Melandru runes are nice. Reduces stun & condition duration by 25%. I’m trying out Dolyak now. Not sure the vitality and regen are equivalent, but time will tell.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
Understood. A little situational, given what may be needed in that 1-2 seconds, but Might x3 for three players or more seems worthwhile in any situation.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
About Rune of Dolyak:
Do NOT take them, for any reason. The sixth rune heals for 30 HP per second which is absolutely useless.
About a week late on that. Miss my Melandru already.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
Are you asking if it’s worthwhile to drop your banner and fight, versus holding it and using the abilities? I’m confused by how you worded the question.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
Yeah, but as I said, I’m new at this again, and don’t know what to do, and since my character has such bad gear I need to buy some starting gear!
I put together a guide on ways to gear up (exotics) when you hit level 80. It’s from when the game first started, but they’re all still viable methods.
http://www.constantwarfare.com/2012/10/gw2level80exoticgear.html

As far as how to build and gear, go to the Mists. You can buy different rune sets, gear type amulets and weapon sigils off the vendors. You can test out what you like and don’t like without having to invest any gold. There are even NPCs in the back you can test it out on. I suggest the thief and warrior, they are pretty tough as far as NPCs go. It won’t be an exact science, but it will definitely tell you what you like.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
those runes and sigils are garbage.
use double energy sigils, and melandru runes, or even hoelbrak
I’ve tried several different runes with that build and found Dolyak to be the best (at least for my playstyle). I’ve run Melandru in WvW and switched to Dolyak to test them out just recently. I can tell a difference already. I’m just not a fan of hoelbrak.
The double sigil idea is interesting. Might give that a shot.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
I use this build in sPvP:
http://www.constantwarfare.com/wanderingwarrior3
It’s done me proud so far. I’ve started tinkering with it using banners, and it seems to be even better. The only difference between the builds is banner versus shouts traits and abilities.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
Tea is good. Lemonade is good. Putting them together in any combination does not make them great, unfortunately (to me). I’d prefer all straight damage up front as opposed to some damage up front, and some over time.
Thanks for the try though genie!
www.ConstantWarfare.com
I love the rifle. Almost every build I’ve used has a rifle. I do wish it wasn’t a condition damage weapon, but something about that #3 screams awesome to me. I started out with a rifle/sword+shield DPS build, but with all the trait changes since then it’s probably not optimized. I’ve also used Rifle/Sword + Warhorn
http://www.constantwarfare.com/2013/01/speedbleed.html
And a tanky Rifle/Sword+Shield
http://www.constantwarfare.com/2012/11/squadcommander.html
I might try a Rifle/Great sword build next. I avoided GS at first because it was/is fotm, but I found a GS I really like and it’s growing on me.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
You’re asking for a tank build with damage and utility. You aren’t going to get a build with all three at peak performance, but if you prioritize them then it’ll be easier to suggest a build for you. Any preferences on a secondary weapon, or other considerations would help narrow it down too.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
Those objectives are what I had in mind when I came up with this build. It’s even useful in a group setting. Lately I’ve tested out using a greatsword instead of a rifle. I think you’ll find mobility adds to survivability. Either way, this build gets it done.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
In particular, I’d like to know how to deal with two weapon sets in PvP. Should I have one for ranged combat, and one for melee? I keep finding myself an melee situations (which is why I decided to roll a pure melee class after lots of testing). Are there better weapons for AoE or conditions, then for performing straight single-target DPS?
I’d suggest a ranged weapon, or a weapon that gives you some mobility (warhorn/greatsword). Greatsword has some good AoE and mobility. I’ve switched to that over a rifle in WvW. sPvP is smaller, so I’d imagine ranged is slightly less important.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
http://www.constantwarfare.com/2012/11/squadcommander.html
Basically a tanky shout/heal build. Lots of utility.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
I use this build: http://www.constantwarfare.com/2012/11/squadcommander.html
It’s tanky as well. Not so much on the DPS, but lots of utility. You could probably adjust the trinkets if you wanted more DPS. It uses the temple gear too.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
For spending my Karma, is getting the Heavy Aurora set a good choice or no?
That’s what I have, with cleric trinkets.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
SPvP gear is only for sPvP.
Also, WvW allows you to play about any spec you want, unless you want to roam solo or something. If you stick with the herd mostly, you’ll be fine in whatever. I’ve been using a sword/shield+rifle build, but you can easily swap for mace/shield plus GS. I’ve been running it with the GS instead of rifle today and it seems fine. I use the standard pvt gear, as it’s a tanky shout/heal build.
http://www.constantwarfare.com/2012/11/squadcommander.html
Gear is largely up to your play style, so I’d suggest going into the Mists to experiment with builds and gear before you commit gold. I’ll also second the tip for food, it’s cheap and helpful.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
Bow looks absurd on a warrior to me. Makes me laugh. Just can’t bring myself to use one no matter how OP it is.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
Switch weapons?
And yes, I run sword-shield/greatsword for roaming. My advice is to go full power, no condition dmg. Final trust is so tasty. Build up adre, flurry insta switch for 100b, whirlwind, rush, sword leap, new flurry and final trust. Only thing surviving that is a tanky guardian and they’ll have to blow everything for it.
ps.: thiefs will absolutely hate you, they get wrecked by this, absolutely wrecked. I killed 49 jade sea thiefs in eb today in less than an hour :p oh the rage.
I’ve been trying GS instead of rifle. I really like the rifle, and I hate going fotm stuff, but it ha been fun. I’m also trying out a Naga for the first time, so it has been a challenge so far. I’m definitely not owning thieves yet…
www.ConstantWarfare.com
http://www.constantwarfare.com/2012/11/squadcommander.html
I’ve used this build forever. Great utility for groups, and lots of survivability.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
Having no ranged in WvW always bothers me. How do you/anyone else contribute to a keep defense with pure melee? Hit-and-run or some other clever tactic?
www.ConstantWarfare.com
I used to use your build in the old days.
That’s what got me started to using the signets when it wasn’t popular.
I leveled up with signets! Lazy, but fun. Great for beginners. The more you don’t use them, the more benefits you get.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
This is the build I use on my warrior. I came up with it back when I first bought my commander tag. It has good survivability for yourself, and plenty of utility for your allies. It is still the most fun warrior build I’ve used to this day.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
I’ve used a shoit /heal build for quite a while now. It has CC, heals, buffs, cleanses, and so on. I enjoy the survivability and utility of it the most.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
I really enjoy rifle & sword/shield builds too. The one I’ve had the most success with is my Squad Commander build. It works in PvE, WvW, and sPvP.
http://www.constantwarfare.com/2012/11/squadcommander.html
It’s more defensive than offensive. I’m not sure what you consider decent damage, but this build has a lot of utility too.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
This is my Tank Warrior build:
http://www.constantwarfare.com/2012/11/squadcommander.html
Not sure how it does in PvE, but it’s PvE. How hard can it be? I found it great in WvW. I’ll be testing it in sPvP soon. Feel free to tinker with it to your liking.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
I see. Thanks for the answers. Is there a way to avoid custom servers with team stacking?
Also, did you play SWTOR on Jung Ma server? Your name looks familiar.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
It got nerfed some a while back, but getting big crits is still doable. Just max out your +crit damage bonuses where possible. You’re gonna be a glass cannon though. I hit around 7k in sPvP pretty often with just traits and runes. The new skill splitting may actually improve things depending on your spec.

