As the prior post alluded to, that 1 thread had over 10,000 posts, and not ONE post prior to the opening page had ANY reply from the devs. Instead, they offer some lame alternative than their OWN forums! (And that AMA crap, the majority of their responses were canned responses as far as I’m concerned) They already control the stream of information to the community HERE in these forums.
Consider this: one of the players took the time to create a thread to get player feedback/questions that they wanted answers to at the AMA. He creates the (extensive) list and posts it on the AMA joke. Why? Why did he even have to do that? Right there, in their own forums, they had this long list of complaints and concerns. Why not tackle that list? Why did it HAVE to be presented at that clusterfark of a PR event? As some of their answers confirmed, they KNEW they were going to have a backlash of complaints. So, why wait until Hurricane Lost Shore hits before you cover the windows and hit the storm cellar?
They have the official forums right HERE, yet the only activity from the devs is to close threads?
Case in point: this post was removed because, I can only assume, I quoted a thread that was closed. SO, I’ve removed the offensive statement, which was their response to closing the thread. Ah well, whatever.
“Constructive discussion?” They NEVER join in the “constructive discussion”. But don’t worry, “going forward”, they are “discussing the issues internally”, they have been informed of the issue and will address it soon, they….insert “empty statement that sounds like they are doing something in order to placate the masses” here!
Ya this it’s still all marketing. NCsoft long with Anet are in some deep trouble right now Anet was suppose to pan out as a significant boost for NCsoft during the third quarter, which they failed to do. Even now they continue to be a financial burden for NCsoft rather than a boost.
I imagine NCsoft has Anet’s hands tied and Anet is doing all these things as a way to market.
They just totally are throwing common sense out the window and going with marketing, marketing, marketing; money, money, money.
Well frankly Anet is just going about it really dumb. Anet uses facebook and twitter for most of their communication. As if everyone has their phone out or browser out while playing the game at the same time. I would say 1 in 1,000 or maybe 1 in 10,000 sees these things while playing. So it slowly spreads out to the community.
I’m guessing this was some part of marketing ploy to expand their reach or some nonsense.
Why not just use the Website? Big shocker.
How about using the launch program we all have to see when we launch the game? To easy.
How about using the in game mail. Way way to easy you say?
Anyone one of these options except website would bring about instant 1:1 communication rather than 1:10,000.
Come on they claim to lament the way they communicate but they are communicating like this on purpose. Either they don’t have someone in charge of communication and marketing (facebook/twitter) or they are all very dense in the skull.
Well you definitely joined at the right time I imagine the wintersday thing is going to be amazing.
There’s a lot of powers and skills that don’t quite make a lot of sense. Like stability for 3s. That doesn’t even sound right. Who’s going to know exactly when to use a 3s stability with a cooldown of 45s.
I’ve pretty much quit playing.
I might pick it back up when it gets closer to Wintersday. The reason I’ve quit is I’ve already have two 80s, not sure if I want to work on another three I might. Seems like when I hit 80 with my characters though I feel like I’m forced to grind to get their exotics, and that just puts me off almost immediately.
I think the sense of progression in this game is ultimately been ruined. GW1 had an amazing number of skills, a great capture system and a much wider variety of combat.
GW2 the combat progression is defined by how much instant kills and control abilities a mob has. I miss messing with all those skills and with all the dieing as everyone can attest to in the lovely Lost Shore event. I’m starting to miss the Trinity.
Well I think that Anet ultimately poorly planned their game and as a result found out that End Game must feel like the End. You can’t expect players to go back to these lower level zones, they want to feel like they have progressed in some way. Anet even forces players to replay zones by requiring events to open up dungeons, and to spawn dragons. Which becomes repetitive, which becomes boring.
I don’t think they thought to hard on it. They encourage this play via dailies and I’m sure they will continue to encourage returning to previous areas. They still haven’t clued in that this again does not feel like progress.
It’s a fundamental development flaw. Due to this, the only activities that are left are what are perceived as grinds. These activities that were suppose to be a side or optional thing have become the ONLY things.
I don’t think they will break from this, and I think they are two months past the point where people start leaving because of it. So at this point they have mostly the players who have stayed I’m sure their marketing team refers to these people as “hardcore” players. So Anet turns around and will develop more content as time goes on for “hardcore” players while totally missing the clues that the main stay of players are not looking for this repetitious content and that hardcore players are only doing this content because there is nothing else.
