Who says you need to swap servers Virtue? Just fight against Dragonbrand after the 9th (or whenever this patch hits).

I would have to transfer to do that any time soon.

After we stare at each other throwing these god forsaken trick grenades at each other for 2 hours we can pvdoor and see who wins.

If you think that scenario won’t happen ask this question: What happens when you give 40 clueless players a device which can quickly drain supply and provides a godly overpowered counter to siege? What happens when you put those 40 guys behind a gate that a zerg is attacking?

Take 40 more clueless players getting attacked by arrow carts. What will happen to your zerg’s supply? (gone that’s what). You have no supply for inner. They have no supply to defend with. It’s all pvdoor. It’s no strategy.

The new meta will be minion master zergs because that would be the only way to quickly flip a tower. I watched a 20 man MM zerg rip through a paper gate like we had 2 sup rams on it.

This would be hilarious. I hope it plays out that way for some people. Could be inspiring.

Imagine what guild halls would cost if they ever released them.

The NPC unlocks were a massive grind in GW1 guild halls system, but it could be done collaboratively. In GW2, everything tends to be gem stored and/or account bound. Whatever happens there, it won’t be fun.

However, ANet employees will be “extremely excited” to announce it!

we don’t know until the community decides what/which each color will be used for and that won’t happen until they are in the game and folks have time to use them.

And that won’t happen as a game-wide or server-wide phenomenon. Alternate colors will be unevenly and unreliably distributed. You’re not going to tell my commander that he can’t do a Red Commander job because he hasn’t paid for Red Commander icon.

Personally, I’ll only acknowledge a blue commander, anyway. I won’t respect the others.

I don’t see how that could be used differently than:
-defenders will throw these things ad vitam aeternam (or rather ad copiam licendam) to prevent anything but zergs on the gate.
-attackers will throw these things to prevent anything but zergs to protect the keeps/towers.

Improvements have their place in the game, but they should come once broken things are fixed (or, but that’s just me, when we’ll have all the things promised so far, or also more than 2 useful skills per profession).

How do you claim that this breaks a game that you don’t know how to play?

I and my fellow piken square commanders are discussing the colours at the moment and how we should tell our pugs to respond to them. I am keen to use red, for example, for havoc team small unit tactics, whereby a small group is hastily assembled, does a critical job and then disbands.

Of course, there is no point us making “server strategy” for a colour of tag when most of our commanders wont have one, due to the cost. Additionally, if I did, say, buy a red tag, then I would be stuck doing that and would be unable to take another role as I wouldn’t have the other colour (eg emergency defence or guild raid).

A good chunk of us have played since beta and aren’t running around with legendaries, because we don’t find precursors and we get terrible income from wvw. Putting this sort of a barrier on the tags is beyond my comprehension and completely wrecks what should be a good thing for our gamestyle.

Don’t bother.

Blue is the only commander color I recognize.

So, people have been complaining about how strong siege is and how everything in WvW is tied to using siege.
Now ArenaNet comes up with a way to change or at least disturb that meta, and now it is suddenly the worse idea ever to limit siege?

No. There is no pleasing people, when “people” includes all of them. There have always been people on both sides of this and any other argument.

They don’t think of the abuse that any one thing can be used for before presenting it to the vipers who will abuse them.

What a pity.

I am going to use this trick item A LOT: as often as possible. I will make my use of it as inconvenient to opponents as I can. I alone will burn an entire keep supply depot through disabler use.

This in my mind balances this trick out IMO.

With a 450 radius you can probably just toss these at the gate from inside and disable all Flame Rams. Even if you couldn’t do this, the largest Projectile Blocker is Swirling Winds which is a 400 radius which is not big enough.

Catapult siege bubble is already being used to defend trebuchets, in positions where the catapults’ only purpose is the defensive siege bubble rotation.

The fact that siege disabler can be thrown at the edge of swirling winds’ radius is a fact of gameplay, where it becomes important to know that fact and apply it. That is not a problem to be fixed. It is knowledge to be used.

Is there some sort of internal cooldown on siege before they can be disabled again, or can you just chain disable them forever if you have a steady stream of supply and people with grenades?

Skill cooldown works that way, yes.

The Siege Disabler cooldown for each individual is equal to the time required to resupply.

Charging for commander colors as if they were vanity dyes is ridiculous nonsense that will cause some people to leave the game, and cause all commanders to perform beneath their potential (up do and including people never becoming commanders at all).

Nearly everyone (hundreds of people) that I played with in 2012-2013 has left GW2 because WvW didn’t receive the resources that Living Story did, and Living Story wasn’t at all interesting and exciting and compelling and adjectives and hype to them.

Is this for real? Sounds like if you have fewer defenders than attackers, you’ll always lose your gates/walls.

Before that judgement, we need to know usage cooldown times, and then see what player creativity does with it.

We also need to know if the skill effect is limited by player skill target counting (typically 5 to 10 targets) or siege target limits (typically 50).

Just remember, guys. You heard it here first. Players asking for some sort of trap that affects siege. Do you want a trap that destroys your siege (like retaliation) or disables it momentarily? I hope there’s some sort of debuff at least so that the disablement trap can’t be spammed on siege already disabled.

No you can’t. Traps can’t be laid under stealth, and I dare anyone to stand in the middle of a zerg for 10 seconds and lay a trap. It’s simply not possible.

Laying a trap is not as simple as people think. What this will do is delay the attackers 45 or 20 seconds. That’s a good thing to promote defense/allow time to set up defense.

