Guild that are planning to transfer to T8

Edit: Maybe this isn’t every transfer story but this is the story of most transfers that I’ve seen leave Gate of Madness from their own mouths. I suppose it’s not the story that they tell to the server they arrived on or maybe not the story that servers with many guilds take notice of. But here we have few guilds and I try to remember each of their stories.

Most of the people that have previously left GoM and then returned, did so because they didnt like the competition of more skilled players, feeling that their contributions weren’t as weighty. They returned because the overall lack of skill on GoM was so low, theirs seemed exponentially higher.

Comparable to a small U.S. town feeling fancy when it gets a Popeye’s Chicken along its interstate highway route.

I’m honestly looking forward to the incoming reply from the 500 roster gold or silver league guild announcing its transfer to tier 8. They definitely won’t be thinking about Kaineng when making the decision.

I’m guessing that in addition to that, Kalkz is coming back to BP, while Goldiy, Rekz, GH, Void, FTF, etc. are all coming back to EBay, and we will all somehow meet again in T5 and be stuck fighting each other forever, just like last year?

I’m going to go ahead and say if the DB ALS transfered back we would not see you in T5, they would actually have to make an NA T9 for AR to sit in alone because our Skill would drop that much with the addition of the DB ALS.

Yep, that’s exactly how Dragonbrand gets every one of its transfers.

We’re even paying higher-tier guilds to move in. We have a warchest guild filled with thousands of gold, waiting impatiently to prey upon the lower servers with gilded stories of milk, honey, unicorns and cupcakes.

Yet, being “hardcore” is such a subjective thing… you can have it, though.

I wouldn’t even use the word hardcore if you hadn’t.

That wasn’t me.

Nutz has it right for what most guilds who transfer from low tier to high tier look like. It’s not the guilds that excel at WvW.

That’s nonsense, really.

[…]
To pivot from that discussion, however, would WvW be better or worse off if we removed dolyaks entirely and went with the setup we use in EotM or something similar?

I think there are good reasons to keep dolyaks, but I wonder if we might be able to solve many of the problems we’ve discussed here by eliminating that sense of the supply chain of battle? It might just have the effect of making supply far less limiting.

[…]

Changes to supply management should consider the fact that the current (arguably more realistic) supply chain system introduces a set of frustrations and divisions between allies in the servers. Specifically, the subject of supply resting inside capture locations and supply resting inside of supply camps.

If you can remove the resource competition, where allies argue and berate each other over supply being removed from capture locations with ongoing structure upgrades, then you will also have encouraged a sense of teamwork and peace by removing the opportunity for either ignorance or trolling to cause frustration between allies.

According to polls at gw2wvw.net there will be very little shift in populations as money is not a real great Input into decision making.

Theres also the 24/7 action and instant action in WvW in the upper Tiers which is very elusive to the casual gamer and hadcore players, both alike. Offcourse some prefer different sorts of action, and for those, i think they might take advantage of the free transfers.

Remember, free transfers to lower tiers was a request by the community. See, Anet listens

If money is not an input into decision making about transfers why does your server and others pay other people’s transfer fees?

Edit: Looked at the poll. 20% of the people who voted are transferring? That seems like a pretty big shift to me.

The only decision that matters to WvW guilds is whether they will get good fights 24/7. As for the the gems/gold that it costs, a hardcore WvW will find a way…

Hence the mass exodus from the lower tiers.

From what I’ve seen, it’s not the hardcore guilds that make the exodus.

Thread over…

You’re confusing “hardcore” with “hardheaded”, and presuming a non-existent evil in leaving your server(s), as well as a non-inherent honor in refusing to leave.

