I can empathize with u, OP. Some mobs don’t even provide challenge in a fair way, they’re artificially difficult, either dealing obscene damage regardless of armor + vitality, or constantly bombarding u with CC.

Frogs deal an insane amount of spike damage (out of line with the rest of the HoT mobs), they do need some downtuning. And shrooms are ridiculous with the amount of stuns they do, they’re more trouble than fun. Rolling devils is another foe that I have learned to avoid, they outpace most players, and could instant down u if you get caught up in their crossfire (and rolling devils often wander in pairs or more), too much risk for non-existent reward.

Other than that, I’m okay with the rest of the mobs. Smokescale have low hp, without their smoke field, they go down very swiftly, not an issue if you stay out of their smoke field.

THIS. is exacly why anet needs to add the Bladed chest armor to the vendor, as it is now it is LITTERALY impossible to get the meta to t4

ive been trying for the last couple of days now and only once have i come CLOSE to getting it to t4.

This so much, the only way to get to T4 is to have numerous small groups defending the rally points all over the map. But as we have known, players tend to zerg together, and most of the rally points are not very accessible. Most instances that I have been to, wouldn’t even cross the T2 mark (for the night missions). Bladed Coat is literally out of reach.

I did more playtesting; yes it’s possible to achieve 6K burn dmg with traps but that only works on very very specific scenarios, namely, u need a horde of enemies walking into your traps.. On small groups of enemies or single target, DH condi burn dmg is lackluster and LB is an absolute joke at applying burn stacks, symbol of energy is way too static to be effective. If you’re planning to play DH with LB as your main weapon, go direct damage, srsly.

@ Asmdal

I disagree, condi DH is mediocre. Condi Meditation Guards have a higher dmg potential, it’s far easier to burst a 5k / 6k burn stack with a mediation guard than on a condi DH; even with my ball of traps, my DH burn stack would rarely hit for more than 3k dmg. Condi DH is still viable though but its’ burn dmg is a downgrade from regular burn builds.

If you’re using Hammer, you might want to consider using symbol builds; Hammer autoattack chain casts symbol of protection. Zeal has a couple of traits that enhances symbols dmg output. The Honor traitline has the “writ of persistence” trait which allows Hammer users to maintain 100% protection uptime. So focus primarily on Zeal and Honor.

Use the “look for group” feature to switch to a more populated instance. I have completed the Auric Basin meta event twice today, it’s definitely not deserted. Out of the 4 new maps, Auric Basin and Dragon Stand are the more popular ones; tangled depths is relatively quiet though, I have hardly seen any groups posting LFG for that map, while it’s a beautiful map, its’ layout is way too confusing (nunoch wallows is a necessity on that map).

Sniper isn’t all that bad, at least u get a huge "marked’ icon to warn u of the impending strike and their attacks have a cast-time, allowing u time to react; shadowleaper and shadow dancer have none of that, their attacks are way harder to predict and have very little wind-up time. I really hope Anet takes a close hard look at shadowleaper and shadowdancer, I have learned to deal with snipers but shadowdancer/leapers are just aggravating.

Any good carrion-burning LB+X build out there?

I really enjoy playing carrion-knight burning guard in PvE right now but I still farm the points to unlock the Dragonhunter…

Is a Burn DH a viable thing? (ofc I know EVERYTHING is viable in outdoor but is it on-par with a non-DH burn guardian?)

Thank you for your advice!

It’s still viable but not quite on par with a regular burn guardian.

For a DH burn guard, Radiance is still compulsory, so that leaves u with only one of the following options: pick virtue traitline to maintain ur burn dmg but that leaves u with little defensive capabilities. Or pick valor or honor for better survivability, but that means giving up on the supreme justice + permeating wrath traits. :/

So yes, DH is undoubtedly, a sub-par option for condi builds.

Try using DH with melee wpns as ur main source of dps, with traps to augment ur dmg output. As Darien had stated, traps synergise incredibly well with GS; I’m personally using sword/torch (condi build), and traps works wonders with sword as well; teleport with Sword#2 skill → lay down a bunch of traps → break defiance bar → proceed to dps.

