Anyone else crushed by the precursor dump?

Hey OP, I was doing the same thing you did weeks again. I used the first 40g I earn to buy the Energizer so that I can start a legendary crafting game that is affordable and not an off-hand and underwater. The plan went well and it only needed some Karma and a run on temple of Balthazar. Not until last week I read the news of Anet regarding to precursors. I am not smart but it was almost written in simple English that they are going to make precursors so cheap that everyone want one could have one. So I painfully discarded my Moot plan and sold my Energizer on last Wednesdays for 70g (hope that wasn’t the one you brought). When I went out and talked to someone on map, they all told me to think again and kept stating that it will only be “easier” not “easy”. And just a weekend later, I buy my Energizer back and a Leaf of Kudzu even I have completely bad luck on chest as always. I try to bid Dawn and Dusk, but not fast enough before those manipulators come back. The dump is not exactly what I expected but it still works for me. Now I have 2 precursors, one for my ranger and one for my warrior. They will keep me busy for months and I don’t need to worry about precursor for short time.

Here are some of my opinions: 1) This isn’t gonna hurt or stop most of the manipulators. Indeed, they just have the chance to buy more while cheap and make even more profit. Crush like this only hurt the normal players like OP who have no controlling power over the price but willing to commit to the cause. 2) Maybe I just don’t play enough MMORPGs. I never know any dev that won’t make the content easy when some of their paying customers complain it is too hard, even if those content are meant to be hard. 3) To sum it up, the precursor will slowly rise back because there are still manipulators, supply are still not catching up demand and the amount of available precursor are few enough to be cornered. And it will crush again by dev by many means. Anyway, legendary crafters are likely to be good paying and staying customers. They need them more than anything else in this hard time. However, it won’t be their top priority now since they are very busy now dealing the other matters.

No Guilds nor Wars, only Fractals

Maybe it is just temporal, or maybe it is only due to low population of my server, I feel fotm is killing this game for me, faster than 10-mins exp dungeons. And no, I don’t mean I hate it. In fact, I like it. It is good. The problem is it is too good. There is no points you do anything other than fractals. All maps beside LA are empty now. Guilds are literally in fractals of 5. My whole server is in fractals. One thing I like about GW2 is that you can have your progression on many different goals (fancy-looking exotics, legionaries, achievements etc) in many different ways, kind of like a sandbox. Now most of them are getting nerf or dump down. I mean if so, why don’t you just have a join/create fotm option on the character selection screen so we can go directly form groups to fotm? Why need the social parts like guilds, communities? Why need a worlds to explore? Why need a crafting system? Why need a story line? Fractals always gives faster gold, better gears, better drop. I feel I lack the motivation to play. I don’t know if anyone feel the same.

P.S. The thread is a bit related but not talking about ascended gears. Pleas don’t hijack it too far away.

Were Exotics really not worth it?

Exotics includes a very wide range of item. If you are talking about exotics that are sold for 1.5g or rewarded from a few 10-mins-long dungeon runs, then YES. Even if there is a better tier of items, they are still an efficient way to increase your stat. They will serve the role which rare items are serving now; If you are talking some exotics that cost tens to hundreds of golds, then well, at least you already got your time to show off your “mini legendary”.

BTW, those exotics should never be at same tier at the first place.

To make legendaries “legendary” it should be exceptionally hard to do not just who can farm the most.

My idea would be clear all dungeons/pve large monsters/keep the explorable 100%/ some kind of pvp(not super grind badges)/ And some balls to the wall hard boss dungeon to complete the legendary like a 2nd mystic fountain that appears after the kill completion.

You do need 100% map completion, 500 BoH, 500 dungeon tokens and temple of Balthazar to craft every legendary. And they are exactly the “skill part”, I am talking about in previous post. You can rush it in a week.

so is it everything the same except no overpriced lodestone needed and free precursor?

No, not at all. It feels like people don’t actually read what I wrote.

My proposed legendary consists of 6 gifts, chosen out of 10 completely different ones, each focusing heavily on one aspect of the game. This means that essentially a player can completely skip crafting or WvW when completing their legendary item, of which the current legendary items require both.

Not sure if it’s starting to make sense yet, but this is quite different from the current used.

I think what he means by “the same” is, while your “gift system” is different, it’s still the “gift system”. Also, they can’t NOT craft when “ingots” are required. if they don’t craft, they have to buy it from the TP, or have someone make it for them. BOTH have the potential to let greedy players take advantage of your situation. Which they will. They already ARE lol. A better system is to keep things the way they are NOW, and add a secondary option that requires NO gifts, but, still takes a LONG time. Like the one i posted in the link a few posts above. That one will pull the rug from under the feet of players that prey on other players. Nobody is going to buy your expensive crap if there is another option that would bypass it.

