How a new player feels about today's changes.

These forums are always derided for being the vocal minority. But that minority has spread in-world. That minority has overrun social media. The voice is singular, unanimous: this feature pack is not welcomed. Anet has further chipped away at an already strained relationship with their existing playerbase.

Suggestion re: Gating / New Player Experience

I’m certain many vets including myself hope this would be the case. Alas, it isn’t and our final lifeline is flittering away. Reality is setting in: GW2 is not for veteran players or players wishing to experience new classes. There is no other explanation to justify the horror of not wearing diving goggles because the system thinks you’re too new.

The screenshot says it all. Ladies and gentlemen; we are witnessing the end of an MMO (or the jobs of certain upper level management heads).

I can’t possibly fathom the data to suggest new players were too stupid to click on goggles and leap from a cliff. Something has to be done about this. All of this precious development time wasted on useless gameplay limits.

Is this an early April fools joke?

Thank you, Enigma for sharing that video. I can’t think of a single MMO that treats new players like total idiots more succinctly than GW2’s “New Player Experience”.

All you guys are late to the game really when it comes to alts. The rest of us were telling you Alts were being punished last time where is everyone? Oh right they were polishing their Oath videos.

Wrong. There were rumors being spread that existing accounts (and their subsequent alts) would not be affected by this horrendous patch. Only new player accounts would be given pacifiers and taught how to walk. If ANY new character (regardless of when the account was created) is subjected to this nightmare than veterans have just been shown the door.

I’m very disappointed they didn’t release these outfits for our characters this summer.

A lot of things haven’t been released. There was a time I was ready to plunk down $10/800 gems for a swim suit. If they released them now amidst the glaring hole of real content it would do more harm than good.

So, what exactly do you wish to see? It would probably be helpful if players gave the Devs something more specific than ‘non-gear-treadmill end-game content’.

Raids. Dungeons. Post-80 continents. Unlockable secondary professions post-80 after questing. Unlockable skills post-80 through questing. Or we can just call it an expansion.

Non-Content

Vix.6730

Stop asking for “content”.
Stop asking for “an expansion”.

Be specific.

If we, the players, have to spell out what an expansion entails then we’re in for a world of hurt.

An expansion is all-encompassing. The big draws are the new lands, the new races, and the new professions. Expansions also include quests, dungeons, quality of life improvements, cosmetics and in GW’s case – achievements. Look no further than the expansions released for GW1. Take a look at what the box covers illustrated: new lands, new professions.

The Living Story is supplemental content akin to the Winds of Change in GW1. Supplemental content should in no way replace an expansion.

If ArenaNet is working on an expansion, say you’re working on an expansion. We’re not asking for particulars, nor are we asking for an ETA. In fact we’ll be happy with the “it’s ready when its ready” spiel. But something needs to get started and fast.

Endgame means doing content beyond max level, which is level 80 in GW2.

Once you reach max level, endgame is supposed to offer progression beyond leveling, or acquisition of things, whether it’s gear, leaderboards, achievements, etc.

Does GW2 have these? Yes. It’s up to the players to decide if it’s worth their time though, and not just for GW2, but other MMOs and games.

There is no endgame in GW2. The developers have made that abundantly clear back when the game was nearing launch. They sold us on the “total experience”, from beginning to end, and to some degree they hit the mark. The articles you listed as supposed end game pieces can be started at any time during your leveling experience. The only feature that could technically be called “endgame” is the Living Story Season 2, since it requires you to finish the personal story.

Is anyone happy anymore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vix.6730

Vix.6730

Yes, there are people who are happy with the game, and they’re all playing the game quietly. Forums account for a small minority of the player base in any game.

This rings true except for when those “happy players” are no longer happy. That’s when you see the forums and social media explode with discontent, like we are seeing now.

Frankly its warranted. GW2 has taken a vastly different path versus its predecessor. In some aspects it feels like the games were developed by two different companies.

Communicating with you

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Vix.6730

I know some are concerned about whether ArenaNet is communicating with you and listening and responding to your feedback. As you saw with yesterday’s announcement, we do. All of us at ArenaNet play the game with you, chat with you and read your forum posts, and work on the things that we think will most delight and entertain you.

We’ve set a clear policy in the past year: we don’t talk speculatively about future development. We don’t want to string you along. Creating fun is an uncertain business: sometimes things work out and sometimes they don’t; sometimes we go back to the drawing board over and over before we get something right. If we make optimistic promises and then can’t deliver on them, everyone suffers. So when we attend a trade show or give an interview, we’re there to talk about what we’re getting ready to ship, not to speculate on what we might ship someday.

