Solo Dungeon?

in Last Stand at Southsun

Posted by: Xuro.5861

Xuro.5861

Did I really read it right? The story will end in a solo instance? I thought we are playing a MMO here? Sorry but the amount of sympathy you are throwing towards complainers is becoming a bit to much. Now that they have their solo dungeon, I’m quite sure the next complaint will be the difficulty (“OMG dungeon so hard, please nerf!!!!”).

Solo instance = no challenge as it will be made to be catered to the less skilled players aswell, especially since teamwork is not possible, every encounter will be a “tank-and-spank” fest.

I will probably sound like an “elitist” by now but quite some people have been asking for new challenges within GW2 for months now and all we get is even more “casualized” content.

Personally I enjoy the Living Story a lot but if I had the choice between new challenging content or the current Living Story, I would take the challenging content any day.

Anyone else who thinks like this?

Damage Numbers DPS Builds Requested

Xuro.5861

Hello,

I’ve always played a full clerics support build so I could always carry bad parties in dungeons and fractals but I’ve reached a point where I’m wanting more dps.

Could people running with full knight’s or a mix of knight’s and berserker’s please post their gear and average damage against normal level 80 monsters with the greatsword skills? It would show me the damage differences with my build and a dps focused build.

Any help is appreciated.

Dredge Fractal - Bags nerfed

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Xuro.5861

Xuro.5861

Why … just why?

It was the last source of income in FotM that was reasonable, I would get around 3 to 5 t6 mats per run which is a mere 1 gold. The chance for other drops like lodestones was quite low so it was a rare sight to see any of those.

1 Gold in 30-45 minutes is to much appareantly? Yet the CoF farm which is 6 to 8 gold per hour stays untouched.

I’ve never complained about nerfed drops inside dungeons or fractals but this is just becoming ridiculous, you don’t want people to farm yet you nerf everything except the biggest farm in the game which has been going on for half a year now.

I never made a warrior or mesmer as I loathe the CoF farm (and dislike the classes) but it’s becoming clear that’s what the developers appareantly want us to do every day.

IMO, Farming nerfs are killing this game

Hahaha, love the people stating that a legendary should take years.

Maybe your life is so insignificant for you that you can dedicate years to a single game but for people that actually realise their life is quite short in the grand scheme of things, this is a very bad and quite sad statement.

A few months of casual play for a single item is already an above average time dedication towards a game, let alone farming for months. If I would have to play for two or three years to obtain a single legendary, it would cost me nearly the same time as a full (re)education, in other words, thousands of valuable hours that any person on this planet can spend more wisely.

If the developers really didn’t want us to farm, they would make it rain materials so you actually wouldn’t have to farm to achieve a legendary. So the logic most people apply here to defend the game is actually very wrong. The simple truth is they want people to buy gems instead of farm the gold, that’s their main income so it’s quite normal they try so hard to force people towards this. So it’s either farm like mad or buy gems, casual play won’t get you anywhere (imagine having to get a single legendary for 8 alts, that would take decades of casual play).

That being said, the PR department deserves a raise because I have never seen such a brainwashed mass in any MMO for 8 months straight.

My post may seem hostile but that’s how it is, reality is hard.

My Dungeon experience

Xuro.5861

Xuro, omgosh. You must be a super duper awesome player. I’m so jealous!! girlycutesyface (O_o) I am not sure what you are trying to tell us. Are we so stupid and incompetent? Are you so awesome and wise? Ultimately it really doesn’t matter because the game should address the both of us. (brought to a more general level. The entire group of players is not consistently made of hardcore, super talented and experienced players and at least imho a game should cater to all of its players).

That is your biggest mistake, assuming this content was meant for everyone. Explorable Mode was meant for the raid orientated people, meaning only organised parties. The fact that we can PUG it so easily at the moment actually means it’s not hard enough currently.

Improve your skill and you will see how easy the dungeons really are. Nobody is to blame for your nearly failure in the dungeon except yourself and your team.

My friends and me clear this path in 15 minutes including Kholer when we want fast tokens. It seems nobody in your team was utilizing the potential of their class.

The dungeon became even easier than before the revamp so it’s not the dungeon.

I’m sure that once you and your friends learn to optimize the potential of your class and use proper communication, you will also faceroll this dungeon like many experienced players do.

