I read the title and happen to love torch as is, so was planning on posting about how good it is currently, but those ideas would make it so much more fun to use. Great ideas.

That video was pretty impressive. Clearly you’re a skilled player. I do wonder about the points in Inspiration though. Currently you get +200 condition damage when in scepter and 18s off the Veil CD. With Rabid gear and 20 pts in Dueling you get several things.

First of all, you get 100% uptime on Vigor. That will allow you to dodge twice and much, which arguably increases your survivability far more over the course of a fight than extra healing power and 200 vitality. Also, you would get to pick up Far-Reaching Manipulations or Desperate Decoy for more survivability.

Second, Sharper Images would be a huge DPS boost. I know that you say you need to sustain, and I think that is true for any condition mesmer. However, do keep in mind that the more quickly you can kill enemies, the less damage you will have to worry about coming in.

Finally, Deceptive Evasion seems like it could benefit you. You have both Crippling and Debilitating Dissipation. Having more clones popping out means that you get more cripple, weakness, and bleeding spread across the packs of people chasing you. Also, it works very well with Sharper Images.

I’m not suggesting that your build is wrong or that you should listen to my suggestions. I’d just genuinely like to know what you think about what I’ve said above and explain in more detail why you chose Inspiration over Dueling.

I find it hard to not go 20 in inspiration because of the lack of condition gear with vitality the added bonus of healing and scepter cds make it too good for me to pass up.

As far as desperate decoy goes I personally can’t stand the ability I prefer on use skills over a proc that can get me stuck in revealed when I am under 25%.

Deceptive evasion is another skill that looks really good on paper but when I have tried it with a stealth build I have always found it more annoying than anything. If you notice in my video I use dodge rolls a lot while stealthed to create distances or gap close to my enemies and the clone on dodge gives your position away.

Those are both just personal preferences but I really haven’t found any issues with my damage being too low so far.

I have 0 issues applying enough conditions make use of geomancy and doom sigils to help keep up pressure by adding even more conditions.

However, Scepter is still in a strange place. With another condition and condition damage added to Malicious Sorcery trait, it’s time take the plunge and scrap Ether Bolt.

Problems with Ether Bolt chain:

• power scaling, unlike rest of weapon
• clones are too frequent in PVE (can’t even shatter them all)
• clones are unreliable in sPVP (hard to get 3rd skill chain off)
• clones’ attacks do nothing (unlike sword and staff)
• doesn’t scale with weapon/illusion recharge reduction traits (lackluster compared to other clone skills late game)

Suggestions:

• nerf Confusing Images and move it to Scepter #1
• remove clone from Illusionary Counter
• bring back GW1’s Illusion of Weakness
• or GW2 style: “Create a clone with low hp that runs the direction you’re facing. If this clone is killed, enemy is inflicted with Torment.”

MOAR MINDGAMES! That’s the true fun of mesmer. Imagine Illusion of Weakness with Decoy or The Prestige!

Scepter is amazing atm I run it in power and condition builds. Any changes to make it stronger are unwarranted and would make mesmer even more op than it currently is.

Yea I was roamin with westibone in a duo roam yesterday. The damage is amazing but I find though that the scepter block is really hard to land due to it needing to block xD meaning its hard to focus down a target. so I think in a 1v1 this spec is op as hell, but that torment is hard to land on your focus target. But that’s from my prespective with s/s.

In 1vx as condition I usually just swap focus to whoever eats my Torment no matter how low the other target is.

I would think Precision would be better then Healing Power, How much do your heals heal you for?

My regen ticks for 269 this build is designed for fighting 4+ people at a time precision is wasted in 1vx fights need sustain over a tiny increase in damage.

Interesting idea. I had a similar build though i was 15/0/30/25/0, I was using Full Rabid gear. Since then i have moved to a GSCondition build which i am finding a lot better.

I got tired of facerolling phantasm builds so I decided to try out the 2 least used weapons scepter and torch. Playing with scepter and torch is so much more rewarding than phantasms I will never go back to them.

The build is pretty basic on traits there are a few variations that can be made but I have found this to be the most effective.

For heal and utilities I run Ether Feast, Veil, Decoy, Blink, and Mass Invisibility

I run full apothecary gear since I made this build for 1vx fights.
For runes I always run Melandru on every set on every character they are too good not to use for any spec.

