i was wondering what you guys are thinking about passive stunbreaks in competitive pvp.
For me a well timed CC to interrupt an enemy´s Keyskill is one of the best and “hardest” things you can do in pvp while still taking care of myself ( dodging other attacks etc ).
So passive stunbreaks sometimes hinder your CCs to actually work, which can have drastic consequences. Trying to interrupt for example an Evis from a Warrior is often a real bad idea and will hurt a lot. You will get punished for trying to interrupt a Keyskill. You will be punished for being able to react in time.
In my opinion if passive stunbreaks really have to stay in the game at least make them visible somehow, so you dont trust in a mechanic that won´t work.
What do you guys think?
The difference between the 1500 range burst from a ranger to for example a backstab from a thief is you can easily avoid the backstab. The thief has to be close range, so he risks his life. You only need one dodge and pressure the thief yourself. You cant pressure a target in 1500 range.
People saying you just need to learn how to face a ranger. But its not about 1on1s here. Its about the burst from range. It is just too easy without having any risk. And there is no escape for many classes. You have to play very aggressively against a power ranger. If you run you die. Not many classes can just use 3 leaps (warrior) to escape. Stealth wont work against a good ranger. WvW is mostly an open field so the ranger just have to follow u while hitting you with 3k autoattacks.
Lets say you roam and suddenly 4 or more enemies appear. If one of them is a ranger you`re probably dead. You cant attack a ranger aggressively when there are 3 more enemies so you run and die. Thats for me the big Problem. The certain death just because of a guy using autoattack. Before that patch roaming was something else :/
The suggestion to just equip every block, gapclose and reflect skill is just the wrong way.
Why should there be a class in a gamemode which forces other classes to completly change their builds for?
well my post wasnt really about rangers in a zerg but if you can really help your zerg with a ranger then i have no problem with that
well you`re right its not only because of the lack of AoE damage but that other classes can contribute more.
What a ranger party can do is sniping the commander but i would even put that on the contra list
I have fun with my ranger in wvw, the damage buffs are really nice, its not hard to counter rangers rapid fire, blocks, blinds, terrain obstructions, reflects, gap closers, retaliaton, cc’s, etc etc. Dropped a zerker ranger with my necro last night in 5seconds. They are predicatable, so it makes it easier to counter. Pets could def use an overhaul, pretty much useless in zergs, I use ranged pets particularily spiders for zerging, mainly for the poison fields. Pets are essentially useless outside small team/solo stuff.
Yes you can counter rapid fire easily but no when there are kilometres between you and the ranger

