Yeah, ofcourse. I spent 2-3 hours on a way harder dungeon than regular dungeons, and I get the same or sometimes even worse loot than I would have gotten in regular dungeons. Yeah, that reward structure is fine.

Probably after www season ill leave this game for good . We have same situation like 2 months after release, nothing to do . I survived it once but I am not gona suffer another time . Living story 2 is crap and probably it will be till the end + no updates to www/spvp killed this game for me .
I completely agree with you . Anet numbers means nothing . When 99% of content is casual spamming 11111 all stats will show that people do more casual stuff becasue all we have are casual activities ! More difficult content has no rewards and it is a bit sad that AC path=Aether path o_0 maybe even on Ac you have more rewards . And hardcore content means that less people will finish it ! what is the sense of making hardcore content which 95% of people can complete . Then it is not hardcore content , content like that should finish 20% of population max .
Vayne you make alot of bold claims about the gw2 playerbase saying things like most players hate hard content and that most players would never do it, I would love to know where you get your facts and figures from.
Long long experience with MMOs. The hardest core MMOs always have the lowest populations. Devs over the years have said tons of things on this subject, including some Guild Wars devs.
The most recent quote was from a lotro dev who claimed less than 10% of the population PvP and raided…not just recently but since inception. It’s not much different than many devs have claimed over the years. Maybe not exact percentages, but we’ve always had some idea that the hardest content is only finished by a small percentage of players.

The way I see it – grind is something you have to do – you have to get that best armor or weapon to progress.
Grind the way I see it is something you are forced to do in order to be able to progress further in the game.
With purely cosmetic rewards there’s no obligation to work for them unless you actually want them.
And why did you assume it’d be a grind?If you finish a run and get 5 tokens it’ll be relatively easy to get the weapon you want. And if you just want that 1 token it could be made very easy to get.
By your logic legendary weapons are also a grind because you have to work on them for a long time – yet they are in the game.
Same with dailies – you get 1 laurel each day by doing a few things. Is that grind? Is someone forcing you to do it?

You’re asking to repeat the same contents at least 60 times to get a rewards, so your are pretty much encouraging people to do the same content over and over to get to their goals. This is exactly the vocabulary definition of grinding.
Legendary weapons are not a grind because they don’t force you to do repetitive contents to get them.
The crafting materials are obtained everywhere, skill points are scattered anywhere in the game, globs of ectoplasm can be obtained in multiple ways. Even the dungeon badges can be obtained by either run the dungeon or doing PvP.
You can make a legendary countless ways and they are not at all the same content repeated over and over.Making a Legendary is a time sink. Your suggestion is grind.
Of course someone can do the champion train or running the same dungeons over and over to craft a legendary, but the game shouldn’t encourage anyone to do so.
So yes it is grind for cosmetic update , it is completly. ok you dont want grind content ? Dont do it , quick and easy go do non-grind content and enjoy it .

Why is it so hard to acknowledge that it’s only been 5 months since that patch and that programming takes actual time? During that time they were releasing in China which kept a lot of people busy as well.
There’s a perfectly logical explanation as to why a feature patch that had less time has less than a feature pack that had more.

What you have here is a good start, OP and I agree with your conclusions to a point. In fact, I’ve known all along that some people just want challenging content…like Liadri.
The issue becomes how many people are going to play that challenging content. This is where the rewards factor comes in.
Anet made a challenging dungeon, and it is challenging compared to other dungeons. I mean TA Aetherblade path is probably the hardest dungeon in the game. It’s not often run, because it’s not “rewarding”. And this is where the real problem starts.
In most MMOs, the harder content gives better rewards, which encourages people to do that content. Without the better rewards a lot of people simply won’t.
Which means those people aren’t doing hard content for fun, they’re doing hard content for rewards.
Rewarding hard content provides kitten and them situation. You get an upper class and an underclass in game.
The more you have of it, the more the new people and people who don’t really want to kill themselves to get a reward will feel disenfranchised…whether they’re wrong to feel that way or not.
This game works on a trickle theory. Everything you do trickles in. You get a trickle of rares and exotics, a trickle of tier six mats, a trickle of lodestones. Karma comes a bit faster and you can farm it, but at the end of the day, you’re not really going to be getting the “big” drops, because you can get drops anywhere.
What I’m trying to say is that if you make hard content you have to up the rewards and if you make that hard content rewarding, you run the risk of disenfranchising the casual player base, which I’m assuming is larger than the people who want hard content.
If you don’t make the rewards higher, then you have less people doing it and it becomes what TA Aetherblade Path is. A dungeon that took a long time to make but received only a little bit of use.
Put yourself in Anet’s place. If you make hard content and only a small percentage of the playerbase attempts it, or gets through it, would you keep making more hard content?
Casual playebase already has tones of casual content it is called gw2 pve . This should be normal that people who spend few hours mastering some really hard content should get better rewards instead of 2 blue 1 green
While i despise the idea of gear grind I have to say that this game does need more hardcore end-game content.
And the rewards should match the difficulty – I mean better rewards than other areas but most importantly exclusive rewards in the form of skins.
In a vanity-oriented skin-powered game we need more skins that say “I’m a super awesome and dedicated player” than just one set of weapons (Fractal Weapons).
We need things like UW/FOW in difficulty that come with skins that show off your achievements and also a better gold reward.
I’m not saying introduce more gear grind ( because I hate it too – and love that this game is not WoW 2.0) – but give people the chance to shine and be admired for their effort and skin!
But you will hear that players who dont do this special hardcore content dont get special rewards and it is unfair casue everone should have everthing . Community in this game is getting noobier everyday. When I saw people who wanted liadri mini in gem store because they couldnt kill true liadri , I just wanted to cry .
I think 90% of people dont understand word END-GAME , but also many people dont understand word RAID . When people hear these words they turn into whining auto-mode with same arguments no armor grind, casual game and bla bla bla .
What if I tell you that there can be some content without gear grind ?

