- 2- Improved damage, healing now changed to AoE pulses, circling around is just clunky
- 4- Improved timing, drastically removed delay, self-cleanse now integrated regardless of direction you are moving/firing, fixed bug
- 5- Healing now set to 100% of original skill damage value (cannot crit)
Mostly these.

For easy tagging and open world there’s this build: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJATWnUqAVsi1rAerAUtgl9Ab52FAObwz18af9pDUueaZU8IPfA-TxhFABDcJAGU9nR2fAgnAwZ6CMS5XVKBJFgNStA-e
I believe you’ll find yourself something you’d enjoy.
I wanted to bump but I needed at least 15 letters.
So bump.
I disagree. There’s a druid build that just destroys condi mes. We can test this match up if you want. My druid vs your condi mes.
Let me know how it goes.
I’m not really into the charts but I’d like to hear the insights on where are the weaknesses and which class had the upper hand. I had some players asking around and … Since I hear a lot of people having problems with mesmers while I didn’t really have any – I want to hear the story from both sides.
Thanks beforehand and good luck sparing you two.
Yeah, I run mercenaries build with Sw/t sometimes. It’s not Meta by a longshot but has really high damage output when healing is not really needed (there is a tempest and engie)
This.
If healing is not needed – Condi build will crush any Power Oriented one in it’s efficiency of pressure.
Well, if you are fine with carrying the burden I’d say Druid’s gonna be one of the best choices you can get, then.
If you mix in Zerker jewellery and Cleric armor (it will end up quite cheap) you should have a nice and safe trip trough raids. Staff + LB are your friends.
The prefixes wouldn’t help anything at all.
Plus, Tiger will never be as TF useful as a canine you mentioned. 5-men fear against 1 crit. Nope, not even in thousand years.
Plus… 10% of 2 seconds is still 2 seconds of lifetime. And you know that.
Without putting a hand in front of my mouth…
“Being druid is a b×tchy duty.”
Full stop.
You either have to do the same rotation as everybody else but have to do it with a clunky mechanic and need to keep everybody’s positioning in mind in order to buff them or …
… simply carry 9 people through raids. I’ve seen the difference of having a druid and not. The progression of bosses came 2 whole phases further with just having a healer.
So yup, the duty can help of course. But you’ll destroy your nervous system eventually. It is a real strain on your mind.
Well, not sure myself…
… I tend to put a pressure or stress on things I want to explain but I already did, but I thought nobody really took it personally since I believe none of us veterans use stress for offense or anything of that matter. Anyways, nice to have you back Justine.
I think it’s pretty much obvious that this now became a matter of people who are still upset about not getting stuff they wanted and people who already use the druid the way it works. There’s not really much to see anymore.
What is the main issue when it comes to Entangle is that you loose your only stun-breaker. It can be worth if you went for a WS stunbreaker build, but you don’t.
Wait why do you lose your stunbreaker if you trait WK? LR is great and traited, SoR is great un traited. And GoE has an outstanding cooldown even untraited.
I actually meant anti-CC (stability) … I’m getting worn out. Sorry about that.
I’m not really sure how it goes in WvW but I guess CC is our counter even there, isn’kitten If you get shut inside DH’s maw you’re dead without stability.
It’s hard to nitpick 1 aspect of the build (the changed build) while talking about it knowing it’s gonna change further. A lot of reasoning would fall of.
What is the main issue when it comes to Entangle is that you loose your only stun-breaker. It can be worth if you went for a WS stunbreaker build, but you don’t. What is the biggest deal with Entangle is that it ignores blocks.
But you don’t really have to go offensive since your kiting idea is based all around slow and stable damage. For that, stability is much more important.
Yeah I know about pet AI, still though, I liked the idea.
And I do have the idea my pets die less often since HoT release. Not sure if that’s because of improved pet-stats or improved AI.
In small scale fights I think they’re ok though. Can’t compare it to any other mmorpg pet AI, it seems you can.
They die less often in HoT because new content’s AoEs are reduced by 90% to minions (pets, illusions,…). When it comes to PvP they die less because you can send SmokeScale to burst-evade all DH traps. Old PvE content has lots of attacks that ignores that change, though (heck, even the new content).
A lot of design in GW2 is outdated.
