They could make sword easier to use but I think that it would result in a loss of those little trick you can pull off with it.
Not really. I’ve posted it before that there is a way to appease both while working with the available coding to allow it to dodge while retaining most of its chase-down/movement.
It literally boils down to altering sword in such an odd way that I don’t think Anet would even think, let alone bother with it.
- Reduce the range of Kick (1b) and Pounce (1c) to 130 range to allow free movement while executing the attack and dodging between casts of 1b & 1c.
- Add ¼s of Super Speed to Kick (1b) and ½s Super Speed to Pounce (1c) (equal amount for each cast time).
Taking into account movement speed while in combat with the cast time of the attack, assuming the player is moving forward during the entire chain, and including the attack range of each attack (130), Kick (1b) is reduced from 300 range down to 230 range while Pounce (1c) is reduced from 430 to 330.
Those 2 changes allows the current, unique animation to remain, while allowing free movement while executing the chain, max-melee range combat on sword, and the ability to dodge between casts of 1b & 1c, and retain about 80% (860 total current range vs 690 total new range) of the chain’s distance (chase-down ability/range).
Even tricks such as the double Pounce you mentioned will be mostly retained with this change, since Pounce (and Kick) would be non-leap, free movement action where the benefits of Super Speed would be able to apply to the player.
The solution is so simple that I’m not surprised Jon Peters never thought of it.

If it was the same type of ring (same name), then I’d fill out a ticket and ask for the other ring with the stats you want since each one is “unique” so the player cannot equip two of the same.
Usually, customer support is pretty ace about giving you another ring that you can use. Known many before that ran into the same issue and had it resolved.
If you bought 2 different rings and can’t equip the other, send a ticket and bug report.

Or against bosses that have their break bar broken and receive the debuff that takes a lot more damage than the standard +50% (icon looks like a red arrow pointing down like on Vinetooth Prime or Thornhearts).

Odd. I keep seeing people complain about the sound the Dreamer makes, but ever since Heart of Thorns came out, my game (even after doing client fixes) plays the regular bow shot, regardless of who is firing it.

This is wrong. Companion might works on both the smokescale, and the bristleback. Just tested it in PvE.
Check the bleed on crit on basic attacks. I tested it only 2 days ago. Smokescale, Bristleback, and both Wyverns don’t inflict bleeding. Also, make sure you know Smokescale auto has a bleed already on it. Also, Bristleback has a passive skill that applies bleeding on its next 5 attacks. Don’t get those mixed up when testing.

Doubt it. Every weapon change since launch from every major patch, update, and/or feature pack has been so minor that if Anet actually changed the sword auto, it would mean they finally grew some balls to flip off the players that like that stick ‘n’ leap without being able to dodge programming of theirs.
So, again. Doubt it.

I heard these promises before from Irenio and I simply do not believe that Anet has the will to do the class justice. With their plate so full of issues to fix the ususal suspects will fall of the board to be ignored, like it has been years ago.
Simply put, stick those promises where the sun doesn’t shine because I am very much done with all words and no action.
Irenio seems to be an all right guy with ideas. Other than Irenio and Robert Gee, the rest of the balancing team needs to get their heads out of their kitten . Probably change their entire process on how and what ideas get approved or not, because whoever it is some of these developers have to keep going through for approval is a kitten .

We’ve been enjoying watching all of the scrapper gyros buzzing around in the jungle, helping allies and clearing the way for Pact forces.
I chalked that sentence up to some developers not knowing anything about Scrappers and counted the Function Gyro that comes with slotting the traitline.
“Oh, look at how many Scrappers are using Gyros! All of them seem to like using the little orange one that follows them around. Let’s write about that!”

TINFOIL HAT ON
Let’s assume that there will be 2 more expansions. Next expansion will be in development this year and released next year. Repeat for the second. 2018 at that point.
Development for GW3 would probably start alongside or before the final expansion. Let it develop for about 3 years (2017-2020), continue to support GW2’s final expansion until GW3’s release. 2019, GW3 is announced, alphas and betas happen. 2020, final betas in progress and release slated for mid year (preferably between April-August).
Just so the stars align, GW3 is released on the 28th in NA of whatever month it’s released in. GW1, released April 28th. GW2, released August 28th. Mike O’Brien has no hair left… anywhere. Colin Johanson’s smile no longer consist of his natural teeth, but are dentures. Guild Chat is renamed and GW3 will use DX11 while every other game has moved onto DX12, 13, or Windows ’95.

