you should come check out Yaksbend — good community with the need for some good havoc squads — ill shoot you a PM

Doubt they are looking to be a havoc squad, but are actually looking for a well-organized non-zerg (meaning active avoidance of large fights) tier (not server, because all 3 servers must be complicit in the plan) where they themselves are free to roam as parties of ~5 or less mostly without care for PPT. Occasionally they may consent to assisting a large-combat commander briefly, but it will be for fights, not points. That isn’t as malleable or useful to PPT as it may seem. I do not believe, long or even medium term, that the havoc squad style of assistance in WvW strategy will amuse vT. In ALS’ history with them, this is merely one of many tactics to FRAPS some kills for YouTube.

The implied havoc squad suggestion from OP is one that Anvil Rock tried many ways of cultivating since release. We failed at the point where organization frustrated ego and impinged even slightly upon individual or guild sovereignty.

Please note that from the roamers’ perspective discussed here, a “good fight” is in no way related to, leading toward, or a likely cause of winning a war. It is tactical, with complete disregard and occasionally even disrespect for strategy.

I would recommend TC/DB/FA/Ebay/Mag (that i have personally seen) since you are a havoc squad and these match your criteria.

Some of our smaller roaming guilds are
ARZG
CRIT (from AR)
ROAM
SAGE
wily
NS

As you know, vT, ALS often works well with roamers and contributes our own roaming. Tonight we got quite a bit of help from organized small groups of a variety of sizes. Some large enough to flip camps and distract, others large enough to form pincers and flanks without verbal or text communication.

However, OP doesn’t yet capture what you’re really looking for. “Organized” presence does not do justice to the inevitable negative judgement of the way WvW is played even under organized leadership. This does:

I’m going to suggest something rather radical for this weeks match up that could potentially make WvW much more fun for everyone involved.

Many of us are in these lower Tiers for the sole purpose of avoiding what’s become known as…“The Blob”, “The unskilled Zerg” the “Holy Kitten TURN AROUND!” we are here for the fight.

It’s unfortunate that this game promotes zerging in every way, shape, and form. You get more bags, more WvW exp, and more money. I completely understand the benefit to running with an unstoppable force but at what cost? Do you really find that to be enjoyable? If so, by all means continue to Zerg, take keeps, and most importantly have a great time in WvW!

For those of you who are like me, and many others in these lower tiers listen up. This is GUILD WARS. Not PUG Wars, not Zerg Wars, or Siege Wars. Let’s change the direction of these lower tiers. Let’s make this more enjoyable for those of us who still enjoy a great fight.

Please, let’s take this week and make a concerted effort to increase the number of smaller scale fights. Run with your friends, your GUILD. Make a stand against uneven odds, and have the courage to venture off on your own without the backing of 30-40 players from your server. You’ll be rewarded with great fights and earn the respect of the games remaining roamers.

TL;DR : If you’re a commander Tag up, please. More commanders on the maps let’s create more fights. Try to create a more diverse WvW rather than everyone amassing on one commander.

Roamers/Solo artists/Guilds Take this time to break free from the zerg and work on your group composition, builds, individual skill.

You’ll need to stay exactly where you are for anything really approaching that. Even when ANet decides exactly how it will implement its measures to penalize mindless zerging through encouraging and rewarding skilled large combat, I’m betting that you will still be quite upset every time more than your number interrupt your opportunity to win a fair or in-your-favor fight.

What you actually want is not in Guild Wars 2. Please don’t blame it’s designers or its players when it doesn’t materialize. Thanks.

Thank you Dovgan for your support.

Five months ago:

We are looking for Oceanic guilds/players to join our server! We have a great Alliance that has an awesome prime time, but the only thing our server lacks is people to cover our morning shifts, so any guilds looking to transfer before the payments per transfer begin please consider Anvil Rock. If you are interested feel free to leave a comment on here and the alliance, The Anvil Rock Defenders, will gladly walk you through our work in progress. Thanks!
-Mufasa

Two months ago:

The Transfers from AR to Ehmry were not significant. In fact, having gotten undermined by those who did leave has really helped start the movement in our guild, ALS, which is what we have been pressing for. Give us time, our structure is taking form as we speak.
-Mufasa

Thirteen days ago:

We really wish AR the best, despite the trolling we got when officially announcing our departure. On the other hand, since our transfer http://mos.millenium.org/na shows AR taking a massive evolution point hit, which is truly what it needed. I hope you all are placed in the proper rank and continue to fight hard and outnumbered as always. On another note, since transferring a lot of the tension within the guild has diminished. We are now free to have “fun” once again.
-Mufasa

Your exceptional work in bolstering Anvil Rock is highly appreciated, and we look forward to its fruition.

fun times in TCBL tonight!