since there is no Balance forum anymore, i am mostly relating to WvW and dont want to post it in the ranger forum where everyone is just PRO ranger i have to post this in here.
With the last balance patch the power ranger got buffed. Among other things both the Longbow and the Greatsword damage got increased.
PvP: You now see some power rangers in unranked and even some in ranked matches (mostly solo Qs). But there are no power rangers in the top teams.
Most power rangers just feed the enemy team. And it is no coincidence that most people hate to see a ranger in their team (There is right now a Thread up “which Class you hate the most in your team”). Since there is no big open field on most maps Rangers cant benefit that much from their Longbow Damage as in WvW.
PvE Dungeons: Since i dont play many dungeons i cant really say something about this gamemode. I think rangers do decent melee damage and can contribute some Precision for their team.
WvW: Now you see a lot more Rangers in this gamemode than before. Since Rangers aint got much AoE they are pretty useless in WvW Zerging but they are present in Roaming. And with present i mean there are at the moment more Rangers running around than any other class. And they are all power rangers.
In WvW most Power Rangers use Longbow as one of their Weapon Sets. Traited it has a range of 1500. When u face a power ranger u already lost half of ur life before u can get to him or even see him except u used some big cooldowns or at least 2 dodges and some gapclosers. Stealth wont help since their biggest Damage skill “Rapid Fire” is a channeling Skill.
Although a ranger buff was really needed before the patch i think it went the wrong way. At the moment we have a class that does not have to set up their burst.
With one Skill they can kill anything while there is no skill rotation or CC needed.
When you finally get to the ranger he could still use his Knockback or he just uses his now pretty decent melee Weapons which aint got any disadvantages anymore to those from other classes.
So now you`re in melee range, used many skills to get there and the actual duel starts. I wouldnt say a ranger now definately wins the fight but if the two players are on the same skill level he at least has some advantages.
In my experience you have pretty good chances to win against a power ranger when u play very aggressive. If you dont attack the ranger or if you cant get closer you are dead.
Since there arent many 1on1´s or even fair fights in WvW the Problem gets even bigger.
While you can avoid the most damage from other zerker classes with 1 dodge or 1 defensive skill in the right moment the ranger´s rapid fire just laughs about your few defensive abilities.
Oher classes need to get close to do much damage. They need to set up combos, bait dodges, use CCs for burstskills etc.
People dont like Rangers in their Group cause they have to stay far away to do damage
-> not close enough for Any Combos or a fast rez
People dont like Rangers as enemies cause they do such insane damage from far away
-> totally destroys high risk high reward
I think the way the Longbow works has to change. The Autoattack shouldnt increase in damage so strong with a big range and shouldnt decrease in that amount while being close to the enemy. Also the rapidfire skill shouldnt be such a long channeling skill while moving. Either you change it to one very hard hitting visible arrow or the ranger has to stand still. And the 1500 range is definately the wrong way to go!
The fact that Power Rangers arent in the PvP meta or close to that even though the damage got increased massively shows us that the Rangers arent as effective as other classes in other areas and for future buffs anet should maybe focus more on group support or Synergy. You cant just increase the damage on some Weapons to put the class in a better spot cause it wont help and just destroys other gamemodes like in this case WvW roaming.
I know WvW Roaming is just a small area in gw2 but after the white swords change it´s even more important and i see many people moaning about the current state.
Even some main rangers aren´t pleased about the faceroll changes!
What are you´re thoughts about Ranger in WvW?

So when you got CCd and use a skill that ports you but doesnt break stun like Lightning Flash or Phase retreat it sometimes happens that you cant move anymore. Its very very annoying. The only way to fix it is to write an emote or use a mobility skill.
As you can imagine writing an emote in the middle of an combat isnt the best idea and often gets you killed.
And no its not only the duration of the Crowd Control that you cant move, it takes forever.

