So how much would it cost right now to get 100G from gems?

http://www.gw2spidy.com/gem

1g = 0.84 USD atm.

=/ I don’t get it…

100 gold from gems
1g = 0.84 USD

100 × 0.84 = $84

You can’t spend $84 but you can spend $85 ($50 + $35). So 100g = $85

I think you’re missing the point. Class balance isn’t about giving one class a buff just because they received a nerf last patch.

It doesn’t matter what other classes have.

It doesn’t matter how many buffs/nerfs you received last patch.

If something is not balanced it should be fixed because it needs to be balanced, not because you think it’s fair or unfair that your class got x number of nerfs last patch.

The devs said in BETA that the ranger utilities needed work and that they were still missing 3 (turned out to be the shouts). We got the 3 missing utilities and they have continued to say Ranger utilities need work without doing anything about it yet.

You seem to be suggesting Rangers are fine and shouldn’t be balanced ‘just because’. What I’m saying, the devs have said, and everyone else is saying too, is that Rangers NEED WORK and have since launch. They haven’t gotten it yet and people are starting to feel like it’s never going to happen.

The first meaningful buffs to happen to ranger since beta (25% move signet, arrow speed, and pets hitting moving targets) can all be construed as a general game fix because every last one of them effects several other professions. It’s just a reasonable to assume that they were trying to fix a different profession that had the same problems and decided “Well, we have to give rangers the same” as it is to assume they were trying to fix rangers and other professions just benefit from it.

tl;dr Again, Rangers are NOT balanced. They have a lot of problems in utilities, traits, and pet mechanics. They aren’t “horribly broken” but even the devs have said the ranger needs the most work. The problems aren’t going to get fixed with multi-profession buffs/fixes because many of the problems are ranger specific so they need ranger specific fixes.

You guys are soooo whinny, my god. O noes! They’re making other classes speed signets(which are just as worthless ATM) better as wells! But, but, but how will I feels special/better than they are unless my class is the only one to get a buff on fairly useless signets???? Well my class is worthless until they give into my whinnying and implement a ‘one shot’ skill so I can then whine it isn’t aoe and therefore sucks /QQ.

Grow up people…you’re not the only class in the game, let alone the only one that needs help. If you’re gonna spend so much time whinnying at least direct it towards actual problems your class has. Not just ‘/sad my class isn’t mechanic wise OP to others’ seriously…

This is what is known as ‘missing the point’.

Pre-Launch: Rangers nerfed to hell.

First big balance patch: Every class tweaked in various ways except ranger (not even mentioned).

Second big balance patch: Ranger becomes the Aquaman of Guild Wars 2. We do kick kitten underwater.

Third big balance patch: Rangers are led to believe that Rangers specifically were getting buffed finally. Turns out Anet is just balancing the game as a whole and Rangers happen to benefit from it.

The Point: Rangers have been sub-par since the nerfs in beta. We’ve been told “substantial changes” are coming. I think for obvious reasons people are assuming that means Ranger specific improvements. This isn’t ranger specific so while it’s still a nice improvement it does nothing towards fulfilling the promised “substantial changes” in a meaningful way.

This is really more of a indirect nerf to Thieves, Warriors, Engineers, and Guardians (assuming the last 3 don’t get a comparable improvement to movement) than it is a buff to Rangers.

Edit: I’m still in “wait-and-see” mode until tomorrow. Who knows what else the patch might bring.

Unspecified.9142

Right now I don’t know that I’d pay much for a gold. Back when I was broke in-game it was a different story. I converted some gems to gold when it was around $1 = 1g because I needed a start-up fund for playing the TP.

I started with 50 gold, I have about 70 gold right now. But I have also required ridiculous amounts of stuff that I still have (2000 ancient wood planks, 250 emerald and sapphire orbs, 500 orichalcum ingots, etc…) that probably all cost a total 300g or more at the time of purchase and most of it I could sell right now for a profit (but I actually want the stuff).

Best way to fill in dye collection?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Unspecified.9142

Unspecified.9142

To be perfectly honest with you it’s probably cheaper to just buy each dye individually from the TP rather than gambling away on dye packs and the mystic forge.

Before the Unidentified Dye price skyrocketed I always opened the ones I got (and that was a LOT). I think I have most of the common dyes but almost none of the others. I’ve also combined a lot of the common dyes in the mystic forge and guess what I got? More common dyes the vast majority of the time.

I know some dyes like Abyss and Celestial cost a fortune but you could easily spend more gambling for them. The common dyes though go for less than a silver last I checked.

Mystic Coins

Two days and the price will likely plummet for the rest of the month.