Endgame is what people want to do after getting level 80 , they want some challenge and ability to show off but very often in non-hostile way like gold star next on UI.
Raids! why we cant have difficult missions for 8-10 players ?! With weekly reward time gate ,we already have that gate on dungs and nobody has problem with that . So why not raids with much higer possibility of exotic drop or even ascended chest as last boss reward .
But yh lets comeback to crying about endgame armor grind, we dont want it !! why we should get any new content lets come back to champ farm and enjoy our epic end game content which doesnt need improvments casue it is so good .
Let be serious talking that endgame starts at level 2 and you create your endgame is just stupid argument . You can say something like that in every game . You finished new COD in 4 hours and there is nothing to do on single player , did you try finishing game with screen turned off and without killing enemies ? no enjoy epic content for next 1000 hours . Only white knights cay say something like that but anyway who cares about end-game when we have true PVP LEGACY after gw1.
Maybe Anet servers should finally start working properly , it is lagging as hell since last living story . They said it was DDOS attack but this attack ended long time ago and servers are still lagigng .
Actually it really hurts that Anet cant develop so many easy fixes already suggested by community for example visible cursor cause in www/masive fight people lose it really often . And it was suggested actually after first month of the game .

It was supposed to be comedy movie but actually right now it is documentary movie about current society . People are getting more and more lazy just look at the games which we have right now and games in the past . In the past nobody cares do you understand how to play this game , you had to find tutorials in the internet or games magazines , you had to spend few hours learning game mechanics very often outside the game . And modern games are full of spaming one button,beeing immortal and watching explosions on the screen .
Gw right now has really really casual pve even my gf who plays only sims,lego games and fb games didnt have any problem understanding game mechanics . We should also answear the question does it make sense to spend time/money/resourses to rebuild system for player who bought this game for 40$ and quited after level five cause he didnt understand down-mechanic rly ? of course that anet should place down/transform skills to hero`s page to let us learn some skills without going to transform/downstate and spaming in say chat linked skills , but things like that should be in normal ballance patch in every month !
And now what ?! upset player who left gw2 after lvl5 come back because he heard they changed leveling system and what he got to level 9 and quit cause he didnt understand weapon swamp ? cause in his favourite mmo something like that didnt existed ?!
I also heard that they wanna add arrow which shows direction where to go o_0 rly ?! cause player cant click map and look where is he supposed to go ?! I can bet 100$ that there will be some people crying that arrow showed them go left , but on the left side there was wall ! and they didnt expected to go few meters further to enter through the gate to the city .
I said that many many times that leveling in gw2 was/is really quick and easy when you compare it to other mmos so I really dont get it why they spend their time rebuilding it instead of creating some end-game content I just dont get it .

I’m just trying to understand the problem. I play WvW more than I play EOTM, and when I -do- play EOTM I am almost always green. No snippy please.
I was not aware of new overflows being created when green hits cap (with red and blue not filled), but isn’t that the only option if new -green- players want to join a full map? They’d just have to add joining red and blue players to the previous map instance with the green cap, correct?
(If that isnt being done already, in which case it should be.)
i am also mostly wwwer but sometimes it is nice to go play brainless train without thinking . playing in eotm when you are not green just doesnt make sense . Green create 6 full maps and other sides got maybe 20 people on each map , skill doesnt matter when enemy just blob you with 3 times bigger numbers. Why they dont put people in every side doesnt matter what color your server is , just make eaqual numbers . there are no communities in eotm anyway .