Sword 1 will never change. Peters may be gone, but his mentality lingers. Main-hand dagger? I bet it’s being saved as part of an Incoming new elite specialization weapon for the next planned expansion already confirmed to be soon or currently being worked on. Wait ’til 2017.
Change the title though to just, “An Opportunity to Look at Ranger Weapons” instead. If we look past the auto attack of Sword, there are other issues with it and other weapons.
- Hornet’s Sting: Reduced or removal of the cast time to remove the clunkiness of it.
- Kick (Sword 1b): Could this possibly be a cleave and have the cripple reduced to 1s? Warrior’s 1c chain on main-hand sword applies 1s of Cripple, damage, and cleaves. This move was never updated since they removed the knockback from it upon release.
- Shortbow: …
- Hunter’s Call (Warhorn): Update it to either have more utility (blind, boon removal, etc.) or up the number of targets it can attack to match Superior Rune of the Mad King. Why is a rune better than our weapon, again? “It’s because it’s Ranger” doesn’t cut it anymore after 3 years.
- Axe: Long after-casts on the main-hand set, and for a skirmishing profession, Whirling Defense roots us. Let’s also bring up Ferocity on Honed Axes because… let’s just merge traits without thinking about their effectiveness in the first place.
- Solar Beam (Staff 1): Mesmer Spatial Surge. Equal treatment, developers. Yes, either let us spam it without a target for posterity or whatever reason we want, or bring down another profession to our misery level – we’d love the company. Currently, the restrictions are in place to remove any benefit of using it out of combat to gain astral force.
Whatever else that I didn’t think of.

^ That, too.
Make some QoL changes to our weapons, like what has been mentioned for other classes in their post. Ele scepter/focus? Mesmer scepter? Why nothing about Ranger sword?
Heck, even Hornet’s Sting’s evade being instant or having a faster cast time would help. Reducing Path of Scars to 900 range so it doesn’t go balls wild off cliffs or disappearing into some walls. Shortbow? Cast and major after casts on main-hand Axe?
Comon’ Karl! What have you done with Irenio!!
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
what do you think it will happen?
Ranger
We’ll be looking into some of the ranger’s less used traits and increasing both defensive and offensive options while giving a few specialized traits a bit more allure.
Maybe a tweak to Predator’s Instinct. That’s about it. Other traits that are mediocre or are very weak competing with other traits in their respective tier will most likely be passed over without a change, such as: Vigorous Training, Instinctive Reaction, Honed Axes, Light on Your Feet, Most Dangerous Game, Strider’s Defense, Poison Master, Empathic Bond, etc.
In the first quarterly update, we’ll also be improving the ranger’s shout utility category, giving them more unique utility.
I’m betting the DH Trap treatment, meaning, some of these shouts will grant boons rather than doing something worthwhile to them.
In the future, we’ll continue to explore ways to improve on the ranger’s ties to both their pets and nature.
More skills that either make a plant spawn and more weapon/utility skills that either, 1) make the pet inflict more damage or a condition, or 2) will also apply to the pet when it only applied before to only the player. If Sharpening Stone remains the same… bleh.
We’re still looking at the druid’s viability in group scenarios and will continue to monitor its overall effectiveness, making changes where necessary.
“We still want to nerf the Druid, but if it’s less effective when competing with other professions after the update, we’ll leave it alone… for now.”
Excuse the pessimism, but I’ll believe a better balance when I see it.

Can’t agree with anything. It’s good that it competes with other traits. Shows that there was, at the very least, some thought of the balancing team sticking with their word of “choosing traits should be difficult” unless the player is going for a certain niche.
If there’s any sort of improvement that any signet should receive, the most I could see is the cast time on Signet of the Wild reduced from 1s to ¾s and Signet of Stone active also grants 6s of Retaliation for the player and pet with reduced cooldown from 80s to 75s.

Use all Berserker’s stat gear. Slot a Sigil of Transference. Consume Delicious Rice Balls. If you need a little more healing, use Rune of the Monk. If you don’t, use Rune of the Scholar. Now, your staff will do higher (than usual) damage while healing nicely because of outgoing healing % modifiers instead of crap healing power stats.