Don’t read that as meaning that we don’t want to talk with you about the longer-term roadmap. The intention of the CDI threads is to talk with you about the roadmap. We want to talk design philosophy with you and hear how you want to see the game evolve. When those discussions trigger development, we’ll work internally until we have something we’re proud of before we’ll announce it.

A lot of the questions I’ve seen posted this week are as simple as this: does ArenaNet have an agenda to never do something? That’s almost never the case, and if it is the case you deserve to know and we’ll make sure we get more clear. In general the simple truth is this: when we’re not currently working on something, it’s because we’re working on something else instead that we think is more important for the game and community.

Our developers post on these forums on a voluntary basis, and in addition to developers, we have a community team who can clarify and be the bridge between players and developers. They’re ready to engage you on these topics. And I know it’s hard for the community team to engage players across all the forums and sites where these questions are being discussed, so I’m going to support the team in consolidating and focusing as necessary, so that we can be clear to the community where you can go to get a response.

See you in-game,
Mike O’Brien

This isnt communicating, this is saying nothing again, like always.

So how is letting SAB be permanent content compare to temp “speculative” same goes for are you actually working on broken/not finished parts of the game?

You literally didnt address the issues and basically said “we dont want to talk about them”.

They are communicating, just not what you want to hear. That is 2 different things.

Loren Ipsum would have come across as more compelling than Colin’s political speak. There is a flavor of comedy in Colin’s statement. He’s come out and “communicated” with us without actually communicating. The playerbase wants answers, not form replies.

Why I refuse to buy the Ceremonial Outfit

I am not buying it because I hate the look of it. There.

Don’t worry OP, other people are going to buy it and that is all that matters. I am sure you don’t buy everything in the cash shop, right? and guess what? the show went on.

It’s a good thing Anet’s community staffers read through ALL of the posts. The OP’s voice will be heard, as will everyone else.

Ha! So it wasn’t removed after all.

There was some discussion about them dropping still, see the last posts here.
It’s funny btw that the most expensive item in Tyria is also the least discussed item

There’s not enough hair styles to warrant spending what the contract goes for. Even as a future investment for unreleased hair styles, it’s far cheaper to spend 150 gems on a self style kit. Now if we’re talking an investment over a multiple year period maybe…

Ceremonial armor....im in awe

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Vix.6730

Vix.6730

The armor is nice. I agree with the posters who said “if I could remove this part”. Wasn’t this the base idea for the Wardrobe system? To make a good looking armor set better through customization? To achieve a unique look? Some posters in other threads can’t seem to grasp this.

Ceremonial Plated Outfit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vix.6730

Vix.6730

Like I said in another thread. The most likely answer is that the design of the outfit only lends itself to a single piece. Making it multiple pieces would have required it to look drastically different with obvious “breaks” in the armor, thus probably not as nice.

Why release the costume in the first place then? Considering the amount of vitriol this costume has generated anything less than a re-design will be a failure.

It’s a great look. People WANT to buy it, however they also want to combine elements from it with other pieces. We have a wonderful tool called the Wardrobe that supports this very endeavor yet we can’t use it. The costume is useless in its current form.

That’s a bit of an exaggeration. Useless in its current form? This is one of the best looking skins that Anet has produced, even taking into account the clipping issues and oversized shoulders. We should be encouraging content of this quality but you guys are too hung up on the fact that it’s an outfit. Why can’t people just accept that outfits and armors are two separate things both of which have their pros and cons? Outfits offer superior convenience at the cost of customization. Armors allow customization but lock you into one look barring the use of trans charges.

Not an exaggeration in the slightest. The skin is remarkable, and I’ll happily shovel 800 gems for an armor skin of this quality that can be mixed and matched. However, turning a skin like this into a costume is dumbfounding. Why develop and release a robust Wardrobe system that ENCOURAGES customization then release your best armor skin that cannot be used in it?

Where you care to admit it or not, costumes are limiting in their use, and goes against the very customization ideals Anet has established.

i recently made a list of content that has stayed.
It is quite a lot.
Most of it is of course polishing and QOL stuff, but hey. they changed the feeling of the game significantly in my opinion.
(Starting from the queens jubilee, till now)
(Excuse the weird formating, i just copy and pasted it from my document)

General Changes
- Magic find changes (accountbound stat now) and its new mechanics
- Critical damage change into ferocity
- New combat visuals, like damage markers and AoE signs for worldbosses
- Introduction of ascended armors and weapons
- Upgrade to the ascended and legendary rarities, like acountbound and stat switching
- New crafting levels with new recipes
- Complete revamp of sigils and runes
- looking for group tool
- Lot`s of UI changes, like in PvP, WvW etc…
- Trait and Tooltips now show exact numbers
- The Megaserver system
- Repair and retrait costs removed
- There is now a wardrobe in game