Others friends started coming and we switched game , this story is based on true experience how returning player saw gw2 , so many update content that I had no idea what i am supposed to show him , we need true content which keeps players. I think most people play gw because they dont want to pay for other game but if it still makes you happy good for you , for me only www/pvp is still fun but with current lag spikes this fun ends very quick , precisely after first dc on www .
I like this game there are many good game modes,awesome combat(there should be more ground/direction targetable skills to make it more difficult) but for gods sake WE NEED PERMA CONTENT . First living story was for me one big chain of events and btw they are in other games too,but I liked it maybe because this game was still new for me . Second living story is just bad , it is good that they try to increase difficulty with bosses/enemies but it is full of instanced bla bla talking then facerolling keyboard bla bla talking o_0
For me this game since april patch didnt change at all , same thing everyday no new content/updates even ballance fixes o_0 thats why I preffer to spend 10 euro per month in dc universe then gw. I know that in dc ill get new dlc every 2 months(new raids,dungs,armor,missions for 2 ppl, new zone with daily quests etc etc ) and in gw ? nothing/null/zero , for some people maybe it is funny to run in circles spaming 1111 beeing in masive blob(dry tops) but for me 2 years after relase no no no

sry for mining this dead thread but some people said that it doesnt make sense to show www rank on UI because there is ktrain(eotm) and people there get so many ranks for pvd that eotm player will have higher rank then wwwers . Acctually I did small research and people in eotm dont have super high levels , actually true www have few times bigger rank then all pros from eotm . For 18 cmds which I met only 4 had both applied buffs(stren/vita),5 had only one buff and rest didnt have any .Lets dont talk about their cmd quality because it is one big joke but it is also train fault . It is really difficult to lead when only 5 people follow your tag and rest is spaming some range skills,building ac or who knows what they do . Train ranks probably are much much much worse . Most followers dont have any buff and when cmd drops siege they dont have mastery , even basic ones like ram master . It is really pathetic when in 60+ blob there are no people with cata/ram master o_0 probably mortar,canon,balista they have never seen in their wonderful www career .
I still think anet should reduce www xp by 25% in eotm but showing www rank still makes sense . (dont forget about pvp rank we need them too !!) And right now playing in eotm isnt that easy when you are green everything is fine but blue/red sry always outnumbered it looks like roaming vs blob . There isnt much loot ,xp for these sides .
PS commanders who took part in this study where leading for 1h+ I didnt count all 5 min heroes who bought tag and even cant lead ktrain.

I think this is not the best way to address your concern. I think the best solution would be build templates like in GW1 or an improved version.

But about templates and hotm bank I think Anet complicates everything too much .
Players asked for bank in hotm and instead of just placing it there , they start huge thread that there should be restrictions to it with (lvl,money glory) but nobody cares about it , there is access to banks via www or crafting station and only poor pvper are on lost position . they still dont have bank and they are asking for it since april update.
Same templates instead of giving us any templates they start talk about 3rd party softwer,linking it etc etc who cares ?! we just want any template , come on after 2 years we still dont have any .
thats why I suggested more fields+finishers on all chars and self blasting will affect in much shorter duration ,self boons<mate boons

- when you execute blast for example you get might for only 7 sec on yourself but for 15 sec on teammates

But to let this system work some classes like necro must get more fields+more finishers for example healing well would be water field.

Teamspeak should instal together with this game or should be build in .
I dont see any problem with wurm or kitten . My www guild together with another www guild do both bosses on weekend for loot/achies and casual activity . And it is working good maybe instead of crying that there are organised guilds try organise your own run ? You think that all theses guilds,tactics were created by itself ? It is a lot of work of some people to achieve community/guild like that .
Drop the game for 3-4 months and check in for the next feature pack.
They’re working on a new pvp mode, league system, build templates, precursor hunt/craft?, etc. If it’s not in this one, it might be in the next one.