Try a ranged weapon. I like to use a rifle and sword/shield personally. You can do sword/warhorn if you want to move around a little faster. Having a ranged weapons let you be usefull when defending an objective, and keeps you from being squashed immediately as melee bait. Here’s a build I used for a while while almost exclusively doing WvW. The update changed things a little, but you can tweak it to your own tastes.
http://www.constantwarfare.com/2012/12/gw2-quickening-rifle-warrior-build.html
You’re better off in groups/zergs. Running solo as a warrior is rough in WvW.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
The new queue system has me confused. The options along the side are Standard, Favorites, New Filter, etc. The ‘Play Now’ button says i’ll be matched with people at the same PvP rank. Does Play Now span all the types? Just the one I have selected? How do I know I am playing just standard, old-fashioned maps?
Usually I win 50% of the time or more, but I literally spent 45 minutes of the last hour getting farmed at the spawn door in 4 matches on one server. Not sure if it’s tremendously bad luck or myself and 7 people accidentally landed in some elite server.
Any explanation would be appreciated.

This is what I use for my warrior tank shout build:
http://www.constantwarfare.com/2012/11/squadcommander.html
It’s a support build, but works well for me. I haven’t tried it with the new changes yet though, but I have a feeling it’s only going to get better with little to no adjustment.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
I use rifle builds almost exclusively. Always coming up with new ones too. I put all the ones I have used so far here:
http://www.constantwarfare.com/p/guild-wars-2-warrior-builds
Would love some feedback too if you’re up to it. I’ve had better success with the more recent ones.

I did my sPvP daily, but did not get a laurel with it. I have not done my PvE daily yet either. Anyone else having the problem?

I use the Sony Wireless Headset. Good with PC and PS3. No batteries to replace, or cord to get in the way. Love it.

Yeah the Wintersday decor is really top notch. It’s the best I have seen in any game.

