but they might have put a level limit to this feature.
If you are new to this game, there might be a ding that will give you further instructions and naturally the option to swap your pets.
It’s just as Fluffball said. The Paw icon appears if you hover your mouse over the portrait of your pet on the left bottom part of your screen (where pet abilities are).
If there is no such icon yet – you’ll have to level up a bit till this feature unlocks to you.

I’m interested, but Region?
Region matters only for WvW and probably duels in PvP.
PvE is merged, so everyone’s welcome to tag along.I don’t think EU and US can play together.
Oh by region I thought you meant home-server.
That’s a good question. I’m from EU, I guess some others are too.

Where’s the -1 button? Enough downvotes = perma ban from the forums.
Perma sounds too harsh.
But a month or so sounds definitely reasonable. Yup, I’d vote for that option.
These are things you need mechanically for VG:
- 4-5 players capable of entering Green Lightnings (Ranged)
- 2-3 condi DPS
- minimum of 60 000 DPS per raid (6K dps per target) for which you need 25 might
- AoE sustain (1 dedicated healer or 2 berserker healers)
- Boon Strip
- A lot of CC (this means that Condi players would need Shortbows, pets with CC on swap and probably a spike trap)
You don’t need as much toughness for tank as people think.
I can help with the build theorycrafting so there’s 25 might and stuff in both parties.
That also means you only need 2 people with Frost Spotter and only 2 druids per party for the Glyph and global GotL. Having 2 berserker Healers and 1 condi druid + tank druid should do the trick.
Anyways, count me in for the project. Also, have you found out whether the boss refreshes the Stripping boon every 10 seconds or does he refresh it after 10 seconds of last strip?
…
Also, the comment you mentioned about Celestial Avatar being the most rewarding while running 0 heal power with serk stats? You should reacquaint yourself with what’s currently going on within the pvp scene. www.metabattle.com is a good place to start.
You must have missed a lot of discussions. Which? Go reacquaint. And you are mistaken if you think that having traits for a certain weapon makes you a ranged character.
You base your statements on your belief and feelings. Not facts or data.
A wrong time and subject for mocking you chose. And things could have been so different if only you realized that I was talking about design that applies to both PvP and PvE.
Well, at least now I know you go by a site that has been 3/4 year behind in efficiency and has limited knowledge about Ranger in general.
That explains why do you think big and consistent heals help you build CAF faster.
I’m just wondering why would people try so hard to offend others without any reason or even trying to check if whether what they think matches what really happened.
(edited by Tragic Positive.9356)
Yup, the whole thing needs to be redone.
IMHO professions need to be redone, but evidently they are content with doing everything except worry about the #1 aspect of the game.
There are some fine concepts.
… I just wish they wouldn’t flood everything with 2 thousands of CCs, stunbreakers etc.
I remember the times when the game was about who’s gonna strategically strip the stability and put a CC on the target.
Now the game’s like:
Pulse Stability every time you breathe.
Your every ability now stuns an enemy.
Block everything, including nerfs (hey reves)
Of course I am exaggerating but I’m not really that far from truth. Their balance and class design team deserves a lecture about how to please their customers. I haven’t met a single guy who would enjoy the current system.
…
but not when selecting the class originally designed for ranged DPS.
…
Rangers were not originally designed for Ranged Combat in GW2. It was designed as a pet-class.
CAF does not need a fix. It needs a redesign.
There’s way too many gates, it doesn’t feel rewarding enough, we got an ability that is most useful as a zerk for it’s damage spike unusable because you’ll blow up in PvP as zerk and in PvE the damage is stealth-nerfed (which needs a fix).
…
And all in all, you get the best use of CAF with 0 healing power. That kind of design is a sick joke.
There is an obvious explanation.
Tail Swipe is just like Wyverns. It does stuff. If it hits.
Bristle and SmokeScale are reliable pets. That’s why obvious choices.
I got to use wolf again instead of smokescale, though.
Just cause you get carried by an OP pet.
I don’t even have to check for proof.
I’m already 90% sure you are maining a thief and I got baited by dunning-kruuger again.
Shame on me.
Delete Bristleback.
Get real.
No one’s interested that you lost to a mere Ranger pet, too.
You guys should share experiment results on the forums too.
It’s interesting that even now druid basically doesn’t have a “meta” build. Just a bunch of “well, that will work” builds. Compare that to something like herald where the build is totally obvious to someone who doesn’t even play GW2. I guess that puts us in sort of a good spot since we have a lot of options.
I well intend to.
