Just some general advice for saving up money from a guy who doesn’t enjoy playing the TP:
-set yourself a self-banker policy. If I put 1g in my bank, that gold does not leave the bank until I have enough gold to buy what I need. Every character I have puts 1g into the bank every time they break 1g10s. It doesn’t build up quickly, but it is steady when I’m actively running dungeons.
-Don’t craft level 80 Exotic/Rare gear or buy it directly from the TP. Masterwork gear works fine for most dungeons as long as you know the fights. Just to farm the appropriate dungeon for the gear you want, and use dungeon tokens to gear up. You save 10-15g on Armor/Weapons this way, but also gain 5-10g just from drops and dungeon rewards, which will cover your accessories and then some.
-run CoF. Just do path 1 and 2 once a day if you can. Heck, if you’re up to it run HotW path 1 too. Purchase the rare gear with tokens and then salvage the rare gear for ectos. Every run will get you two rares to salvage.
-Actually play when you are at your computer. Don’t jump around Lion’s Arch (as much fun as that is), don’t browse forums. Play. Join PUGs for Explorables. Most PUGs can get through AC and CoF without any problem, and most people looking for CM/TA/SE/HotW have experience in those dungeons already. Just play.
I only have ~15g at the moment, because I have been working on my Legendary. You heard me right. I get money from dungeons and having fun. I already have my Mystic Clovers (they’re horrible, get them out of the way…), and most of my t6 mats. My next goal is to save up for my precursor.
The game gives you money for playing. That’s why everything is expensive: because players have the gold to spend on things.

I’m ecstatic at the recent surge of survival Rangers, since I’ve played one for ages.
I still feel that 0/0/30/25/15 is hard to beat. 25% boon duration is massive and should not be underestimated. Bountiful Hunter and Two-Handed Training also yield a flat 10% damage increase, rather than the ~120 Power (assuming you’re in Healing Power Gear).
I run PTV Armor/Weapons with Dolyak Runes and Knight’s Accessories, along with a Greatsword primary weapon supplemented by an Axe/Horn combo.
3k attack
22k hp
3.2k armor
Most Survival builds rely heavily on Healing Spring for their durability, I prefer raw Toughness.
I’m beefier and do more damage. The difference is I don’t have Healing Spring supplemented by 1200 Healing Power, which is the main reason why Survival Rangers have become popular as of late.

Darkhaven put up 1 hell of a fight today… We at one point managed to past DB in ppt…didnt last long but we did it!! >:O honestly though…i have been on almost all day. -.- not good for me. lol
Sure did. My guild had several parties in vent for like four hours pushing for our Keep and the nearby towers. Clever Treb positioning helped us siege DB out, even though they outnumbered us 3 to 1.
In the end we took back our entire third of EB, and managed to press the pressure into some BP and DB towers.
Today’s fight helped spark some more serious WvW interest in Jaded.

I’ve run into an interesting issue. I can’t dye the blue light effects on the glove and shoulder of the light t1 Asuran armor. It’s stuck on the Midnight Blue.
I’ve tried exiting to desktop a number of times.
Is this a known issue? Is there a work-around?

Coding-wise I suspect it’s because breaking stealth requires to land a blow, and Aegis, similarly to blind, prevents a hit entirely.

- Defensive pet skills are kind of silly, as the delay is super long (Howls). Skills that affect the player require the pet to be near, like fern hound or moa, to provide their benefits.
You make a lot of solid points, particularly in regards to condition removal.
But howls are quick to activate if done immediately after pet swap.

It’s not that we lack good utility skills, it’s just that we have two that are so incredibly godlike that they should be on 99% of Ranger bars.
I’m looking at you, Lighting Reflexes and Quickening Zepher.
It would take a very very very large buff for our other Utilities for me to even consider dropping either of those two skills. Even then, I’d think twice.
Jaded.boards.net – Your future home
Just a small aside:
A profession sacrifices damage when they build defensive stats. The Ranger only sacrifices a percentage of that, due to the inherit damage built into our pets.
In a way, we have the smallest cost of building ‘bunkery’.