What I mean “the same” is that it just mark the hard parts, let it be precursor , lodestones or ecto, as “grind part” and ask dev to replace these “grind parts” with “skill parts” which are, well, easier grinds like dungeon runs. You still have to grind but it is shorter, easier and more clear on how long the grind is. To me, the whole point of this and many other suggestions seem to be making the time to craft a legendary shorter so they can rush it in a month and then either move on to another game or ask for more “endgame” which they can rush to break.

Legendaries getting easier to get?

I know you would say everyone can get one using Paypal, but majority of us legendary crafter got/is getting one because we have a superior plan. No, it is not that we farm more or we are luckier.

Except for that is total bull-kitten. I won’t take an credit away from the legit crafters or people that worked with their guilds and friends to make one, but they are not the “majority”

The majority of people with legendaries are the ones that exploited the karma mistake to promote items up to rares and exotics to either burn getting a precursor or to get the gold to buy one. Besides the people that jumped on that early, there wasn’t a follow through on the promise they made to get the ban lifted and people still converted all those items they were supposed to trash.

The majority of precursors in the TP are from RMTs and people running multiple bots. They convert gold to rares to precursors which they sell third party.

Removing the random components impacts the average player much less than it impacts those that have the income, by illegitimate needs, who brute force the odds.

They should still, and I am sure will, be extremely difficult/expensive to obtain. But there are game wide benefits to making components available other ways.

I work alone, never buy gold, am a bad gold earner and not smart enough to even know there is a karma exploit. I just run. And I am sure many are doing the same. Now if there is a shortcut, what is the point of having legendary in first place?

BTW there is always TP if you don’t like RNG, you only have to make money faster than others who want the precursor you want.

To me, Legendary is a challenges. It like a marathon, and there is winners and losers. That’s why it is worthy. That’s why I give up dungeons, cool-looking exotics gears and so many things to get one. And I don’t care how is the look of the trophy. I know you would say everyone can get one using Paypal, but majority of us legendary crafter got/is getting one because we have a superior plan. No, it is not that we farm more or we are luckier. It is because we research more, we save more and we give up more. If legendary/precursors can get from story line, everyone can get it. Then what is the point to craft an overpriced exotics? Don’t we have enough dungeon/mad king/mystic forge exotics for everyone?

Ranger is the best puller in game, and great pulls = smooth run. However the sadly true is that most of ranger don’t know how to pull and most of players don’t care about pulling. And ranger can tank with their bears. They can absorb way more damage than heavy class. Another important feature that get commonly ignored is that their spring heal conditions. Healing conditions is very very important because conditional damage is poorly balanced in some dungeons. Also entangle is one of the best CC in game. Their dps are low but they can keep the output even while defending/healing. The CON of ranger is that ranger have by far the worst survival in game.

I am not a guild leader or some where close to leadership but I know that feeling. I join a huge guild that has 700+ members. We are forced to split into 2 guilds due to 500 limit. For 450+ members our guild have, we never have 100+ members representing our guild at once. And 50 man are the most we can mobilize. I know some quit this game, some have a busy real life so can’t play much, but most of them are not active because they can have multiple guilds and each could serve its purpose better. This guild could be their “main” guild and they join other for different reasons, like playing with real life friends, time zone. Or it could be their “alt” and they join us just for some purposes, like wvw karma train.

Taking me for example, beside that huge guild, I also have a one-man stash guild which allow me to trade/store items better and I am currently looking for a dungeon only guild. I would not say multiple guilds system is destructive. It is great but it has problems. It spread some guilds’ member, especially big causal guilds’ member, thin. And worse, it “disconnect” member who are using the system to do something else.

My suggestion is that ANET should have something like “Community” or “Alliance”. “Community/Alliance”should have no bonus but no member limit and more in-game social functions, like a chat channel, in-game message board/forum, conference-room instance, newsletter. It could have many guilds in it and it should have roundtable kind of management so small guilds could join while remaining independent. This allow player stay connected even they are on other businesses and join the event once they are done. It help big guilds to organize events better. And it also help forming small specialized guilds, like JP/dungeon/explore guilds, which do help players a lot.

P.S. If there isn’t one, looking for knowledgeable dungeon players to form one.

YPC.6349

I can list so many reasons why 100g is NOT a brilliant design. I would like to have a leader based on merit and not someone who just happened to gather money.

100g Commander allows for multiple leaders, as long as they have the money, on a map. They’ll be shouting out commands and just maybe they’re not cooperating with eachother. Who do you follow?

If we had 1 respectable leader that we all voted for, we know how clean plans will be. If the leader turned out to be a dope, then we’ll learn to vote for someone else.

You can respect whatever commander you want to respecte and ignore/block the other you don’t like. What you asking is to idolize someone and build a dictatorship around him. But even this won’t help as people are still free to do whatever they want to do. It only punishes guilds that need the commander/squad feature. And not to mention the politic and drama.