What they should have done is have no downscaling. However if you fight something or join a party with a lower level then you should down scaled.
Otherwise generally farming and exploring shouldn’t be made hard for you. I think.
That makes no sense. Might aswell not party then. They’ll still get credit for whatever it is they needed help with and your idea in general just kills the core of GW2 lvling.
Your going to have to explain. The point is not to party but to return to previous zones to explore or harvest. Otherwise general enjoy the zone for what it is an artistic piece. I don’t see how it kills the leveling. If your level 80 your not exactly going to level very far. The point of this thread is descaling. What exactly is this “core”. Most don’t party to begin with, but if your going to party you should be the parties level. Which is already the case with the game. So….lowering your level when you join a party in a lower level zone is already part of the game. So I’m not exactly getting your point. Since there is already a descaling in the game that is “core” I don’t see how it kills it.
Basically your 80 in a level 20-30 zone, but as soon as you engage in combat or join a party you immediately revert back to the max which would be 30. To prevent people from just power leveling every player in the game. It’s not like they can hold aggro without attacking. I think you should be able to wonder around as a level 80.
It’s not that great of an idea, but at least it was an idea. Cause it really doesn’t solve the problem of the fundamental under lining effect, that players feel weak as they progress at no time do players feel like they have achieved anything and they can’t even go back to lower levels to feel like they have achieved something.
Is the new confirmation box still not enough to get people to double check when they’re clicking?
Does this confirmation box show the stats and attributions of the armor you’re about to purchase in clear view?
That’s a perfect point, there are a LOT of things I would like to see change with this game this being one. I’ve never made the mistake myself other than buying things that turn out to be unique and are not marked in anyway.
I purchased an armor skin from the gem store, and it turns out I accidently sold the leggings. It didn’t even occur to me that I would be able to sell them. You can’t sell your Karma items right? You can’t sell your reward items. You can’t sell skins. So it was pretty much a fact that I couldn’t sell these $$DOLLAR$$ purchased leggings. No way ANET would let me do that, no way they would put that in game. Hell they won’t even let me let another character use the armor.
So I was messing with pieces of the gear which I store in the bank one day and notice the leggings are missing out of the bank. I’m still not sure I sold them to this day. I went straight to the vendor for buy back and didn’t see anything.
There’s a lot of common sense stuff you would take for granted that turns out that Anet doesn’t take for granted.
I think they should have separated the servers by Lions Arch. That’s like the only place that is always full. Every other zone should be thrown in a server until it’s full then another one starts to fill.
So every single zone will appear to be full at all times.
So basically if your from Gates of Madness and I’m from Jade Quarry and we both go to Gendarrin Fields we end up in the same server if no one in the entire game is playing in that zone. As more people come in they all get added to our server as it fills. Solves so many problems. When we go to Lions Arch which is the typical gather place for LFG WvW FotM and most likely every future event (except Wintersday, sort of).
This would make the game appear full at ALL times.
So in other words, essentially have the game be mostly instance-based rather than server-based? I could see how it would cause some problems for WvW – that player you teamed with for a random dungeon or world event would never be able to join you in WvW – but it would certainly address a lot of issues, not the least of which is how dead PvE zones feel on some servers. The market’s already cross-servers, so you wouldn’t even have to worry much about economic ramifications.
An interesting thought, but unfortunately it seems like far too radical a change from the system currently in place to be seriously considered. Which is a shame.
Well there are similar systems, and WoW recently started doing something similar to this after years of using the standard server set up. This could also be a great point in time to implement the guest passes that Anet was talking about so maybe that random person in your group could join you fro WvW.
All you can do is report them.
I think there are steps if I’m not mistaken. Like you do 5 of this then you can move on to 15 and so on. I could be utterly wrong though I don’t often follow when I’ve completed one.

This would make the game appear full at ALL times. I mean not only is that smarter, but on their end it would save them money.

Probably what happen, and it was a very unintelligent thing to do on Anets part. Was since Anet announced the upcoming change people bought out a TON of unidentified dyes. When I heard about it they were 2 or 3 silver a piece slowly moving up to 5 silver. If someone had a ton of gold they could buy a thousand or so and come back making HUGE profits.
