Just so people know, the mask does have an odd issue of being able to see the eyes blink behind the glow. It’s glow is not done the same as the necromancer’s mask many people have used. So be advised before you purchase. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing and it gets fixed to where the glow works correctly.
Video of eye glow where this can be seen:

More noticeable at the 16sec mark.
What makes people think i want to duel with spvp crap on? Heck no. It’s boring as crap trying to duel in the arenas, why would i want it there…i don’t. It’s team based with team builds, absolutely useless outside of that demograph, as balanced there is not “balanced” outside of the scope..hold point = win. It is completely silly to think custom arenas were ever the answer, as only 1 of 3 modes of game play even use their set stats. And even mentioning the silly boxing matches with various npc skins is just /facepalm worthy.
It should be open world as was suggested so people can have fun waiting, goofing off or just general fun. I also like the idea someone mentioned that it is by default off, and when you turn it on, the portrait changes to show you are willing to except duels. If you don’t have it on you are never worse for the wiser as you can’t even be asked, no annoying popups, nothing. TADA everyone’s happy.
Bottom line: it should be open world, it should be with whatever gear you have in PvE, it should be toggle-able (you either get popups or you dont). No muss no fuss, no affect on those that dont like it, and those that do can have a ball where ever their journeys take them.
Got to get our annual “MOA nerf thread”, yea, it was about due.
Just a matter of time till the “MOA-Anonymous meetings” start up.
“And this one time, I got MOA’ed when….”
Much appreciated.
While an atypical build may not have seen any change to their play, it would have been a significant of enough a loss to the build I use that I’d have been forced me to shelve my Mesmer as she would be all but unplayable with out having to completely redo and remake how the character even plays. For some builds, that clone death while a minor add in for some, it is as much as part of the character builds as (*a) shatter is for shatter play and phantasm for phantasm builds.
I for one am extremely delighted that they reverted this change.
*Edit, really they edit the word “as” because it’s followed by another word that begins with S, their filter needs some work.

no clone replacement with DE if you already have 3 clones out.
I fail to understand why people still think this is occurring. It’s been what, 2 month since the devs decided not to do that change because everyone told them it was stupid?
I’ve not seen this by the devs, Pyro, could you be more specific to where it was said that this latter change will not go through? Personally for me it would be game breaking if it were to be removed as a melee mesmer.
No arguments here, it would be stupid. As it would break on kill effects entirely for pvp/wvw, but its consideration was solely on the purpose to make PU on kill builds less effective.
I would like for ANet to give a “Free Hand” option to Thieves. A full skill set around a single weapon (You still need an off-hand weapon equipped to benefit from the stats, though).
I hate, hate, HATE how all games pigeon hole Thieves into dual wielding monkeys. I know its just a game, but dual wielding is NOT a practical form of fighting in real life, and I would like for more of a non-stealth Evasive//Grapple/Parry-Riposte style play with an “empty offhand” fighting style.
Please… staaaaahp… rapier + dagger, saber + dagger, tomahawk + knife, axe + seax in the western world, dual butterfly knives, dual sabers, dual swords, dual axes, dual sais, dual hook swords in the eastern world – your argument about the reality issue is invalid.
You want to know what all of the weapons you suggested had in common? Not a single one or combination of them was ever used in war. Dual wielding is nothing but high fantasy that is insanely impractical in reality (like the myths around katanas. They aren’t anything to write home about).
Someone obviously doesn’t have the facts about a real katana.
Most people don’t, but that’s to be expected of a weapon that often carries a minimum $150k price tag. In fact dealers of genuine hand made katana wont even sell to just anyone, even if they have the money to pay for them.
Are the knock off and imitation nothing to write home about? You’d be correct but the real deal, that’s a whole nother enchilada.
As to the topic, I’d like to see all weapons opened to all professions personally.
whip. i dont think shortbow is a weapon for a mesmer, but whip would be epic!!!
You mean another focus skin, just like the fan?
It’s already got a chain, a whip ain’t too far on that one.
