Is there any reason that hot-join PvP is set up for 8v8 rather than TPvP’s 5v5?
It doesn’t let newer players practice for the preset roles of 5v5 PvP, and just encourages zerging.
If I wanted to zerg, I’d go to WvW.

I have no intention of giving my Ranger up.
At the end of the day, the classes are relatively balanced. There are nuances to each class that people have a distaste for. Specifically with the Ranger, people hate dealing with the Pet’s AI and how it takes up 30-40% of their damage, resulting in never being able to land “leet deeps”.
The professions are flavor-based. I like the flavor of the Ranger, and I make it work the way I want it to.
90% of the time I’m the most durable member of my party in explorables. Feels good.

We are still recruiting.

-Ranger damage globally decreased by 5%
-Ranger pet damage globally increased by 10%

I run 0/0/30/25/15, and wear Power/Toughness/Vitality Gear, with Knights Accessories.
The Greatsword has a couple of things that Sword/Dagger doesn’t have.:
-massive amounts of evade while in quickness
-a huge gap closer
-a block/knockdown (or a cripple, but the knockdown is too good)
-a daze/stun
While the Greatsword may not be for you, here’s a link to my guide. Specifically, you may find some of my stat discussion interesting as a melee Ranger, even if you decide to stick with Sword/Dagger.

It’s amusing, because I consider Thieves to be the least threatening profession for me.

I’m a huge fan of Troll Unguent. Even in dungeons. There’s nothing quite like popping it, and then tanking some AoE’s to rally an ally.

I’ll bite.
The sword is a weapon designed to supplement fighting up with your pet. You’ll notice it has a cripple while also granting might to your pet.
Use a Bird or a Feline with the 1h sword, as long with the Skirmishing trait that increases your pet’s critical damage by 30%, and watch as they shred your opponent. Toss in a Warhorn as your offhand, and give your pet more might, swiftness, and Fury (20% more critical chance!).
Trait-wise, you’ll want some in Skirmishing, lots in Beastmaster, with your leftover going into a mix of trees.

Updated the first post to reflect the fact that we have perpetual guild Magic Find and Experience boost.
Jaded.boards.net – Your future home
Because it’s the best block ability in the game.
The knock back is significant, and the range on the cripple is far enough that if you get CC’d and your opponent is fleeing, you can cripple them.

Certain skills have great pet synergy.
Sword #1
Greatsword #5
Shortbow #4
etc

It is my opinion that, in order to fully enjoy pet-based classes, you have to start whatever game it is by playing a pet-based class.
Even if the game has flawless pet controls, they will be awkward to learn if you’re already used to controlling one character.
That being said, trying can’t hurt, and I love my Ranger, so I say go for it.
Jaded.boards.net – Your future home
As much as I love my Ranger, if you’re a serious SPvPer, you would be better off playing the FotM professions.

I use Runes of the Dolyak.
~23k hp
~2900 attack
~3000 armor
~20% crit
~100 hp regen per second from Dolyak and Sigil of the Wild

It honestly depends on a lot of things. Are you using traits that proc on critical hit? Do you have a large amount of Critical Damage?
As a general rule, Force will give a more consistent damage increase.
Think of it this way, in 100 hits, you will crit ~5 more times with Accuracy, but you will get a 5% damage flat increase with force. With Fury up, you’ll surpass 70% crit rate, which means you’ll be critting fairly consistently. The next step is to do the math based on your Critical damage.
Pasted from the wiki:
Expected damage = Base damage * (1 + (0.50 + (Critical damage / 100)) * Critical chance)

I play a Greatsword and Axe/Warhorn primarily, and have had great success in Explroable Dungeons with my build.
Some specific things to remember about explorables are:
-dead characters deal no damage
-dropping to the downed state not only lower’s the damage of your allies who have to rally you, but can also put them in danger depending on the situation
-it’s important to support your allies more than simply doing “leet damage”
As a general rule, I don’t recommend doing Explorables in full glass cannon gear, whether it’s Berserker or Rampagers.
Knights, Carrion, Valkyrie and the luxurious Power/Toughness/Vitality set are all good sets for dungeons depending on your weapon sets, class, and traits.
If what I’m saying is making sense, and you like the idea of, not only using a using a Ranger as a durable Team-Supporter in Explorables, but also while using a Greatsword and being awesome, check out my guide for more in-depth analysis.