And actually… All PvE meta builds are already shared. It’s not about “this will do”. It’s that it doesn’t matter if we camp CAF as much as possible or maximize our own DPS. The Raid DPS stays basically same at both scenarios. And when it comes to the maximized meta build for extreme speed runs – I already shared that build.
When it comes to PvP, I intend to create a thread about all types that are strong but I’m waiting for gw2skills to get updated. I already created a thread for people to list their suggestions.
Could anyone who by any chance asked for an invite and still haven’t received one shout out one more time for me?
I’ve been a bit busy and I do have a very nasty chill coming down my spine I might have left someone out. But I can’t seem to remember who it was and I think it was someone who didn’t post in here but came to me in-game.
There were some people who I couldn’t yet invite due to having 5 active guilds already, too.
I’m still a rookie when it comes to stuff like this so please, bear with me. Anyone who I left out will be treated a cookie.
@rummy
I’m not a real cheerleader. You know I’m always the straightforward deal holding a calculator in one hand and share button in the other. I’m just doing my best for the class and community I got to like so much.
I haven’t seen you around here so far but I started to like your approach ever since the very beginning.
Logic behind your choices is solid and I have to say … this is something I could go through again.
Enjoy the +1 from me. There’s not a lot of people who got one from me but you well deserved it.
Invites sent.
It’s still a fresh project but I really liked the idea. And it makes it much easier for players to discuss. If it keeps growing it will definitely become a cool place.
We’ve already had a blast testing a build in PvP.
thoughts: Nerf specializations to be on par with old builds.
What would the sell points of the game be, then? I wouldn’t nerf the specs if it were me.
What is this build? It seems good for soloing champs and such.
Literally anything tanky with LB+Staff.
He most probably went with something like this:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJATWnUqAVsitsAOsActglMB7pGkqmYwz0c6QtJZFAOAl480A-TpgYAAw+DVZAA
He used different utilities like Zephyr but yea, this is the main idea.
I believe the is no limit.
I’m not 100% sure but I’d give it a fair 92%.
Just as Wondrouswall said.
Being a tank is mostly about knowing the Raid timers and mechanics and paying attention to them. It’s nice if you can help with that bit of DPS but it’s not a necessity.
Pet’s are not a subject for Boss Aggro. Any pet is fine.
And technically… You bring toughness mostly to make the boss follow you. Not to mitigate damage. If you do everything right you’ll be able to hold your own even without tank stats. In our party the tank has 1600 toughness on VG, 1250 on gorseval and we don’t have a tank on Sebetha.
I believe you’ll mostly have to just keep practicing and realize what works best for you.
I actually think that ideally you don’t even want to both tank and heal at the same time as druid. It takes a huge lot of focus to try and heal people who are on range and constantly on move while remembering every single change of phase 5 seconds before they happen.
I as a druid constantly run around with our Rangeds so I have easier time healing them with CAF #4 and I use my other heals to heal the melee party up since they are immobile at boss.
how long has this been an issue. i freaking love healing trap. what changed?
Ever since they made it a trap. Which are times from before-HoT update.
Spotter
Increases the effectiveness of Fury. Pulse Fury to nearby allies.
Interval: 3seconds, Radius: 600, Effectiveness increase: 50%This actually sounds way too broken to me.
It would be strong for sure.
Re-reading though, I may not have worded it correctly so to clarify:
As long as you, the Ranger, are in combat, the effects of Fury applied by you are increased (30% critical chance) and will be pulsed to nearby allies.Basically just a critical chance boost making Fury a better boon. Not much different than Spotter but it could be further buffed with boon duration stuff.
Spotter is like 8-9%. This would be perma fury + Spotter + 1-2% crit chance.
Spotter is 7,14 precisely.
This would become perma fury + Remorseless every 3 seconds + 2,86% more crit than spotter.
Spotter
Increases the effectiveness of Fury. Pulse Fury to nearby allies.
Interval: 3seconds, Radius: 600, Effectiveness increase: 50%
This actually sounds way too broken to me.
Greetings, fellow rangers!
Today I’m here to promote a project that once our brother in arms, Jasper Deftarrow, proposed.
He created a guild Energizing Wind with a purpose of bringing the community of all skill levels together to help share experience / data / builds / feedback / opinions and most importantly the love for profession.
The guild does not hold any represent or duty requirements and works only as a social network of players with common class to play.
With the recent increasing number of players I’ve been discussing with privately I realized this project is something that might help all of us save a lot of time and bring a bit of casual into all the theory-crafting.