People keep looking at weapons and naming them based on what they look like, but many of them already fit a specific weapon we already have or that other professions use. The latter i can at least see arguments for but many of the “new” weapons people are suggesting are just skins.
I’d love to see restrictions on armor removed for the sake of transmutation. So I could be an Elementalist looking like I’m in Heavy Armor, even if the Stats are still Light Armor. Or I could be a Guardian in Light Armor even though I’m wearing Heavy Armor.
yeah, dont ever see that happening. ANet believes in being able to identify a class just based on their general “look”. If what you wanted happened, then no one would be able to tell the different classes apart in pvp/wvw.
That doesn’t hold true anymore if we can now wear town clothes in WvW.
I agree. Also the option to toggle players clothes in WvW is still there. This was mainly done prior to the change for lower end systems to not have to try and load 30 different skins, which caused some players to experience lag, or enter the “slide show”. Also dealt with culling issues.
I think the clothing issue may come in time, as it only makes sense given how the armory will work for an account.
As to the topic itself, I, like many, am also hoping for weapon restrictions to be loosened across all professions. After all, if you want diversity across professions nothing else opens it up like allowing a majority of weapons to all of a sudden be unlocked.
I’ve had Lyss and Ilya for quite a long time. I’ll be glad when i can equip them both at the same time.
i could imagine that the gem Skins will be handled like the acc bound gathering Tools.
The Price increases but for that it will function like the zenith Skins.
This is what i was referring to. Happened with the tools going from soul to account bound. Was simply curious if it will be the case for the gem store skins.
We are not yet ready to discuss the details of the system but when we said that you can carry your looks across all game types we did mean all looks. So you should be ok to do what you are saying.
Thanks for the question!
Guess this begs the question, if multiples of the same skin were bought, any word how that is to be dealt with? (EG: bought skin for PVE/WvW and sPvP)
Previously when something like this occurred the “gems” were refunded.
Curious if this will be the case again.
Ever consider that since names are at a premium unlike a characters looks, that it is worth more, in fact a lot more given how RARE a given name is.
For those that aren’t up to speed on it, a name can be taken only once, as it becomes locked across all servers. So yea, i think the higher cost is warranted.
Not only for that reason, but i also have no sympathy for people that name their character(s) <stupid name here>. If it was that important to the person to worry about the name, just maybe that should have been considered from the start. You want the ability to change <stupid name>, pay for it and quit griping, personally I’d think you need to go with the delete option, but that’s just me.
(Can you tell i have a hatred for people with stupid names?)
Hundreds, if not thousands of precursors get introduced into the economy every day and dozens
I’d like to see the source for this.
I’d be surprised if a given server sees 5 a day.
100 per day you may be right, across all servers, but thousands, highly doubtful.
kitten the trinity
Ditto.
Been waiting since they announced it: Weapons, new (never seen before) and current (adds primary/secondary for those that are missing).
My Mesmer, has 2 pistols in inventory, and the second has been sitting there for a very long time waiting for the update that would add it in as a primary.
Will it be this one? We’ll see i guess.
They can’t keep you logging in every day if they allow you to buy that with karma.
Silliest statement i see on this forum. If people aren’t able to find a reason to keep playing (farming karma as an alternative to dragonite in this suggestion), then guess what Sparky, they ain’t gonna be playing anyways. This is not a paid subscription game, Anet does not care that you “logged in today”. It isn’t gonna change anything whether you log in or not.
I for one don’t see an issue with the suggestion, but then again my only issue is with time gating of the mats, not how they are gotten. Though to be fair, i think more options over all is a good thing.
Yay 24 hours for my epic….. string.
Well ok its not epic, but it’s still string that takes 24 hours to make. So much facpalm with that statement, the dev who decided that … I don’t even. /eyeroll
The game is balanced around 5v5 not 1v1.
Fundamental flaw with the game right there, has been since mmo’s began.
If you don’t balance the foundation, then the top is NEVER balanced. Every tournament they have had has only proven this as certain professions are inevitably left out in the cold.
The rotation of buffs and nerfs never fixes the bottom line and that’s, that there is no balance and never will be. The cycle simply gives the illusion of change, and the rotation is simply perpetual for what profession is highest and lowest at any given time.