Consumables are Pizza and Tuning Crystals

Sigils are crucial to this build.

Staff – Superior sigil of Geomancy
Scepter/Torch – Superior sigil of Doom and Superior sigil of Corruption

The key to maximizing this build is setting up torch burst combos. I open fights with scepter 3 then try and land a block with 2 followed by 4, then closing in on the target and casting 5 to gain the Retaliation. If you can’t run up to your target use Blink to get on top of them to land Prestige’s burning as this goes off you swap to staff which applies 3 bleeds and drop Chaos Storm which stacks a lot of invuln from the minor traits in Domination and adds more conditions to cover the burning and bleeds. Phase Retreat out. Swap back to Scepter and reapply confusion with 3 which also applies Poison because of Doom sigil.

This combo does a lot of damage and stacks so many conditions instantly that people often panic.

The main strength of this build is having access to every damaging condition in game. Along with constant stealthing and near 100% uptime of regeneration and protection.

The only weakness I have found was against really well played phantasm mesmers can be hard fight because of the phantasms never dropping target when you stealth and not being able to land Illusionary Counter on the mesmer because of all the clones and phantasms hitting you.

Added a link to video its poor quality because my comp lags hard when recording, I also uploaded without any music because only thing I had access to on this comp is not age appropriate for a lot of people who may watch. This shows off a typical fight as condition mesmer 1vx

I have found that consistently win 1vx fights your best bet is scepter/torch and staff. I run 2 very similar builds for condition and power 20 0 30 20 0 with just different trait choices.

In my opinion the torch is the best offhand you can get, traited its insanely good. People often think it is a low dps offhand but by using the prestige burn and instant damage combined with a staff phantasm in a power build followed by a shatter I get 8-10k damage off within a second of coming out of stealth while still running 3100 armor.

If you want the easiest to play go a phantasm build, but I found with phantasm builds I actually became a worse player from the lack of any actually challenge to the playstyle.

I was planning on making a post about my condition build when I finish gearing it. Hopefully I will make one with a video showing my combinations this weekend.

I have some poor quality footage I uploaded because of numerous people accusing me of hacking on forums and in /w that shows a little of the play style. This was recorded in the first 2 hours after buying a torch and making the build. I later changed some of the gear to up my damage a bit but this shows off a lot of 1vx with numerous downs and stomps including a lot of 1vx in their camp.

Yes I did. If you look at the hits he does on me you’ll see he does very low damage for a glass cannon thief. I was messing around with a super tanky support build used for larger groups that focuses on reflecting projectiles and retaliation uptime, definitely not a 1v1 spec build. He got me that time, everyone loses now and then. :P

Also, reading his description I’m starting to come to this conclusion: SPCA have been disrespecting ADQQSTY on the forums because I tea bagged Tievospy.

@Oozo: No one in my guild said we only run “5 mans” ever. Most of us don’t even have group builds. We also don’t have any rules about not following zergs/ letting pugs follow us. I don’t even think anyone in our guild except Kevin has said anything but jokes about your numbers and he doesn’t even run the tag. Stop lumping every guild that has the same playstyle as someone else into their insults. Also, for those videos where you try to make fun of us for not fighting you/ losing to you with “even numbers” when over half of them are pugs, pugs are pretty much useless in even fights with good players. Get over it. At the moment, no one really wants to organize with 10+ roamers so they’re probably annoyed at never getting good fights. I think I’ve had maybe 2 against your guilds since this matchup started and they were fun as hell.

Here is the problem. When we are called zerging trash by people who wear the same guildtags as people we see when we are fighting 5v15 it bothers me. I have no problem with them being in the fight.

I have a problem with the dishonesty, disrespect, and hypocrisy.

I think the problem here is you. Stop giving a kitten about what people are saying about a game and the drama ends. Responding to goading is the exact response people are looking for. I don’t want to troll but when people like you rage on forums I feel obligated to keep them raging.

We have some people in AD that do immature things I don’t approve of, such as teabagging and emoting but you have some people who send hate tells whenever they lose a fight.

I’ve done nothing but compliment you on your gameplay. You’ve done nothing but complain about getting zerged when you lose and bragging about the times when you’ve won.