U might want to gear up on soldier + knight gear though, HoT is brutal to zerker builds, moreso if you’re playing melee.

It’s so people would be forced to play the horrible new content.

GW2’s core game was a fun, casual friendly experience.

Were soloing your story quests was simple, with plenty of WPs and exp to get to cap.

HOT thou? It has mob density that all but forces a group just to get to the few and far inbetween WPs, HPs that spawns champions require masteries or are guarded by groups of vets, events that spawn all over the place with enough mobs to eat you alive in seconds.

The mobs in HOT exist in 3 forms: does large area damage, knocks downs, does large aoe damage and knocks down.

I tackled the new content with Cavalier armor on, I’ll try Sentinel next because Cavalier is simply not enough to survive in HOT, but then again I get the feeling HOT is not meant to be soloable since not only do the mobs hit hard enough to kill you very quickly they also have plenty of hit points and vets are plentiful.

Are mobs currently over tuned? Should I stop trying to solo my story line?

All in all HOT feels like an entirely different game from GW2, it’s more like a hardcore “die at the 1st mistake” kind of game then the casual friendly game I liked…

Very disappointed in the new content, I’ll do it once to know the story then never again.

Tip from a seasoned fractal player. Get better. Its not about armor its about knowing what to dodge and the encounter mechanics. Sorry you can’t breeze through it the first week with a greatsword and zerker armor lol. Anet said be prepared to try new armor, utility skills and change traits often. Its actually not kittence you learn.

“Git gud” is not a tip, it’s a veiled insult.

I don’t run zerk, never have. My problem is not a lack of skill, my problem is that a casual game has stopped being so in the span of a single expansion.

It is a good tip tho, since many of your complaints is a sign of low skill not an insult, but I feel you might be too sensitive so you take it as an insult anyways so…
Mesmer in assassin myself, no problems except some hero points.

U could solo champs in that 4 mins time frame? Most of the hero points in Aurin Basin are not definitely solo-able.

The exp grind isn’t all that bad since it’s account-shared, it is an issue when events isn’t scaling properly. Was doing the sapling event on Aurin Basin, and that event is an absolute slog with just 3 person. HoT events are indeed challenging but not in a fun way, it’s more of a tedium. Low player count + upscaled events / mobs + mediocre rewards = map longevity not looking gd.

As for Hero points, yup, it’s universally agreed that the current system is absolute bonkers. Will there even be a healthy HoT community to sustain Hero Point farming in the near future? I have my doubts.

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Unknown.3976

5/10. Exploration is fun. Map is a visual feast. Gliding is awesome.

Everything else underwhelms. Combat is tedious, if you’re not playing a ranged/ pet/minion build, you’re in for a very rough/unfun ride, some mobs are way over-tuned, dealing an incredulous amount of spike damage to a 3000 armor character. HoT offers a cheap form of challenge that encourages grouping or zerging. And the events are not even rewarding; for the vast majority of the time, you are rewarded caches that dropped fine/masterwork gear. “Challenging” content + mediocre rewards isn’t good for map longevity.

And don’t even get me started on the hero point issue.

Don't understand all these spec complaints...

It cost 400 hero points to fully unlock an elite spec for a single toon. Now imagine, if you have 10 toons; wanna unlock elite specs for all of them? U have to perform each individual hero challenge 10 times over. And many of these hero points challenges require a decently sized group; that would be a serious issue in the near future, when the hype wears off and map becomes dead.

U have to think long term.

Unknown.3976

Solo players cannot advance in the new content, and any decent publisher would disclose such a fundamental change prior to taking your money.

where are you at? I’m decently far and so far have solo’ed every story and exploring maps. A couple of skill points have champ bosses but even solo the game allows and usually has players around also doing it. While not as easy as the core game its not impossible either. Just requires some skill.

ps: dodge and animations are more important now. Changing traits and skills too. Using more range weapons than before. Doing it on my squishy thief but having 3 bars of endurance helps ^^ We aren’t meant to just run through everything and never fail. We are suppose to learn and play better. If anything I’m enjoying the challenge.

ps2: if still having trouble I would recommend minion type classes. With the 90ish% damage reduction to minions by aoe (unless targeted) they are very strong right now and would help “solo” as they take the pressure off of you.