Wow, just wow. They decided to break on death (non-pu) builds again. So much for the iCelerity fix when they break the build again the following patch.
Whats the point anymore.
So much false information in the above post…..thanks, it made me giggle.
As of several patches ago, this was fixed and they do show off hand weapons now. Was a stealth fix, rare for us.
Maybe a bug for your current weapons used?
How about an elite weapon like ele’s fiery greatsword. It could be a big mirror that gives you 5 new weapon skills and lasts for 20 seconds
1. your auto-attack is whatever attack you were last hit by
2. creates an asura portal that pulls nearby enemies and grants retalition to allies
3. sends all your conditions to your target and all your boons to nearby allies
4. reflects all projectiles for 5 seconds, reflected projectiles have a chance to stun
5. shatters the mirror, doing big AoE damage and stripping all boons from enemies
Kinda like this one, although it feels more like an Elementalist skill then for mes, but i like it non-the-less.
Specific class tactics… Great idea!
With various weapon sets, not limiting to just a few.
So you want to make a that increases your damage, healing, clones, boons and conditions by 50% on a 20-40 second cooldown and you ask us not to think of overpowered skills?
There’s a difference between OP and God or administrator skill. Also i did say that if everyone epic skills were you know epic, then our op skill wouldn’t be any more op then any other. Think before you speak, or you know, use a little imagination.
No wonder the Dev team seems to have no current interest in changing epic skills, the player base obviously doesn’t either.
1. – The fact we don’t have a Pistol main hand, or any 1 handed power based range weapons.
2. – That elite skills simply aren’t elite for any profession, and in most cases being able to choose another secondary skill would be preferred.
A lot of people have had issues with epic skills in GW2. They are either too long of cooldown, or the effect just doesn’t really feel epic. But if you were a Dev and had the option to actually make epic skills feel epic, what would you do? Keep in mind all professions would also get “epic” skills like those suggested here, so balance doesn’t really enter the equation with your ideas. Do keep them somewhat realistic, a skill to one shot players/npcs isn’t very epic, so keep em fun.
Mine would be something like this.
Epic skill: Chaotic Simulacrum
Type: Clone
Cast Time: 2 sec
Duration: 20 sec
Cooldown: 40 sec
Description: Create a Clone that spawns next to your character, and mimics your abilities and movements. The simulacrum can summon up to 3 illusions of its own. Damage done by Chaotic Simulacrum is 1/2 that of the player.
It will dodge and move forward/backward/side/strafe as you do. It will also summon Illusions and shatter them just as the player does. Health for the clone is the same as the player character.

So what would you make?
Thought this was gonna be another “Why must the bunnies die?” thread.
If you don’t know what I mean, you will.
Windows 95
IBM PC 333MHz 80486
8MB Ram
Hard Drive 50MB
Double Speed CD-ROM drive (330K/sec sustained transfer rate with MSCDEX version 2.2
Super VGA Graphics for 640 × 480 × 256 colors
Windows 95 compatible soundcard
Microsoft-compatible mouse
CD AudioSteady 60FPS throughout the world of Tyria.
Woulda been more believable if you used 3.5
Just off the top of my head from when I built it a year ago:
ASUS- Serverboard
2x Xeon quad core @ 3.0ghz
16gb RAM
64bit Win7 Ultimate (previously ran server 2003)
RAID 10 of 4tb (for data drive, OS is separated)
At this point I’m hopeful.
GW2 has a lot of potential still, that has remained up to this point, unrealized fully.
They’ve started to creep some things that I hope are coming in full swing in 2014, namely new weapon/secondary skills and new traits. This would do a lot for the game and revitalize it for many. It’s already been hinted at with the new healing skills all professions received, if they keep it coming at a decent pace, it could very well change the game enough to keep people playing and building for some time to come.
So I’m hopeful in that regard.
TL:DR: Permanent character affecting content > anything else that could be developed outside of expansion like content (new races increase level caps ect ect for expansions)
Isn’t phantasmal fury still bugged?