this is a problem with all legendary weapons. For me the worst are the legendary greatswords on Mesmer. you just cant identify any animation.
Hopefully we will get an option to turn off legendary effects in pvp/wvw.
With the Standard Model System there won´t be legendary´s at all but i guess there ´s no plan yet to only deactivate the effects.
since PU is only “viable” in smallscale wvw the best alternative is shatter mesmer
With the S/D thief nerf shatter mesmer will lose their worst nightmare. Its still difficult to play but maybe mesmers get an alternative with the new balancepatch :P
theres no problem with mesmer stealth! only with the PU trait so nerf that one.
Id love to see Phantasms just despawning after one attack and a short time ( enough time to use them for shatter etc) Theres no place for AI only builds!
So im always testing new builds for my mesmer to not only doing damage but support the team. Im mostly relating to 5-7 men smallscale since thats what my guild does. We are mostly playing against much bigger groups so the more support you have while still doing damage the better it is.
In my opinion its the explicit duty of a mesmer to rip off boons cause thats what mesmers are perfect for, so i have to go for 4 in the first traitline (shattered concentration)
Since only shatter does any damage in a teamfight u have to use it so my next 4 points have to go into the second traitline (deceptive evasion) to actually have some clones to shatter.
Now with only 6 points left i got the “choice”. There are some different Grandmastertraits which are suitable for shatter.
The most popular one for the shatter mesmer is Illusionary Persona (XI Illusions)
Thats unfortunately the only Trait which is worth using it.
I´ll explain why:
The Grandmaster trait Maim the Disillusioned (XIII Illusions) is just to less condition pressure. the duration is far too short for being useful. Yes you stack confusion too on shatter but theres the same problem. When you compare the duration of the Mesmers´s confusion from shatter to the confusion of that warrior trait on interrupt, engeneers confusion or even the stupid rune…..its pathetic. Maybe you can kill some people without any condiremove with it but dont expect to have condition pressure like a necro for example.(I tried some hybrid builds too with moderate success)
Imbued Diversion ( Illusions XII) might be useful in some situation in a small area for example in spvp on a point, but most of the time you wont approach anything with it since the Diversion cooldown is far too high for that Grandmastertrait.
The other “Shatter” Grandmaster traits are on the Inspiration Traitline. Here comes the big Problem. Remember we only got 6 points left. When we r using all of them for Inspration, we aint got any in the Traitline Illusions, which makes our Shatter CDs go up till they are useless.
The Inspiration “Shatter” Grandmaster Traits are Anets attempt to make shatter more supportive, so thats what i was actually looking for!
Shattered Conditions (Inspiration XI) makes every of your shattered clones remove one condition from everyone on your team in a range of 600. Awesome!
Restorative Illusions ( Inspiration XII) is more a selfish trait. You heal urself on shatter. Id love to test it if there were not that big problem.
We still aint got any points in Illusions so we shatter once in a lifetime.
So there are some different ways to fix this:
Replace shattered concentration or deceptive evasion to the Illusions Traitline or place the GrandmasterTraits which are suitable for shatter into the illusion Traitline.
Since we aint got enough Grandmaster Traits for the second proposal Id suggest to replace shattered concentration or deceptive evasion.
The effect would be much more different shatter builds. At the moment theres only one or its inefficient.
So you cold say if u wanna support your team then use Mantras.
For an efficient Mantra support build on the other hand you need 6 in Dueling for Harmonious Mantra (Dueling XI) and 4 in Inspiration for Restorative Mantras (Inspiration X). 4 Points left. What you wanna do else while supporting your team? Rip off boons! So 4 in Domination. And yet again the same Problem. No points in Illusions and we can forget shattering so the enemies can be happy with their boons!
And when u say. Hey a supportive build dont have to rip off boons too dont have to do damage and so on. But the support is much too low to compete with other supportive builds from other classes. So there would be no point to use the support mesmer anyway.
In my opinion Replacing Shattered Concentration into Illusions Traitline would solve many problems Mesmers have right now. It would cause much more Team Build diversity with still efficient Builds and isnt that what we all wanna have?
although i was only talking about a smallscale group, the support builds would obviously work in a wvw zerg too. In tpvp i dont think of any possible support mesmer meta any time soon but!! there would be some different Shatter mesmer builds cause you would have the free selection of more Traits while still doing what a mesmer has to do: Damage and Shattering boons!

And yet something like PU is still entirely relevant in actual PvP content. That is, group fights.
It also takes way too long to kill anyone.
Yup PU wont get any nerf till there are some new pvp gamemodes thats my guess x)
the problem with pu isnt AI as often said but its the boosting of the already strong enough stealth “buff”, which makes a good PU being unkillable against not only 1 but at least 2 enemies. Only a big and well timed CC chain is able to wreck those. Therefore you could describe it as Bunkerbuild if there wouldnt be the fact that you cant hold a point in stealth so everythings okay right? no cause theres another problem. Pu mesmers still deal too much damage for someone who cant be killed by 2 people!
First there were the “Stealth Reset” Thieves which still exist :S (same problem with them) now we got PU running around everywhere in wvw.
Most people dont even fight them nowadays cause they know its vain.