You should never come out and say something is going to be dropping less, EVER. You upset the market and this is what happens.
Ya I watched someone do that, and was thinking. Wait a second why would you change gender if your name was Steve or something and you were stuck with that.
Lack of thought on Anets part if you ask me.
It take a few days to a few months to know if two people are meant to be together. Guess not for you in this case. Please tell me one game’s endgame stuffs is different every day and month.
That’s easy UO the very first MMO I played didn’t have an Endgame it was open community and the people created the content themselves. Pks pushing good people out of a mining area, let go beat those punks. Want to go cannibal and chop people and eat them (before they got sued) go for it. Hell I could get on sit down with some chaps and play chess in a tavern. Play commodity broker by purchasing out reagents and hocking them on a corner yelling prices. Go build a house. Tame Dragons.
ArcheAge comes to mind.
Though ya every MMO eventually hits a dead end where there are limited options except like UO and ArcheAge and open world games like that.
Ya I can go play those MMOs and probably will. The question isn’t about other games it’s about what does GW2 offer me?
isnt Archeage only coming out for China? it does look pretty, got to give it that
Content as GW2 can definitely tell you is worth more than graphics, also it’s Korean. It’s currently seeking a publisher for the US.
if you did all you wanted to do.
then its “game over”.
yeah, games are not meant to be played forever and ever.
unless you feel like it, of course!but asking for more, more, MORE, when you said you clear up 4 MAPS IN A DAY.
its unfair for the devs.
UO is still up, and it’s been up since 1997.
If you guys read the original post, it asks what could be added, not just how well do you think you can defend what GW2 has done so far. I haven’t seen one thought on what could be added to improve the game. I think that tells everyone a great deal. Maybe there is nothing that can be done. Maybe this is all GW2 can offer.
Hell I’d be half way ok with grinding dungeons if they remove the DR and they removed these kitten events that you have to do in order to open some dungeons. Why are those even there? Now with fractals up you might as well forget these other dungeons. With the way the servers are working I have to wait till the server fills up to even find a party. WTF even when I want to play the game GW2 is there to prevent me from playing it. Why does ANET try so hard to prevent what little enjoyment I can get from it.
Now I got to go to external websites people have made to get around the game mechanics ANET put into the game. People are paying money to host websites designed as a workaround to ANETs design. I think that is a bit of a clue that ANET needs to get on the ball.

Hey, game finally finished downloading. Is there a designated “RP” server?
No rpg server not sure if there are any major rpg guilds either.
You know this question has been on my mind ever since I saw this post. Make heck no I don’t feel powerful at all. I don’t feel tough or legendary I don’t feel like a hero at all. It seems like monsters get more powerful every level while you continue to grow inmediocrity. Often getting knocked down, pulled, pushed, often killed. They even have titles for rezzing people. Why? Who likes to die so much. Its like a game that refuses to use the classic trinity with nothing replacing it except death.
Answer no I don’t I need another 20 levels to feel decent compared to the content they place us against.
Human hands down the human are is very well made, I love their area. Asura is good and sylvari.
My character is Volomon Beddarm, if you want to help mail me in game.
Yes is the answer but I’m sure their are karma alternatives but I could be wrong.
Extremely rare. So rare its unknow. There hasnt been enough found to give an estimate.
Ya I don’t think theyll be in the BLC look at the consortium chest. They realize there were ways for people to get free keys so they didnt use the BLC the second time around.
Not really an exploit, but I wouldn’t doubt anet wanting to make it harder for us to get gpld and end up patching it.
An idea I had, originally posted in the suggestions forum but it didn’t seem to be getting much traction there.
For a lot of casual players like myself, who often only have time to login to do the dailies, the requirements for ascended/legendary gear seem to be so high that we are unlikely to achieve them in any sort of reasonable time frame.
To close the gap between the casuals and the hardcores, I had the following idea:
Make daily/monthly rewards have a chance to give a random (say 1-4 for daily, 4-10 for monthly) amount of t6 mats.
Since the daily/monthly achievements are account-bound, this won’t cause a massive drop in t6 prices and can be effectively controlled by anet.
Casuals will be able to acquire some of the t6 mats necessary for crafting ascended/legendary gear without having to grind for hours and hours to get the mats/blow all their gold on the tp.