I run a version of it to mess with on occasion:
Faster weapon use, even more stupid amounts of condition removal when dealing with zergs, and of course more conditions.
Because I like to be able to distinguish classes on a glance in WvW/sPvP.
Which is done by icon not the gear they are wearing.
You’ll rarely be able to tell the exact profession by armor alone. Cloth you still have three, same with leather. It isn’t their gear telling you the professions, but the icon that goes when you target them.
Also armor appearance is optional, the old default setting is still there that sets everyone to the same generic model.
I run a similar build but focus on using Rampager’s gear for higher top end damage:

The heal gives me ample regen as I tend to always keep three illusions up, and the on heal is very useful to get an iDisenchanter back on the field if you need it “now”. With a 16sec recharge it doesn’t happen very often, but it’s a nice back up for heavy condition specs. Offensively it excels at clone generation: GS clone every 4 sec, Sword ever 7 sec. Works well for me, and has countered a number of PU builds, although it’s hard to gauge if the PU player was really good at that build. I also love the extra bounce for GS clone and iDisenchanter.
Edit: This is as close as I can make the build as it use to be when iCelerity was a 5 point trait. I loose the ability to take 10 in Inspiration line.
(edited by Xovian.8572)
I wasn’t trying to make fun of any builds or you, I don’t mind PU phant/condi builds. It only bothers me when people use those builds, stomp me to the ground and brag about how good they are. Other then that I apologize if I unintentionally offended you and any others on here, and I agree that saying all that was unnecessary. Guess I was having a lil heated moment sorry.
I see no reason for you to apologize here.
You simply stated your stance on it, everyone’s entitled their opinion. An opinion many do share BTW. Besides, you weren’t calling people names or attacking anyone.
If people can’t be as effective with other builds, it simply comes down to the Mesmer skill cap which is generally higher then a lot of professions. It really is amazing as to just a few changes in traits or doing a full weapon swap can so completely change us and the play style so heavily. (EX: A person who uses staff primarily swapping to another primary weapon for example, it can really throw peoples game off)
As a Mesmer and Thief player in WvW, I can say in good faith, a good thief will be all BUT impossible to kill for any Mesmer build. Simply put they can out last our defensive cooldowns, and if it for some reason it starts going south, they can simply reset the battle to square one.
Our biggest bane will be any thief who has some patience, and the willingness to try and outlast our cooldowns. Not to mention there are some builds still around that while glassy can still kill us in 4 seconds flat depending on our own build/gear setup at the time. Like every fight it will come down to who makes more mistakes, but the odds should be in the theif’s will house if they have a clue.
How did you make on-death builds with 25 in illusions? That seems like a very bad choice to me. Or maybe you should just read my post again.
It wasn’t 25 points when i ran the build (from release), it was 5 until it got changed to be a grand master trait (25). I’ve been running clone on death builds from release. Needless to say I didn’t do as well after the change. It broke it by a mere 5 points, but broke it non-the-less.
The recent change has made it better but still not optimal as it was.
Though admittedly there are better options to choose from given all the changes since those earlier changes.
Edit: Changed from not used to showing it was less effective, because i’ve never stopped using clone on death builds (non PU).

Signet of the ether is maybe 330 HP/sec, only with 3 illusions up, and heals 5.5k with a 35s cooldown.
Fixed.
There are some pros/cons for the signet to be sure.
Pros:
-Stacked regen, depending on build, with the ability to have this signet with Phantasmal Healing is quite nice. Regen over extended fights saves on up time and reduced down time for required healing, so it makes sense it has a longer cooldown.
-Signet and healing specific traits which we have quite a few: Blurred Inscriptions, Cleansing Inscriptions and of course Menders Purity which if traited makes this skill remove 3 conditions by itself, so nothing to scoff at. I tested it with iDisenchanter, and it was very rare for me to have any conditions at all as stacks generally get applied quickly, and were simply removed with the heal and the phantasm quickly got any remaining.