PvE
- Tequattle is now a Hardcore Boss
o He drops unique items and themed ascended weapons and armor
- New Hardcore Worldboss “Tripple Trouble”
o A three headed Worm, which needs around 150 coordinated player
o Has its own unique mechanics and rewards (hardest boss in game right now)
- Worldbosses got a reward overhaul as well as a timer to make them more challenging
- There is a new path in the Twilight Arbor Dungeon, themed around the living story season 1 for lvl 80 characters
o Twilight Arbor got unique skin drops
- Fractals got an upgrade
o Three new Fractals
Molten Alliance
Aetherblades
Thaumanova Reactor
o Two new Boss Fractals
Molten Berserker
Mai Trin
o Bosses appear after every run
o Fractallvl is now accountwide
o Starting at lvl 31 you get punished with an handicap called Mistlock
o Rework of Agony
o Reward reworked
- The Living Story Season 1 has concluded, leaving in its wake:
o The destruction of Lions Arch
All LA unique facilities have been moved to vigil keep
o Kessex Hills got redesigned after they introduced the tower of nightmares, which was a giant construction in the lake
o There are new events in the world, based on remnants of the living story
o New items were introduced
Watchwork sprockets
Poison pollen

WvW
- The Borderlands got a complete overhaul and a new “Bloodlust” mechanic
o There is now less water on the map, but some nice ruins and objectives to capture
- The rewards got updated to reflect changes in the game
- The WvW UI got a drastic overhaul, offering real time data
- The obsidian sanctum is now a separate zone you can log into.
o It got expanded to cater to the Guild vs Guild people
o You have the ability to party up with other servers people to finish the puzzle
- A new Map was introduced called “Edge of the Mists”
o It is always available, even if all other WvW maps are full
o It resets every two hours
o Has unique objectives
o Teammembers are based on the color they represent in WvW right now and not on server
o WvW rank is now acountbound

PvP
- Glory and armor rewards have been removed in favour of a new system
- Costs for Ranks have been adjusted
- A Complete new rewardsystem which allows for gold and items of PvE
- New Arenatype: Duell

Classes
- A lot of balancing
- A new Healskill for every class
- The Traitsystem got a complete overhaul
o Every class got 5 new grandmaster traits
o Some traits get only unlocked after you explored the world in PvE
- Critical Damage has been removed and got exchanged for a new stat: “Ferocity”

Gemstore
- A few UI Improvements
- New Hairtypes in the stylingkit
- You can now buy unlimited finisher to punish your enemies
- New Booster
- New Armors in the shop

Nope, nothing permanently changed to the game… just these minor things…

Half of your list should have been included during launch. Aside from balancing and bug fixing the game is barren of new content. Re-skinning maps and buffing existing world bosses is NOT new content. Yes, some of the Living Story was fun, but it was quick and very possible to complete in two hours or less at a casual pace. And when those two hours of fun were over so was the “new” content.

L.A's Downfall. Feelings? (Survey)

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Vix.6730

Vix.6730

A) We need more peril in PvE. Players need to feel a threat and respond to it. The Marionette was a good exercise in teaching players how to work together. Hopefully we can build on those experiences and use them for the Battle of LA, provided the events require a moderate to high amount of teamwork.

I’m happy ArenaNet is destroying something cherished and beloved. We as the playerbase community can join together, retake and rebuild the city one brick at a time, and love every moment of it.

This Friday we are hosting the Lonar’s Pass War Patrol.

It’s time once again for us to band together, and work as one unstoppable force as we move to take on all that would oppose us on Friday, September 28th, 2012. Starting time will be 7pm PST, 8pm MST, 9pm CST, 10pm EST. Everyone should start rallying up at the Nentor Waypoint at least 30min before hand. If possible, we will meet up in an overflow server.

On this run we’ll be running through all Waypoints, Resource Nodes, POIs, Skill Points, and Vistas. Any Dynamic Events that happen while we’re there will be participated in as well. This area is a 25-40 level area, so bring a character that at least meets the minimum levels; lower-level characters should bring ranged weapons.

In 2006, the Exitus Draconum (MAFB) guild was inspired by a local United States Air Force base of the same name. Initially conceived as just a rib against the base, the mission of Exitus Draconum turned serious when a Mercy Flight medical transport helicopter crashed outside their destination.

Our guild leader, Fullmana, re-dedicated the guild’s purpose to help others without question or payment. Exitus Draconum would be there to help those who needed it. This philosophy by helping new and returning members in Guild Wars 2.

So why adventure with Exitus Draconum? Meet new players, participate in guild sponsored events, and forge a path to greatness with like-minded adventurers. We offer a site featuring:

*Regularly updated Guild Wars news