Lol. My experience don’t correspond with yours. Most of the hero points challenges are guarded by overtuned vets that will 2-3 shot a tanky build. They are technically impossible to solo. Skill is not a factor, grouping/zerging is.

Are u playing a melee build? My GS mesmer is having a field day whereas my healer/power hybrid guardian is having a pretty rough time. Try using a ranged build and see if things work out better.

I don’t mind Hero challenge giving 10 points being slightly difficult, but some of those you need 10 people to bring them down, its kinda ridiculous.

Not to mention, those hero challenge are often restricted by mastery gating, so bringing people to them right now can be hard too. It’s launch day and I can sit near a hero challenge in the canopy for an hour without someone coming to help, and even if someone comes, that’s still 3 people short of killing the kitten thing.

Why are you playing alone in lunch day? Why you dont have party of firends who traind the same mastery and do same explorations?

you don’t need 400 HP to use the elite specs. half of it is complete nonessentials.

But u have to unlock those non-essentials to get to the essential skills/traits.

So disappointed with the way elite spec is managed, it is utterly counter-intuitive, there’s zero incentive to equip a partially unlocked elite trait. As of now, we are stuck with core builds.

Gear Stats for HoT

in Guardian

Posted by: Unknown.3976

Unknown.3976

Use the gw2 build editor to determine your stats distribution and the type of gear needed to achieve the desired stats. Guardians have amazing sustain and it feels great when you play a class to its’ strengths. Going full zerker with low sustain can be a bit of a challenge, considering that Guardians have a a very low health pool, dmg mitigation can only take you so far.

Currently, I’m using a mix of zealot + berserker + knight + cleric ( a balance between healing + toughness +direct damage); My initial plan was to go zealot + knight. but zealot gear are incredibly expensive to craft, hence a compromise was formed.

More importantly, u need to figure out your ideal (and effective) playstyle.

I’m running mace + shield, with Symbolic Avenger for DPS, and Writ of Persistence + Altruistic Healing for sustain. Mace Symbol of faith grants regen and it provides additional heal with each pulse (writ of persistence); when you have have allies standing in your symbol, they gain boons, which in turn triggers Altruistic healing. This is just my build. Trait synergy is very crucial; Experiment and see what works best for you and your party.

Well, it sure plays different from the core guardian, but it certainly wasn’t effective for me; While the bow is a solid addition, the DH offensive traits are a total letdown, and it’s not worth picking up the DH for its’ defensive traits either; there’s way too many subpar selections in the DH traitline. Why isn’t soaring devastation and Bulwark made baseline is completely beyond me… Don’t even get me started on the minor traits, it’s been a topic of active discussion.

Dragon Hunters: What's the fuss about?

in Guardian

Posted by: Unknown.3976

Unknown.3976

They said they wanted the new Elite specs to require more skill. Dragonhunter is a perfect example of that. Can’t handle the Dragon? Don’t join the hunt.

Laying down traps and waiting on your enemy to trigger them is not a display of skill. It’s a dependence on a lack thereof from your enemy.

This is what you call looking at things in a vacuum. The DH is much more than just traps but you’re too busy trying to claim that it’s bad to admit that.

Okay, fine. The traits are garbage too, and range from very little to absolutely zero synergy with the base class. Seeing as it’s impossible to use anything else the elite spec has to offer without taking the traitline, I don’t see a reason to argue any further.

That’s not true at all. Excluding the traits that affect dragonhunter only abilities (like the traps or wings of resolve traits), the rest of generic traits work with abilities and traits from other traitlines.
All you knockbacks crippling and applying vuln, which we actually have a bunch of with shield and the wards. I’d up the vuln stacks to 3 at least though.
Two of the grandmasters work perfectly fine with the rest of the class, in fact Big game hunter works better with sword and GS than they do with the longbow. And hunters fortification makes every single aegis a condi cleanse. Even defender’s dogma can be a real asset if used right in a burn build, applying Aoe burns and cripples every 3 attacks, or after each block.

