Nanuchka, norn mesmer: “BOOZEAHOL!”
Tarnished Coast – Still Here, El Guapo!
I don’t expect a GW2 expansion until after Wildstar releases to avoid one bigfooting the other.
I really do need to watch more Parks & Rec.
Thief. I’m just too hooked on the aesthetics of P/D. Tuck, roll, shoot, I’m a Sylvari action hero!
I would think Anet has 36 million reasons to have a hearty chuckle at anyone thinking the game is dying.
That said, perception does skew one’s view of reality. Low pop servers may look ‘dead’ compared to what we see on high-tier servers like Tarnished Coast.
EDIT: mirta and killcannon bring up some good ideas too, though I’m iffy on putting on exact population counts for each server. And TC is for more than just RP.

My review of the ‘review’: 5 out of 5 trollfaces. Well done, you got plenty of bites.
A: No.
Want a longer answer? Nooooooooooooooooooo.
drama thread go go go
go home nightmare, you’re drunk
You’re implying the holy trinity was a bad thing.
I’m stating the trinity is not for everyone.
What it really boils down to for me personally is, can they fix the game before ESO, FFXIV, WildStar, Camelot Unchained, etc. come out.
I’m reminded of all the talk about how other games were doomed because of TOR.
When another game comes out that eschews quest logs, need/greed, node claiming, subs, trinity, et al, then maybe, just maybe. But I’m not seeing that game on the horizon just yet.
Almost nine months in and I’m still getting kicked to overflow. I don’t think the game has any problems with longevity.
Longevity has nothing to do with being kicked to overflow.
It does when you factor in that its almost nine months into the game’s life. We’re over the hump.

I m not an elitist.
Also, ah, speed-farming CoF and doing FotM isn’t exactly what one would call ‘casual’ activity.
My issue is not that the Emotes are being sold.. that’s really cool it’s that they are. However the issue is them being linked to an item. I would love a Emote tag on my Hero panel showing the unlocked emotes on my Account. Then when I buy the book I can use it unlock those 3 dances. There is just too much rubbish that sits in bags.
On this I can agree. I thought I was buying a book that I could convert into emotes, instead I have another item clogging my inventory. The new dance emotes aren’t as spectacular as the racial ones either.
But I can shoot other players with dance beams though, I have to try that out the next time I visit Divinity’s Reach or Lion’s Arch.
And seems differently from what you think MOST players are elitists playing fotm, cof and stuff like that.
And you have facts and numbers backing this up?
There’s a problem with paying extra for emotes? We did that all the time in City of Heroes. Fluff like this is what the cash shop should be for.
Or maybe hunting / farming achievements. ‘Kill Da Wabbit’ for dropping 100 defenseless critters.
I’m talking about it’s own Unique Trait. Like in the Menu have another Tab saying “recreation”. Maybe have it so you can only take 2 recreation’s at once.
I kinda like the way it is now better, this way anyone can join in the hunt. Maybe more diversity in animals hunted? Rabbits and small birds giving you game meat? That might not be a bad idea, but I imagine we’d be de-fauna-ing Tyria in no time.
Farming is in the game, nobody in Beetletun seems to mind when I walk off with all their lettuce. Hunting’s also in the game, what with all those boars and doe and cows just sitting there with health bars having over their heads.
Fishing though… I can get behind that. Engies have to be able to grenade fish though.
So, what happens if you step off?
X% of power is given to toughness.
I like your other ideas. Given the current aggro system, however, I’d much rather have vitality instead.
HATER FORCE ASSEMBLE!
Also bookmarking this thread for when OP posts again in a week or two.
I’m going purely off of Perfect World’s other games for my opinion on Neverwinter. If they know how to balance classes in 15 games, then I think they can do it one more time.
As an off/on STO and CO player, I really want to post this to those games’ forums and see how much of a laugh I’d get.
The 3 humanoid races are just too boring for me. They all run the same, and feel the same. If ANet truly wanted to step away from the stereotypical fantasy world, they wouldn’t have included humans, possibly Norn either. Norn and Humans are a couple of the most common racial archetypes found in any MMO. The Sylvari are an excuse to add Elves. They are elves basically, although a bit more embellished.
As a Sylvari player and fan, I recommend reading more about the Sylvari and playing one. You’ll find that they’re about as traditionally elven as Mr. Spock.
Why can’t we play the game the way we as individuals feel is fun and not as ANET seems to be preventing us from doing?
Because there is no one size fits all personal definition of fun, and there has to be allowances for content consumption balance.
This basically gives them the capability to move around unseen and pick their targets. It also gives them a means to escape if it looks like they are about to die. However, it also means that in order for them to actually fight someone, they have to stay visible and fight them. Their means to avoid damage is now through the use of evades.
In exchange we want more HP and more damage. You take away from our survival and burst mechanics, we want something back.
