Warrior has 2 viable builds for spvp, which is 1 more than many other classes.
Well, you shouldn’t be fixated on a single weapon set for all the content. Some work better in different situations. d/p & sb are good for sPvP and WvW most of the time. But usually if you don’t want to break bar in a group with other people on a boss you’ll get a lot more utility for cleaving and dmg, evades and positioning with staff, for example in pve. Sb is most of the time useless in pve if you don’t use it for ground covering to get places faster.
SB is the most important weapon for pve cause of the mobility.
d/d is fine for pve since you can easily stealth up with d5 and get the backstab bonus damage. I personally play staff (good damage and for the lulz)
I would say it also depends on which division you are playing. In lower tiers you can´t rely on your team at all, and playing thief is really horrible there since you can´t hold points. So I switched to warrior which made me able to carry much more.
I think placement matches are insufficient to do a good job of determining initial ranking. It is very possible to climb (or fall) to your true ranking after placement, but it could take a lot of games. I think for S6 they should require many more games for initial placement, or get rid of placement matches completely and start everyone with a ranking of zero.
I started off with a low placement around 850 with 3 wins, 7 losses. I have since climbed to around 1150 with 96 games and 55 wins (57% ratio). I am playing exclusively power Rev, which may not be the best choice this season…
Played my placement matches as power rev, wasn´t the best decision tbh…
had 3-7 in placements, got about 600 rating, since then i climbed to silver 1 with about 70 % winratio. Even though there were games which almost made me quit gw2, i just continued. I figured out that the best classes for me to carry in low tier are warrior and guardian since you need to be able to hold points and you cant just trust your teammates to do so.
As if reports would have any consequences.
The most frustrating part is that it doesn´t matter if you actually played good and lost really close like 490-500 or played bad and lost 100-500. You will lose the same amount of rating. The only effect on rating is the win/loss and the players ratings. You should at least be rewarded for playing good by getting less rating loss.
this can work in US but in EU it will be a chaos too many languages and too many people who thinks everybody knows her home language and refuses to speek another one, many times seen french, germans and some eastern ones talking a lot in his languages in team chat no matter no one knows it
It works in other games perfectly well, I don´t see why it shouldnt work in GW2. Most plebs in Europe have to learn English in school.
I love how noone mentions Rev since its already dead.
in s5 i started as rev, then i switched to power warrior. why playing rev when you deal more damage, have more survivability, condi cleanse and easy access to stability as warrior?
today I had 4 druids in my team due to pvp daily, 3 dh in the opponent team..
Sounds like to me people want all these extra features implemented to simulate being part of a team.
- Class stacking
- Lack of communication
- Bad teammates
All issues that would not have to exist if we just had a 5v5 only Team Queue, which is insanely easier to implement than an in game voice chat, which opens up a whole new avenue of trolling. Why keep creating more and more problems in the game trying to make Solo Queue work, when Team Queue is the logical answer.
Most competitive games have a voice function and not everyone has a team to play with. + the q times would me much higher
And some people are talk lazy.
Well I would be fine with that as long as they listen to me
Imagine we would have a voice function for spvp. Instead of typing sth in fight you could just tell your team whats up. Would make things so much easier and more competitive, especially since this season due to solo/duoq only where most of the teammates dont know each other. Of course it should have a blocking function since there are always toxic players out there.
What are your thoughts about it?
i used to play the macebow condi build, just recently switched to this build: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Berserker_-_GS/Mace_Burst . its so much more fun due to the mobility and burst potential. condi warrior is just boring and slow imo.
just play warrior, you have more damage, more condi cleanse, more heal, more survivability..
well after the rev nerf 1v1s became much harder. teamfights is where rev is still really strong. i dont recommend using sword 3 in teamfights though (except for evading) since dmg is split. vs. guardians: just dont walk into their traps and if they pull you get out of there with shiro skills.
