“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
A nice helpful insight post, sadly this won’t stop very vocal entitlement ranters.
This post wasn’t supposed to stop that specific demographic. It’s for all the people who read and never post. Those people now have some extra information on which to judge how seriously to take specific rants.
There are some very good critical posts on these forums. And then there are people who just want to either troll, or they’re so convinced their viewpoint is some sort of majority opinion (or even worse better than everyone else’s opinion).
And there are a lot of people out there who do believe what they read without much question. So showing both sides of the story is always a good idea.
A little further explanation: there are people out there that will complain no matter what. They are unreasonable and you should take their opinion with a grain of salt. The other side of they coin are people that will be happy no matter what: take their opinion with even more salt
The best advice I can give to people reading the forums is to close them, search for hard facts and make their decisions based on them

You are right, we shouldn’t give attention to attempts to derailing the thread
Interestingly enough not many people did seem to miss SAB until the interview yesterday, and yet now it seems like it is the most missed thing ever released in the game.
Source pls? Or is it yet another unsubstantiated claim?
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
You could farm like crazy and get ascended, or do the (long and challenging) SAB W2 for virtually no reward.
No, I wouldn’t like to compete with my friends in PvE. But thanks for asking. lol
Every time this thread comes up, more people are against it than for it. Which would make it not an essential feature in my book.
“People not wanting duels is irrelevant”
Day 1, a decent response has yet to be produced. I don’t blame you Vayne, the argument you decided to support is kind of idiotic. Just admit that it is and all be well, try to divert as usual with “they were out of their area of expertise” or whatever, instead of parroting that bovine waste with a straight face.
Or it may have.
Who knows?
Besides another very good argument that someone made on reddit was that by Vayne’s reasoning it would mean Arenanet considers a good chunk of its playerbase (big enough to avoid implementing 1st person) as drooling idiots. And I don’t believe nor want to believe that they do.
I know right nexxe?
MMOs like GW2 are all about immersion! The plethora of animations and emotes, lack of loading times, free-form interaction with environment & players, lack of 1st person view, realistic & lore-friendly clothes clearly show what GW2’s focus is!
I knew I’d get along well with you when you read “wolf” in your name
Anyways, wasn’t the pvp tutorial upgraded with China release? I recall them saying they were working on better tutorials 1y ago.

Yes I suggest putting them through something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSS5dEeMX64

I gotta go now, but I can lend my boombox for the cause another time, lol
Almighty Internet is pleased with your cat picture offering. It said that your cat is particularly cute and fluffy, and as such, his opinion on anything should be highly regarded.
However the forces of evil (moderators) lurk so we shall end this exchange here.
The game is not foolproof, and nothing can be 100% foolproof. Fools are really ingenuous. And you are supporting gutting features in a game because fools would misuse it, which is an entirely different thing from making games foolproof. A simple pop-up that says “1st person mode is only for taking screenshots” would be enough for anyone but the terminally fool. And you know it, so stop being intellectually dishonest.
Most people don’t want first person to fight while using it. I’m not arguing that GW2 is designed to be played in first person and I dare you to quote one forum post that says it. That’s a strawman you are putting up to better defend your undefendable position. Most people want it to admire the view and take screenshots. For those that want to fight while using it, it is their prerogative to do so like it is mine to set all graphic options to max and play at an unplayable 10 FPS (something fools could do yet they are allowed to). This takes care of your 2nd and 4th paragraph.
Whether GW2 players want something or not is not relevant to GW2 devs? Really? What is relevant then? The random passersby request? Why do you think we got LS journal and ascended and different commander tags…You could argue that it’s not the only thing to value when deciding the priority of different features, and I would agree with that. Your statement however is so nonsensical I’m baffled you typed that.
Wheter or not we “were supposed” to get it, whatever that means, is not relevant. We were supposed to have the best statistical loot by level 80 too, yet as you can testify, things change.
What is relevant is pros & cons of implementing the feature. The pros are that it’s already implemented and that an unspecified number of people want it. What you’ve come up so far for cons (stupid people would misuse it) doesn’t cut it, I’m sorry.
On a different note: I myself don’t really care a lot about 1st person. I would undestand why it would not be their top priority. I care however about nonsensical apologetic arguments for the terrible reason they’ve given in the interview.
P.s. are you a writer of the “Ken Ham” variant? Because if that’s the case I’ll politely withdraw, I lack the patience and the eloquence.
