GvG’s, or ‘kill trading’, are interrupted enough at the windmill as it is. The EB JP is quite literally the home of trolls in WvW, so trying to get through a single round while having people AoE’ing us from above or from the sides would be quite literally impossible. Sorry to kill your dream flute, but sadly EB JP is a no no.

I think that limiting everyone to exotic gear(probably doable) is absolutely fine. Most of the GvGers I’ve met don’t like ascended at all.

thats what i wished they would have done from the start. make all ascneded go down to exotic stats when entering WvW. at least keep things sorta ok stat wise. but meh, lets keep climbing

I don’t think that would be easy to make. But a gear check and a message “You are wearing ascended equipment, please replace it” would be easy.

You get 15 to 20 people together how many times? And yes there are probably some hardcore guilds out there that can have these numbers throughout the day.

Anyway, good luck on those queues.

Pvp had his bit of rage today on the forums. I’m afraid the 17th of sept will be yours as I don’t have high hopes for Bloodlust not affecting the overall stats and thus messing up the GvG scene.

That’s why you never make a game with only 1 PvP mode! Most people will get bored no matter what it is.

If they do make it, I sure hope it is not in PvP. It fits much better in the WvW space where there are more options of gear and food choices. PvP is not strategic enough.

haha yes it is…. all the same builds you make in WvW you can make in SPvP. they just dont have the way too high stats. You know, actually having to make important build choices and picking and choosing what to be good at.

Though I guess that isnt strategic enough for 2 groups of 20 players to just train into each other and spam skills.

You have absolutely no idea how limited sPvP is, do you? What if I want 3 pieces of carrion, 2 pieces zerk and the rest soldier?(random gear BTW, don’t take it seriously) What about the food buffs, balance differences(there’s one trait that makes the difference between day and night for staff eles for example) and the forced transformation of crit damage on all amulets into a defensive stat? Knight gear in PvE is also T/p/p, not V/p/p. Valk also has switched toughness for vitality and the healing is crit damage.
Have you ever gone out of sPvP to at least look at the level 80 gear?

They said that they know that people organize their own fights in WvW and that they’re discussing it or something like that.
It’s probably about both the GvG and duels being organized in WvW.
I also agree with having 8v8 GW1 style GvG. This game needs more PvP modes. Just no rushing anything to being competitive and everything should be fine.

Well, it most likely won’t become an esport because of obvious reasons. Gear grind and P2P (it’s really not F2P, more like a big free trial) are really holding the game back and with EA in charge they probably won’t let go of that. But there really are some things that Anet can learn from SWTOR.

SWTOR is more of a Esport then this game, till Anet realizes this and focus’s on crap people actually like “WvW” and GvG this game will continue to suck the teet of SPvP

^ And it would fail. You can basically put up 10 v 10’s in a custum arena and just fight on beach on nifhel. But nobody does that.

The only way this kind of GvG would work is, if it’s tied in with WvW.

We want 20v20/15v15. If we wanted 10v10 you’d probably see half the posts about this.
And WvW is exactly where most GvGers don’t want to be. We want the rules of WvW but in an isolated area and without the requirement of being on servers in the same matchup.

I’ll say it again. But thinking that 20v20 deathmatch as a standalone gamemode would work, is wishful thinking. I can’t even start to explain this, it’s too obvious. :/

However, there’s room for this as is obvious by the player initiatives and the WvW crowd. But it would only work in WvW and when it is tied in with that. Now lots of the ‘real’ WvW’ers don’t want those GvG’ers to take up a spot in the player limit, thus you need to work around that.

Guilds wanted to be a part of the WvW game since the beginning of the game. Why don’t just ty in GvG in WvW? Let guilds claim a tower/keep and let them upgrade it/defend it to unlock a GvG mode. Or something like that. :p

That would actually require more work than simply making a big circle and deathmatch. Making custom arena caps up to 20/team+a checkbox for “WvW gear and balance” is probably easier to do and would be enough for now. After making something as simple as that they should make full game modes like deathmatch arenas and capture the flag.
The game really needs small-scale PvP right now.

Doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t try. The sPvP forum is already on fire(maybe ashes and dust at this point) and sPvP itself isn’t interesting/rewarding(as it was already proven with numbers). The PvP part of the game needs anything possible ATM.
You can dodge with “But you just don’t understand the game mode.”, “ur bad l2p”, “WvW/PvE guy, get out!” and similar stuff but it’s not going to get you anywhere.

i just ran a naked warrior with onlu trinkets and weapon and owned 3 noobs in WvW. warrior is so OP, and i destory spirit rangers and necros with it jus by press F1 in WvW. please nerf

I agree that the only PvP in the game shouldn’t be massive and require you to be in a guild. 8 man capture the flag, 2-5 man deathmatch and WvW GvG all sound like they could work but not alone. You shouldn’t develop MMO PvP with a single game mode.

BC GvG is splitting, tactics, burst, avoidance, reaction, etc.