People can make 50-51 mystic coins a month. Some people want/need/use thousands. Guess where they come from? Casual players that don’t care about them (edit: and bots, which got mass banned recently although they are back in force….). Many of them will have moved on to other games and so won’t be supplying people with cheap coins. They may come back for Wintersday.

Last month the monthly was very unfriendly to casual players with Dungeon and Fractal requirements (both required time commitment and groups). Fractals especially could be very difficult to get a group for but so could dungeons if you hadn’t done story modes for anything yet. So that’s a month with less ‘spare coins’ entering the market. The last 2 weeks no monthly achievements have been completed obviously which means the market is drying up.

On the 14th it will likely become possible to complete the monthly and that means tons of people completing it all at once. Which means tons of mystic coins entering the market. Which means market crash. If GW2spidy was working I’d link it but you can see the same thing happening since launch. Monthly achievements dictate the market for coins.

Needs more gap closers or a faster casting slow/more slows.

The damage is fine, but whats the point if you get kited the whole time? #4’s casting is too long

The easy solution is to use Spike Trap, Frost Trap, Muddy Terrain, Canine pets or have shortbow or axe on swap instead of chasing them around.

I admit I only do WvW but I’ve never had a problem being kited in any situation because I have tools to prevent it and/or deal with it. Sometimes it’s easier to use what you have instead of wishing you had something you don’t.

Sad to see this from Jon Peters though.

“Don’t worry we wouldn’t leave you behind. Locust is getting improved as well.”

“Why not, Signet of Air needs it too”

Not that I don’t want other classes improved but I though this was more to help our class be more mobile than other classes.

If you havn’t seen the post in the Necro forum apparently they are going to 25% too.

Suddenly my excitement for this signet improvement dropped dramatically. It’s still kind of nice and all but if everyone can go the same speed it’s not so useful. It just becomes one of those “Take it or you’re the slow guy” rather than “Take it and you’re the fast guy.”

Based on what I know right now, I might swap out one of my traps for SotH occasionally instead of only during a jumping puzzle.

SotH being 25% doesn’t make a signet build any better than it currently is and (imho) it’s not very good right now compared to alternatives. (Signet of Stone has it’s uses when traited I suppose)

Rise of lodestone prices?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Unspecified.9142

Unspecified.9142

Part of the problem is the ways to get Lodestones without the TP are obscure and not necessarily something people would just discover through ‘normal play’. RNG could easily make it so someone never gets one from any source. So people simply don’t know how to get Lodestones outside of the TP.

And people are allergic to research. It makes them feel ‘icky’ or something.

Edit: I’m sure there is also a correlation between the “Magic find in dungeons makes you a terrible person!” And “OMG Lodestones are too expensive!”

WvW and general PvE: Krytan Drakehound and Wolf for the CC, durability, and decent damage. Canines can run people down and tackle them pretty well in WvW with good speed boosts.

Dungeons: Same as above or Red and Blue Moas for the Vigor on swap, Healing, and Boons (also decent survivability with high vitality).

Underwater: Rainbow and Blue Jellyfish. AoE regen, AoE blind/smoke field, 3k-4k AoE damage with a 2 second chill (F2) and good survivability.

Unspecified.9142

The ranger is in the state that any little change will make it extremely powerful or slightly underpowered, which is why it’s probably worrisome for the devs to make any drastic changes suddenly.

I kind of agree with this single statement here. The ranger is in a very strange place right now. There are several serious problems and a lot of minor problems but even slight changes could make the ranger extremely powerful if done in isolation.

I’ve said it many times I suspect the reason it’s taking so long for ranger balance is because an overhaul is needed. A whole lot of changes need to happen but they have to happen all at once or things will go very, very wrong.

(I also suspect there will be a lot of ‘nerfs’ that come with the ‘buffs’)

Do you have any idea what purging those orders would do to the economy?

I’m willing to bet a lot of people have forgotten about those orders (when you buy/sell a lot things just vanish in your list of buy/sell orders). If Anet suddenly purged them and returned all that money to people that would be a HUGE surge of gold entering the market all at once.

I also agree with Awesome. Why do you care?

Edit: Oh, it would also mess with the economy because supply/demand numbers would shift radically on a lot of items. Those numbers are used by a lot of people when determining prices. Not sure if it would be good or bad, but it would be a crazy time for the economy.

Trait Skills lack synergy

in Ranger

Posted by: Unspecified.9142

Unspecified.9142

The funny thing is this is one of the things almost no one ever complains about. People complain about far simpler things like useless skills and mostly pets.