a sd thief with the same skill lvl beats a shatter mesmer in most cases for sure. But that doesnt mean u cant kill many of those and you have to start running those lame traits too. Everyone loves to run the easiest builds, that doesnt mean they are able to play it… even though its hard with shatter i dont see the reason why you should play pu and phantasm builds cause of that cO
i watched a week ago Teldos stream, he was in a 1on1 arena with seizer and lord helseth and watched the duel between those a bit. helseth won many of those fights , even though he curses all sd thieves
and they are both top players. Maybe teldo recorded it you should have a look.
Running a solo or 1on1 build with mesmer means in most cases ur useless in teamfights I personally would rather ask for somebody´s help against the thief and actually do something in teamfights with awesome damage instead of going stealth all day long till everyones kittened and leaves me alone
its more like noone cares about PU mesmers , when i see one i just go on . they cant burst you down they are just there like a tree or something.
please dont advise a fair and square shatter mesmers to play Pu or phantasm builds :S
you can beat s/d thieves with shatter too, kite him a bit wait for his first heal then wait for the sword 3 kombination after the evade interrupt the burst strike and use mindwreck combined with mirror blade for example. That maybe wont kill the thief but he will retreat and maybe u can get a luckshot and bring it to an end.
In my opinion the best weaponset against a s/d thief is greatword sword/sword.
You can let the thief run into ur blurred frenzy got a block and still nice ranged damage with gs when the thief retreats. Id personally run with mirror images decoy and blink against a thief. Try to use mirror images right after his 3 evade like mirror blade or combined and wreck him :p
like i said above the meta is always played most but other classes still got some more viable builds than the meta.
im roaming with a full zerk shatter mesmer solo with 44006 with Gs/ Sword/torch
its pretty hard in 1onX but its worth it in my opinion. You cant beat every spec with it tbh. For example condi thieves are ur death (if u rly stay to fight them) but all in all it is still viable and isnt it fun to oneshot whole enemy groups? :P. The reason i dont play Pu is cause i think its lame

the fact I name mesmer in particular is that other classes could use other traits and still be viable. Ofcourse the meta is always played most but there is a reason why there was never another build for mesmer since beta^^
Walls spawn at the location of where it was casted, the presumption is if a wall is nearby the enemy zerg then an educated guess would be that it is not a friendly wall.
In a fight lets say 5vs5 in a small area there arent two different fronts where you could easily distinguish between friendly and hostile feedbacks/walls
im sorry that you understood me wrong i was talking about tpvp. Where you have to be useful in teamfights and still perform ur other duties (Boon Remove, Portal). Thats in my opinion unfortunately the only reason to use a mesmer right now in tpvp. You can build the strongest 1on1 builds with mesmer but in the moment more enemies(and teammates) join the fight ur getting more and more useless cause your damage drops rapidly. If ur happy with your build and think its useful then keep on using it but in my opinion the only viable option is shatter and therefore id love to have some more diversity in the builds, cause 99% of the mesmers are running the same.
well there arent many effective pvp builds 44600 with interrupt is used by some or a mantra build but only a few peeps running that
You wont see any of those in top teams.
When you arent using a shatter build ur using a phantasm or condi build.
Phantasm builds are fortunately very bad in tpvp cause ur phantasms die in aoe.
condition builds are annoying for the enemy ok but there are better classes for that at the moment.
There are thousands of lame mesmer 1on1 builds but that does not mean they are viable in tpvp
So there is only one Build (except the interrupt build maybe) viable for a mesmer in pvp and thats shatter with the traits 4 4 0 0 6 and thats because there are three important traits u have to use:
VII in Domination
Shattered Concentration: Shatter Skills also remove a boon on hit
X in Dueling
Deceptive Evasion: Create a Clone on your current position when you dodge
XI in Illusions
Illusionary Persona: Shattering Illusions creates the Shatter effect on you as well
the only way right now is to use some traitpoints from the Illusion traitline which makes the mesmer even more squishy.
So it would be nice if at least one of those traits would be moved to the adept tier, so mesmers could play more builds.
even in beta where noone knew how to dodge the builds were more offensive.
Using Zerker gear does not mean getting oneshotted every time. You just know how to play and i guess after 2 years we could expect that.
You actually have to pay attention to your opponent, their defensive CDs, their Boons, and both team’s positioning on the map.
Why do you have to pay more attention to what a defensive enemy does than what a zerker does. the fights are longer against defensive players so you maybe can use some skills more often but thats it.
Those High defensive builds with still crazy damage force other players to play the same. Even if you´re a good zerker player it gets harder and harder.
ye i know i can salvage those weapons but i just like to stock some for when i need them.

nah unfortunately not. i guess i just end up not opening the little blinking boxes on the bottom right like many other pvp players do. :/
Since the big reward system change in pvp i selected one dungeon way with the (for me) most useful stats redid this one every time. So in the end i got many armor and weapon boxes which i dont need at the moment but mabye in future. And now my bank is blowing. You could say just do another way for some skins u need but cause of the former reward system pvp players already got most of the skins.
So it would be wonderful if we could just stack up those weapon and armor boxes!