We should support their desire to stay there.

i posed a question to the lower tiers to see what opinions are regarding the idea of server mergers or alliances. these are the players such a change would most drastically impact. the upper tiers will not see significant difference in gameplay should such a change occur. they already have “enough” people to reasonably populate all maps all the time and have random players able to enter wvw and basically have something to do thrown in their face, as opposed to needing to seek out things to do.

so far the tally is:

  • 75% do not want some form of alliances or mergers
  • 25% do

the conclusion i can reasonably draw is that our low tier forum posters arent very amenable to pooling wvw populations such as is done in eotm.

my hypothesis based on the response to that thread:
if i were to ask… “does anet need to remodel server transfer options?” i would receive mostly “yes” responses, but we dont feel like overhauling the concept of servers as they are is necessary.

please consider this when discussing the viability of alliances or an R/G/B team system or factions or whatever. the servers are not largely abandoned, as is commonly assumed by those in t1 or t2. and we dont want a solution that will dissolve our communities. (i think we would want a solution that grows our communities, but i dont have even limited data to support saying “we” right there and speak only for myself).

Relative to tiers 1 and 2, tiers 7 and 8 are absolutely dead, demolished and over with. The thing you should take away from your polling is that the remaining people on those servers are the reasons their servers are down there, and they like it that way.

We should support their desire to stay there.

So, until something (specifically, groups lead by the right kinds of someone) steers DB toward more consistently skilled play, we are rightly positioned at rank #7 in regard to what happens if we fight anyone rank #8 or lower. However, the distance between rank #7 and rank #6 is much wider than 40 leaderboard points does justice to explaining.

I think it’s more about the distance between #8 and #7 that is causing the problem. One that will go away as SoR drops down and DB reaches the point where it cannot gain score.

FA has fantastic NA, great GvG guilds, and I like fighting them; but they continue to bleed off hours guilds.

The best thing would be for DB to get some more WvW-centric players and make a play for T2. Hopefully the OP and others decide to do so.

Having DB stuck at the top of T3; PvD’ing and destroying any server that moves into T3 is not good for anyone.

I’m taking the predicted match-end rankings for granted, and judging DB as already moved to #7, where it will be about 40 rank points away from FA at #6. Then I am assuming from experience that FA will dominate DB if we match against them, even if (perhaps especially if) it is FA/DB/SoR or similar.

Where I mention the distance between DB at #7 and FA at #6, that is why I say that the distance between the two is greater than the number of rank points separating their positions on the board next week. FA marks the first position on the board where it and all servers above it possess high population, an honest desire to win fights (strategically and tactically, without inherent regard for currency and account bound reward), and the skills to win those fights.

Count off the servers from #6 and upward. As you go up, those mentioned and other related factors increase in volume proportionately. It’s the server ranking system doing it’s job. DB has individuals and guilds that express those factors, but not in sufficient volume of people doing it well to survive in tier 2. Relative to neighbors, DB is already at the point where it can not gain score. We needn’t count SoR in that, as it’s simply distributing points as it ranks down. Relatively, those points will balance.

FA having fantastic NA and great GvG guilds (presumably in NA) is an instant win for them versus us. We have mediocre NA and a budding GvG guild or two that are late to the party, trying to catch up.

TLDR:

Dragonbrand is to Tier 3 what Tarnished Coast was to Tier 2 last year: just too big for the tier, but without a snowball’s chance in the tier above.

More than any server below us, and apparently more than Maguuma (we haven’t fought SoS or FA recently enough to know).

At this point looks like maybe only SoS Sea/Ocx would be a good challenge to yours, sounds like you guys are in the same position we were in not long ago before the new transfers, with the amount you can queue up for NA. Would certainly be interesting to fight Dragonbrand in T2.

I doubt how interesting that fight will be for SoS. Maguuma had a very difficult time with finding fights outside of scheduled GvG. That quickly escalated to them forgoing the fight hunt for playing hard PPT, because they found infrequent opposition in doing so. It ended with them drawing away enough points to make this week’s matching more likely, which is what they were playing for.

Dragonbrand can rightly claim to have a SEA population comparable in volume to SoS. I believe our OCX zone is covered primarily by SEA and NA based players.