20vs20 is circling in a ball and spamming skills. No offense intended.

sPvP ATM is circling alone and spamming skills. The whole game is like that.
The ball thing is because of the AoE cap. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see that running in a stack is more effective.
Also stop comparing GW1 GvG to the WvW GvG. The only people that are talking about GW1 here are the GW1 players. Just stop already. If you want that mode, go make your own thread and don’t spam every “WvW GvG” thread on the forums.

Yep, definitely sounds fun to me. But what about the casuals, roamers or smaller guilds? How would spawn zones and supplies work? I think that this would need new maps. Either bigger than the current ones or a lot of them. Maybe making multiple instances of the same map would fix that.

I’ve been dreading the day, the WvW GvG community would come into our pvp forums.

They should just give you guys a giant circle that only the two teams get into. Nothing more.

I guess you didn’t see the thread 1 month ago. There were suggestions about this before but everyone decided to move to the suggestions forum where the thread was buried.
And it’s not like the current WvW GvG needs anything more than a giant circle for a map tbh. It’s huge deathmatch, does it need a pretty map?
Sadly, simply making a map doesn’t solve the problems. Where will it be? What game balance will it use? Will there be set gear like sPvP or will people use PvE gear?

How about making it an aura? Just knocks everything around you, deals some damage, gives you stability and reflects projectiles? And we keep our abilities and attunement swap. That way we don’t have to swap our 20 weapon skills, heal and 3 utilities for 3 terrible transformation abilities.

Because their engine isn’t made for this. I won’t explain the details because that’s already been said over 9000 times.
Also because StarCraft doesn’t calculate boons, armor, buffs, might, vulnerability, weapon damage, crit chance, crit damage, traits and distance from the center of AoEs.
And it’s not the 80 people being on the map, it’s the 80 people FIGHTING on the map.
It’s pretty much impossible to get that amount of people/AI fighting at the same time on 1 map in a MOBA.
Please don’t compare shooter calculations to RPG calculations. Shooters like CoD and Battlefield(as far as I know) don’t have armor, crit chance, crit damage, boons, power scaling and probably other things that I can’t remember right now. At the same time GW2 has projectile calculations like a shooter.
BTW aren’t shooters always limited to 64 players or even lower numbers? I remember interviews discussing 64 players in Battlefield 4 being a big thing.

Your defense of Anet’s ineptitude is noble, but misguided. This is a partially defective product/consumer service (if we count online-based games as the latter). There’s no excuse for it one year after it has been released.

Oh, I’m not defending them. I’m just explaining the problem in the most simple possible way so that people would understand why it’s not an easy change.
I still think that the game’s engine should be fixed ASAP and make it run on dx11 instead of delaying it until a “bigger patch or expansion”. Releasing the game in Asia is not an excuse.

And WoW totally didn’t have skirmishes before Cataclysm.

As long as there’s random matchmaking you’ll have the chance of getting “brain dead teammates”. It’s definitely not a WoW-only thing and your completely random matchmaking idea just increases the possible skill difference between the players in a match. I’ve always hated easy stomps, even when I’m doing them.
The Guild Wars 2 devs wanted this game to be unique and new. Did all of you GW1 players miss that part? And what’s your problem with birthday presents? I agree that they’re pretty much useless but most games don’t even give anything. Just be happy that they even recognized your character creation date and stop whining about free stuff.
Also I have a “PvE” signature(it’s for WvW actually but I get your point) because my business in sPvP was done a long time ago. Nothing short of a death match mode is really going to get me to play that again.

Are we done with the pointless GW1 comments now? Good. Time for a constructive discussion.
IMO simply adding the option to have 20 people per team and using PvE gear+WvW balance would be enough for now. Not that hard to do.
Also, please, only deathmatch. No more conquest. I think people already have enough of that in sPvP and WvW. We don’t want more respawn spam rush modes(or at least I don’t but I’m sure that there’s more people that share my opinion). Making it round-based makes more sense.

Try running through a choke with 5 superior arrow carts and you are starting to get a sense of how it was

ACs have a 50 man AoE cap ATM. It was even confirmed by a dev, I think.

AKA the game/server engine/architecture can’t handle it.

Also I think that things like static can hit the 5 man AoE cap only if 5 people hit it at the exact same time. Something like doing dodge roll while jumping. The server can only do 5 calculations per AoE at the same time. So anything under the server’s calculation time and you could probably hit the AoE cap on those things.

Why, Anet, just why? Put your resources where it’s actually needed.

Because their engine isn’t made for this. I won’t explain the details because that’s already been said over 9000 times.
Also because StarCraft doesn’t calculate boons, armor, buffs, might, vulnerability, weapon damage, crit chance, crit damage, traits and distance from the center of AoEs.
And it’s not the 80 people being on the map, it’s the 80 people FIGHTING on the map.
It’s pretty much impossible to get that amount of people/AI fighting at the same time on 1 map in a MOBA.
Please don’t compare shooter calculations to RPG calculations. Shooters like CoD and Battlefield(as far as I know) don’t have armor, crit chance, crit damage, boons, power scaling and probably other things that I can’t remember right now. At the same time GW2 has projectile calculations like a shooter.
BTW aren’t shooters always limited to 64 players or even lower numbers? I remember interviews discussing 64 players in Battlefield 4 being a big thing.