at the moment you cant distinguish between the enemies and your feedback and reflectionwall. They totally look the same. The end effect is that everybody on the field is scared to use a projectile and not just your enemy except you announced the skill in teamspeak which isnt always possible.
Maybe there could be 2 different colour variations, friendly reflectionwall in blue/hostile in red.
Edit: for not losing the characteristic blue/purple colour of the respective class it could be just a red frame

guardians are pretty much the strongest “burst” 1on1 class and dont worry about mobility with a meditation build and scepter
withoutout scepter u could be right a guard is kiteable.
Standart setup is greatsword scepter/focus, just give it a try
- Mesmers complain about survivability when all they bring is zerker ammy. Who’s fault is that? There are exactly 328 points of defensive stats in that ammy. You think you’re supposed to be able to 1v1 with that? LOL
- Guardian is a teamfighter. I don’t know why any Guardian wouldn’t want 6 points in Virtues for team condi cleanse, aoe stab, and near perma retal. They get better the bigger the fight, and they have symbols to do a lot of damage in teamfights. They’re fine. If you don’t want to be a teamfighter, play another class.
- PU Mesmer extends the fight, but they can be beaten. My Necro build can 1v1 PU mesmer and embarrass them. The key to beating them is boon rip. If you corrupt boon, path of corruption, and spinal shivers, interrupt mass invis, and use marks to build life force they’re meat.
- I’ll 100% agree that warriors being able to reset so easily is bad for the game. It’s like if Necro had Portal or something. They have healing signet, stances, and cleansing ire, so it is not good for the game to be able to reset the fight with Sword, GS. The class has changed a lot since launch – back then Warriors needed to reset to survive, but now they can stay in the fight against anyone. The mobility has to be nerfed.
- Mesmers and Necros have no excuse losing to an Axe/Sword Longbow warrior. You can take their stability away, pass the condis back to them, and CC chain them while doing plenty of damage if you build more intelligently. My Necro build does not lose to them, and my Mesmer build doesn’t either.

First of all maybe you understood me wrong, this is no QQ thread, i just played this game long enough and wanna point out that some traits in this game arent beneficial for balance and fun in this game in my opinion.
Im playing full zerker Shatter mesmer 20 20 0 0 30 in wvw and spvp and i never complained about surviveability. I actually think thats perfect how it is. And yes 1on1s are possible with it , even 1onXs cO
To your next point, using 6 points in virtues is possible for sure, but the common and much more supportive way is playing an AH guard with condi remove on shouts

Yes PU mesmer are beatable. best way is a CC chain and boon rip. A necro is perfect for that job. Other classes got a harder time with those. With my shatter for example i got a big damage spike all 10 seconds with mind wreck. with 3 clones up i can easily eat 2/3 of the health (PU is in Chaosline so 300+ Toughness) After that i can interuppt the heal and maybe if im lucky mass invisibility. If everything works perfectly a phantasm hits too and my CoF does the rest. Allright but hey even a PU mesmer can dodge and if 1 thing goes wrong this fight will never end. When that PU is back in stealth he got perma protection and perma reg and my damage skills are on cooldown. That build normally got 3 stealth utility skills + torch 4. Even for a full zerker its hard to deal enough damage to actually hurt the PU between the “not in stealth”- phases (same goes for the thief with shadows rejuvenation)
Next to the sword 4 skill. Its all about what one single skill which is hard to dodge should or should not do to your enemy. Even if u got a condition remove ready u really need to use it after that one skill no matter if the user got condition gear or not. And you have to endure the first stacks of torment cause that effect takes his time.
To your mesmer build: I would NEVER run that^^ cause of the lack of boon remove. Its just the duty for a shatter mesmer to rip those boons. And you really lose much damage with it. Sigil of battle isnt the best for mesmer too, there i would suggest you the sigil of air. When you need more toughness never get it with ur traits but with your gear!
Guardian isn’t good in any situation. If you need a dps, don’t look to a guardian. If you need condition damage… the worst one.
The guardian is the only class bounded to a single role: defensive supporter.
It’s a good class, bu you can’t say that a guardian is good in every situation and don’t need a lot of balance (or love).
You have only 2 viable builds: Shouts and Meditation. And Meditation only if you play dps. Then is better to don’t use it. We can also use Consecration, but only sometimes and 99% of the time is Wall of Reflection.
Signets and Spirit Weapons can’t be used to make a build. That’s why if you’re not in a defensive build or a defensive hybrid you’re pretty useless and inefficent and you die quickly.ANet developers can say what they want but Guardian NEED Changes.
Guardian does so much dps. It has the 3rd dps ranking in gw2 right after ele and thief cO what you can check in any pve speedrun thread..
And why the hell do we need a Condition Guardian?
Guardian can play an awesome supportive role, can deal crazy damage and has awesome passive heal abilities. How many more roles should he be able to play?
you said guardians can only play shout and meditation. But there are so many different variations for the guard to play these two ways. In my opinion thats unique for the gw2 classes. There are many good ways to place your traits for a guard.
thieves and warriors are faster than guards fo sure but if u play with meditations and 1handsword + gs you got 2 ports + 1 leap . in addition to that u can use traveller runes and in the end ur speed isnt that bad^^ (and your damage is higher than with war)
warrior has higher damage. it’s not even close. Guard has the disgusting amount of free sustain and boons.