Condition removal aside, warriors can still be a great utility class. Their physical slot skills involve lots of stunning, knocking back, etc. Crowd control, essentially. It just requires a specific intent to dedicate your build to being a support. Trying to be a DPS heavy hitter and great in a support role just isn’t going to happen. That’s called balance, not bad mechanics. Being standard DPS, but great at keeping your team in the fight, is more realistic.
I do agree banners are terrible. Putting down, picking up, moving around, staying in range – forgetaboutit. Great for contained fights so you can set it and forget it maybe, but in sPvP or WvW, no thanks. Shouts are my preferred warrior support build right now. PvE I could see where they might be more useful.
On condition removal, there have been a ton of ways in this thread listed to overcome that hurdle. If you are THAT paranoid about condition damage, use them all. I can also think of a few more. Just don’t try it with banners.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
…Are the two regen heals from the signet and adrenal health enough to sustain you in longer high pressure combat scenarios? I’m just curious as to the details of your experience.
I actually found this double regen effect is better too for the warrior sword and shield build I use. While I was testing it out, for some reason my heal was always on cooldown when I needed it. When I tested the double regen, there were less times when I actually needed it. At that point I could break away easily enough and use the signet heal. While the signet was on cooldown, the trait regen was still going.
Not to mention it’s completely passive, which lets you focus more on what else is going on at the moment.

Condition damage isn’t all that necessary if the sole objective is to survive. Presenting a target nobody can take down, drawing a small group into the jaws of an incoming zerg, or anything like that, all in the name of generally frustrating your enemies is a good tactic.
The sword & shield build I run with is a kind of support build. You can read about here if you’re interested. While my main objective is survival, my secondary objective is to help out my team as much as possible. Without seeing your build, it’s hard to give you any tips other than make sure you keep a ranged weapon (rifle/bow) as your secondary. Defending a fortification is much easier inside the walls.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
There was a bug like this in SWTOR for a while. If I died and clicked release too quickly sometimes, my smuggler would get ‘stuck’. I couldn’t move, and was stuck in the respawn area. I’m not sure if it was by chance or not, but the majority of the time it happened was within the last 2 minutes of the game. This means that I would get kicked before the game finished, and therefore get 0 rewards for the match. It took them a couple patches to fix it. Very annoying.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
I would like to reiterate the point of this thread: Am I doing enough damage? How much damage should a warrior be doing?
As far as your damage, the first thing you need to remember is your friend (sounds like) has a kill shot build. He might be doing 15k, but your damage is more sustained. How long does it take him to build up to that 15k shot? How much survivability does he have? His 15k shots aren’t much good from downed state. Meanwhile your damage is steadily ticking away. If you can find a way to see how much damage you both do over 30 seconds for example, then I think you have a clearer comparison.
xD
I guess the point of my posts is that I think you’re losing out on a bit of damage by overstatting precision and not having enough power in your build.
I agree with Shadow though about power. I’m about 25% below you in crit because I stack power. My bleeds tick for ~100 damage, and with Fury i’m easily over 70% in crit chance. I might crit 10% less often, but my crits hit harder, as well as my other attacks.
You just have to remember no matter what, your damage is done over time. Not in bursts.

Population issues and conspiracy theories aside, this matchup has been the closest and most fun in a long time. Great fights, a close enough matchup to the point where people are getting upset on the forums, and an opportunity to learn from enemy successes and failures. I’ve had a great week and a half with YB and TC, thank you for being great opponents.
These past three weeks have been the most balanced and fun since launch for me. We’ve seen Yaks Bend all three weeks, and Fort Aspenwood twice. I hope this is the kind of match-up we’re looking at in the future. Two weeks is plenty of time to make it anyone’s game, even halfway through.
Good fights and good fun to our opponents this/these week(s)!

Our guild is mostly 30+ age-wise, and we have some altaholics as well. We’re big WvWers mainly here, though we do have some that like to run dungeons. (I like to think they’ll grow out of it eventually though) We’re glad to run WvW with lowbies, as we have a few players that don’t have an 80 yet either. Our members log in during all times of the day and night – there’s generally someone on all the time.
I’m not sure your feelings on WvW, but if you don’t mind getting on voice chat (Mumble) and working with a team, then whisper me in game. I’ll answer any specific questions you might have, or we can head into WvW or a dungeon for you to see for yourself.
P.S. We are on Tarnished Coast too!

What kind of videos are you looking for? I’ve got a YouTube channel where I have started posting videos about my warrior. Mostly it’s going to be WvW stuff and builds, maybe a little sPvP. I’m not a big PvE fan though, so likely no dungeons.
www.ConstantWarfare.com
It really depends on what you want out of your build. PvP, PvE, WvW, DPS, support, weapons, etc. Do you have a link to some kind of build calculator? If not, try this one:

I put together a support build that utilizes buffs and healing. Nicknamed it the ‘Squad Commander’ build after the Squad Leader build from Star Wars: Galaxies. I think it works pretty well.