I heard there was 30+ golems in the rush. If so, please tell me there was video and post it!

There were fifty golems, 23 mesmers, and at least one person recording (though I don’t have any links, unfortunately).

http://www.twitch.tv/legendarydisco/profile/pastBroadcasts

We siege-capped the map for golems.

We thought 35 golems, but 50 works too. It was pretty epic. I was standing at Hills South Gate when they started to make it up the stairs… half the golems were still walking up the steps when the gate busted. There was this gigantic line of golems. I just want to know how long it took you all to make those!

No idea how long it took. They were built for the event start. But the kick-off for it went this way. (As accurately as I can recall it.)

DB Commander: Oh man. Bunch of guildies just mailed me a bunch of siege.
Someone: Yeah. That’s gonna make it a lot easier on commanders that you can mail it.
DB Commander: I mean they sent me a ton. I must have like 70 golems…
DB Commander: Hey. Y’all get on at 5pm tomorrow and we’ll give TC a 70 golem salute!

And that’s how the 50 golem siege limit was discovered.

They talked about it the night before, and bought alphas off the TP when they were at 26s each. Mystic tried to wait for Hroflr (the buyer) but Hroflr was late due to last-minute work. He did get to mess around in an omega at the end, right before we saved T3 upgraded garrison by switching maps and portaling people in with the 20+ mesmers we still had.

I always seem to forget how obnoxious TC’s forum presence gets when they’re winning handily.

It’s not a good trait.

Well if you have forgotten TC’s be sure to remember DB’s obnoxious forum presence when they were winning handily.

Find it funny that people forget the TC forum warriors came to us saying we wouldn’t win T2 cause we were trash…. Same individuals whined on the forums that our forum warriors were being mean. Big wheel of garbage if you ask me but whatever

However, the mayo comment was dumb that we all can agree on

I still remember. Though, if I had to say who did PvF more, it was definitely DB. I remember a slew of [RE]/[CO] and a few [EA] members talking tons of crap when we were down, too. Well, until that morning we stomped the scoreboard. But before that it was nothing but ’’it’s been fun here gais but T1 looks nice" and “free bags on our way to T1” along with “enjoy another loss this week”. Still, our two weeks of being stomped was well deserved, because of the morons who went into your other matchup thread and talked.

Basically, both servers have keyboard cowboys, and while one of us is winning, the other is sulking, and vice versa. Same goes for population. When we win, they come out, when we are losing, they aren’t anywhere to be seen. :/

I do believe our servers have a fair bit of the same problems.

I want names and address of all those [EA], they will rue the day they spew such slander on these here forums

Dedicated WVW Player looking to move

in Looking for...

Virtute.8251

Ember, ALS remembers you. We occasionally had to correct our members in voice-com when they mistook you for our Embur whom has taken a break from the game.

We recently reconnected with Morfeus (from TWIN) on Dragonbrand, too! He moved there months ago.

ALS was born out of the first WvW guild transfer off of Anvil Rock, and we stuck it out for months after we began losing players again and having conversations about pros and cons of moving the whole guild.

Crit came with us, and had to make the same decision you’re looking at: not all of them wanted to leave, but the ones that did (including their leader, Kaedirin) decided to leave anyway.

We chose Dragonbrand because its NA primetime is not full. We had 2 hour conversations with people from DB and TC, and got along with our DB representative better, while the TC reps were kind and honest, including the fact that TC in no way needs more NA players (they need gap fillers off of NA for when they fight Tier 1).

During our first 2 weeks on DB, our match-ups brought out all the fairweathers that DB can muster, and we still had short and manageable queues, where we could go into a less-played WvW map while waiting on another map’s queue. This week, our fairweathers have run away from helping us fight TC. We’re losing the match to manpower and coverage, but we’re able to gather our fellow guilds to full-queue and siege-cap TC’s map when we choose to during our primetimes: http://www.twitch.tv/legendarydisco/profile/pastBroadcasts

When running at full-tilt (including fairweathers) DB has two primetimes: NA and SEA (primarily Singapore and Taiwan).

If TC or above is not include in our match, we hold back during NA primetime, to leave some fun for the rest of the world. If TC or above is in the match, we turn more offensive than defensive, but remain quite concerned with defending upgraded structures (keeps more than towers, and our map thirds more than elsewhere).

One of the things that ALS and friends provided in our first reset weekend on DB was scouts on Eternal BG during our joint venture with rB and Hero guilds. We scout and share intel heavily, in the server’s public teamspeak.