@Tachenon: Giff picture of cat plx
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
Personally, I’d love to see first person point of view in the game, but you have to know there are a ton of clueless players out there who would get into that view, not realize it’s not the main view, hate the game and leave. That’s why we really can’t have nice things.
Really bad argument, I thought you would come up with better ones. I won’t even go into debunking it for “players are stupid” is a common excuse in the gaming industry and you can find people more eloquent than me that got it covered.
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
@TheMaskedGamer:
I see no overreaction: most people are simply asking Arenanet to open SAB in its current form. That requires little effort & time, so your argument really doesn’t work. I for one would love to see W3 & W4 but I can totally understand why they would stop development on it.
People are capable of more than one opinion of something. A concept entirely foreign to some people apparently…
Of course. It is rather unusual for said opinions to be exactly opposite each other though. Don’t you think?
The fact remains that there are people on these forums that complain about everything, even if it was something they earlier on demanded to be done. Simply for the sake of complaining.
Don’t worry you and a few others got the other side covered. So the precious forum balance is restored.
@ Guhracie: Agreed. But W1 was a smashing success metric-wise, so I think they really wanted to continue working on SAB after W2. I feel really bad for Josh
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
So much love for SAB here, but from what I recall world 2 was universally hated.
Your memory is (not surprisingly) faulty. World 2 was certainly less popular than the first, but I still saw plenty of people doing it even with the terribad rewards.
Personally, I think the depth & lenght of W2 made it much better than W1.
Called it 6 months ago.
Metric-men saw the numbers drop (due to god-awful rewards and higher difficulty mostly) and decided to discontinue the project. A shame, but I can’t diss them. What I can and will diss them for however is keeping it closed for 1+ year for no reason.
On an unrelated note, why make story the central focus of an MMO when they are so not-suited for the task?
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
Everytime Hamfast posts I shed a tear. Ty for making these forums a better place <3
(Biased SAB-lover that still has to 100% explore world 2)
I agree, but make it really prestigious. None of this “repeat easy-to-average content 1000 times”. An item obtained that way holds no prestige to me.
It is mainly the same people writing in all of those threads complaining about this change after all, so I wouldn’t really say the community overall (not even the forum one) is up in arms about it.
Only a number of people are against the change, so I can entirely dismiss them and their argument on my baseless assumption only.
You don’t know the numbers, you haven’t asked every single forumer. So trying to discredit someone’s point of view by claiming that it’s shared only by a minority is not only a fallacy, but it’s dishonest.
If you can’t come with any decent argument other than “Almighty Arenanet knows more than us and works in mysterious ways, so they are right and you are wrong” please avoid posting entirely. I’m getting fed up with people defending for the sole reason of defending.
Also nice to see that other guy I won’t name but you will spot it with his agenda-driven baseless bashing on PvP players. See, this guy has a bad attitude and is a PvP player, so this is the sole reason people don’t play PvP. Brilliant.

That is a misinterpretation of Newton’s first law of motion but I suspect you are being sarcastic
Another vote for SAB. Don’t need World 3, just exactly as it was, and ideally permanent. (obviously world 3 and 4 and the red and purple SAB skins would be awesome though).
As for the people who are asking for it not to be turned on, or for no rewards… why? It’s already made. Why would you want to deny people fun just because you don’t enjoy something?
Because that’s not how the world works. “Turning it on” takes time, resources and money that are desperately needed in other parts of the game. Your request actively makes my experience worse.
Why are you trying to deny me the game that I purchased as advertised for some 8-bit mini game?
And you know this how? For all you know they only need to change a number or a word so your argument is invalid. As does Blute’s but I’m not even going to bother replying to him because frankly speaking I just wanted my voice to be heard, not teach logic 101.
NO SAB—-give us fixes/give an expnasion/fix bugs/fix the cursor/try communication—but Nintendo 8 bit jumping in an MMO—or put it back with with absolutely zero (0) rewards of any kind and those that want it can play away for the “fun” only.
I’ve done it in the past while people where busy grinding their face off for ascended weapons, and I can do it now. I don’t see the reasoning behind your request, but fun is enough of a reward for me.
Old but gold
We definitely need some new hardcore items or goals to pay for.
Fixed
I’ve been using same Greatsword skills on my guard since the first open beta in 2012 April.
Repetitive and boring. No room for experimentation. And I’m using all weapons on my thief and all weapons on my Guardian in different circumstances. Of course there’s no room, you chose it yourself.