Just because you do not want it dose not make it any lesser to add to the game. This week is about new players next week is about old players get over your self and wait for the full info until you go off.
Beyond that you CANT have things said in the forms during the update info and thing it will comply changes what they are adding these things have been in the work from the last big update like this and they are off of ppl views back then. The NEXT update will be about ppl views now this is just part of mmorpg.
Next week won’t be focusing only veteran players. It will just affect them. The point is – at this rate, they could at least be focusing on features that would be targeting every player, not just new players in general. Like i mentioned before, guild functions, wvw, spvp, those are all features that should be prioritized today, since most of the players are already passed the leveling phase.
some people already passed ranking phase !!! how many pvpers have rank 80 ?! how many people have www rank over 1500 or some time ago appeared first diamond legend !! We need updates to keep players playing not updates which makes people come back every 2 weeks for 2 hours .
yh I think we need option like GvG , let me show how i see that .
Every month guilds using influence/merits or any currency will sign up for Guild Battles .
It would elminate all small troll guilds created by 9 year old kids who wont fight in any battle becasue they dont have numbers,players etc.
They have to sign up separately for every gvg type 25vs25 , 40vs40 etc.
During signing up guild will chose time zones when they can play (they have to pick up min 3 or more for example they tick Monday 19-22) or match ups would be based on the most guild activity time .
After signing up you recieve schedule etc.
FIGHTS
it would be instanced version of this zone in obsidian sanctum maybe rebuilt a bit . People with special permision(like queue updates etc) will enter this zone and they will be able to send invites to chosen guild mates .
There will be 5 rounds . Round will end when one team is wiped or when they give up . There would be special button which appears when there is player ratio like 8vs2 .
Winners get guild commendetations or other currency .
There will be leaderbords with guild rating etc etc etc.

Just curious. I think this new patch, particularly the last bit, is REALLY important.
Because the community has been complaining about that for more than a year now and kept defending anet too. After almost 2 years, I’m starting to lose hope too.
The only important part of the patch MIGHT be the last one. Every other part of it was just welcomed additions but nothing that players actually asked for.
Players definitely 100% asked for better frame rates and performance at big events. They asked for account bound commander tags and colors. They asked for a better crafting UI.
In fact, most of the stuff in this patch was asked for along the way. I’m not really sure why you’d think otherwise.
The last page, yesterday, wasn’t asked for by long time players, but there have been plenty of complaints about how the game doesn’t teach you anything and even several large threads on tutorials.
the only problem is that those improvments should be done in first or second month after release not 2 years later ! and we still dont have perma content which we can play everyday .
So they shouldn’t be bothering with these improvements at all? Just because they’re overdue doesn’t mean it’s a waste of time to implement them.
Also, in general response to OP and most of the people complaining about the feature patch, it’s a FEATURE patch, not content. To sit there and say “why are you working on this instead of putting in new dungeons and maps?” is ridiculous. Most of what the veteran players want is not features, so yes, this update is not that interesting to us, but they have to know by now that we’re bored, and I’m sure they’ve been trying to figure out what to do about that for a while.
they should add features like that but come on , things like that should be updated every month without hyped announcements
-leveling in gw2 is one of the best and easiest levelings i have ever seen
-crafting 99% of people just level it to the max using google guide and even have no idea what they are doing then they craft one item and leave it 4ever because like in 99% of mmos crafting is useless and it is much easier to obtain better armor/weapon from other activities . The only exception is ascended armor but still after 2 daily crafts you already know what to do .
there are so many aspects which should be updated in this game and the worst thing is that most of them can be done by IT student for few beers in few hours (account-bound cmd tag with different colors 0_0 )
oh god pls we need improvements in pvp and restricting classes/build wont help it . First we need balance patches+new maps+game modes and then maybe some features . If you want to play LOL and ban champions go play LOL it is gw2 and it is called MMO not MOBA , right now my team and I have to wait 10 mins to find enemies on team queue and now what we are gona wait 30 min for single game ?!
I think we should have build templates(lets say 3 on our hud ) and we should be able to switch them when we are ooc . But we shouldnt be able to switch chars . I already switch my builds when I am roaming on www and it is great fun when you attack 5 people kill 2 then run away switch build and hit them even harder when they try to res ,so much fun and then you can see how many bad players play this game and only spam burst skills to nuke down enemy .

there should be tones of stuff in gem store skins/weapon skins/toys look at dc universe when you compare their market to ours it looks like gw is dead . where are new missions,dungs,events,raids,new maps,game modes,pvp/www updates ? i think I would preffer to spend 9 euro per 2 months and recieve some perma content then wait few years for any content
or maybe trait 25% boost when you have melee weapon , warrior can have it so why not guardian
Maybe lets get rid of downscaling and lets have upscaling so I dont see lvl 2 enemies but I see lvl81 enemies and i see my normal hp,normal dmg not some 1,5 crits on ac
There is golden rule DEAD=WP dont lie on the ground for 10 mins you are useless , on www you are losing fight , on pve you are scaling events and dont help

And all we need is NEW LVLING SYTEM hell yh I only have 5lvl20 scrolls,221 tomes and already have 4 chars on lvl 80 . People who starts playing dont care about it and they will level to 80 without your updates but they will stop playing like rest because there is no new content .
so you were learning skills INDIVIDUALLY ? on all my chars i just unlocked skills during one combat and then I was checking how they work dont expect ultimate skill knowledge from lvl15 new comer , he will learn how they work or he will be pressing 1111111 and then come to this forum to whine that content is too difficult and he cant 111111 anymore