When supply traps were novel and new, I absolutely did make a habit of placing them in dangerous locations mid-combat. I did this on non-stealth classes, including ele, necro, and warrior. It’s not only possible; It’s hilarious.

As a trick (rather than a trap), what this means is that the trick will be consumed exactly the same as a siege blueprint. The trick will replace your weapon skill bar with its own skills (deploy, and possibly a cancel to put it back in inventory). The Deploy skill will use the ground-targeting UI, the same as siege weapon blueprints do. It will have a 1200 unit range.

Players will use it as a ground-targeted skill which they can throw arbitrarily, anywhere on the map, in any situation, so long as they have line of sight and range to the target location, and are carrying the needed supplies.

A player with full Supply Mastery, taking from a supply depot that has the guild supply capacity buff, will carry 20 supply and be able to use the trick twice before resupplying.

The WvW community can be a hostile place but look at how hard they have to fight for features against the intentions of some of the designers.

That’s really the crux of the majority of Player vs Developer complaint threads here. The players are aiming their complaints at the ArenaNet brand, but it is actually the business managers and (most probably) NCSoft with whom they really disagree so heatedly.

The “developers” in the game creation studio are gamers, too. The business decision makers tend not to be.

What matter is that its a tool, not a cosmetic enhancement. Anet doesnt charge anything for PvE tools and has implemented complex new ones at no charge to PvE players.

And then they do this.

I agree, except that the person does matter. It’s the same as preferring a skilled craftsman in using any other tool. The results are better when skill and attitude are correct.

Yes, I believe that this is true, and I also believe that the early verbal announcement of the feature is one of: testing those waters before the blog post is scheduled to release (in case of a pending business decision to revise or cancel it) or a dissenting voice at ANet letting it slip in hopes of the former.

At least they are giving warning of the large price increase. While a few will get a nice gold bonus. The idea of getting it cheaper now makes me want to buy it but the commander tag is just a icon and does nothing.

Example of the kind of player that we don’t want commanding WvW. Sorry, that’s just not the right attitude for it.

Well, let’s break it down nice and easy if any devs actually read this and care.

1. WvW should not be pay-to-command in the first place. The commander icon should be something you eventually earn through playing WvW. Anymore on most servers, you are basically doing a public service for WvW to actually throw up a tag to drive pugs around.

2. The different colors and account bound aspect of the tag should have been features for the commander tag from day one. This is two years in now.

3. A guild tag that is visible to guild members only, hello?

4. The commander icon itself is still has woefully inadequate visibility in typical WvW fights. P.S. so does the cursor. Again, we’re two years in now.

5. The cost of the new tag is hysterical. Many WvW players that have been playing since day one have never even had 300g at any point in time, and they had to beg / scrape together 100g for one tag.

What universe are you guys operating in?

1. I began commanding in my first month (October, 2012) when a friend bought it for me because I was too busy playing WvW to earn gold through play. I had already given ANet money by buying the game, and wasn’t going to buy gems yet.

4. I thought it was hilarious, the day they changed all blue capture point map icons to the same color as the commander pin, where before the pin was a unique blue.

5. It is still common (at least once per week in tier 2) for people to say in chat that they would command the WvW map, but can’t afford the icon.

ANet (and/or NCSoft) water coolers are all spiked with tamazepam.

Charging for a QoL change for the game mode that yields the least income…..I’m done, going to uninstall the game and find something else if it is released like this.

In a subscription model, this would have me cancel and uninstall.

In a buy-to-play model, I’ll just keep playing the parts I do like, but will refuse to pay any more.

Every idiot move like this one raises the bar higher for the when I’ll feel inspired to buy from NCSoft again. They’ve already guaranteed I won’t buy Wildstar, and it’s been a year since I paid anything into GW2.

Yes, there is.

Personally I see the reason for this.

We have our own prime example of the kind of “thinking” and “reason” that occurs.

The reality is quite simple. The majority of us who would have taken advantage of the new colored-commander system will not do so, and ANet will have no way of measuring the real ill effects of their ridiculous decision, because they’ll gather no relevant data.

Maybe I’m being too sensible, but you’d think the ability to change colours on the fly would be the way to go. So if there was a red commander and a blue commander already, you could change your tag to green.

What was asked for during the CDI was a simple usability improvement. Commanders should be able to change color depending on the situation.

Making someone pay another 300g just to have a different colour completely negates the ability for people to switch colours to suit the situation and who else is on the map.

The majority of players willing to purchase the alternate colors will be players we don’t want to obey as commanders.

I understand, but what about t3 to t8. I am sure they have gvg guilds that would like to take part.

That’s a good point.

The Officially Unofficial and Unauthorized Guild Wars 2 Fun and Exciting Content team is working on a way for more GvG teams of 20 players to compete using WvW stats, rules, and foods. Although I can’t say when exactly it will be ready, I expect it will be soon.

We can’t talk about what exactly the new GvG mode is right now. Once the development of this new fun and exciting content reaches a state where we, as a team, are comfortable talking about it, we will.

I will try to keep you updated on the progress of this.

Needs more videos showing how Tier 2 Obsidian Sanctum is more popular than sPvP arenas, and that private arenas are used for WvW GvG practice by people that won’t follow the upcoming esperts conquest tourney.

Whatever the OP has in mind, it’s not going to work any better than what we have now. Been there, done that, on this argument.

Tired of those same old matchups? Hoping to test your mettle against some different opponents? We here at ArenaNet feel the same way.

Up until now, servers have been paired up literally 3 at a time by their precise rating. This doesn’t create a lot of variety in matchups, and it actually locks servers into distinct tiers from which they can never escape!