Chinese GW2 beta

Xuro.5861

More news on GW2 regarding servers around the world from someone who’s known to bring a lot of accurate news on certain Chinese forum(said to be working in NCSoft).

  1. There will be an “Asian server”, different from “Chinese server”
  2. Asian server is worked by and will be run by NCSoft itself
  3. There will be Chinese, Japanese, and Korean interface in the Asian client, as well as Korean voice-over
  4. Simplified Chinese will be in Chinese server only
  5. Players who uses client by Anet/NCSoft will be able to decide to join the Asian server besides NA and EU while playing the game for the first time

And there are rumors(not from the same person) that Chinese server will be free to play, pay to win.

Pay to Win is impossible if NA and EU players can transfer to the Asian/Chinese servers so that rumor already holds no water (else we could go to Asian/Chinese servers, buy our pay to win stuff and transfer back along with the items).

The game is doing fine financially (you can view quarterly reports on the NCSoft website if you are interested) and will continue to grow once the localization for China is finished.

The article writer for Escapist Magazine should be fired, he writes like a 12 year old who heard some rumors and immediately panics without checking all released information along with other stated facts.

For example, they are strenghtening the core of the game first before they expand as there was alot of negative feedback on the core of the game. This has been stated several times and the writer would know this if he did a proper investigation on the subject.

They are clearly improving the core of the game, along with the localization in China. Once both are finished we will see an expansion announcement I think.

All of us were at 4/5 before you deployed the previous patch where you fixed alot of the achievements that lost 1 points due to another bugged patch. Appareantly that patch progressed it to 5/5 but didn’t reset it.

My god what a horror experience.

3 Of my friends and me decided to do tournaments for a change since we always PvE together. We are between rank 6 and 15 so not that experienced in tPvP yet.

We enter and where do we end up …

Match 1 it’s us versus a team of level 40s in the same guild.
Match 2 it’s us versus a team of level 30’s in the same guild.
Match 3 it’s us versus a team of level 20’s + 30’s not in the same guild.

Why the f are we placed against such organised teams? We are getting our kitten handed to us (100 – 500 loss) and after this experience I will personally never set foot in that place again after finishing my monthly this month (for the laurels).

What a joke.

p.s. Yes I’m mad.

Living Story Rewards

Although the content you are adding is alot of fun, I feel the team that handles the rewards lacks experience for properly giving out rewards so I would like to give an example of how you can reward people across 4 months without influencing the economics of your game.

A simple setup that would build a strong core for rewards would be something along the lines of this:

Prelude Month 1

We got the drawing which was a pleasant surprise to most people, I would however made it so that you can use it once, and receive a copy of the drawing to keep forever. Collectors love these kind of small things.

Prelude Month 2

Whenever you helped all the refugees they would like to thank you by rewarding you the following items:

- Refugee Backpack
- 5x Refugee transformation potion
- 5x Karma Jug
- 3 Laurels
- 1 New unlocked title.

Living Story Month 3

Although we are still in the first week, I believe most of the rewards have already been given so that’s why I feel like another example is needed here.

- Molten Alliance Dredge Mini Pet (account bound)
- 1 Ticket for a Refugee Weapon (not the Fused weapons, a new set of weapons so that your sales don’t get affected)
- 10 Karma Jugs
- 1 New unlocked title.

Living Story Month 4

Although nobody knows the rewards yet for the last month, I still would like to give an example of something that would probably work.

- Molten Alliance Flame Legion Mini Pet (account bound)
- Final Living Story Boss as Mini Pet (account bound)
- 10 Karma Jugs
- Final title

All these rewards are once of a lifetime and that’s what matters. In a few years your loyal playerbase has something to showoff and it allows people to attach memories about this part of the Living Story to their character and the involved items.

General Talk

It’s pretty clear that the development in both quality and quantity is increasing in the Living Story team and I’m excited to see where all of this will lead too.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post, I hope it was usefull. If anyone would like to add anything, feel free to do so, but please keep it civil/constructive.

Xuro.5861

After closely following the Living Story for 3 months I decided to post my own constructive feedback along with suggestions on how to improve the experience within each section of the Living Story.

Feel free to add your own input but please keep it constructive and about the Living Story itself. Complaints about the RNG involved with the Black Lion Chests have their own seperate topic.