We just suffer the most because one third of our existence is glued to their outdated pattern. People do not remember this but they didn’t want new spec to be oriented around pets especially because they are unreliable.
Well, our nature cannot be denied so once we got what we wanted people started hating that there’s no synergy with pet.
Pets in small scale fights are now mostly fine because if you heal yourself you heal your pet as well. When next xpac comes – there will be no more druid – and no more pet that lives in small scale fights.
If you ask me – Ranger will not ever be enjoyable unless they get their ß$¤? together and fix what they never did right – the core Ranger.
If they keep fixing the Ranger by never addressing the main issue and trying to give him everything he lacks in 1 spec over and over again – no one will stay to play the class. There’s just so many other games with better designed Beast Masters, Archers, and skirmishers in general.
Somewhere else I saw a topic with many replies where someone added new elite specs for every profession, including ranger. I also think every gap is filled for ranger.
But someone came up with a nice idea imo: beastmaster elite spec, bringing along a mini jungle-book zoo with you, 3 or 4 pets for a period of time, with certain extra buffs. Pretty cool imo.
If there is 1 most unreliable thing we have – it’s pets.
Having 3-4 unreliable pets does not make them any less unreliable.
In other games (WoW from which the idea came from) you can have your pets blink on the target every time they perform an attack (GW2 equivalent would be 750 range; without CD), they can scale better, you can even choose to deal 30% more damage if you sacrifice your pet permanently.
GW2 design is nowhere near that caliber when it comes to AI handling.
(edited by Tragic Positive.9356)
Yes, we all knew Rangers lack any reliable burst.
But I got the chance to win the game through tactics and real-time strategy. I’m not any tournament player anymore.
If you want to play something bursty – roll DH. I just want my Ranger to be reliable, not “stronger”.
dualwield long bow elite spec
You mean we could transform into spiders ?
I sent out invites.
luckyny – you already have 5 guilds (or invites to other guilds, some other fellas had the same issue where they didn’t realize other invitations even with less than 5 guilds). I’ll try again shortly or you can just poke me here or in-game with a mail when you get it done.
I’ll see you guyz there.
MT is not really a bad skill.
What I find the main reason why nobody takes it because … Nobody really needs it. It has a cast time which means you can’t do anything useful during that time and you already have a lot of other means to kite.
Especially the Spider pet which is a solid alternative to Bristle for kiting (bristle’s F2 won’t hit a distant target).
So… While it is a nice thing to have on your skill-bar … it won’t really change any outcome of the fight. Lightning Reflexes, Quickening Zephyr, even Glyph of the Tides would do a better effect of it, especially with the new druid GM trait.
Because they have reliable burst and CC.
And that CC ignores blocks, evades and stuff.
You know, something that they took away from our taunt.
No, it is only the healing to allies. Just test it and you will see (easy to do in pvp with monk rune and aoe regen – without the rune you and your pet will get healed for the same amount, with the rune the regen will tick for 10% more on the pet than on you).
Oh come on … Another long-lasting fail on my side …
Thanks for correcting me.
Kinda unreliable.
I tried to use it in some builds but… You know. I always ended up ditching it.
If you wanted to use it you’d have to make a whole build work around 1 attack which feels way too wrong. It rarely hits without any pre-setting.
But can work against so many DHs playing around, I guess.
Natural Mender and Sigil of Transference increase only the outgoing healing, which means, the healing you do to allies. This doesn’t include the healing to yourself.
Have I been misunderstanding this ?
What I felt like it meant is that all dealing you do is increased (aka outgoing). And the description was to avoid people mistaking it for healing taken from others.
Your outgoing heal is even the one to yourself.
Does deleting the character count?
I don’t really know of any other.
I don’t think that’s quite true. With dedicated use it would probably be quite good. It’s just so wonky for the typical mmo player though.
And still doesn’t solve the CC portion of the problem which is the main one.
My personal favorite is full berserker jewellery(+back) and Cleric Armor with monk runes.
With these stats you can technically go everywhere and you just use different food for different environments. It should be comfortable and rewarding when you play with a friend or in your case – partner.
It can be various things and setups but as Justine said, Healing power at 1000 or more is an overkill. Druid with monk runes and food can have 40% Healing. That’s enough even for a Berserker to play the healer.
These 2 I suggested are technically the easiest to get and quite cheap as well (cleric insignia is rather cheap; Exotic armor is as well).