The difference between the two cultures is where the SoS vs DB match falls apart the same as Mag vs DB. Per capita, the DB majority of WvW players doesn’t log into game intending to go to WvW to help. Most are more selfish than that. The pug checks the scoreboard first. The WvW guilds and commanders have the heart to press on in spite of that fact, but most of our WvW guilds that honestly own that descriptor (veterans that really know what to do and when) do not command and play either in GvG or in zerg-hunting guilds.

Tier 2 will not get fair fights out of DB until DB grows and gains more WvW-centric players.

Our rank history from week 02 to week 09 is explained primarily by dying servers passing us by (beginning with Ehmry dying while in match with us), and secondarily by a status quo stability where we retain a relatively high population whose majority takes WvW as a secondary pass time during the easier matches. Because they don’t necessarily value WvW highly, they aren’t encouraged to leave by poor performance in our matches against T2 servers. That merely influences their choice to not play much WvW that week.

Compare last year’s week 30 match to this year’s week 08, to really see what I mean.

Week 30
8. 1st Maguuma 320 466
6. 3rd Dragonbrand 137 667
10. 2nd Ehmry Bay 167 035

Week 08
6. 1st Maguuma 305 300
8. 2nd Dragonbrand 198 063
9. 3rd Stormbluff Isle 124 163

Dragonbrand is a stable, non-progressive culture. Internally it has changed very little in since it fell from tier 2 last year. The only thing that changed was the relative strength of servers that beat DB down to rank #10 before we settled there.

WvW: What aspects of Edge of The Mists do you think could carry over to the rest of WvW and how? – Owner- Devon Carver

Overflow in WvW should work like EOTM…also since you now would have overflow maps in WvW….drop the map limit to something like 50-60 ppl total. However, I would allow GUILDS to queue at the same time…so guilds and parties could queue together and raid together.

Bigger maps lead to map blobs being ineffective.

Solution:

Combine the three Borderlands into one overflowing map, with the Citadels retained as guaranteed safe harbors in the same way as the EoTM air ships.

Remove the Borderland “border waypoints”.

Deduplicate the capture locations and apply your EoTM creativity to the new space, but pattern it after the original maps. Keep roughly the same number of objectives.

Result:

Epic battles, large and small. Room to move, room to get lost in… room to play strategy between the tactics-dominated epic fights.

Colour variation and EoTM

in WvW

Posted by: Virtute.8251

Virtute.8251

I wasn’t talking about tiers there, but about ranks.
Matchups where all servers are close in ranking score will be nearly random when it comes to what colour they get.
Matchups where there is a big gap in ranking score will nearly always have highest green, middle blue and lowest red.

This week for example there is only 1 matchup where the lowest rank is green, and that’s because all three are close in rankings. And 13 matchups have the lowest rank as red.

Just saying that the colour should be completely random and should not depend your rating for the sake of variation.

More specifically, this part:

Matchups where there is a big gap in ranking score will nearly always have highest green, middle blue and lowest red.

EU has exactly ZERO cases of your described scenario. The proof is basic arithmetic, and is attached here. We don’t even need to run the match-up prediction code 100,000 times and aggregate the results for this one.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/wvw-matchup-variance-reduction/

The new values allow for adjustments as much as (devation * 0.45 + 10), capped at 100. In both cases, the roll is plus-or-minus these values multiplied by a random real value in the range (-1,1).

Also observe the Deviation column of https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/eu/wvw

You can stop worrying now! It’s just the observer’s bias talking!

Andrew, I’m sure that plenty of people will play EoTM that way, but that’s an awfully linear viewing of it. Gamer behavior is far more organic than all that.

I see it as a sandbox, more so than the original maps partly because they are well played and learned, and partly because it is obviously designed with that concept of chaos in mind.

Of note: It took a few hours for me to start seeing an [EoTM] guild being represented heavily and used fairly well in the standard follow-the-driver fashion. They were farming kills more than captures.