i know many mesmer feel a bit vulnerable against big pressure without using PU. But in my opinion there should be a better way to defend themselves. For example in reducing the 3rd and 4th shatter cooldown.
Its just an imbalance between damage output and defense there the way it is now.
After seeing that Balance Philosophy Livestream i just needed to point out what changes the classes really need in my opinion
mesmer:
-Phantasm build nerf – There souldnt be a way to play where you just cast 2 phantasm with maybe a CC and then just kite… wait for ur next Phantasm and go on kiting. How can you seriously want that —? change the way Phantasms work / let them just use one attackchain and let em despawn after a few seconds so u can still shatter them
-Pu Trait nerf – Isnt stealth enough to take an advantage upon ur oponent? does it really has to be perma protection and Regeneration + aegis ? u cant kill a smart playing PU (most in wvw arent smart though…)Do we really wanna have an unkillable opponent with pretty decent damage?
(I am main Mesmer myself and really know what this class should be able to do and what not)
-Autoattack is at the moment by far the lowest damage of all classes ( only gs with max range is pretty decent) so a buff there would be a nice change
-the AoE dmg is pretty low but hey not every class should be able to do massive aoes.. so thats ok in my opinion
-the utility skills could be more supportive for the team though but there were some good changes in the last patch so its hopefully on a good way
Thief:
-Same as for the mesmer (Pu) the Trait Shadows Rejuvenation : WHY should there be a way to deal a massive amount of dmg without risking ur life in any situation?
I know there are so many bad players out there u can kill even if they use that trait, but offering that way to play is just wrong.
Warrior:
-lack of mobility seriously? even a thief has to make a big effort to be as fast as a warrior.
But shouldnt be a HEAVY armor class the slowest class? just think about it..
-and seriously nerf the offhand sword torment skill. Without using any condition gear ur dealing like 5k damage + the skill is hard to dodge
Ranger:
-well the pet is in most situations and game modes really useless, there should be a way for the ranger to control the movement and skills more with F1-F4. To make the pet just stronger would be just stupid. it needs more surviveability and more usefulness
-the 1hand sword autochain is pretty useless in pvp even if u get used to it
-overall i think ranger is one of the best one on one classes with awesome surviveability. so make some changes to pet control etc and its a decent class for at least pvp /wvw roaming
in pve dungeons u can deal a lot of damage with ranger if u know how, the stupid warriors shouting for other warriors will never learn it..
-so only thing is the utility of this class in Zerg wvw, there we need big changes though

- pretty strong with condition and zerker damage in pvp and wvw / really hard to deal with in 1on1s
i think its one of the strongest classes but dont nerf it cause its strong make others better
the only nerf goes hand in hand with my wish of a condition damage nerf
..cause condi spam cant be the answer for everything in pvp
i guess anet wanna make condi dmg a good alternative to zerker in pve but 1st Why do we need that and 2nd then we would need a separation between pvp and pve