I don’t know about Thief, but Guardian PvE weapon selection is really limited and you can’t argue with that. Shield is garbage, torch is only useful for the condition clearing but conditions are rarely an issue, hammer sees use only for the 2# skill, mace is laughable, staff is bad unless you are in a zerg…
Basically the only effective PvE Guadian weapons are greatsword, greatsword, greatsword and scepter/sword + focus (but only rarely).
So no, it’s definitely not him limitating his choices, but the game making most of them significantly worse.

I am still waiting for a comment on the massively overboard karma nerf they did in August
Inb4 thread lock due to terrible attitude.
I’m sorry OP champion farms really are effortless, as much as you would pretend they aren’t. And your post could be condensed in 3 lines to tell us clearly why reducing the loot vs nerfing the champs to elites would’ve been a better approach.
Besides, if Arenanet decides to nerf champs trains it’s their prerogative and I strongly doubt they were forced into it by “a few whinging marys”.
More gem shop content.
Well, they have to make money to keep the game running somehow, don’t they?
Don’t like it, don’t buy it. It’s not P2W, so you’ll be fine without it.
Such a naive way of thinking.
Yes, the onus is totally on the player for SPvP having a small playerbase, not on Arenanet (which totally didn’t make a subpar PvP experience).
For example, games with horrible communities such as LoL or Dota 2 have very small playerbases…oh, wait.
How come nobody can specifically describe what builds benefit from a nerf to Zerker build? They always speak of them vaguely, then when you take them to task they get defensive and deflect.
What builds benefit from a nerf to Zerker? How are they “more viable” now when the game play mechanics haven’t changed one iota?
In order for MMOs to be playable for some people, they need variety. Saying zerker and only zerker hurts the game.
This “nerf to zerker” isn’t the final step of the changes Anet will be making to the game. They’ve said that this is only the first step but it’s a require step to make the other changes.
As it stands now the game suffers from a lack of build diversity. Certain measures are being introduced to mitigate that, but they’re being introduced slowly because MMO players aren’t universally fond of change.
This is a backbone change that allows them to make other changes.
But I can’t imagine anyone would believe that having one single viable build in PvE is good for the game.
Depends on your definition of viable. You can do any dungeon with any team with mixed (even outright terrible) builds afaik.
I’m no dungeoneer and thus I could care less about the stacking spots or meta-builds. My guardian has a decent chunk of vit and toughness because I don’t always time my dodges perfectly and I also WvW often. Had no problem getting to fractals level 40 and never had to hide my build to anyone.
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
Well SAB weapons were a great example too, gotta give them that.
+1
Sincerely,
a Guardian that could care less about speedruns.

I so want for the SAB to come back, even without any new content. I didn’t have enough time to get all the achievements for the second world (being stubborn and refusing to look up guides on the internet) but Arenanet said no, you’ve had your SAB fill for this year.
Okay I guess.
Unlike many games, Star Citizen is clearly a work of passion by a team with a pretty set-in-stone vision while GW2 doesn’t know what it wants to be, or what it is. Now I’m not bashing on Arenanet as I’m sure many of them love their work (Foreman <3), but remember the often-quoted “everyone by level 80 should have the best stats?” from Colin around 1 year before release? Yeah, totally reflective of the current game. They don’t talk about their plans for the future because they might not have any.
Then again we’ll have to wait and see what happens with SC. Let’s hope for the best. See you in the ’verse.
Okay so you weren’t joking…
I’ll compare MMOs to MMOs and not to RPGs because that’s what they are. MMOs are generally made to be played for a lot more than any other genre, so naturally they require more updates.
Now in terms of “money’s worth” I’m sure you got a point, but I don’t think there’s any reason to consider ourselves “lucky” when any MMO (P2P, B2P, F2P)gets new content.
@Lordkrall: fair enough
@Lankybrit: Are you suggesting that non-subscription MMOs shouldn’t get any update? Because that is gross. Even F2P ones get new content.
@OP: you forgot guild missions,2 new world bosses and a new WvW map.
@lordkrall: the reason is simple really, I didn’t play for 6 months for personal reasons, so what you had august doesn’t matter to me or to anyone that wasn’t there.
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
I haven’t read or tried any of the new traits, so I won’t comment on them.
I will comment instead of the changes to traits while leveling. Now I don’t want to brag, but I have a certain history of pointing out bad ideas that get changed later on (i.e. character bound wxp). I can’t wrap my mind around why this would be a better system, so let’s see if I’m making another good call.