Hardcore players will get a small bonus in t6 mats, but is ultimately insignificant compared to how much time they farm. What do you guys think?
I don’t think it makes any sense how does this close the gap, won’t hardcore players still just that much more get more t6 mats?
I’m just now realizing months after release there’s not really anything to do.
You should be playing to have fun, instead of playing in order to achieve random milestones. If you don’t enjoy any aspect of the game – if you don’t have fun in the personal storyline or doing events or doing dungeons or exploring or playing WvW or playing sPvP… Why are you playing the game in the first place?
This assumes I haven’t done much if any of these things. I have been exploring as it says in the original post, I’ve finisehd the story line twice, working on the third. WvW honestly kind of sucks. It’s just huge mash ups of groups of players with various intensities of lag. sPVP is fun but you can only do the same maps over and over before you want to shot yourself in the face. With little to no real reward, and absolutely no PVE or transferable reward to the regular game.
Why am I playing this game? Most often I don’t just assume something is going to suck before I play it. I don’t know about you. I wasn’t born psychic. I often have to play something or do something before I know about it.
Switch man the first chance a full server opens up join it. I was a few days away from quiting GW2 all together due to the sparse server I came from. At times you could be the only person in entire maps. Now there are loads of people everywhere. I’m very glad I switched. Anet is a little slow on the ball so I would switch while everyone waits for them to do something about that issue.
@Volomon.9147
lol wut? your opinion != opinions 60% of players. im a guy and i like brony-ish shortbow.
Hey I said I was gonna use it to, I’m just saying not all guys are as cool as us. Thanks for this thread just made my new character: The Fairy Fist. Totally gonna rock those items.
(edited by Volomon.9147)
Why would you ever make a legendary look like this?
Because looks are subjective. You may not like how the current Legendaries look, meanwhile others do. ArenaNet is never going to be able to make something that would please everyone. Even if there were 5 kinds of Legendary bows, I’m sure someone would complain that none of them look good.
That absolutely true, but lets pretend that just 60% of players are male playing this. Why automatically without a thought reject 60% of your customers with a rainbow pony design?
LoL I had to see what the bronie short bow looked like, now I might make a character called bronie. Make him all rainbow and pink and equip that.
maybe you should play with others too not just your wife… socialize ?
I don’t think sideline chatter and extra avatars on my screen will all that much improve the problem lack of activities. What your suggesting might enhance what is already there but in no way CREATES more activities.
map completion.. jump puzzles.. fracts.. help new players with dungeon or quests.. make a legendary, do w3 … i do all these with my guild mates , it never gets boring when your doin it with your friends
I play with my wife and I still find it to get boring quick. If she doesn’t get annoyed about the tediousness and bugs first. She’s a lot less forgiving when we run into a bug that locks up an event or we do a dungeon and we die to much or a bug prevents us from finishing it. ALT-F4 and this game can go to heck. That makes it even worse for me when I want her to play this game that’s chock full of bugs up to the gills.
Well, I think it offers a lot. Personally, I spend my time doing fractals or WvW, as well as dungeoning/trading for money to eventually get that legendary.
I know you said you don’t like WvW, but have you tried fractals? Quite fun, and I’ve been spending tons of time on it with my friends in our attempt to achieve lvl 20 difficulty.
And you can always work for a legendary. If that’s too high for you, there’s still other pretty cool weapon skins you could aim for (Foefire’s Essense, Volcanus, etc.)
To me FotM is just another dungeon and with the 1-20+ levels it’s not always easy to get in. Ya and I am working on Volcanus, working on armors. Ultimately though it’s like why? Once I’m done with that what else is there? You know there has to be a goal or else all that effort is wasted on acquiring these items that have no purpose. Fractals was fun without a doubt but after 8 times or so. I’m not all that excited about it any more.
Wintersday will probably be cool but I’ve never had an MMO where you would just show up for these monthly events.
I don’t know maybe I’m just in the wrong genre of MMOs.
It take a few days to a few months to know if two people are meant to be together. Guess not for you in this case. Please tell me one game’s endgame stuffs is different every day and month.