Refugee Volunteer

Not much to say about this one, it was pretty straight forward and finished within 20 minutes.

Suggestions to improve it

- Several events which involve protecting the caravans while they pass in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau, this would give it a more “alive” feeling as the player will get involved a bit more.

Lost and Found

This one was also pretty easy to figure out, two new items to be found each week. The spawn locations seemed very static, even though they were different on each server. I personally liked that every NPC you had to help gave a small teaser of why they were in Lion’s Arch.

Suggestions to improve it

- Whenever you returned an item to the NPC, give the player an extra teaser so that when you talk to the NPC again, it will recognize that you helped him or her and offers you another small teaser towards the storyline.

The Gathering Storm

Not much to say about this one, we have a similar achievement with every other holiday event and they are usually finished within an hour.

Suggestions to improve it

- Add several more tiers, up to 500 or 1,000 kills. This may sound like a grind but with all the events going on, alongside the new dungeons and upcoming content, it would be finished easily within the timeframe of 4 months.

Secret Contact

I loved this one, searching for clues around both area’s and then learning new tidbits about the story was both very interesting and hilarious. I love the sense of humor that’s attached to most of the messages and I wouldn’t mind searching for more clues.

Suggestions to improve it

- Some are very close to each other, spreading them out a bit more would increase the difficulty of finding them all.

- Make the locations random so that no guides can be created, this way it will feel like a real hunt, this will create another layer of immersion for most people too.

Living Story Instances

I’ve done both a few times now and I would like to post both the positive and negative points that I experienced.

Positive

- Beautifull area’s, it really feels like a part of the Molten Alliance

- Fast paced with nearly no cooldowns between battles, it gives a more intens experience

- The NPC involvement is great which adds very nicely to the immersion.

Negative

- Able to solo, seeing how both the Charr and Norn are fleeing, it’s a bit silly that you can solo the instances along with their final bosses.

- Only one final boss, I think one or more mini bosses between the different steps that you take would intensify the experience (if you increase the general difficulty stated as above).

- Not the proper rewards, I will talk more about this at the end of this post.

Suggestions to improve it

- Build it for a party of 3 to 5, mostly for the immersion and the general mmo experience.

- Triple the monsters inside the dungeon, give it an army feeling.

- Add more bosses along with a few small rewards, like a jug of 500 karma after each boss.

What I’m not looking for is a guild with 500 members or a guild that does 2 events together per week and call it ‘cozy and active.’ I’m looking for a small to decent sized guild (means no more than 40 members, preferably under 30) who does activities together on a daily base.

I have access to any kind of voice chat and I play on a daily base.

Please do not bother to reply if your guild breaks one of the stated requirements, I tried plenty of those and all fail on their promises.

Will all dailies/monthlies and infinite sources be counted in this ranking? If so, it seems rather useless as it will be all about who has the most money to blow on salvaging then.

Could any developer please give us more information on this?

As we warned earlier this year, we’ll be closing out the infinitely repeatable achievements and capping them at a reasonable achievement number due to these rankings and the rewards we plan to add to total achievement points someday. These achievements will get capped with this release.

Daily/Monthly achievements won’t be changed.

That’s very good news. How about the dailies + monthlies? They currently give a huge advantage over the newer players, is there any chance they will be deleted in the future to create a more “fair” achievement competition?

If they stay the same, newer players have absolutely no chance to ever get into the rankings as they will miss several thousand points by now.

Shortbow + Axe/Axe

I retired my ranger 4 months ago untill we received a proper buff which makes our pet last more than 5 seconds against a boss and we still haven’t received anything so I’m kind of just messing around with my ranger as I got bored on my guardian.

Did anyone ever try this combination? I loathe the sword animation so that’s no option for me and this combination doesn’t seem that bad, use the shortbow for 1vs1 situations and the axe/axe for everything else (since the 5th skill got buffed it should give out decent damage now I guess)

I was thinking about getting some precision/toughness/condition gear with it to compliment both weaponsets.

No GW2 Expansions or Sequels (Anytime Soon)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xuro.5861

Xuro.5861

This can be both good and bad news.

If good, it means their revenue is enough to satisfy the investors of NCSoft which allows them to take their time to strengthen the core of their game.

If bad, it means there is not enough revenue and they no longer want to invest into expanding the product beyond basic additions which we are seeing at the moment. Creating expansions costs a lot of money so the risk versus reward is bigger.