- 3) Players are punished for things out of their control. You win as a team, and lose as a team. This motto would be true, if Ranked PvP were an actual team game. As it stands, being on a team with up to 4 random strangers of various skill level truly makes winning more of a coin flip than based on skill and strategy. Case in point, my last match had 3 Eles, so I swapped to my Ele, and fooled around. We won. But not because of my skill. I was just mashing buttons since I don’t know how to play Ele well. We won because the other team had players who aren’t experienced in PvP. Matchmaking punished someone on the other team who really tried hard to win, but couldn’t because his teammates couldn’t keep up. MMR should be based on individual skill, not the win/loss record.
So true. It doesnt matter if you lose 499-500 or 0-500, u always seem to drop the same amount of points. Why can´t you get rewarded for playing good by losing less points than usual? This is really demotivating..
Hello,
Im happy with the ‘nerf’. I like to play hybrd shiro/mallyx and the new stunbreak added to Mallyx helps a lot. My main damage sources are autoattack and banish enchantment. I use sword 2 to stop kitters and sw3 to evade. Better success and fun from the last patch, at least for my play style.Regards,
RurikPlaying shiro and mallyx is just gimping yourself and your team.
Not if he’s condi.
Especially if he’s condi. No team buffs, another bad heal, no flame on point, no megastun. For a teleport (Axe#4) and quickness (unnecessary).
Mallyx heal is fine if you pull conditions first, and flame is replaced by unyielding which procs leeching on projectile and blindness on blast. Lacks team buffs but you take conditions off them.
It’s different but worth exploring.
after a few days of playing rev i gotta say that its good in teamfights, but i cant count how many times i couldnt kill downed players cause all of the cc. would really wish to get some access to stability other than retri.
Gonna have to cleave for now
most of the times i cleave with shiro speed but cc kittens me up
meanwhile warrior deals massive damage, heals himself and cleanse conditions by pressing 1 kittening button.

when you win 1v2 at close, meanwhile your team lost the complete map.
btw it also kittenes me off when u see the opponent playing really bad and you own him 1v1 easily, but he still wins the game..
when ur druid decides at 496-496 to stealth the whole team before we can decap mid.
U are at the rating where u belong. Enough games played, 50ish% winrate, 10ish points won/lost per game.
Why do u want to get out of the place where u belong?
At 800 rating its super super easy to carry. To deny that means you just lie to yourself. If u cant carry it means u are close to where u belong.
Its harsh but the truth.
obviously you dont know what you are talking about. I started at 600 and now i am at 850. How do you carry a team that is trio capping close at the beginning of the game? I mean of course im climbing but you cant just carry every game
If this is the case, I’d be genuinely curious to have you record a match or two and posting them.
Sounds good, hope my pc can make it though
Yesterday I had a thief in my team. Cause of the recent experiences playing with thieves I asked him if he knew what to do. Ofc he didnt. I tried to explain to him, he told me to shut up. I asked him why he plays pvp and told him that I dont want to lose cause of players like him. He said he wants easy ascended gear and he doesnt care if he loses.
tell me more lol. noone can carry this randomness.
Feel yah bro. I think the best course of action is give up on s5 and wait for s6 and hope you get lucky in placememt. If that fails wait for s7 and so on. At some point you’ll be allowed to have fun I hope. Good luck.
Well I started duoq now and it makes things so much easier cause u have at least one player in ur team u can trust.

Btw I played now 5 games with a mate, we won all of them. Maybe its just duoq which solves the problem.
one of the many games where I carried but couldnt do kitten about the fact that we lose cause the team doesnt know kitten about rotation and dies instantly all over the map.
we got 2 revs in our team and i still got the most team dmg. i got 12-0 stats. I constantly was decapping and +1ing. welcome to bronze hell. gonna take forever to get out of this kittenplace.
Initial ranking is based off your old MMR, so if you place low, this is partly due to you having low MMR beforehand.
I started in silver 1 and carried myself into gold 2 on mostly necro, with teammates that sometimes wanted me to throw my keyboard into the wall with the amount of absolutely kittened decisions they made or simply ended up “contributing” in amounts where they could’ve just not been playing and they would’ve been more useful.