Didn’t mean to argue against EoTM promoting stacking. It does, unquestionably, but indirectly. After that tacit admission, the argument really comes down to whether or not you consider stacking to be an inherently bad thing.

EoTM doesn’t kill regular WvW. It changes it. EoTM is a new factor to the total equation. It’s not going to destroy normal WvW. It also will not be the last major revision of WvW.

I argued this at length with my guild and server, too. It’s fairly disappointing that we had to sacrifice all server attachment inherent to the WvWvW format, to get the variety of opponents in EoTM which is essentially RvRvR, or RvGvB as I call it.

Guild agrees that we don’t care about the extra supply at all.

I have no real incentive to be there much.

I think that is the idea.

The first night was brutal on some of the top tier servers (FA being the biggest loser on night 1). CD, was getting spanked by HoD during the night (and CD had been spanking HoD until then). Gonna be interesting.

In any matchup, the higher rank has most chance to be green, the middle rank blue, and the lowest rank red. This is clearly visible in matchups where there are big gaps in ratings.

That’s just not true. The matching calculation does not consider tier, so the likelihood that ranks 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, and 22 will be green… well, the fact that they are at that position is irrelevant.

It is very likely that ranks 1, 2, and 3 will fight each other. It is much less likely that they will be sorted as 1, 2, 3. It is very unlikely that the majority of the leaderboard will be sorted that way, as you are concerned about.

A server’s chance to be at a certain color is decided by how nearly equal its ranking score is to the servers nearest to it on the leaderboard, as well as its volatility (the amount it tends to move in rank over time). Then randomness is factored in as well.

We have fairly often seen Tier 1 and others fight each other while being shuffled in color (rank 3 green, rank 2 blue, rank 1 red, for instance).

It can be more or less than 400 supply, if the ready up stream was correct. The supply drop is supposed to be 40 successful interactions, meaning that any player with the supply carry wvw rank bonus will get their additional supply. A player with 9 supply and a capacity of 10 will get 1. In both cases, 1 interaction is consumed on the drop location.

I agree. This does relieve some of the main pressure that would have caused people to switch servers. People will still move for social reasons.

[API Suggestion] Guilds

in API Development

… For example, you would programmatically be able to obtain last-login/representation information for yourself, not any arbitrary user in your guild.

It sounds like what you would like is some enhanced permissions for guild leaders to obtain members’ guild stats. We will definitely keep this in mind when implementing the guild APIs. Thank you for the suggestion.

This is precisely what we need—to be able to remotely query for the current guild roster table—and here is a use-case: Drupal 7 implementation of GW2 API.

In that case, what we would like to do is have our web server periodically (perhaps hourly on cron) query for changes in the guild roster, to keep a website user database up-to-date. This relieves a major pain-point for managing third-party guild websites. When a guild operates a website (say a forum) which has some permissions configured which require knowledge of the simple fact of whether or not a website-account owner is a member of this guild in-game, then this API proposal will make that significantly easier.

The root problem we want to address is that our third-party systems support contains data that always grows stale quickly. We absolutely must keep third-party copies of our guild rosters, and often the ranks as well. Currently, we are being forced to do this manually in all cases.

This API suggestion would truly be a major step toward helping player-organized communities grow up around your game. The hurdles we have to jump through currently are prohibitive. We have no clean and trustworthy access to any of the user- or guild-related data, and we’re forced to spend man-hours doing free data entry to compensate. Most of us refuse to do that, and our communities suffer.

We do not require write access, you can keep that in the game client. We do need read access, and it can be put behind OAuth2. I propose that a separate OAuth2 token should be generated for each guild, and it should be revealed only to the guild leader(s). This would be an API access token in the same respect as implemented in Google API, but with read-only access. The data made available there should be the same as we see in the guild screen in-game. The order in which you choose to implement these is yours to make, but I could likely give you a solid case for read-access to most pieces of it.