-The secondary effect for refreshing phantasms was a bigger boon then i think it gets credit for. Simply put being able to both heal and get a specific phat out again, made it well worth while (in the case of iDisenchanter, it was life saving fairly often when outnumbered). I do agree, it’s offensive potential is there but i dont think it’s the best use, but defensively it can hold its own vs any other heal we have.
Cons:
-Requires illusions being up, this is probably the biggest negative as most signets passive remain active at all times, this one doesn’t due to the requirement of needing illusions active. AoE that easily kills illusions makes this skill hard pressed to even think of keeping up with some other heals.
-Cooldown, it’s the longest one we have, so it’s always risky to use it, because the time to refresh makes it that much harder to decide to use it.
-Cast time, while not inferior compared to non-mantra heals, it is a negative because the animation does telegraph to opponents what you are doing.
Just some stuff to think about that may not have been mentioned.
The thing that annoys me, is that completely wasnt true. At all. We actually avoided IC for the most part,
Speak for yourself.
The hit to “on death” builds was significant when they changed it from an adept to a grand master, in fact it basically broke it. You’re being a bit short sighted if you think it didn’t cripple quite a few builds though. At least those that relied on both clones and phantasms being up at all times.
You know, I’m actually afraid there’s going to be a tide of FoTM (flavor of the month) terribad Mesmer because of this patch… Which will then lead to nerfs. Ugh. -_-
This was already happening as of late thanks to PU builds (and it’s variants), at least in WvW. Never seen so many kitten scepter Mesmer’s. Aside from myself, have ran into only one other with in the last month and a half that wasn’t using scepter or a PU build.
Maybe I’m unlucky with the mes’s i’m running into as i tend to only roam. But if it keeps picking up speed, this will be the next nerf that gets put on the Dev “to do” list. Scepter got a buff, it gonna get the nerf hit too, if it remains so popular.
Its fairly easy to get out of combat during a fight, but still be close by to re-engage. The “regeneration time” would have to be so long to make it pretty much the same as the cooldown + recharge, at least.
I’d be good with something like that.
It’s really only a quality of life issue, but it would get rid of the tediousness of having to recharge back to full count, out of combat.
Upside down unicorn, from Natsu, gets my vote.
1. Expanded weapon skill set choices for all professions, including some that are not currently in game.
2. More Traits, and updating the current to actually make each trait “good”.
3. Allow all classes to use all armor, visuals only.
(edited by Xovian.8572)
My Mesmer wishlist (in order of preference):
1:; Primary Hand Pistol
1: Mind Shot: Three shot combo every X seconds, adds vulnerability on third shot.
2: Chaotic Unload: 4 shots in rapid fire, 4th removes a boon.
5: Chaos Reversed: Spawn a clone that dodges backwards, becomes “Swap”.
2: A “Torch” skin that actually matches those of the Whisperblade / Vision of Mists.
3: A signet choice that does have a 25% run speed in addition to its current.
4: General: armor appearance item that allows mixed armor visuals (visual only not stats).
Dear santa. i would like a main hand pistol and more aoe/ zerg abilities for the mesmer. im fine with being slow and all, but i would like to move away from the veil/tw bot role in wvw which is very very very very very boring!
^ +1
My wish list exactly.
It’s been suggested before. However, i do believe it would give more build variety then we currently have. I’d even run it on my mesmer as that 4th slot would always be the " you never know what they gonna use" slot.
I think females get the best armor visuals plus i like playing the mini game Dress Up Wars 2 . Haha.
Corrected and agreed. It’s all about style and aesthetics. Females characters have more options in this department, so it only makes sense there are more of them.
I’d also like to second, third the idea’s of how our secondaries are being shown as boons (food, mantras ect) but they do not show up on clones making us more easily identified to players in PvP. It’s currently the PRIMARY reason i wont use mantras in a pvp environment. It’s like a big neon sign saying “attack me here!”
Not sure how easy it would be, but it would be nice if clones at least spawned with whatever current “boons” the mesmer has that way as players target and see a clone they become just as likely to attack it as they are the player which is their whole purpose.
In pve this makes no difference, but it is a lot more then a quality of life improvement when it comes to pvp, it’s just fairness.