Glad to inform you Arenanet has said that they want to implement it, but it doesn’t have an high priority.
Oh? This is good news. Do you happen to have a link to a press release or anything? I’d love to read ANet’s views on this.
Unfortunately not, it was a long time ago (more than 6 months) and I forgot the exact source. Nothing too official though.
It was a question asked to Colin Johanson (I think) in an interview that you can find somewhere on Youtube, and it was answered quickly with “We want to add dueling, but it’s not a priority”.
Hopefully someone else has better memory
Glad to inform you Arenanet has said that they want to implement it, but it doesn’t have an high priority.
Now for all the people that don’t like dueling and will make mental gymnastyc exercises to tell you why it’s not a feature to be added to GW2.
I think the problem is that almost the entirety of GW2 is built with the idea of lessening or outright eliminating the possibility of other players interfering with your experience. The looting and tagging systems come to mind, for example. This attracts certain kind of players that then find the rules completely flipped in OS, a place where people are even encouraged to “troll” (the traps were put there for a reason).
The end product is a clash of gaming styles. For example I used to run OS with a friend attacking any enemy on-sight and we had the most fun when we met like-minded people that fought back. Yet I can sympathyze with that guy who just wanted to complete it once and never set foot there again. But how am I supposed to know when the game doesn’t even allow you to communicate properly? I’ll just go with the rules Arenanet set, and gosh attack players in a place made for attacking players. Besides I’ve let “friendly” people go by only for them to turn against me once they had enough numbers so yeah, call me a troll and lose your faith in humanity.
@Windu: why do you think Arenanet put plenty of traps in there?
Disclaimer:
I’ve run OS like a grand total of 10 times since launch so the issue doesn’t really concern me. I’ve both helped enemies and mercilessly killed them multiple times, so I don’t stand on any side of the fence. I’m only posting because I don’t like the demonization of players with different gaming tastes. That, and because I’m insomniac.
(edited by Wolfheart.1938)
I’ve had experiences like this but what got me posting was how attacking an enemy player in a PvP environment is defined as “trolling” in your post and apparently is regarded as something despicable by many other posters.
Mmmh.
dude duel me. DUDE duel Meh!
dude. dude.
dude dual MEEEE11!!
Hey look everybody DUDE is chicken and wont duel me!
I bet 5 million gold and he still wont duel me.
dude duel me.
dude.
Ban champion trains, I once killed a champion and they all harassed me because of that. I couldn’t sleep for the next 2 weeks.
They didn’t mess up with the second SAB release at all. There were just a lot of ppl crying because they couldn’t make it (even tho it wasn’t that hard)
People were only unhappy (and thereby didn’t attend SAB) because of certain implementation decisions (by the higher-ups), rather than the maps themselves (except for one being seen as too long). They nerfed how rewarding (in a sense other than skins) the original SAB was. Not only did they remove any incentive aside from skins, such as obsidian shards, they also reduced the baubles to be found in the world to buy these skins, making it a grind. This frustration was multiplied by the decision to put players to 1 life after they die and quit, rather than 5, meaning more of the baubles going towards coins “to keep the player on edge” they suggested, rather than to spruik their infinite continue coin, I’m sure.
The second iteration of the SAB lacked the mass appeal that the first had with regards to rewards, in that it only really rewarded skins. Were it to have had the original structure, it may have attracted many more that wouldn’t have otherwise participated, and they in turn may have found it both rewarding and entertaining.
They really should ask themselves whether the elements they change or remove “make the game more enjoyable”, before enacting them.
Not confident that they’re going to bring it back, as the numbers may not have appeased the “metric-men”, and yet they’ll attribute that to the feature itself, rather than to it being turned into an infinite-coin pushing grind, with its reward system butchered.
I can’t +1 this enough, very eloquently put!
I hate it when people criticize w2 as I believe it was vastly superior to w1 from a gameplay experience. Longer levels (equals more content, although the lack of save-spots was an issue), way more mechanics and variety in enemies and situations, and an additional mode. Yes there were a bunch of difficulty spikes that shouldn’t have been there (temple gong run was the worst offender), and lag-sensitivy made the geyesers harder then they should’ve been, but overall the level design of SAB was better than the first.
If they hadn’t screwed it up with the rewards and monetization, it would’ve been way more succesful. It also came out when they introduced the ascended-farm-a-tron, getting even SAB-enthusiasts like me to consider doing something more rewarding.
Only pointing it out because I hate metric-men