Our roamers still roam, and our scouts still scout. Kaiji still solos supply camps and runs havoc teams, rocking his spirit master build. Hroflr is still late for primetime, and Fourty is still followed by militia on Eternal BG when his commander pin is off.

Can we shelve the 2v1 talk for the week? Ehmry came into this matchup eyes wide open that coverage was going to take away our stuff for at roughly 50% of the day all week, and this is not what a real double team looks like.

Week 17, EBay, Borliss Pass, Anvil Rock. Faced with weeks of losing and no real hope of turning the tides BP and AR spent 1 entire week allied and focusing on the larger server – EBay. Shared comms systems and bolstering of each others forces and morale in the matchup thread… that is what a double team looks like. Anything short of that is 2 smart servers taking advantage of a circumstance presented by weakness or poor planning on the part of the 3rd.

We did not have shared voice com during Brolis Rock. We had a guild to which about 40 commanders from both servers joined and used for chat just prior to that reset, and then as a contacts list for the remainder of the match.

In the old ranking system, we got stuck with Ehmry through a period where they didn’t belong at rank 13 but couldn’t escape the tier, for lack of opportunity to prove they didn’t belong at 13. Ehmry immediately proved that in the new match-making system.

All servers are being bounced around “tier to tier”, some more than others. That’s the new match-making. The bouncing around will be reduced when the rand(-1,1) is eventually reduced.

I don’t believe that these things mean what you think they mean.

Dovgan, I was giving one of the reasons we left, not all of them. If you want to believe that, though, then you’re welcome to it.

Kane, if you were so concerned with appearances of “pay to win” you would have gone to Borlis Pass, Darkhaven, Stormbluff, or apparently Yak’s Bend. We in Dragonbrand paid to have fun with similarly minded players, and we had already sent scouts and seen friends leave to Ehmry. The ones that came back told us why not to bother. See you on the field.

Our contacts lists are showing a further spread than only Dragonbrand and Ehmry, anyway. Anvil Rock has been bleeding players for months, and the recent move of ALS simply caused many more to do what they were already prepared to do. We found that many already had the gold saved up, and were simply awaiting the word to go. We’ve also run into ex-AR players that moved months ago without announcement.

The people remaining in Anvil Rock need to stay, doing whatever it is they do, without inviting any further revelations toward how mismatched they are with the game they are choosing to play. It’s not about refusing to abandon the server in a time of need. They don’t need anything. The bulk of AR’s remaining frequent WvW players are getting what they wanted.

The ones who don’t want this are the ones who should leave. Read their recent match-up threads for confirmation.

I’m not sure if I follow what you are trying to say, but it seems what you’re saying is, “ALS” had different visions with WvW than majority of the active WvW’ers who were not a part of ALS.
Such as ALS being geared towards defensive measures and offensive tactics, whereas other AR players are more into the “savage kill or be killed” attitude? Like more of gorilla warfare than organized battle.

Not exactly. First, the mismatch between GW2 WvW and AR WvW: Similar to the way many Ehmry Bay players approach WvW, we often find Anvil Rockers touting “we just want good fights” as their credo. However, unlike Ehmry, Anvil often flat-out refuses to play for objectives as a method of gaining more challenging fights. When Anvil says it wants “good fights”, it means “dost thou even 1v1 all day, bro?” They want objective-free wilderness style open PvP, and enjoy Runescape-like player killing. They do it in WvW because it is as close to that as GW2 gets, and variety is higher than in sPvP in all respects.

The direction of all that is nearly identical to what spawned the “roaming tier” movement here on the forum, for which the interested players and guilds chose Tier 8 servers. That is why I say that this side of Anvil Rock is getting exactly what they have asked for.

ALS is just as savage and kill-or-be-killed as the server we grew in. However, yes, we also carry in our ranks players who get their fun from succeeding in the large-scale combat that WvW is designed for. We upgrade WvW locations and expect to defend them. We seek to anger our opponents by resetting their upgraded structures. We enjoy skilled fighting in and around the conquest design.

Yet, we were also found roaming and in attendance at fight clubs. We still roam and succeed in location captures with 5 or less people, in Tier 2.

All I can say to a post like this is … wow.

Well, our friend here from Darkhaven is definitely on the right track, offering your players a new home.

AR is dropping tiers because a lot of us don’t play WvW to play WvW. We play WvW to kill people. This is where the skill part comes in. The guild we lost, ALS, left because the people in our server don’t like attacking & defending doors. So when they left, we lost a giant chunk of the players that played for towers/keeps/etc.