You are right the trait lines are a pretty big mess but the solution to that is far more complicated. I don’t think most rangers have gotten past the more superficial issues to realize (or care) about the problems with traits yet.

My biggest complaint for a long time has been the traps which are all condition damage (or just condition with frost trap) have the traits (that’s right, two of them to make traps good) buried in the precision and crit damage line. You need at least the ground targeting to make traps worth a utility slot (or this would be true if other utilities were worth a kitten . No condition duration or damage that could actually, you know, improve the traps. Also most of the good pet traits are not in the beastmastery line because it’s filled with a bunch of species specific traits and other mostly useless junk (e.g. Master’s Bond).

Out of combat speed: 100%
In combat speed: ~80% (this is a rough estimate on my part but the exact amount isn’t really relevant to the point)

OoC speed with old SotH: 110%
IC speed with old SotH: ~88% (0.8 × 1.1)

OoC speed with new SotH: 125%
IC speed with new SotH: ~100% (0.8 × 1.25)

At least this one isn’t claiming the combat speed slowdown is a ‘bug’. When you add 25% of a slower base speed it’s obviously going to be slower than 25% more of a faster base speed. It’s still faster than without though.

“Charged Lodestones were up around 2.9 gold at the end of October. The price went down. Now it’s back up.”

Do you have proof? Not saying that you’re lying, but…Don’t really remember that price. I know, it was higher and it went down thanks to Fractals, but this fact is not helping anymore.

About Dawn – could be. 61 gold is not big enough for you?

Another example, Abyss dye. Something like a month ago or a bit more it was 4.5g. Now it’s 19.5g. Isn’t large enough inflation for you?)

Another example, t6 Blood. Hundreds percent increase.

10 days stability for ecto prices? Wow, it’s an achievement. I guess I should be really happy that it’s not 1g/ea yet.

Charged Lodestones proof: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24305

About Dawn: A 61 gold decrease in price is pretty big yes.

Vial of Powerful Blood: Yes it spiked significantly about a month ago. It has also dropped from 30 silver to 21 silver a vial in the last 10 days. http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/24305

Ectos: I didn’t say stability, I said decreased in price. November 30, 37 silver. Today 31 to 32 silver. http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19721

Almost everything started dropping in price around noon pacific time on November 30th. I don’t know why, it just did. Prices have been in decline on most high end crafting mats since then.

Forgive me but where is this weakness on the Axe?

@OP Axe works just fine in a power/crit build. It’s bad for single target but as a kiting/utility weapon for groups and to balance out your sword it’s fine.

I’d suggest considering Shortbow instead (though it’s single target and not AoE) since either you need 2 separate offhands or you suffer from joint CDs on your weapon sets. Torch isn’t good for a power build. Horn is fine though with the change coming to SotH (25% move YAY!) horn will lose some of its ommph and that leaves dagger.

Silver Doubloons

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Unspecified.9142

Unspecified.9142

Someone is definitely price fixing on Silver Doubloons (or trying to). You can see it in the buy orders too.

Buy Orders
45.73 – 2
42.71 – 1
41.73 – 2
40.73 – 1
38.53 – 0
37.04 – 20
37.03 – 250
37.02 – 17
37.01 – 99

The top 5 are almost definitely posted by the same person who bought every silver doubloon up to 1g earlier. They are very unnatural jumps in price and the fact they almost all end in .73 is too much of a pattern (and shows laziness honestly).

The goal is to get someone to post a buy order above 45.73 before the buy order is filled. Preferably multiple someones and then pull those buy orders once the new price is set. The individual doing this is obviously broke and/or skirting their ‘acceptable profit’ line otherwise those buy orders would likely be much larger, especially the top one, to create a block even if some orders get filled. This shows they are afraid of buying too many at the ~45 silver mark because it would cut too deeply in to their profit.

If you don’t believe me go look at the history of Passion Flowers, though some of it (like the buy order fixing) isn’t as obvious from GW2spidy graphs anymore.

The more you know and all that.

Edit: The top 5 I listed here were either pulled or filled about 2 minutes after I posted this.

You need to look at buy orders to know what they are ‘going for’.

Keep in mind the price the TP shows there is not necessarily the ‘real price’. Many times if you click the item you’ll find the price changes. Also just because someone is trying to sell it for that doesn’t mean anyone is buying. The low level may have had one listed for less than the higher level until recently when someone bought it and a new cheap one hasn’t been posted yet.

Alternatively the high level one may have recently had someone post one below the ‘average’ price and it hasn’t sold yet.

I then have plans to level every other profession too. All the while I play around in WvW regularly, mess around on the TP for money, run the occasional dungeon, and slowly work towards a legendary weapon. Also looking forward to 3 big updates in the coming months for free.