I wonder how the Thief population would react if ArenaNet stepped out and said ‘’We have removed stealth and added more shadowstepping and more toughness to this profession.’’
Fortunately, Anet doesn’t want to put a .45 bullet into their own game, so this will never happen.
Sooooo… you suggesting you NEED more than one person to take down a thief? If this doesn’t sound broken to you I don’t know what will.
I’m saying what’s broken is complaining about 1 vs 1 and neglecting that WvW and PvP is about team play.
The biggest problem with stealth right now in Guild Wars 2 is that there is no direct counter to it. Sure, you can swing your sword around like a maniac trying to connect with the thief but that isn’t really countering the stealth itself.
So there’s nobody riding shotgun on your team who can drop a Meteor Strike or two in your vicinity or some other form of AoE? Thieves aren’t exactly the sturdiest of classes, and GC thieves even less so.
take thief for example and point me one that doesnt spam heartseeker and who can blame them the darn skill hits for up to 4k damage even on bunker builds and has no cooldown .
Hi, P/D and SB condition thief here.
I see your point and you are not wrong, but forcing people into doing things they won’t do on their own sets the basis for a migration.
Think of it more as guiding players into doing things they normally wouldn’t. Without that guide, they’ll just go further along the path of least resistance for the best rewards, and you wind up with deader zones.
Let’s get to the point : In my opinion, and I might be wrong, and I do hope people will express their opinion if it is different, Thieves have less options in the matter of how to play their class. I feel that this is caused by the stealth mechanics you described, and the way this profession has been conceived, but I think that Thieves can only rely on stealth to do their deed. It’s all about trying to sneak up on your target (which can be alone, or within a group), deal as much damage as possible in the less time possible, and go back to a safe place to prepare your next move.
I get what you’re saying, but its like saying that rangers and necros can only rely on their pets, mesmers can only rely on their clones, and elementalists have to rely on all of the elements. Each class has its special mechanic as its centerpiece, that’s going to inherently limit builds.
That being said, I disagree. I’ve been using short bow more and more frequently in AoE spam situations, there’s no need to stealth if you’re laying down poison fields and cluster bombs while zipping back and forth. I’ve also switched to a P/D build which, while using stealth, doesn’t use it as its burst mechanic but for survivability and laying down nice stacks of bleeds.
Thief stealth is all about what you make of it. Sure, you can GC burst, but that’s not the only build.
I have no problem with the Pale Tree having an avatar. It makes the cutscenes between my Sylvari, Caithe, Traehearne, and Mother Tree better, if you ask me.
For me my ideal daily would be just logging in wvw, doing stuff i always do and finishing it before i notice. Instead i have to go to low level zone i dont care about , go around looking for meaningless events and veterans, waste time trying to find mobs with attack that warrant dodge (breathing skills, aoe markers etc.), harvesting materials i dont need etc. Meanwhile other people that do other things should be able to finish them their way – be it spvp, dungeon runs, or whatever.
Doesn’t WvW have veterans and events and resource nodes and drops to recycle and why the heck are you not dodging in WvW?
Good point, I’ve seen other threads about this “issue” where people say they go to WvWvW, the daily is done in 20 min and they didn’t even realize they were working on it. You have to try harder to NOT finish the daily.
Now that caffeine is kicking in, some dailies are location restricted so it might not be that easy. At least one of the five of the day is WvW related, though, so you do get that advantage. Its worth looking more into.
Rather than pick 1 line of my entire thread that I chose poor words for and try to rustle my jimmies, why not actually address points made?
Because on one hand you’re doomcrying and applauding hyperbole while on the other crying about ‘constructive conversations’ when called out on it. Really funny how that works.
There’s no need to address points when you’re actively trying to jimmie rustle and stir up drama. I’ll be over in the gallery with tolunart.

People are leaving the game in droves because of everything only being available from Black Lion chests and all of the content being removed after a week.
Unfounded doomcrying is constructive conversation too! Who knew?
Its funny huh?? How things have changed so much from the “promises” they made during the development cycle in all their videos.
This has to be one of the grindiest MMO’s I have played in a long time…its been promoted to “Eastern (I don’t want to offend anyone with the other word) MMO” in my opinion…
Agreed. I also find it funny how legendaries can be bought and sold on the trading post.
So playing Hyperbole Theater is ‘constructive conversation’? Huh, the things I learn here.
Seriously, if GW2 is ‘one of the grindiest MMOs you have played in a long time’ and are comparing it to Eastern grinders, uh, I feel bad for you but I’m not sure just how many MMOs you’ve actually played.
Level 50 and I already have 33 laurels and enough karma to get reincarnated as the Dalai Lama, just from cleaning up on dailies and monthlies as I come across them. Well, alright, I’ve dabbled a couple times with WvW too.
So, yeah. Still not sure how anyone can see dailies as a chore. You want a real chore, I know at least one or two other games I can point you to for that.