Which one it is is yet to be seen but I certainly hope they add new classes or races this year or people will get bored, content only lasts for so long in this competitive enviroment.

p.s. I’m well aware they are making plenty of revenue to make a profit, but whether the investors are satisified or not is something we will never know as customer.

Robert Hrouda on pets in dungeons

in Ranger

Xuro.5861

Here’s a thought I just had.

What if we made f3 use a defensive dodge skill instead of returning to the player, and we re-did the “Guard” and “Avoid Combat” button to better serve the function of “return and Heel” and “Attack and be aggro”

So it would be f1 to attack target, f2 to use special skill, f3 to use defensive ‘dodge’ skill, and our stance button would then be tweaked.

Thank you for answering us in the ranger forum.

I like this idea, maybe something to expand on it:

When you use the F3 dodge skill, it takes 25% of the ranger their stamina, meaning that you can use it 4 times in a row before you run out. After two dodges, when you run low on stamina, you will have to make a choice, use the last bar of stamina to save your own butt or sacrifice most of your hp / take the hit to save your pet …

I believe this would actually create a whole new level of difficulty as several encounters can put great pressure on you or your pet easily.

I picked 25% as this will allow two dodges before you have to decide for your last bar.

Why I loathe RNG ...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xuro.5861

After 5 months of pretty hardcore playing and farming, I saw 3 precursors drop to pretty new players (between 1500 and 2500 achievement points) the past few days and I decided I’m pretty much done with the game.

In 5 months …

- I have farmed over 5000 events, yet I never found an exotic / precursor.
- I have farmed over 250 dungeon paths, yet I never found a named exotic / precursor.
- I have farmed over 250 fractals, yet I never found a named exotic / precursor.
- I have opened over 50 black lion chests and only received a few boosters along with transformation potions.
- I have spent over 500k karma on Orrian Boxes and have yet to receive a mini (love gathering these in any mmo).

I have reached world completion on 5 characters of which I deleted two, I have seen the world inside out and I have dropped absolutely nothing anywhere while doing so.

I have hoarded nearly 5.4k achievement points (only 200 are from infinite sources) yet again nowhere any closer to my legendary.

Now after 5 months I have absolutely nothing to show for it, I am nowhere closer to my legendary with my bad luck, I have only half of a T3 set along with a few dungeon skins on all my characters.

I played Korean MMO grindfests for 6 years and even had better drops there. This is simply mindblowing that a supposed AAA mmo can have this much RNG involved.

Anyone else who has the same experience as me?

They hold the same value as your legendary, the value you attach personally to it.

How do they beat you in points within a single day? You only have 20 points in achievement?

You obtain 25 per day, a maxed slayer achievement which can take from 6 to 24 hours grinding gives 16.

Basic math can’t be that hard.

As an avid achievement hunter in every MMO I play I cannot feel anything but sad with this new update. From now on you get 25 points for free per day, meaning that hard earned achievements like for example the plant slayer become utterly useless since anyone spamming dailies will beat me in points within a single day (plant slayer achievement can take quite a while to say the least)

The value was already lessened with the infinite achievements but this pretty much hits the last nail in the coffin. There is absolutely no reason for any achievement hunters to play this game anymore, every bit of fair competition is gone. The idea is that eventually people finish the achievements and can say, I achieved this. Instead we have an infinite hamsterwheel which holds no value gameplay wise.

Not a single MMO ever had infinite points into their achievement system since it ruins the entire purpose, why do you try to reinvent the wheel when it worked for over a decade?

Check in with the heralds for updates. There are hints of things to come already in the game.

The playable Living Story content will start appearing tomorrow (January 29) at around noon Pacific Time in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. When the events start in Diessa Plateau, you’ll be sent an in-game mail letting you know about it. However, if you’re already logged in when that happens, you need to change maps to receive it.

Is it a one time event or will it repeat infinite times afterwards?

What set for FotM?

What set do my fellow guardians use in FotM when playing with PUGs? I tend to use Power/Vitality/Toughness combined with knights jewelry so I can soak up damage when I need to ress or distract the boss.

Now that I have to pick my rings/amulet I’m not sure which one to get considering higher level FotM seems to be more about dps rather than tanking.

Any guardian who experienced higher level fractals can share their experiences in using certain items? ^^