I bought the digital deluxe the day pre-orders were possible. The only thing any of the ‘bonuses’ are remotely good for is making leveling a character slightly easier.

1) Mistfire Wolf – Great, you’re guaranteed to have an elite skill at 30. Once you have a class elite you forget you have it.
2) Golem Banker – Good for the first few days a character exists (times out after 4? days) but honestly I forget about it because Deposit Collectibles and almost everything else gets sold. You very rarely need bank access unless you’re already in a town or at a crafting table.
3) Chalice/Tome – These are nice little boosts and all but long term you’ll forget they existed (I did).
4) Rytlock Mini – Okay, If you REALLY care about a single mini this kind of matters but honestly… it’s a mini.

I don’t regret buying the DD version of the game because it tells Anet “I really really like and care about this game.” I don’t really care about any of the stuff though. Complaining about the industry standard of those late to the party save money on some fluff is just silly.

Agreed. Signet of the hunt needs to and will go to 25%.

Jon, you really need to rethink putting such IMS signets in the game at all, atleast those with such a significant boost.
I simply don’t see how making a skill essentially a requirement for WvW, and irresistible for general PVE (i.e. except dungeons) leads not to less choice and a poorer experience.
Of course, in sPvP due to the nature of the maps it’s much less pronounced and other skills are able to compete with IMS signets, but it has such a huge effect on the aforementioned formats that I’d reconsider if it’s worth it.

This is partially true. I’m willing to bet that a lot of people think of their bars as a static ‘set it and forget it’ thing. I personally change weapons/skills on the fly a lot.

In WvW I generally run with a greatsword and axe/warhorn and 3 traps (VN, ST, and Frost) right now. However, if I’m doing keep defense/siege the greatsword gets swapped for a longbow unless I’m playing ‘kill the reinforcements’. If I’m going to take a camp solo (I do this a lot) I swap the warhorn for a torch. I also use the longbow for general JP trolling from time to time.

With the same build I replace spike trap with one of the signets depending on what I’m doing and if I want more condition removal, that little bit of healing, or more speed. I also use flame trap instead of venom in dungeons for the combo field or if I’m farming Orr I drop frost because of a lack of damage on it.

The point is, yes if SotH changes to 25% it will see a LOT more time on my bar but there will also be plenty of times it’s not there at all. My traits points will remain constant, though I also change what traits are slotted sometimes. Agility training is great in WvW, useless in PvE (I always find myself saying “Fetch!” as my dog runs people down and tackles them).

More than 5 seconds, maybe like 15 or 30. Same length as the norn racial worm summon, that would be a good idea, I sometimes throw my worm on the bar just to have an extra body to tank for a short while when playing my ranger.

I wasn’t talking about a skill, but a trait so it would happen every single time you hit F4. You can swap pets every 16 seconds if you’ve traited far enough in BM for a grandmaster trait. If it was 15 seconds you’d have 2 pets 15/16 seconds.

I was thinking that if you were swapping pets every 16 seconds for Zephyr’s you’d have 2 pets 5 seconds out of every 16.

Dual Active Pet Trait

I don’t think I’d go so far as both pets all the time but maybe something like:

“Persistence (yeah I named it): When swapping pets your first pet will remain in battle for 5 seconds but be uncontrollable. If the Active pet skill is not on cooldown it is used at the end of the 5 seconds.”

Basically on pet swap you have both pets for 5 seconds. The pet you swapped to would be completely normal but the pet you swapped out would just remain and do whatever the AI wants it to for 5 seconds. If it dies before the 5 seconds is up it has no effect on the swap timer and if it lives out the 5 seconds, great, it will use it’s F2 ability if you didn’t manually activate it and put it on CD. (might be a little strong with birds though)

*Edit: I’d replace Instinctual Bond by the way because well… It’s instinctual bond and Natural Healing is actually good and serves a purpose.

Ranger Movement Speed

Agreed. Signet of the hunt needs to and will go to 25%.

I honestly didn’t expect this to happen. I’m thrilled it is happening, but I never expected it.

Makes me wonder what other changes will go with it though. Agility Training for example gives only your pet 30% move speed. SotH would give you and your pet 25%, and let’s face it how many people won’t be taking SotH at 25% move speed if that was the only thing changed about the ranger?

If you use the Horn and Greatsword (for swoop) the make use of Spike Trap, Frost Trap and Winter’s Bite (axe main hand) you can easily catch and kill thieves (or out run them if that’s your thing).