Imagine this attitude in an sPvP team. Honest and complete disrespect for your team mates who choose to play for objective and points in a game of cooperative conquest… on the sPvP capital server! He doesn’t even have ALS’ reasons right.

I don’t abandon a server because of guild abandonment. With old heroes leaving, new heroes now have a chance to arise and take action.

Even if Anvil falls to the bottom of the charts, I will be supporting her and fighting for her for the entirety of GW2.

This was ALS’ attitude and goals, too. It took about 8 months for Anvil Rock itself to change our minds.

Remember our experiences in fighting Darkhaven, Isle of Janthir, Northern Shiverpeaks, Devona’s Rest, and Gate of Madness.

All five of those servers carry plenty of those evil zergers that dare to cooperatively fight in groups larger than 3 to 5. This line of reasoning is why there is a thread dedicated to consolidating WvW “roaming” guilds onto the bottom 3 servers, which predates the match-making changes. Those guilds got tired of feeling rage every time their screen went grey with 10 up-scales jumping and dancing on them.

You’re probably right… AR is not likely a bottom-tier-7 server… and that’s actually a bad thing for its players that refuse to play WvW as it is.

Anvil Rock should take a few weeks off from WvW. The culture has always reacted poorly to change, and now that we’re hearing that THE BILLS TRAIN WILL NEVER STOP, it would be in all of AR’s best interest to give a vacation from WvW to any of its remaining members who play for objectives and point gains.

Roam around, find fights, and ride it out until AR hits bottom of tier 7, where it can frequently fight the other servers of that weight class.

They don’t deserve a guild like ALS.

Kind words, thank you. We just aren’t seeing the more negative sentiments you’ve expressed about Dragonbrand (at least not yet). Time will tell, but every server has its bad people, just like every city has its bad neighborhoods. We saw plenty of that on Anvil Rock, and it was most often directed internally at allies, including ALS the guild, and ALS members individually.

Furthermore, in the match-up we had with AR before this transfer, I spoke with a lot of ALS members on their BL because I was roaming a lot that week, and all of them expressed a deep love for AR, and a few said they’d never leave it. It saddens me deeply that the eponymous guild of a server has chosen to leave it when it needed them the most.

We feel the same… it’s why we voted to keep the ALS tag and then voted on a replacement name, “Always Losing Sleep.” The new name was a suggestion given by an ALS member who will not be leaving AR yet, because his brother recently inherited the CRFT guild. Strong ties there, adding that ALS founders Bankai and Retsul (who will be regaining ownership of AR-ALS on our move-out deadline of July 5th) were CRFT members at release week.

To ALS – it was wonderful to play with you when I could. I was one of the non-guild guys who would actually get on your TS so I could get the intel on fight locations and where I was needed. You are representing Anvil Rock on DB now (once and Anvil Rocker, always an Anvil Rocker) so you better show them the best of what you got.

Thanks to you, too. You, Dovgan, and others will be sorely missed. It was players like you that kept us on AR as long as we were. AR Lion’s Arch and WvW map chats during Sunday through Wednesday, however, proved that we had very much made the correct decision.

Edit: Regarding your question in the current match-up thread, about the TeamSpeak server, we will attempt to transfer ownership of the server subscription to Retsul if the service provider allows it (also on or around July 5th). That will include the domain name remaining as-is, even though its owner has moved to Dragonbrand; the domain is about 6 months old, and was purchased for 12.

I think the people that brought AR to where it was are mostly no longer playing or on the server.

This is true, now. The set of about 10 players that went from ALS to various guilds in Ehmry Bay weeks ago were almost entirely people who had played with ALS since its early days in August – October 2012, but they were also joined by AR players that had already left ALS weeks or months before that move.

More importantly, ALS uses Google Docs spreadsheets to loosely track player activity, and will have removed a bit more than 200 players from its roster between April 1st and July 1st for showing no signs of logging in within the 2 months prior to the date they were kicked. On the day ALS chose to transfer away from AR, there were 400 accounts on its roster and about 80 attended our “should we leave home” meeting. 75 have transferred as of today, and about 150 have not logged in since at least three weeks before we made this decision.

About 75 of ALS had also left or been kicked in the previous week, after more than 50 of the people who have transferred had also decided at the start of June that we would require using TeamSpeak while in WvW.

In large part, we left AR to help keep our remaining guild of friends together in a place where they may be less inclined to leave us, until they are actually finished playing the game itself.

I think never having a night crew is what ultimately sealed the deal.

We couldn’t attract major transfers in, because our culture and stories of inter-guild conflict has always caused guild scouts to look elsewhere. The only in-bound transfers that AR has ever been likely to receive have been individuals, guilds of about five roamers, and friends and would-be opponents of our sPvP players.