Are rangers in really as bad of shape as they're being made out to be?
in Ranger
Posted by: Vecuu.2018
Now that the Shortbow has been nerfed, Rangers can no longer truly complain about having limited weapon options. Furthermore, each weapon as a Ranger has a truly different feel to it in combat.
If you’re having fun, don’t complain
Which, in fact, is why there are mostly complain threads on the forums. Vocal minority drowing out the majority.

My take on Greatsword Rangers:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/66729-how-to-be-a-great-greatsword-ranger/
Please note that is was written with PvE in mind primarily, but I have had solid success in casual SPvP with it. Specific changes to note about SPvP is that I pair up the Greatsword with a Shortbow (instead of my Axe/Horn for PvE) and two Canines, focusing on wearing down opponents to about half health, then swapping pets, at which point the new Canine will knock them down, I pop Zepher, and proceed to Daze their much needed heal with one weapon, then swap to the other weapon and do the same. Double knockdown. Double daze.
Pretty deadly.

What on earth happened? I was going through my crafting mats to make some cash, and, to my surprise, all wood had gone up in price by about 5 or 6 times what they were.
Any insight as to why the spike?

This is such a low priority thing that I suspect my post will get melted by the weight of everybody else’s suggestions.
Basically, I think we should be able to toggle through our characters at character selection via the arrow keys. It’s in a lot of other MMOs (GW1 too if I’m not mistaken), and I prefer to almost exclusively log in this way, so I suspect others are the same way.
Yup, that’s it. Not important, but I can’t be heard if I don’t speak.
Thank you for your time.

I see many people trying to compare the damage of a Ranger to other professions, complaining how “it’s not fair” that our skills do less damage overall.
Do people forget about the damage their pets do?
I understand that in PvP melee pets can be unhelpful against a mobile opponent, but we have plenty of options to counteract that, including using ranged pets, or LoSing ranged opponents so that they have to come fight us in melee, where our pets can more reliably hit their target. We also have the highest Quickness uptime of any profession, which, by the way, affects us and our pets.
Are people stuck in the mantra of “a dead pet does no damage”? Do they forget about their f1-f4 skills?
I don’t fully understand the complaints about our damage, frankly.

No,the solution is to fix animations glitch and big asura heads
Milk just came out my nose.
That patch was silly.

Well…
With 2100 armor, defensive traits, 18K hps I just got hit with a 4,568 steal, 7,407 C&D, followed by a 10,759 BS.
snip
Those defensive stats are not very high.
Besides, like it’s been said in this thread previously, if this is happening in WvW, there are a couple of stat multipliers that you need account for.
But seriously. If you want to defeat glass cannons, build more defensive gear. There’s a reason Badges of Honor purchase Power/Toughness/Vitality gear.

It was obvious before the nerf that the actual attack animation didn’t match up with the sound. It’s like when you’re behind a car at a red light and you notice how both of your turnsignals will sync up briefly, then quickly jump out of beat with one another.
They fixed that.
They didn’t anticipate their fix to create another issue while under the effect of quickness. Take off the tinfoil hats. ANet isn’t “out to get” Rangers. Sometimes changing one thing in the coding affects something that you didn’t anticipate.

That’s not very cool.
I would have liked those shoulders.
Jaded.boards.net – Your future home
I’ve spent the past hour scouring the internet to find a way to obtain an equivalent PvE match to the following medium shoulders:

I’m close to giving up, which sucks, because I love the look of the shoulders.
Anybody know how to get them?

Thank you for this post. GW2 players tend to use ‘Ranger’ as a misnomer for ‘one who attacks at a range’, which is untrue.
Good post.

I too have noticed my downed #3 not fully activating of late. Strongfort’s description is quite accurate.

No. I love my Ranger.
Just have to, you know, like the idea of pets.

This is actually a fair question.
What good is banning a bot if his order for selling 10,000 of an item drives prices down to a point that they’d have to power past his listing to return to normal? Compound this by a thousand bots all undercutting each other, and you find yourself in a situation where banned accounts are essentially putting up roadblocks to a balanced economy.
A good question, and one I would like an answer to.
Jaded.boards.net – Your future home
It most certainly isn’t just you. I suspect there are many Guild Leaders facing these issues.
Jaded.boards.net – Your future home
Even if people are repping, there’s no easy way to pass information on to your members.
The guild message should really be displayed upon log-in based on the guild you’re repping, and if you stand down, when you rep a new guild that guild’s message should be displayed.