Disagree with what exactly? You’re focused on the quantity of times ranger got nerfed. I’m focused on the quality. Despite the “numerous” times we got nerfed, we are still definitely the top 3 for 1v1ing. If you care to disagree, I would be more than happy to demonstrate for you. The Druid spec itself is a buff. Shouts being reworked was a massive buff. I even slot one shout in my build now as a thanks to it. Compared to warrior and thief…Druid is amazing. Mesmer got the shaft recently and they’re pretty weak if you know what you’re doing against them: so yes..:my point is valid and still stands. Yours does not. Seems like you’re the one who speaks with his feelings. I’m stating facts and logic that I’ve tested on a daily basis as a dueler myself.
It doesn’t. You are misunderstanding expressions. Nerf for Weak in particular.
Being fine doesn’t mean we aren’t the most nerfed class in the game.
Your point is still not valid since you are bringing up points from a different topic that you opened.
My car can be the most damaged in the street yet still the fastest. That doesn’t exclude each other just like viability and being nerfed.
Which still shows that you just felt like hitting the 1st person coming around for no real reason. And you picked someone’s else signature of all places even without having a logical reason to (feelings, aye?)… Again, shall we stick to the topic, please?
I like the idea of a mordrem sniper or some kind of tracker. I’ll try to find that post Tragic was referring to, at some point… If anyone has it handy I’d love to take a look
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Creative-New-Elite-Spec-Pathfinder/
I don’t really think I’d like transforming Druid.
There was a tracker idea some time ago and it was amazing and well thought out.
If we got that one I’d be much more than happy.
P.S. I’m all up for Dagger main hand.
Pretty sure you’re not qualified to give feedbacks especially with your sig. The most nerfed classes at the moment is warr/thief. Ranger is definitely top 3 in regards to 1 v 1 potential. L2P.
Incorrect.
Ranger is the most nerfed class in the game. For so many years of unreliable and unfriendly design we have been receiving nothing but nerfs unlike other classes.
And being nerfed over and over again while getting no buffs in return is kind of a definition to what the most nerfed means.
Also, I don’t see where’s the harm or how does pasting a joke in signature that has been going around for a long time make someone qualified for giving feedback or not.
If anything, your attitude shows you do stuff according to feelings rather than results. That is a merit to qualify people for advising actually. Just saying. Let’s stick to the topic, shall we ?
Actually I once got 900K healed because of 2 minionmaster Necros in my party.
I … Really don’t know. Sorry.
I thought it did but now you got me curious.
I would like an invite if this is still ongoing. Let me know. Thanks!!!
It is. I sent you an invite. It has been quiet for these past few days but once I have more time I’ll start pushing all of us slackers into stuff.
If nothing else works, I’ll create some fun All-Ranger PvP/Open World/Fractals or smth like that to tie our bonds closer.
@Zenos Osgorma
Yup, this clearly has no purpose to be punished by pet swap.
Why do I say so? Because utility or defensive procs like Clarion Bond or Vigor form NM tree might make sense.
But Poison Master is a pure DPS increase designed. So there’s literally no logic behind having to strip your pet of potential 25 might, Fury and Quickness just to proc that poison.
ANet has been aware of how pets are bad designed (they actually admitted it) but for updates and pre-HoT changes wanted to “improve them”.
So instead of improving them they glued all sorts of stuff on pet swap to work as a stat stick. And it didn’t really work out. This trait just suffers from that ideology.
I am not sure I’m ok with that. Right now I just slam the LR button and I’m out of a bad situation, I don’t want to take half a second to aim it.
Right now if I get feared in a teamfight and I slam LR it forces me right back into the middle of nuclear explosion of current AoE DH Stun Burst action.
I agree with these. These are nice suggestions.
I can’t speak much for PvE. But I disagree with you about PvP. I still think Bristleback is STILL slightly overtuned in regards to damage. They still should transfer some of the damage from BB to the ranger to promote more skillful play. The bristleback’s attack speed got ninja buffed last patch, actually. It used to fire a projectile every 3-4 secs. Now it’s firing every .75 to 1 secs. I don’t know if you guys noticed. I personally use the smokescale/bristleback combo and I’m not seeing a damage loss in pvp at all. Even with “moving” targets. This is coming from a ranger main playing at a very high level of play.