Not only did we not have a real night-crew, we also couldn’t effectively grow one, couldn’t effectively recruit one, and when it began to materialize in the form of two well-known guilds, those guilds were organizationally opposed to teamwork at a higher level than happening to be on the map with other people.

Grim, don’t take the advice of people that use terms like “skill group” to describe themselves, who brag about loot bags in a game that awards those to all sides of the fight, and who use the word “zerg” every single time they die with more than one opponent standing next to them as their screen goes grey.

Observer bias is a leading cause of misunderstandings.

I never get why guilds do that. They move to some mega WvW server and become just one more cog in the machine, where before they were the respected big shots of their own server.

I wouldn’t rate Dragonbrand as a mega-server these days. Yet, I also don’t hold any grudges against a game world server for having a lot of people in it. We use our guild-mate Yalta’s analogy for comparing world servers to towns and cities. In our transfer, we have merely moved from a relatively small town to a bigger city. We didn’t move to this city to bandwagon onto their successes. We’re here for opportunities and lifestyle more fitting with our goals and desires. We didn’t pay to win, we paid to have fun.

if you’re sick of logging on every day to discover that you’ve lost everything overnight (or while you were at work, or whatever) it’s completely understandable to contemplate a move elsewhere.

This happens on Dragonbrand as well. The difference between most cases of this happening in DB, and most cases of this happening in AR, is that in DB the capture-point will more often go down with a fight, and in AR it often will go down without anyone on the map having cared. Our players that spend 100s of gold in upgrades were looking for a culture of more frequent care and respect for those investments when the capture-point is positioned on the map to be naturally owned by our server.

I guess ALS must enjoy zerg style fighting. If so, more power to you.

Personally, i like the small fights. Those are the fights where you prove how good you are.

In sPvP the players care deeply for points earned from capture-points, and WvW is also a game of conquest in that way. However, much of AR server is honestly more suited for playing against the roaming guild stacked Tier 8 servers. The WvW zones are often treated as an open-PvP area with Runescape-style player killing as the only objective.

ALS is not married to the mindless-zerg concept. In fact, we prefer zerg-breaking, siege defense, scouting, and havoc. Our commanders play squad-style when their tag is on, because that is what it’s best used for.

Many of us have thoroughly proven “how good” we are in class usage, including through attendance at fight clubs and participation in random encounter fights away from commanded squads. Our skill set is far more dynamic than a compulsion to either only fight in zerg or never fight in zerg. The ability to roam while maintaining situational awareness to leave the fight before a zerg roflstomps you is also a skill, as is the ability to lead or participate in group fights larger than yourself and the four people in your party.

What happened is that they fell for the sultry voice of the Dragonbrand recruiter.

Endless Flirt: Stack on me!
ALS guys: YES MA’AM!!!!

I think that the women in our guild were more impressed by Flirt’s gender than our men were.

It was Legendary Flirt, and it was when she said “bag of ducks” (with an i instead of a u). :P

Such as her.

They paid just as much for the game as anyone else, and if they want to move, they’re entitled to do so at will. Play for your enjoyment, or why play at all. I spoke with them over the weekend and they seemed like a fantastic group, worthy of anyone’s respect.

I think they’ll be really happy in their new home, and I think DB was a great choice on their part. I can’t wait to fight Dragonbrand again! I’m sure that would be a really fun matchup.

Flirt came to us by way of our former-AR friend, Mysticloner, who had already moved to Dragonbrand. We came to the forum looking for a Tarnished Coast name to ask for counter-insight and found Hickeroar, whom left WvW to talk to us and brought a friend. Hickeroar very respectfully helped us learn that Dragonbrand would probably be our best fit for all things considered.

ALS. All of you considering transfering, come. I promise you raising your game. I promise you organized wvw with top tier tactics. I promise you a chance to make a difference.

Join us.

On Sunday we had the most online that we would have all week, and posed the question then. All voters were in TeamSpeak, and given the survey link there. Below, images one and two come from the same survey. The vote was evenly split between Dragonbrand and Tarnished Coast, so we pulled in representatives from both servers after most votes had already been cast, and had two hour talks with each (four hours total). Image three is our final decision on Monday.

We’re on Dragonbrand with >70 confirmed transfers thus far.

I’ve only found a handful of situations where I both needed and was able to use this tactic since I thought of it about four months ago. This should be lowest priority to be changed, if at all, and I don’t believe it should be touched at all.

The first thing I did on transferring was pug along with a few packs of roamers, following different ones as I encountered them on the field.