Any advice on trait lines?
I’ve been using Aberrant’s build through the high 40s, so far I haven’t noticed any problems with it:

I know this conversation took place about a month ago, but I came back to the forums to post a comment about heavy armor wearers deserving circlets and came across this thread while researching.
Some threads need be re-animated. I threw in a few +1s of my own, including one on your own post. I’ve been waiting eight months for more costume options to show up in the cash shop, and I’m still waiting with money in hand. At the least can we have the NPC city and town outfits?
- 1 – I believe activity is a large role in whether or not a game is dying. If half of my guild is going inactive, as well as every single other guild that I’ve talked to as well (like I said above, except 475+ guilds) have been drastically losing activity, that’s a sure sign of a game dying.
Have you polled all the guilds in the game? Do you know if new guilds and new players are signing up? Have you checked the population meters for each server? How about at least checking someplace like Xfire since its actually quantifiable?
- 2 – Another sign, as pointed above, is dungeon running. Hardly anyone runs dungeons anymore compared to what it used to be, and I don’t really think you can argue with that. I don’t count people sitting in Lion’s Arch afk dancing with their fractal backpiece and legendary as being active.
/e goes to gw2lfg.com, waits for the site to load, checks to see how many lfg requests there are
/e comes back
You were saying?
- 3 – I never said GW1 was, or is, better than Guild Wars 2. I said there are amazing aspects of Guild Wars 1 that were never included in Guild Wars 2, and it is a shame that some things they did right in their first game, they completely messed up in their second.
Please, do read the post before commenting on it. If you can read all of that in less than 30 seconds after I post it, hats off to you, but when your comment doesn’t make sense with what I wrote, anyone can tell you didn’t.
I speed read it, which is all I needed. Its the same kitten every. kitten. time.
“The game is dying!” “The game needs a trinity NOW!” “CoF p1 speedruns!” “GW1 was better!” “Fanboy!”
At the least, if you’re gonna come with a criticism, at least come with something original and actually worthy of discussion like if the pre-endgame economy and the cash shop needs improving. Not the same kitten drama bombs we’ve heard over and over and over and over and over again.
But hey, I went off to adventure a bit, do some reading, and came back a couple hours later to find you’re at over 100 replies now. That’s a nice chunk of forum PvP XP right there. A winner is you.
I love playing GW2, but, GW1 DOES HAVE better game-play, GW2 just looks better.
Nothing wrong with varying tastes. I’ve just noticed that almost every Doom™ post comes with the same rationales like ‘its not as good as GW1’.
The Exodar was a beautiful ship, and it was pretty kitten dead too. Players will always gravitate to the center of the action. If it wasn’t Lion’s Arch, it’d probably be Divinity’s Reach due to the plurality of humans.
Wake up Anet, your game is starting to die.
Unfounded claims of the game dying: Check.
Claims that GW2 isn’t as good as GW1: Check.
Its like a pattern in every kitten ‘complaint’ thread. All I’m missing is ‘whar trinity whar’.
I’ve made 47 levels in something like three to four weeks and I’m still not tired of my thief. Admittedly, it has been harder to pick up the mesmer I re-re-rolled, but I think that mostly has to do with that she just seems so vanilla at level 4.
I think it takes more than the first 15 levels to decide on a build, at least for some people, including me. I mean I played d/d for the first 25 levels or so, then p/p for 20 more levels, then s/p for 40 levels, and I currently run s/d and shortbow.
I bounced from weapon set to weapon set before I finally settled on a P/D and shortbow condition build at 46 myself. Once you get a good set of slot skills and start building on your master traits, that’s when the picture starts to get clearer.
Not to mention further dividing the players, that’ll work real well.
First it would be funny to see how they like it, particularly if lots of people start doing it, but more, it would give everyone else a chance to get in their dungeon runs, without kowtowing to the efficiency slaves.
Because every warrior is an efficiency slave.
The dolyak is part of the nearby skill point, I believe.
Approximately every six minutes an Old Dolyak will spawn and head to Dolyak’s Rest to die, where a Dolyak Spirit will then spawn and head into a nearby cave.
There is a chance that a bandit ghost named Veteran “Slick” Ricki will spawn from the pile of Dusty Bones next the waterfall after the spirit disappears. Not apart of the skill point, as it is just a commune skill point that is always active.
Interesting on the timer, thought it was because I went in and examined the Supplies, Journal, and Bones.
Either way it was a nice thing to stumble upon while out in the world.
I had finished communing and was standing there getting dust in my eyes from the conversation between the boy, his mother, and his grandfather when the ghost dolyak arose. I gave the ghost a few minutes to wander away and then realized it hadn’t simply disappeared. So I followed it and found the ghost bandits. All those little things adding up? That’s the best open world design I’ve seen in years.
I should agree with Dasorine, but right now I’m just too fond of Hide In Shadows stealth and condition cleaning.