The roster is the most important data for us. The full roster and achievement points (including exact time that the most recent points were earned) are already public to every guild member, on the web, and the rest of data is public to them in-game. We just want it in a machine-readable format, up front, through the API, without having to parse DOM on that page.

Some examples of using the other data for community-building and support purposes:

  • Query influence point history to plot on a graph when the guild is most actively playing.
  • Query influence point history to calculate an estimate of upgrade capabilities (how often can we activate a planned set of Boost upgrades).
  • Query upgrades building status to generate an alert message on some condition like no upgrade running.
  • Query Message of the Day to publish it in other systems, like a website.
  • Query histories like Upgrades, Missions, Roster to know who is accomplishing all of that work, over a longer period than the 1 to 2 weeks shown in-game.

However, my favorite and most desired one would be read-access to the ranks and the roster (with user rank included) so that we can use the rank system in-game, to affect ACLs outside of the game. I don’t mean the in-game permissions assignments here, just simply the rank naming and positioning of the ranks within the list of 10 possible ranks. It would be fairly straight-forward for us to create 1:1 relationships between ranks in-game and, for example, account roles in Drupal or channel/server groupings in TeamSpeak.

Also note that there is discussion of this solution’s pain-point here, where some thought to use the Mumble memory-mapped file as a temporary unsecured solution.

now have 15-20man zergs just controlling them while the rest of the servers zergs are just steamrolling everything because YET AGAIN you give a bonus to high population servers and punish the smaller ones.

It takes one person to uncap them…just saying

It takes zero people to neutralize (un-cap) the 5 points. It takes one cap, and whatever the situation calls for to win a fight near a point.

I insist on an answer, Devon. What has been changed in the dev’s mind after this statement?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Orbs-will-be-removed-from-WvW-in-an-upcoming-build/first#post608170

Something that changed: Devon != Habib

Something that didn’t change: willingness to accept change when not completely and individually pleasured.

This makes me very happy that I don’t care about what world rank I have on any of my characters, ever. One of every class, I play them at-will, I never even think about the WxP until I happen to notice that I have enough points to spend on something (which I may or may not do).

If you have doubts about helping your teammates with the character class that they need (and you have available)—if you have nervous twitches every time you want to play a character that you normally don’t—and if WxP rewards are the reason you decide not to: that is not the game’s fault. That is your fault. Take responsibility for your decisions, please.

There’s no ego or glory in it for me. I’ve sent my WvW glory/loot-hounds packing, since they were ruining my fun with their silly demands and bickering. I play for the experience of assisting and participating in other commanders’ strategies and tactics, and that is all the reward I care about while in WvW.

Honestly, I’d be happy if every copper piece of all pseudo-currencies were stricken from WvW, because—although I am not elitist on skills or personal interests—I just don’t trust or respect people who join onto teams in teamwork-driven PvP video games for the bloody loot or their bloody ego.

Basically what sacrx says is true.

That’ll be the day. Just give the man his veils and damage and he’ll be happy, breh.

I guess GW2 really is going to be a casual pve scrub-only game.

I hope so. We’re calm, likeable people, and are probably the demographic that ANet actually builds games for; Those who appreciate the work and, when they choose to give criticism, do it constructively and usually without poisonous derision toward our fellow gamers. Yet… some of our fellows just have this way of earning derision.

… As we can see my server, Blackgate, has been running the lowest PPT for most of the day, yet they have gained a points gap overall. …

Currently, you have +300 PPT, and have put Sanctum of Rall down to +135PPT. Tell us more about Blackgate not getting PPT all day or ever since this horrible patch.

We got tunnel-vision earlier while having too many people in the ruins, and lost our Bay to a few TC and an Omega Golem… we were on the west side of the ruins, and got to in-between the outer and inner walls as it flipped, so we got an eye-full of the very few people who did it.

That’s right. Small-group captures of keeps, in Tier 2. It happens in Tier 1. It’s been happening all along.