Carrying is definitely possibly if you truly are that much below the rating where you think you should be. Look at what exactly makes you loses your games, mostly it’s getting outrotated; if that’s the case and you play a class with low mobility, swap to something like thief, mesmer, scrapper. Don’t play support ele in low tiers when you can’t rely on your teammates.
Elo hell is real but some of you aren’t even trying to get out.
i actually found out that playing thief in low tier is most rewarding for me, since u can outplay ppl so easily and decap without even being noticed by the opponent standing few meters away. the joke is that i even have to carry teamfights as thief which should be carried by other classes.
the system is fine, the placement matches arent. people who got unlucky like me and get placed in bronze get frustrated really fast. you just cant carry every game.
I mean of course I am climbing right now cause i belong to a higher division, but the way is long and frustrating (1 loss throws u more back than 1 win). btw I had 3-7 in the placements and about 80 % w/l ratio since then.
Learn to make builds and test things on your own. There’s a very good hybrid build available that uses Mallyx and Glint. Stop being lemmings.
why would i play condi rev when condi warrior is 10 x better?
tfw u dont get rewarded at all for playing good. just played as thief, was decapping and +1ing all over the place (16 kills, 1 death), still lost. ofc I got -14 rating, meanwhile when I win its around 11-13
I Wish Anet would provide more instructions and help when they change PvP. I still don’t understand how ranking works in the new systems. If you screwed up your first 10 matches, are you screwed the rest of the season?
well, for me atm its just a grind to climb the ranks since im placed far too low and the climb is really slow.
tfw u have to do the thieves job and decap close/far cause he keeps running into teamfights and dies instantly.
tfw 3 people capping close at the beginning of the round.
tfw necro keeps pushing far and dies instantly.
tfw u lose 499-500 cause noone helped keeping mid.
tfw druid is afking on close the entire match.
tfw ur team goes for monsters on forest all the time.
tfw players dont know u get revived when they kill another downed player.
tfw when u are in bronze cause u had some kittened up placement matches.
I disagree with this completely. Their wins/losses will place them properly in the bracket they belong in. There’s no need to lock anyone out of ranked pvp until they are better.
i have seen these kind of players winning matches randomly though
i made the mistake to soloq every placement match which made every game pure random. i had always top stats, yet i ended up 4-6 (1 dc included). now im stuck in bronze hell where players are trio capping close at the beginning of the match (no joke).
meanwhile i have at least like a 60 % win-loss-ratio but the climb is really slow.
“meta builds” lol there is only one meta build (not sure if its still meta though)
I just had a game where a druid was standing the whole game on temple mid on an upper position and pressing those longbow skills.. He didnt even move once. I am pretty sick of losing games like that, just cause some pve plebs want that ascended gear. I mean its nice that we got more players in pvp but this isnt the kittening jungle wurm where u have to stand still and press random buttons..
Why can people who never played pvp before instantly hop into ranked? Wouldnt it be better if they had to play a certain amount of unranked games so they get some experience?
You already have to be pvp rank 20 to even queue for ranked. It being higher could be a way to weed out these types of players, though they do seem to be the type of players who would also farm custom arenas for dailies and get it there albeit very slowly.
yea thats also sth which annoys me, that u get points for playing on aneras.. can be easy farmed this way.
Ok I forgot that u have to be rank 20 to go ranked.. Makes it even more unbelievable what kind of players there are (unless they farmed arenas)

just move with wasd lol
i like that its not that kind of a grind anymore.
Their original purpose was to sell copies of HoT, now thats over and the majority of suckers who bought that for the class they can “balance” the class how it was “ment” to be.
inbefore next expansion class will be “op” for a year until they nerf it to the ground cause another expansion class comes.
doesnt surprise me since they nerfed its counterclass rev.
you know whats up when ur teammates got titles like “great jungle wurm slayer”
Even though staff 5 and sword 2 have been nerfed hard, rev still seems to be viable. Staff 5 remains such a good CC and evading possibility. The weapon swap burst is still really powerful. The only thing I changed in my playstyle is focusing more on sword autoattack.
What are your experiences after the recent patch?