Again, the point of the question is I’m asking you what you find interesting. Why are people talking to me like I signed up for counseling?
Probably because your initial post had no indication of asking what others find interesting.
I recently filled out all my elite specs on all nine of my characters (one of each). Other than finishing the story at least once, what should I tackle next? I’m not sure if I’m lost, or just burnt out. Feels like some of my enthusiasm evaporated.
If your point was to ask what others find interesting, then your title and main post needs rewording.

Just need more Rangers to bring this up. For a short while, off-hand weapons on Necros used to disappear when performing main-hand axe attacks. This was fixed after a month or so with a fair amount of complaints.
Guess not too many Rangers use main-hand axe, care, or because it’s Ranger related.

I agree it needs some work. Possibly increase the damage from it or tack on some bleeding when it hits, and/or have the combo interval proc every ¼s instead of every ½s.

Wait a bit longer. There will be a post, live stream, and other writings next week about future updates planned. The one bit you will want to wait and read about is for balancing. If you like what you see/hear, then by all means, come on back.
Also, Metabattle is behind on a few things, like the GW2 Wiki. If you’re curious about Druids in raids, browse a few topics in the Raid sub-forum. So far, people like having (at most) 1 on the team.

Not to derail since this is about a cooldown reduction on Spectral Wall, but I think it’s fine where it is and Well of Darkness could use the cooldown reduction instead. Like, from 50s to 30s.

Though I agree with the video, HOT wasn’t a failure. It did things both good and bad. Even now, as I am becoming jaded (again), I believe GW2 will be around for as long as GW1 has.
To me, it could have been more, and in HOT, things were changed, added and improved upon – which is a good sign. I bought the expansion and got a fair share of 4 months of stuff to do from it, so that was worth it.
The one thing in the video that resonated most with me was the ending in which I (personally) felt, too. Just a lot of “little things” that kept hindering me from having further enjoyment. To each their own, though, as everyone gets enjoyment from something that others may not.

Smokescale, Bristleback, and both Wyverns do not bleed when basic attacks critically hit with Companion’s Might.

As much as I would love the game to be balanced, it won’t ever happen. Players seem to love this dilemma of waiting for things to work out. If they actually balanced the professions, then things would become stale.
Don’t you people like hating certain classes, calling each other names for playing a cheese, passive, and/or bad build? Constantly changing your build and spending more gold into converting or making new stat gear because <reasons>?
You do. And the developers recognize this. Bless them for understanding that if things worked out, then every log-in would just be another day at the office.

Take a break and move onto something else. I had this feeling after I completed or did all the things I wanted. Grass is always greener on the other side. Might be good for you, anyways. At least after a break, you can come back to the game later down the road refreshed, among other things.

I say let it be ruined. I agree there should be compensation, but not through MM traits solely. But that gets into all the other past topics of low weapon coeffs and bad design. Ranger was never a burst class to begin with. I’d rather see the burst nerfed and see a higher emphasis in sustained damage, thus, why Steady Focus is a minor trait in my suggestion.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.

Meh. That lost is minor, especially considering the combo is flawed itself for how the class and weapons were designed.
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Keeping Opening Strikes is still bad. Just change those to something straight-forward and normal with a few tweaks to some traits.
- 1st Minor: You and your pet have a % chance to apply 5s of Vulnerability on hit.
- 2nd Minor: Vulnerability you and your pet apply lasts % longer.
- 3rd Minor: Steady Focus.
- New Master Trait to fill in the slot Steady Focus was.
- Remorseless: Gain an “Attack of Opportunity” when you gain Fury or kill a foe. “Attack of Opportunity” always critically hits.
Then lower the bonus damage from Attack of Opportunity from 50% to 25%.

I agree, they should make all scenes skipable. You had some crap design decisions done like in the mordrem camp story in the first act. You can’t skip the pointless scene of showing all those mordrem adds around a crash site, but you can skip the Death of Eir.

Seeing how there is some wiggle room in terms of differentiating team compositions, this could work. It’s really up to you and other people. Most people just play it safe, so you’ll see people wanting Zealot or just max healing power Druids. I personally wouldn’t touch either now.