I officially invite all of you to our growing Ranger family
If you want to join the guild, please, leave here your signature so I can send you an invitation. You can also feel free to contact me in-game or send me a PM in case you want to ask anything about the project or anything else
I’m looking forward to seeing you there

Hmmh, if your party doesn’t have these, I’d actually suggest you to play a bit of different build all in all. Our beloved fellow Heimskarl once created a very potential template.
It naturally faded away since a lot of boons of the build have been provided by other classes so they go into overcap. However since your party doesn’t have those – it might be what you are looking for.
I tried to adjust it a little so it would fit your needs. I didn’t really think about armor and semantics. I used Minstrel Armor and Berserker Jewellery. If your only role will be to tank it should do. Since your only goal would be to beat the content, you shall be fine without doing as much DPS. Most of it comes from the pets anyways.
This would provide following stuff for you+4 more people:
permanent 8-11 might
80% protection uptime
Frost Spotter & GotL
On demand Water Field and 70% AoE regen
Help with CC on beak bars
The DPS of the build is roughly 2K less than the Condi one you had but offers much much more potential for successful raid clear in case you just started progressing.
Can you look through it and tell me if you have any questions or found something you’d change?
you know a Rangers methords of evade are not Stop attacking but attack through the attack thats what sword 2>3 dagger 4 is for and a gs is for too , unlike other classes we can attack+evade at the same time thats the whole point of MDG its a Risk each time you attack and it rewards greatly (if a person cant handle that they shouldn’t use MDG ) its not a case of they are bad if they let you stay alive for 4 seconds .
its the fact the ranger Failed to stay alive for 4 seconds with those evades (you dont have to stop attacking to evade on those weapon sets)
You are failing to recognize that MDG competes with Quick Draw. Which means more damage, more evades, more everything and doesn’t encourage suicide bombing.
Depends.
In raids as healer I spam as much with priority 4>3>2>1 for as much GotL distribution.
As a DPS I just enter CAF > press #4 > leave. If I want to help with break bar I use #3, too.
In PvP this varies from build to build. Some are weaker on condi cleanse so #2 is priority. Some are healing power reliant so I focus on #4. Some are zerks where I use #3>#5 synergy with Mad Seeds.
A few Ifs there , for some it may not be worth as that players skill can’t Handle the Pressure and makes that Fatal mistake but for me I’ve had Success in doing so .
its not a matter of its not worth it or it is , its about the play style and if that play can or can not Handle it.
It’s not about playstyle.
It’s that your enemies have to be really bad if they let you live glassy for 4+ seconds.
And if you are forced to evade/retreat/heal/rotate/whatever then you are on defensive and you have 0 use of might.
In raids, it’s not personal but Raid DPS that matters.
So if you sacrifice 1000 personal damage to gain 2000 Raid DPS it’s far more helpful.
You as a tank are not meant to do that much damage since you already blew 1-2 stats anyways. So any personal damage is weaker than buffs for 5 people.
Also, if your group doesn’t have 25 might – you should be running a completely different setup regardless. If it’s just the fury – get Tiger.
Note: You seem to have a strange intel about Sun Spirit, fields and others. It doesn’t matter (not even one bit) who uses which condi as a main source of damage. Once you give them a source of bruning the only thing that matters is their stats. It doesn’t matter if you give a 2000 burning tick to a warrior or to a Ranger. It’s equally 2000 for both of them.
And lastly: Poison field is for weakness and Poison Prijectile finishers… That are inferior to Flame Trap that gives AoE might (your former party problem you had to take WH for) and damage from burning finishers is higher than the one of poison.
I’d personally go for Nature Magic (instead of WS) and traited Spirits (taken both Frost and Sun, drop Empowerment for VG and drop Tides for Gorse).
Also, warhorn in your setup makes literally zero sense.
Swap it for Torch (top DPS) or Dagger (bonus evade).
Apart from that I can see this build work pretty well.
Invigorating Bond
Your pet Heals allies in an area when executing an F2 ability and applies 2 seconds of resistance.
That video shows great way to troll with druid/ranger with no skills required.
extremely boring and easy plays
run -> kite -> heal -> let ur pet do all damage -> run -> kite -> heal
druid healing needs nerf
Another Dunning-Kruger effected player?
How many of them is going to enter Ranger forums?
Don’t they realize ANet announced pets to be a core damage source of the class? Or that this kind of gameplay is only available at WvW or dueling? Or that even this game-style requires skill management… ? Or… I don’t know …
I’ve gone through this way too many times. I’m not gonna bother… This is getting old.
