And we can agree to disagree, but you will still have to take into account that players exist with this mindset: It is a vanity item in the sense that it does not make you better in the game when it comes to killing anything. It is however NOT a vanity item in the sense that a minipet is part of a collection. We can skip the minis, and leave a gaping hole in our collection forever. If we had the time to rustle up 65$ – I’d be ok with it. If we knew they’d return next year – I’d be okay with it. If they increased the droprate – I’d be ok with it! If they were tradeable – I’d be ok with it! If the mystery boxes actually dropped, as said in patch notes – I’d be ok with it! But as it is, players are forced to hand over these 65$ in order to keep their beloved collection complete. If that sounds like vanity to you, the whole game is a vanity item.

Your meaning with vanity is, i assume, that it is not useful. But it is, with the right mindset. It is useful in the way that it is your token of "I managed to do X, therefore I have Y. But next to no one wants to say I managed to spend 65$, therefore I have the minipets. Don’t get me wrong here, I can live with minipets only available through the gemstore. But 65$! That’s more than the deluxe edition of the game cost me!

And I do more than collect minipets. It is still a big part of my game. On the content, what is the big difference exactly? It is seasonal content. You can expect most of it to return next December. So it is permanently accesible in December, just as well as Mad King probably will be permanent part of October.

But basically, I’m okay with the RNG, but I believe all RNG needs to have a certain threshold, a place where a line is drawn where you will get what you want. For example, last night I suggested that we make 75 ‘X transformation tonic’ able to be crafted in to an ‘Endless X Transformation Tonic’, this would basically put a threshold on crafting the endless transformation tonics. You get three temporary tonics for each attempt, which would mean that if you fail 25 times you can just craft it outright with the junk it has given you, but if you get it sooner than that then that’s great too.

You sir at least have brains! Credit for that, and excellent suggestion. This is the stuff that makes things like RNG bearable. I’d still not be a fan of it – But I wouldn’t complain either. Call it common ground. The problem about RNG is.. Well, take the minipets again, i could potentially buy 10 chests for 800 gems and get all the minis including Foostivoo. But I could also spend 200$ and still not have the 3 other minipets. It is highly unlikely – But it is still a scenario. Putting a worst case scenario on things like the endless tonic helps in the way that we KNOW it can’t get worse than 25 attempts. It’s kitten expensive, but still. We know we don’t have to try 26 times.

Well, define important. It’s what i like to do. I don’t stress over it, I gather them one at a time, and I’m happy everytime I get a new one. What I do stress about is when I’m forced to pay up 65$ all of a sudden to maintain my complete special mini collection. If they would return each wintersday, I wouldn’t care much. I’d get them next year.

Wiki drop rates indicate nothing, for what it is worth, and there was an official response that the 200cogs we got was for bugfix. (meaning you can’t make a third mini)

I agree on what you say, and i don’t expect a fix. I just hope that enough negative feedback will make them design it better next time

We are all well aware of that. We know kitten well it’s chance. We don’t like it. But if we want to continue to collect all minis, then yes, we are forced. We are forced in that is is our playstyle. If a weapon with 9001 to all stats was released in the gemstore, and mobs were buffed after that, you would probably feel forced as well. You have to understand it is not a vanity item for all players. It is a playstyle – And not through spending over 50$ in the gemstore.

Since when is any marketing at all a money grab? It’s blatantly advertised, there is no bait and switch or snake-oil being sold here. Anybody can know what these presents drop and how to get them. You can get all the minis, you just have to pay a few dollars or a few gold for it.

And as I’ve said before, you cannot be a completionist and a cheapskate, they are opposites. If you want it all you better expect to pay for it. Being a completionist is incredibly expensive in any real-life hobby, and is always somewhat dependent on random luck, why would anyone expect anything different in a digital hobby?

But you don’t think 65$ on average (Not even including Foostivoo) is a bit over the top?

I’m glad you enjoy the game simply by visuals, really. These kind of people intrigue me. But personally i like collecting. That is what I enjoy. I put all my ingame money into collecting. The Karka event made it hard to get the 3 minis. Very hard. But now it is impossible. Even with all my time going into it. I do not feel entitled to these minipets. But i DO feel that if i work for it all christmas, i can earn them. But I can’t. Not without spending at least 50$, which is a bit much to ask for some minipets. I’d gladly give them say 15-20$ Is that being a cheapass, wanting to pay about 1/3rd of what i paid for the entire game, to get some random undersized monsters?

As one of the persons who play this game a LOT but don’t want to play the market (That’s work for me, not gaming), I’m still in the struggle area. I support any of these options, with the note that #3 should be announced at the beginning of the event like “We’re releasing new minis, they will only be available every Wintersday.” This actually might also be the common ground for the players who are sick and tired of RNG – Cause even if we don’t get lucky, we still have until next year to farm up some gold and try again, instead of this stressed kitten.

There’s 3 toy mini pets left, (1050 gems total), 3 minipets from the mystery box which is dropped by random PLUS an additional minipet either dropped with extreme luck or created from the latter 3 minis, meaning you will have to get at least 6 minipets from the mystery boxes to get. By random chance.

That translates into a total of at least 3.450 gems (And this is a lucky outcome), assuming we bought 10 chests 3 times and paid for the first minis. Let’s for arguments sake also say we had enough in game cash to convert to 650 gems. Now we have 2.800 gems left that we need to buy. That is already 35$, over triple the cost of his statement. And once again, this example was incredibly generous. The very best recorded data nets 5 minis in 22 chests, while the worst is 17 chests and no minipets. (Wiki data). So at LEAST 30 chests would be required, unless you are ridiculously lucky. 35$ is best case outcome, it may very well be more like 50$ in most cases. How much was WoW a month again?

One note though. In your original statement you forget at least one type of players, namely collectors. I know, if I wasn’t a collector you were completely right. But I am, and I do want every single minipet in the game – That includes the sport of being in every single event. I am ready to spend time (main factor of course. It’s a game, meant to waste time) and even some money on them. But when you come to a point where either the time it takes to get the minipets by playing is greater than the event (By playing 5+ hours a day, I know, I have no life), or the amount of money required to get them gets greater than what you actually paid for the game – Well there is a problem, because it simply ruins one type of playing. I’m not saying everything should be easily obtainable, but it should at least be possible.

Edit: For clarity; So yes we could “let go of this one” – But then our collections would have a big gaping hole. So we’re hoping for ninja changes instead, although unlikely.

Not enough unfortunately. I have been basing hours of Jumping Puzzle guide on that 1 Foostivoo along with other players. If there’s a slight chance it is a mistake, I’d hate not to at least try to confirm it is for real. I have asked everyone in-game that i have seen with a Foostivoo how they got it, but I have still to find anyone who got it as drop.

Please, I’m looking for an official answer. According to Wiki the minipet drops, but only 1 observation in 13.000 opened presents.

Can you, ArenaNet please confirm or deny if Foostivoo is a drop off the Giant gifts?

Samme issue., mainly the trading section will not load. Relogging entirely fixes it.

4 completions, 1 loot today. Farmed it 100+ times yesterday, no issues except loading the reward area multiple times more often than not because you spawn on the portal

Ditto. After trying several times i conclude that where it before just reloaded the area, it reloads.. Well LA. It occurs when you have a bad spawn (Which happens more often than not), meaning you stand on top of the portal, causing you to load the area again. Except it now ports to LA instead. The amount of bugs in this game.. Sigh.

Also when i was actually able to complete the JP, loading screens will repeat itself because I’m placed in the “gate”. A quick dodge roll can sometimes save me before loading the area again. But seriously, fix the porting to LA upon completion please.