I easily out-pace zergs in WvW. If you take Offhand Training or Martial Mastery you can move even faster (both would require giving up the grandmaster trait and both are too good in WS to not use one or the other). I’m sure you could use Signet of the Hunt for even faster movement but I just can’t be bothered with it. I prefer another trap (usually Viper’s Nest).

Harpoon vs Spear

Harpoon Gun… ehhh

Spear… errr….

JELLYFISH!!!

Personally I use the harpoon gun almost exclusively (spear for mobility) but really it’s my dual Jellyfish (rainbow and blue) that do the heavy lifting. 3,000+ AoE damage and chill twice in the first 10 seconds of combat (with an AoE blind and AoE regen thrown in) and then repeat every 15 or 20 seconds and it really doesn’t matter what you are doing as long as you keep the enemies bunched up in one spot.

I go for Harpoon for the 3 skill that gives my Jellyfish fury and does decent AoE damage and the 1 spam for stacking some bleeds in an AoE. The blind and retreat on 5 is nice in a pinch too.

How many people here still kill the dragons?

I can’t be bothered with the dragons. There’s just so many better things I could be doing with my game time. I did them each a couple of times and it was fun but now they just feel like a long chore with little to no payoff.

I’d rather just AoE farm around Orr to be honest. I usually end up with more in less time.

Karka reward chest unfair

This is why most companies just ignore this stuff from the start.

It doesn’t matter what they do someone is going to piss and moan about it.

I did the event, got my chest, didn’t get one mailed to me (yet?) and I don’t deserve one. I think it sucks that people who exploited the event (did it more than once) are getting more in some cases but I’m not going to get upset about it.

I’m just happy Anet is making an effort to give those who deserve it what they do deserve. If some random people happen to get a bonus, fine. It’s the price of trying to do the right thing (unfortunately some of the players didn’t/aren’t doing the right thing).

Lost Shores event disconnect solution? [merged threads]

I played the event with 3 characters spent several hours each to get the chest.
Only by getting disconnected on 2/3 of my characters I finaly got it on one if the characters but i did the event 3 times but only 1 chest. Am i going to get a mail?
I feel like i deserve chest accordingly to to how many times i did the event just like other events in the game.

You were only supposed to be able to do the event ONCE. Period. I’ll translate what you said accordingly:

“I found and tried to abuse the heck out of an exploit to get the chest multiple times. Unfortunately connection issues prevented me from getting rewarded for my exploiting. I should be compensated for my failed exploitation attempts.”

Do you see the problem?

I’m going to assume that the thread title was using an unconventional form of the abbreviation OP. In this case:

Axe + Torch PvE help

I use this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNAnfRjEV11tVyVo2Bi2jJZ+zzeYIH9oXh0XwqG

Barkskin and Empathic bond are interchangeable and should be swapped based on what you are doing and whether conditions are a concern or not.

Edit: Really the trap traits, barkskin/empathic bond, and Offhand Training are the only ‘must have’ traits in that build. The rest is really optional. I happen to really like 5 in beastmastery for the QZ + 1 spam on greatsword (so much evading).

You can actually get away with pre/tough/condi gear or pre/pow/tough armor easily (I use berserker jewelry because I just don’t have anything else right now). I have both sets and have used both succesfully (I’ve also used full apothecary). Toughness is important, vitality not so much. Then just choose your preferred damage type and go for it. Condition Damage actually works better if you’re just lazy farming around Orr or something but if you want to do dungeons it’s not always the best. I’ve found power to be the more versatile and generally useful if you only have one set but in situations where Condi is stronger than power it REALLY outclasses it (with this build).

The main thing you need to learn with this build is you axe is not a ranged weapon (not long range anyway). Between Splitblade and Bonfire you actually want to be up in the enemies face most of the time. Floating at around 100-400 range is usually a good place to be.

I basically use the axe to gather up as many enemies as I can (literally I can’t pull enough mobs in Orr before they leash to fail). Once they are grouped drop your traps and Bonfire. Fire Split Blade through the group (aiming can be tricky). Swap to greatsword and maul/1 spam until they’re all dead (swoop for a fire shield or a heal through healing spring if you can).

If you’re fighting a champ or another tough single target swap out the greatsword for a shortbow and swap between axe/torch and shortbow liberally to keep up as many conditions as you can while not 1 spamming on the axe/torch set unless you have to, or there is 2-3 targets. 2-5 on axe/torch should be on CD as much as possible though.

It works incredibly well actually. The main reason I prefer this over a lot of other builds is I can AoE farm better than any other spec I’ve tried. I can kill 5+ enemies in the time it takes many rangers to kill one.