It has always been around 1 second for Bristle’s attack. Nothing has changed.
And I don’t believe it’s “overtuned”. It’s overtuned in ideal 1v1 scenario where bristle is in melee range and enemy without a single dodge or playing blindfolded.
And you can’t persuade me that Bristle will hit moving targets from long range. I’m sorry but you won’t.
Do you know what would transferring damage from Bristle to Ranger mean? 2 years of uselessness for Ranger till they get the numbers right. I’m against the idea.
I’m playing a wait and see game at this point. I suspect that there will be other elite specs (all of which will only go in the 3rd spec spot to keep them exclusive) and I want to see what else they come up with. I love druid (can it be improved, yes, but everything is like that), and I’m curious to see what else they come up with.
Yup, this would be my attitude as well.
But one thing I know for sure. I’m not buying any expansion until they actually do something right for once.
I can’t be the only one still wondering how the hell did we get powers to control cosmos, stars, black holes and what not. Weren’t we rangers before? Whole Ranger fiasco feels like they do not know and still think they know better.
@Heibi
Send a greeting card to those players who reject Rangers into raids. Even elitists are aware that Druid is the highest DPS increase for the raid. That’s why all elitists run 2 druids in their squads. I wouldn’t want to get into raid with people who don’t know about their content. Be glad they rejected you. They have no idea.
We are the best players to carry our newbie raids via healing and we are the best DPS increasing assets to hardcore runs.
I already did an excel equation that calculates Ranger’s DPS according to power and toughness values in DPS setup (pretty accurate on immobile fights). And you know what’s funny? We would have been competitive if our pets scaled from buffs and had their attacks hit (which means 100% uptime). Yes, that’s all there is to it. Nothing else. This is the magic.
Our numbers would have been right if our pets weren’t a stupid anchor to our whole class in every bloody environment.
If we could have slotted BM instead of Druid for DPS increase and we didn’t need NM to have the stupid pet booned and buffed (via frost spirit, glyphs etc) the DPS would match those of DPS classes.
So let’s give our thanks to ANet who knowingly keep ignoring the main issue being mentioned over and over again while keeping it nerfed every single patch.
Have anyone beside me realized that vast majority of nerfs we got were pet-oriented? SmokeScale, Bristle, Go for the Eyes…
What do you mean it doesn’t track targets? Elaborate. If you’re referring to stealth…It’s working as intended. Bristleback and several other ranged pets (which is a projectile) tracks it. So not sure what you’re talking about here.
I’m talking about the fact that pets lose 20-50% DPS on moving targets since they have to stop to perform an attack. Not to mention the old pets and Wyverns that lose around 70%.
Bristleback F2 in particular loses around 20% of his hits on ranged stationary target due to scattering of projectiles. Furthermore, F2 loses around 75% attacks on side-stepping targets at 800+ range.
I’m referring to mechanics that do not allow pets to move and attack simultaneously. Pets always have to choose between these two (unless ranged where it can be body-blocked like VG seekers and technically everything in PvP). And a moving target can get out of range till pets’ animation finishes which will result in an empty attempt to hit – miss.

Depends on content.
For WvW and/or open world – Trailblazer might be better.
For group content like fractals and especially raids – every defensive stat is a negative point for the party (Viper is a clear choice). The longer your target lives the more damage all of you take. Toughness is not going to negate this difference.
Okay, give me guys an good original build then, I just despise metabattle a lot
You despise being useful ?
The thing is we only gave you like 5 different build options. Don’t ask me to create the 6th because you want to be here at the process of creation.
If you want to create a build – create one. The heart of metabattle and “meta” builds is efficiency. And I just despise dragging 9 other people down a lot when I know I can bring more. So I naturally won’t suggest any ineffective build.
If you want to have fun – bring anything if it’s fun to everybody playing with you. If you want results – don’t say you hate the build based on efficiency. Sure, builds on metabattle may be not 100% best, but let’s say 90% of it will be accurate.
I’d say the magic is turning off auto-attack. That’s basically it.
If I had sword / SB and I crossed a Condi Mesmer I lost like 6K HP in 3 seconds till I realized his build. I usually had to let them decap to heal back up and defeat them afterwards.