I’ll give you Hunters determination, which could just have the boon it gives changed since we already have an aegis on cc trait. Stability would be a good one. I find it stange that guardians dont have stab on cc considering warriors do, and revenants have it on dodge.

What synergy it has is rather minimal, defender dogma is virtually useless outisde of block-heavy + condi build; not to mention, it becomes worthless the moment spear of justice is activated, which means that it does not even gel at all with the trait big game hunter…

As for big game hunter, well, if I’m going the dps route, there are other traitlines with much better options. Sure I could pick zeal or radiance to go along with dragonhunter, but doing so means that I have to give up one of my defensive/survivability traitline.

And dulled senses is mainly meant for kiting builds, knockbacks on hammer and shield are mostly situational.

DH traits still need further refinement, those minor traits are incredibly restrictive and limited to very specific builds; I suppose Defender Dogma could work OK with aegis/block-heavy guardians, but it is completely antithesis to the DH playstyle.

As others have pointed out in this thread, Pure of Sight only caters to ranged users, a general melee guardian has absolutely no use for the trait; make Pure of sight a baseline for the longbow and rework the DH Minor Grandmaster.

Hunter Fortification is wonky, the cleansing effect just wouldn’t proc, not sure if it’s due to the ICD or if the trait is bugged ? Either way, Hunter Fortification is an extremely unreliable condi cleanse. And the “10% dmg reduction on no condi” requirement, just isn’t feasible in any game mode; if you’re getting hit, there’s a high chances that you will be inflicted with condi anyway, so…

Just my 2 cents.

Gryos share many of the SW weakness as well, they have health pools and the cooldown only starts upon their destruction (which will limit their use in PvE). Medic Gryo is inferior to healing turret and Blast Gryo is a single use knockback. So in short, without the proper traits, most gryos are kinda meh? They are not quite the powerhouse Guardians are hyping them up to be.

Can anyone explain the part that doesn’t make them like SW"s? I don’t see it.

They each fulfill a niche role, most do not have any offensive capabilities ( with the exception of Blast and Shredder Gyro). And gryos have an entire trait line dedicated to them (gryos secondary function is to apply superspeed and daze, and there’s a fair chunk of scrapper traits that enhances dazes and superspeed).

If SW is to match up with gryos, SW will need an elite spec of its’ own, with traits that play to its’ strength.

Engie turrets need help as well, they lack mobility and they die way too easily; Gyros are probably designed to address the community’s complaints about engie’s lackluster turrets (turrets are basically immobile minions). It will get stale and repetitive if you planning to play it long term anyway, by then players would be seeking more efficient means to accomplish their goals.

Challenge ? yeah it will entertain u for the first few dozen of hours, when you’re crossing a map for the hundredth time though, you will be seeking for efficiency instead.

Dungeon running is a perfect illustration of the meta mindset, efficiency over challenge, skipping trash mobs in favor for a easier, more production run. If players are not able to skip the content, they will just zerg up, like they do in cursed shore or on world bosses; players are even zerging up in southsun cove, farming karka for their shells and vials (southsun cove is far from a dead map).

This thread explain exactly why gw2 fail with Endgame content.

Players complain about how hard mobs are, when it just take a couple of hours to understand how to face them. A tanky necro down in 2s because of 3 snipers? I highly doubt that since I play zerk necro and it never happened to me. But sure it may happened but it’s not surprising for a HL map in any RPG if you’re alone and not “focus”.
They complain about how hard it is to move alone in a HL map of a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYERS online kitten . You’re not suppose to run like a rabbit in a HL map in any RPG. And tbh after a couple of hours you come back to basics knowledge “go alone and move slowly or join a party” wich is the whole point of a MMO (not being alone).

Players ask for END GAME and HARD CONTENT and that’s what we have. And I seriously hope that Colin’s “Challenging Content” will be a lot more challenging.