I started running this build recently after mistakenly rolling a thief alt—it’s totally breathed new life into my enjoyment of the class, and it’s pretty beastly.*
*In PvE. I could not care less about WvW or sPvP as it stands now.
I’m glad you enjoy it.

I’ve recently finished my whole set of Berserker’s gear, and have still been unable to make up my mind about my rune choice.
I understand that Divinity is likely the best choice, but I’m also looking at alternatives (which are not 7g a pop).
A much cheaper one I’ve been looking at is Rune of the Flame Legion, as it has a large amount of power, burning duration, and 5% boost to burning foes.
I hear people mention Ruby Orbs occasionally for raw DPS, but I was under the impression that a percent damage boost would offset any raw Orb stats? Is there a place for Ruby Orbs other than simply being cheap?
Thoughts?

This build has a very similar playstyle to the one I use. I have done some experimentation with a 0/030/10/30 Clerics build as well, but have found my over all durability and utility to be lower than that of my regular 0/0/30/25/15 Soldiers build.
Your mileage may vary.
Greatsword is terrible against anyone with stability or a way around the block…
Outright terrible… its like a low dps, low mobility version of warrior greatsword then…I dunno, I just don’t like weapons so easily hard countered with only marginal gain otherwise :/
My choice in weapons doesn’t invalidate the build. Weapons are variable and can be adjusted according to preference.
I find the Greatsword to be great for longer conflicts, which is what most ‘bunkery’ builds look for. The incredible CC aside (which have lower cooldowns than most Stability granting abilities), it has high evasion up-time just from the auto attack.

In SPvP I swap out the Axe/Warhorn for a Shortbow, giving me: two knockdown (Canines), a knockback (Greatsword block), a fear (wolf), and two dazes/stuns (Greatsword and Shortbow #5). It’s truly an attrition build, and I win most of my skirmishes by interrupting my enemy’s heal.
Your mileage may vary.

Ruby orbs are cheap, that’s about it.
That’s what he said. The price:damage ratio is hard to beat with Ruby Orbs.
As a whole, I’d tend to agree, but you will see a damage increase if you shell out the cash for runes.

From a pvp perspective, burst damage is far more important than consistent damage over time.
Let’s say class A can hit for 20,000 in one shot, the follow up with normal attacks of 100 damage/hit, it’s that big, burst attack that’s interesting, and what’s going to count. If class B is hitting for 1,000 damage/hit and have no real burst ability, they’re eventually going to land on the same dps within a set amount of time (if the cooldown on the burst ability for class A is balanced enough).
If you can use an attack every second, it would look like this between class A (burst) and class B:
1 second:
A: 20,000 dps
B: 1,000 dps10 seconds:
A: 2,090 dps
B: 1,000 dps20 seconds:
A: 1,095 dps
B: 1,000 dps60 seconds:
A: ~431 dps
B: 1,000 dpsSo, imho, burst damage is far, far superior and much more important in pvp, compared to regular measurements of dps.
Vs a big boss mob in pve with millions of hp, that’s a whole other story. For that, you’d want as high dps as possible.
I understand what you’re saying, but burst attacks can be dodged.
Sustained DPS doesn’t suffer as much from your opponent dodging one or two key attacks, because there aren’t really any ‘key’ attacks.

My tips:
-Putting 5 from Nature Magic into Beastmastery will really benefit you.
-I don’t like your rune choices.
-If you insist on taking a Bear, the Fern Mastiff would probably be better served as a Wolf.
-if you you take a bear, you don’t really need Signet of Renewal
-Lightning Reflexes is a better stunbreaker than Signet of Renewal
-Signet of Stone is the “cool” thing to do, but “Protect Me!” will give you a higher uptime on being invulnerable
Overall, I just really dislike the Marksmanship tree. The traits are not strong, and even Signet of the Beastmaster is a mediocre trait, because you can do better things with non-signets.