Just like it was said – dodging a lot and never using unnecessary attacks is the key. Your pet will wear them down eventually and then you just have to pressure them with CC or what not once they drop to around 60% HP.
I’ve been a hardcore archer / beast-master for 10 years, in all game types and real life included. Also was a Hunter Class Leader back in WoW for 2 years. Most of my heart is dedicated to the archetype of lone wolf (with a companion) going through the wilderness. Yup, count me in for enthusiasts.
It’s hard to say what do I want for Ranger now. Most of what I liked about archer classes is already on Ranger in GW2. But in much worse, more clunky, unreliable and bugged pattern.
If anything, I miss kill shot, tranquilizing shot and deterrence from WoW. In case someone hasn’t played WoW yet
Kill-Shot was a certain death sentence but could be used only on players below 20%.
Tranquilizing Shot didn’t deal damage but removed Magic and Enrage effects.
Deterrence made you unable to attack and gave you 100% deflect chance against all attacks and 30% damage reduction (against dots and stuff).
(edited by Tragic Positive.9356)
I picked it technically because that’s something that I can bring and others can’t.
It can be useful, it can be useless …
So it technically breaks down to “what works better for you”.
I play it with my guildies and if they don’t see me coming I become a magician (Celestial Shadow into S&R is a lot of fun).
I’m sticking to what Eurantien and Frosty said.
Oh did they finally fix that? For a while spirits had priority.
I’ll go check it tomorrow again, just to make sure.
Yup, that suggestion sounds way more reasonable.
Even though I’d welcome some other changes and polish on PI in particular. 20% of all condi duration doesn’t sound like a balanced choice for adept trait. Maybe if we limited conditions to bleeding and cripple that might be fine.
I’d personally prefer PI some sort of active effect like a short (2sec?) burst of superspeed and applying 3 seconds of cripple when hitting enemy below 50% HP on a 15 sec CD.
I’d prefer bonus condi duration on passive minors that are desperately asking for a check-up in MM tree anyway.
But that’s just my preference. I wouldn’t mind it being addressed anywhere as long as it feels nice and responsive. I’d easily risk having a trait I never used broken rather than risk having destRoyed a trait I use 50% of my game-time.
Spirit support is fine, you can take frost and sun, even nature, and still have a totally reasonable build. The problem is the spirits put their boons on each other so it becomes insanely wasteful to take more than 2ish. E.g., frost spirit has 5 targets and 3 of them are other spirits… not good.
Taking support is “meta” though.
This goes only if there aren’t enough player targets. Spirit Auras go by boon prioritization. You > Your Party > Other players > Minions
I run Sun and Frost spirit in like every fractal run and I haven’t had a single moment where we all 5 wouldn’t have both auras.
So Spirits will leach auras only if there’s literally no one else to share with.
If fun is the only thing that matters to you – then there’s literally no way for us to help you since you are the only one who knows what’s fun to you. And you never really cared about succeeding the raid.
Which means that you didn’t really have to ask because we do not know the answer. Maybe if you ask a different question – it might be easier to get a reply you search for.
Especially since Raids are the end-game content that is based on results. You won’t beat the raid with power of friendship alone.
To explain it quickly –
You need Skirmishing for Spotter (Quick Draw is a cherry on the top).
And that only leaves you Nature Magic for DPS (perma mighted pet with fury and/or quickness) with roughly +7% DPS from boons. The only choice is Instinctive Reaction if you want Quickened heals if you drop below 50% HP as a safe choice.
There’s literally nothing to be creative about here. And those “metabattle” builds are technically all builds that are viable and bring results. If you want to role-play with axe/axe or Power Shortbow there’s no room for you to get creative, I’m afraid.
If you want to be useful – you’ll eventually end up building the very same build from the scratch as me, UnitedCho and some others who already provided for you to just copy+paste it.
(edited by Tragic Positive.9356)
@Zenos Osgorma
I completely agree that LoYF is in a need of improvement. No doubt about it. But Sharpened Edges is definitely fine as it is.
I actually think that Even marksmanship could get back the condition duration that we got Stealth-Nerfed. That way you could avoid overbuffing conditions for PvE’s current builds but you’d open more options for diversity.
Or maybe Refined Toxins? That trait is in a need of an improvement as well.
There’s technically X other options where to address the issue and I’d give my bets for improving LoYF.