Are you insinuating me for being incompetent? I was defending a rally point when those 3 snipers spawned on my location; I immediately activated my shroud mode and they still snipe me down in under 2 secs.

And your solution to hard mobs is to zerg up with other players? What a contradictory statement to make !! Challenge is too much for solo play? Form a zerg and the challenge is gone !!! Just follow the commander tag and massacre any mobs that stands in the zerg’s way; that’s a solution alright. As a matter of fact, that’s what happened during the beta; Players were already resorting to zerg tactics to overcome the challenges. At the end of the day, players will settle for efficiency over artificial “challenge”. Challenge is nothing more than just a ego-talk.

I’m in favor of harder mobs. Finally some challenge. Well, at least there would be if they were a bit more difficult.

Mobs that instantkill a tank is not challenging, it’s just stupid hard. When a necro in tanky gear loses his shroud lifeforce, his health, his downed status in beneath 2 secs to a trio of snipers, there’s certainly something very wrong with those sniper dmg numbers. Either reduce their spawn numbers or reduce the dmg dealt, so that players are able to better react.

Smokescale need some balancing too; there’s literally no reason for players to engage them, unless you are looking for a challenge, that is… Which bring me to the next point, hard content just for the sake of being hard will wear off its’ novelty relatively fast, especially if the reward is freaking mediocre. What’s point of fighting instantkill / stupid hard mobs if all I’m getting are common drops.

It hardly matters. Snipers deal so much freaking damage, a duo or trio of them are able to down a tank in just 2- 3 secs. If u’re caught off guard by a pack of snipers, you’re essentially already dead, defensive gear wouldn’t help one bit. Snipers fights are abnormally unforgiving and leave very little room for error.

Only when I land in these maps with this mindset has it failed so far, ranged maps succeed.

How is that even possible? Based on my first hand experience, ranged maps have no hope of defeating the buffed up teq, u wouldn’t even get past the first phase.

I have scored 7 consecutive victories in the past week against Teq and I did so by selectively choosing instances that had a higher count of melee fighters within the zerg. Yes, melee combat can be messy but it’s realistically the only way to defeat teq (as of now). Teq fights now requires massive sacrifices (and initiative) to succeed.

Clearly, not a whole lot of thought process went into this update.

Unless, it’s a daily requirement, I’m not even going to bother with world bosses. Good job, anet, you’re just turning players off.

Yep. Maybe, the game dev should extend their broken game design philosophy to other game content. U can only crit a boss using cleave weapons; GW2 is a hardcore game, yo, no room for softcore players ranging from a distance. And when you do finally beat a Boss, you get rewarded with a chest that’s packed full of mostly worthless RNG loot. So rewarding, yo. /s

Phantasm Builds Got Better

I have my doubts.

I have been playing phantasm Mesmer on silverwaste for a short while now and in most situations, the phantasms got wiped before they could pull off a 2nd attack. Phantasm build just lack sustainability in certain high lvl PVE content, and if HoT is as challenging as Anet as hyped it to be, I could see phantasm builds losing some of its’ appeal.

Can’t speak for PvP or WvW though.

forcing players

Nobody is forcing you to do the dailies. Nobody is forcing you to do anything you don’t want to.

Don’t change the context of my statement, it is dismissive and adds nothing to the discussion, it’s insulting. If you do not have an adequate counter-argument, why even reply? Nobody is forcing you to reply to my message.

I’m a PVE player and this change to dailies is a drastic step back. Seriously, who thought of this?

In the past, PVE players can easily accomplish the dailies, just by participating in several public events, and public events is a strong suit of GW2; the dailies and public events complements each other well enough.

Now with the new system in space, we have to accomplish very specific missions. Instead of broad, general objectives, we are given very specific instructions on what to do, it’s a CHORE.

I read the “Introducing the New Daily Achievement System” article and just couldn’t comprehend just how these changes reinforce that manifesto Anet is aiming for; they want player to experience content variation, but forcing players to partake in very specific missions/objective is not the way to achieve that, it just feels repetitive, grindy; to top it off, some of these chores are freaking mundane (for instance, go gather some wood in kryta region, seriously wtf ?!?).