Noone wants SF in this tier they don’t belong here that is clear. To claim it is because of skill like is so commonly stated on forums is not accurate. Tiers are set almost entirely by server wvw populations. What we are asking is that if you so wish to have a real fight like you claim beat us down more and get on to tier 6.

lol. Cool story. I got one too. XOXO and PAXA had an impromptu 5v5 inbetween ruins and the bridge which had large amount of spectators from both servers for the fight. XOXO won without having a single player downed. Of course PAXA cried about how we only won because our group was Mesmers and Thieves. You would think with PAXA’s 10 years of expertise building “balanced groups” they could figure out how to beat a group with 5 “OP” classes ran by bad players.

Never have I denied losing that 5v5 to you guys. Hasn’t happened since. What has happened since is the increase in numbers taken to kill us. MoB and Os got it down, just like ALS did…. "it’s PAXA! Zerg em down boys! (and lady wtf?)

So with even numbers we beat you and you admit this but now claim that we zerg you down because we lack the skill to fight even numbers? Am I missing something here?

Let me lay it out there for ya big fella, an XOXO 5 man (4 mesmers and a theif) fought us for 15 minutes on the island. You beat us. Hats off. H a s N o t H a p p e n e d since. If you want us to repost the video we have of 6 PAXA taking on upwards of 15 and being AJed by an XOXO group and downing you after as well we can do that. It’s amazing how all these people come out of the woodworks with pictures and stories of you trolls running into “backup” Zergs and towers to avoid actually fighting…. Like a good friend of mine once said, “you can stick with My little pony”.

A few of us got tired of fighting 30-40 man zergs over the last week and started playing alts and helping our server more by taking towers. The fact that you believe we should quit the game because of how we are enjoying it currently is ridiculous.

They’re stand up players using combinations of built classes and skill to fight the same thing you guys fight. Except, they kill more, and don’t use the XOXO Mesmer build all 15 of you use.

4 ports group stealth ect ect ect…. Play real classes that require more than a “break stun and port 404948574 miles away” get some fair fights under your belt, won using real talent, and then people will recognize you more for being solid players, than what you have demonstrated here.

Too funny since none of our mesmers use the same build and currently most of us are not playing our mesmers.

At least you are realizing playing bunker “get away at all cost” builds aren’t that rewarding when you can’t actually kill anyone, you just dodge roll dodge roll port port port until their bored or get run over by a Zerg.

So the new line is XOXO can’t kill anyone they just build bunker and run? Interesting perhaps running tanky builds is needed when we don’t have support builds supplying cc and boons and allowing us to run a gc.

I personally prefer tanky builds on all my classes because it allows me to outplay someone in a fight as opposed to 1 sec gibs.

I really enjoy the run and waypoint strategy they use. If you want to talk about fair fights we had our 2v2 duel awhile back where we roflstomped along with 1v1 duels where Andromeda and myself both kitten on your mes and ele. Then the following day you join our group and claim that you won the duels and we called in a zerg to kill you. You are a little delusional.

At this point in time the only KoM member that has my respect is the asura thief he fights against bad odds all the time and makes a good show. I think I will start recording you ride the lightning and waypoint, will make a good montage.

You can continuously lie all you want in order to maintain your e-rep or whatever is you are trying to accomplish, but at the end of the day, I can remember when both of you started insulting us and then shortly after losing an even numbers fight, only to run away and not challenge us again.

In case you care, I would respect you if you came back after losing and said “good fight, let’s do it again” at which point you would try a different tactic to win. But until your main tactic is trash talking and coming back with more, instead of winning due to you trying to better yourself, you are nothing more than zerglets.

That 4v4 was a stealth rush on 4 of us waiting to watch a duel with a friend from a different server. You don’t remember the fair duels we set up? If you are the ele then you may remember me at 100% you downed. Probably not though since you are clearly delusional.

A stealth rush on 4 mesmers who all fought back right away. We also didn’t get the first mesmer down until 30 seconds into the fight, which indicates that we didn’t simply blow everyone up, right off the bat. Stop making excuses for your losses and take it like a man.

Also, nice try at posturing, but that was another ele. You can CLEARLY tell us apart as I am the sexy-cute ele and the other asura ele is pretty ugly. In fact, you should be able to tell me apart from all other Asura, as mine are always sexy-cute and the others, especially males are generally ugly.