That’s easy UO the very first MMO I played didn’t have an Endgame it was open community and the people created the content themselves. Ya I can go play those MMOs and probably will. The question isn’t about other games it’s about what does GW2 offer me?
All these people with “small fortunes” earned them by farming before the DR was put into place.
All DR does is burn the bridge the rest of them used to get to their “1-percenter” ivory tower.
Because we don’t have the ability to gather our own mats, we’re forced to buy from these de-facto monopolies produced by the imposition of DR.
They get richer, we get poorer, and we, unlike them, are forced to the cash shop to fill their coffers.
I believe DR has been in place since the game launched and it just took time for people to advance far enough to notice it (but I could be wrong on this).
There can be no de-facto monopoly on ectos (or T6 mats) because they are quite heavily traded. I’m often buying ectos to use in crafting exotics, and I can place a buy order for the ones I need above the current buy price but below the current sell price and have if filled in less than 2 minutes. It’s a similar situation when I buy T6 mats from the TP.
Don’t worry you are wrong on it, they added it about a month or so after. A monopoly develops when you have less sources, aka adding a DR diminishes sources.
After my third dungeon or so and waiting browsing the internet while waiting for events to open up the CoF dungeon. I started thinking I’m spending all this time on attempting to get armor. What am I going to do once I have it. What do I need this for? I don’t want to play WvW with it cause I find that fairly boring in itself.
So I started thinking what can I do what could I do?
I could keep doing these dungeons for more points but I’ve already hit the 20 token DR….hmm doesn’t seem worth it now. Switch to my other 80 and grind it some more.
What else? More dungeons? Fractals?
Explore mode? But I did that all day yesterday and completed four maps.
What else?
Farming? Grinding? DR is to steep to do this so I don’t feel my time is worth spend doing these things.
I’m just now realizing months after release there’s not really anything to do.
What else is there? What else would you like to see added?
Anything but bag of gold, every noob who saw that got excited it’s a cruel joke.
Sorry, but you are wrong. If it was host side, it would be easily hackable to the point they could just copy all the magical items they want. Everything is still server side, regardless if it is instanced or not.
I wasn’t saying that you were completely disconnected from ArenaNet. You needed a constant connection to continue to play (much like you do with Diablo and Starcraft).
This connection allows them to ensure that you don’t modify the instance through hacking. This is why D3 prevents offline single-player.
That doesn’t mean Blizzard hosts every D3 single-player game. That’s just absurd thinking on your part. Likewise, ArenaNet doesn’t have to “host” instances to make sure you aren’t cheating. You “join someone else’s game” when playing multiplayer.
I’m not going to bother arguing about this any further… since it’s not at all related to my argument.
My primary argument is that they have costs (and these costs are higher than GW1).
They need to cover these costs (in addition to paying off whatever investments were made to cover development).
No offense Minos but I don’t think you know what your talking about. Especially with D3, they do host every single game. They keep graphs of every single loot item you get everything. They use these metrics to find bots and hackers. What your thinking is you run your connection they check you for hacks ect ect,. like it was punkbuster or something but that’s not how it works their running the whole environment there absolutely 0% of that content that is on your side. When you get loot your running off of a server side loot table. Everything is server side the random spawns, everything. That’s part of how they prevent you from hacking.
D3 is the worst example you could use since they have the money to provide extra services on their servers like the metrics and graphing. They have individual servers for their auction house, servers for cross game communication Wow TO D3 for example. Not only do they host all those games but they also have servers for all the extra services.
I think your title is a bit off the only one of those points that had anything to do with being 80 is 4. Other than that I agree with all of it.
4) I think they really need to up everyone’s base life or armor. Even if its only like 15% or so.
2. No open world PvP …
How is WvW not open world PvP?
Uh, because it isn’t. It’s like a set of 4 300 man instanced PVP matches, that’s it.
Not taking place on Tyria is another clue.
To me for it to be true open pvp, it should have some consequence, which is missing in GW2.
I think you guys are looking for another game, that’s not GW2. It wasn’t Guild Wars 1 and I doubt it will ever be in anything Anet related so you can just move on to another game if that’s what your looking for.
I’ve clearly played a LOT more MMOs probably like 30-50 more, but that’s another story. GW2 doesn’t even rank.