>version Nature poison master (add a average of 20 might every 20seconds)
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQNAT8YnUqANrg1CCerActgBHhy/8PoF6GIWLaOAG6L/keE+HA-TpxBQBGc/BAcEAoXZALcBAcwDAYZHEAA
I find MDG obsolete in current meta. You die in 4 seconds if you are at full health if you are caught off-guard in glass builds.
And since Celestial is no more… well…
I’m not that huge fan of fashion…
… But if manhood is your interest, shouldn’t you ask for 2nd Shortbow? Or do you really think Rainbow Ponies are more manly than flowers and nature?
I did, with great success.
I wanted to share it later when the site’s updated with Amulets and stuff.
Healing Spring is a bug! It was awesome before everyone begged it be turned into a trap. I really think it’s been trashy ever since, won’t touch it with a 10ft pole.
WHO asked for it to be turned into a trap? For sure not me. It was good before, now it’s just awkward and buggy. I don’t think ANYONE wanted the current version of it.
There were plenty of people who wanted it to be a trap. There were various threads asking for it.
I was against it because I knew my policy is “don’t fix what isn’t broken” but a vast portion of the community did want it to become a trap.
People naturally didn’t want the current version but the demand for the change was there. Well, we got what we asked for.
We all know they won’t ever fix this problem. It’s not beneficial to ranger so they can’t nerf us and call it a fix, you know.
@Lugh
Settler amulet no longer Exists. But I can follow your main idea.
@SpellOfIniquity
I was actually thinking of a build like this. But I’ll be frank.
…
I suck at full melee so I naturally lost a lot. How much success did you have without a druid traitline? Since this full evasive game-play focuses on prolonged fights, I found having Druid a must. For both the nuke and CC. What is your insight on this?
Healing Spring is a bug! It was awesome before everyone begged it be turned into a trap. I really think it’s been trashy ever since, won’t touch it with a 10ft pole.
As sad as it is, a lot of PvP builds are forced to pick it due to lack of Condi Cleanse.
… I often felt like shooting myself.
I get immobilized and my only option to cleanse it is to walk away and back because … it’s one of Rangers’ features.
@Stand the Wall
I like your point on the rune Synergy. That’s exactly the stuff I was looking for. Thanks.
@HeadCrowned
Why yes, of course.
I believe Shortbow and Sword belong to the high-priority category. All I was saying is that ANet do not really deserved that sentence. They might slack at bug fixes, they might mot care about ranger as much as the class needs… But they are listening and they proved that to me.
I think that threads like these should be held to make them aware. But if people go around with “Shortbow sucks, company doesn’t care, they are ignorant blah blah” it … really leaves a bad impression. Especially if this is the time when they didn’t deserve it.
Hey guyz, since there’s been a high demand on all kinds of PvP builds lately I thought I’d create a complex topic once gw2skills get updated with new PvP amulets.
Till that time I’d like to ask you all to share your most effective builds you used for PvP in this pre-season. I tried to test everything that came to my mind but I might have left some builds out or you guyz might see “strong” in something different.
Please, feel free to use the following template to help me see the overall opinion easier:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/ – build associated, simply type the amulet manually if it’s not yet available
<Sustained Support> – the role of the build
<Fire Trap in CAF #3 with Mad Seeds synergy> – a quick note what makes the build unique to other builds
(if you already made a thread about the build – link to it is perfectly sufficient)
I’ll look through them and once I gather enough opinions and the site is updated I’ll create a thread to help people look through their options when deciding to go into new PvP meta.
I’m looking forward to seeing your builds everyone and thanks for your suggestions beforehand.
But what you can do is take Torch and use bonfire > Swap to Warhorn and blast #5 > Swap to Axe and engage combat.
Listen to that OP. Except I’d change things around on the LB weapon slot to avoid having to choose axe for off-hand so swaps are simple double-clicks. Could even have a bit of fun with it (like I do) when you’re bored.
Torch > Bonfire > Swap to Warhorn > Call of the Wild > Hunter’s Call > Swap to Longbow before Hunter’s Call hits mid-cast > start S/A+LB rotation or whatever.
Yup, that would be the most efficient way to do it.
Even though it seems impossible theoretically, a weapon can be changed during mid-cast of Hunter’s Call (WH #4) and the ability would still succeed regardless of being “interrupted”.
The effect takes place somewhere in the 1/4 of the cast rather than at the end of it.
You probably wouldn’t want to do that often since it’s a pain in the buns with the timings but I like to try practicing this myself from time to time.