GW2 Forum Warriors: Complain about “zergs” moar, pls.

You admitted it was your own fault, simply dumb play. If you let your zerg remain camping the ruins while objectives are taken, then duh, they will fall.

But under actual attentive command, the new buffs and the ruins are more favorable to the existing stronger or winning team in the matchup, and make things even easier for them.

Especially in lower tiers where many servers can’t man decent sizes forces across more than 1 or 2 maps. They have little hope but to be down 2 buffs the majority of the time.

Professor Forum: Under ideal imagined circumstances, my theory holds true! Under real circumstances that can be fairly guaranteed to happen to everyone, my theory is not fact. In defense of my theory, it does not respect facts!

Thank you for your thoughts.

Zerging is exactly the wrong way to be capping ruins, and I would be less concerned about how stupid you think bloodlust is and rather how stupid the opposing server is for attempting to do this.

It’s a waste of manpower, but actually not the easy to take advantage of. Because while the counter to this would be to go hit some valuable structures of the zerg, taking Tower and Keeps still takes significantly long enough that the zerg can easily abandon their ruins diversions and go wipe any counter attacking force, and then simply resume zerging over the ruins.

Playing on on home BL is great fun (and there is a sense of newness) thanks to added terrain and capture points.

Dominant server (Tarnished Coast) has not been dominating our bloodlust buff.

20 Fort Aspenwood defending Bauer’s Estate when far less than us approached to play for it didn’t upset me, and the 20 FA were not a “zerg”.

As of this post, TC, FA, and DB each own a bloodlust buff. (While writing, FA took TC’s buff on TC BL).

We have defeated TC in equal # v # fights while they had 2 bloodlust and we had 1. They’ve done the same to us, I suspect.

I honestly hope to see many improvements like this one to WvW over the years. It will improve the game directly (making it better) and indirectly (causing attrition of many of the people who posted on the forum today)!

And that folks is what WVW is at this moment. Will have to gather more information whether this buff really is affecting wvw gameplay or it’s pretty much we’re overthinking it.

That’s precisely it. Potential negatives are being vastly over-thought, potential benefits are hitting an immature “but I dont WANT IT” brick wall, and reconsideration of strategy and tactics of WvW can’t be expected from players who honestly haven’t been approaching the mode from that direction anyway.

I made a simple video testing the buff at full – being that my server took every power node.

What do you guys think?

I think that you won that fight primarily by having more allies than enemies in the fight at the end, which is normal. The video isn’t conclusive regarding Borderlands Bloodlust.

If it had been 1v1, 0 bloodlust vs 3 bloodlust, 3 bloodlust should be more likely to win.

Anet has about 1 month to give us GvG arenas, before they lose 60% of WvW population.

I like where this is going. Please, continue.

Is 99% of this thread included in that 60%? Please say yes.

Being in there with 4 other people, groups would all be burst damage specs and just single out targets and spam everything. Typical stuff that people in this game do.

Burst spec or not, this is the same pattern that GvG and zerg/baddie-busting groups cough Red[tired] Guard cough practice.

This is definitely an example of poorly considered opinion, and I applaud Devon for openly stating before that these opinions carry little weight in his decisions. That’s a man of class that can tell you kindly that your cries are falling on deaf ears!

Right, because WvW didn’t have capture-points before today.

So you used to take a camp and the proceed to sit in it all day ? .. I must have being playing this game all wrong then.

I have actually spent a few nights as part of small groups that chose the mission of defending a particular supply camp for lulz. Something to the order of 5 to 10 superior ballistae depending on group size, and eventually we would stack flame rams as our defense.

Of course, those were infrequent and specific occasions: not done as a rule.

Nor will I be significantly worried to spend time standing around in the former-lake area, guarding the precious bloodlust. It’s made for take and re-take, not siege defense (except on rare occasions, like camps!)

I suspect that a great many of you have indeed been playing the game wrong!