The biggest blunder so far with GW2 was having the free trail on the Karka Event. Where they couldn’t provide a good consistent game play. Anyone who got a free trail or if anyone wasn’t to embarrassed to give out trail keys went away with a bad taste in their mouth and probably one less friend for wasting their weekend.
That’s about the only major blunder so far. Anet isn’t suffering from any ONE thing there suffering from all the little things they’ve allowed to add up.
Hi everybody, I don’t post in this forum often enough but I need to ask you all something:
The whole point in getting exotics and legendaries is to get cool skins, right?
If Anet introduced ascended gear, why do you think that the exotics that you acquired become obselete? Can’t you transmute them into your ascended? Isn’t that what legendaries and exotics are for?If exotics is for looks and ascended is for stats, why can’t you just have the best of both worlds and transmute the two together?
1. Exotics are not obsolete because the new ascended tier is exorbitantly overpriced it cost alot of money for the ectos and t6 mats so not everyone is going to have it
2. Yes you will be able to transmute them
Personally ima ignore ascended items and continue working on my legendary Anet will probably pull another excuse and introduce another tier of gear eventaully
Just want to point out you get a ring at FotM 10 and another at 20 also you can get Ascended items from the dungeon drops as well. Not being able to afford it doesn’t remove the fact that they are better.
Bizarre question. First off the point of Exotics is not cool skins its for the stats. Legendaries is for the cool skin. Anet is not iffing to add ascended gear they did add ascended gear. They do make Exotics obsolete because since Exotics are stat based and Ascended have better stats that essentially makes them obsolete.
Ya I’m going to have to agree, at first I was thinking it would be a god send. I didn’t think they were going to 100% remove the ability to manage threat and healing but it seems they did.
At least you wouldn’t think people would drop left and right but everyone falls on the ground eventually without the mechanic it seems like everyone’s just prone to dropping dead. It’s just been replaced with the ability for everyone to rez instead.
I think in the end what they promised and the reality of what is in the game is different. Not everyone wants to die constantly.
Really bandwidth is nothing these days, Google has been rolling out 100GB networks. Granted it’s only in Kansas so far but bandwidth will continue to go down in price.
its not server costs dude, its bandwidth. THAT is the kicker. something most f2p diehards fail to realise hence why f2p is a fail design.
Not really, maybe in the 90s, but since the 2000s, bandwidth for companies isn’t that big of a concern.
Think of it this way, Netflix can charge 8 bucks a month for unlimited streaming(and that uses WAY more bandwidth then an MMO)… and they’re making a ton of money.
um dude thats movie streaming vs having actual game servers. /facepalm.
anyway. bandwidth is what costs, and since anet cannot back up anyones hacked account with whatever was stolen then i’d take a sub fee if it ensured that security.
anyone that plays an mmo and the company has no way of restoring their entire account are wasting their time.
Actually I think Nasty is right, I mean streaming via Netflix or some other service is like up to 8gb (compressed) streaming for a 1080p video. The Bandwidth for these games like WoW and stuff really was never a problem even in the 90s. Where the subscription was $9.99 average. Look at Call of Duty for instance although they use Peer to Peer in most instance except for BO2. They still run dedicated servers.
The bandwidth requirement for a game is only heavy during patching and updates. What are you sending to their servers nothing but clicks and keyboard presses. Basically stuff that can be broken down into binary. Your not streaming entire movies back and forth and your not streaming the video graphics that you see on your PC. Even still a company can still stream that level of graphics for $9.99 a month and more than covers the bandwidth. These games use to run off of 56k modems. So there’s not really much bandwidth there. In fact there is really no EFFECTIVE BANDWIDTH requirement there is only the need for a lagless connection or (no losses). Your not really sending anything and your not receiving anything except position updates, loots, and other very minimal stats.
Free servers use to be the average thing, they’ve only recently started charging money for these kinds of things with rented servers ala Counter-Strike and have become mainstream to the point where people accept a price for them with Xbox360 and it’s services.
So in conclusion your wrong.
(edited by Volomon.9147)
Ya I think fishing would be a great idea. It should be included in an expansion and done right. I say with an expansion because I can see it being effective for getting above the current Cooking Cap.
Change the name of Bag of Gold to Bag of Silver other wise put at least one gold in a Bag of Gold.
Ohya got so use to it forgot it was there. In fact I have to go back in just to check.