100g is a brilliant design. Cheap enough for real leaders to acquire via gold pool. Expansive enough to keep others away. Simple, no bugs, no exploits, no drama, no politic, just works. And I dislike “vote” idea the most, votes in internet are always very ugly.

A different kind of Kaineng War Report.

YPC.6349

For guilds, Kaineng is just like Wild West. Many guilds came, most gave up, few are enjoying success they will never find outside Kaineng. SoS is an example. It is a very “causal” guild. It doesn’t have tons of real money to burn or a team of super hardcore “pro-players” or a lot of internet resource like forum/website etc. Given they don’t roll in Kaineng, their number will hardly reach 70 and very few will know about them. However, for some reasons they rolled in Kaineng. In Kaineng, they absorbed a huge number of un-guilded players where there is so few resourceful guilds to compete with them. They have 4 empty wvw maps to play with everyday, anytime they want. Right now they are 700+ and growing, and becoming more experienced and organized everyday. So if you have a “small” guild and are willing to play a high risk\high reward game, Kaineng is the place.

Commander rank: Why gold, when we have Influence and Badges of Honor?

in WvW

Posted by: YPC.6349

YPC.6349

YPC, your claim that 100g is cheap does not mesh with your #3 claim.

Also, #1 is a bit off. The amount of influence generated by the login bonus is trivial. The huge bulk of influence comes from members completing events. Ideally, the Commander’s book would be a 3-day consumable that has to be constantly repurchased, with an influence cost of, say, 5000. A moderately sized guild would be able to run 2-3 of them (at some expense to buffs). Anyone could buy or bot the influence needed, short term, but they couldn’t keep it up.

Only real guilds with real players would be able to keep it going long-term.

Login (Attendance Check) is not trivial. 1 player can have at least 5 char. Each char give 10 influence everyday. 40 players have 200 char give 2000 influence everyday. That means your guild can have free commander book for just having 40 guildmates doing nothing but login. Not to mention player can still hire workshop to farm commander book, which you still have CCC but only cheaper.

100g is really cheap. Once you hit 80 and master all crafts you want to master, you know what I am talking about. It is even solo-able in half year. It merely serves as a small proof of commitment and a mean to stop spam/abuse.

100 g is cheap. By Xmas, you will see lots of them. The reasons it is purchased by gold are:
1) influence is super cheap. I don’t even consider this as valid currency. Guild can earn influence by just having members login in everyday, which is surely botable and can easily be exploited(multi-guilds).
2) BoH is account bound.
3) 100g means you and your guildmate really have to commit something before you can spam the map with blue icons.

Why all the complaints against Northern Shiverpeaks!?

in WvW

Posted by: YPC.6349

YPC.6349

I think lots of us don’t actually understand what happened with our server that put is in the current position, so let me briefly (hopefully briefly at least) explain as to what happened to our server.

First, as everyone seems to be aware of, we were occupied by Ascension Alliance [AA] near the beginning of the game’s launch and they pushed us near the top of the WvW bracket. Then, Ascension Alliance left due to queue times to another server. Therefore, this destroyed our organization and left us in the top bracket with nothing. So, we had to suffer, just like the servers right now, and watch ourselves get pummeled into the ground by massive score differences for many of the 24h matches because we literally had no numbers and no organization.

Near the end of the 24h matches, we have a new alliance from what I understand by the name of [HOPE] made of many organized WvW central guilds because we don’t like following the zerg and want to get our server organized and back into the game.

What we didn’t expect was Angry Army [AA] from Henge of Denravi server to storm in and increase our zerg numbers by huge amounts and put us into a different population bracket. This happened during the first day of the 1 week long matches. This also caused our WvW matches now to skew so they are no longer balanced by population and now we have to work our way back up to the bracket that we belong in.

So, you guys have fallen victim to two positive (some may argue this) events for NS at the same time, and that’s very unfortunate, but please understand that we cannot control guilds of 500+ transferring to our server because of queue times.

Bottom line, we suffered though some tough matches, and you guys will have to do the same. It’s just a very unfortunate situation for all of us bottom bracket servers at the moment.

I am sorry that I miss the Angry Army part. That make some sense now. Before that what we think about NSP is, well, not some nice words you want to hear again and again. As of HOPE, winning in bottom two tier with such WvW pop and some off-hour crew won’t prove you anything. Anyway, Good luck and hope we won’t see you guy again.

BTW, one thing I don’t understand is why you guy still stay on NSP. It is tainted with so many bad names (coat-tail leftover, cavalier :P). And there are so many alternative world to start over. Is there any particular reason you stay?

Why all the complaints against Northern Shiverpeaks!?

in WvW

YPC.6349

It’s not about the money and it is not about the population either.

We fought Anvil rock and lost earlier when Ascendence left our server and we had not begun organizing our own Alliance. We had no organization and lost because of it.

Today, we still have no ques or very short ques. Our populations are similar and the gold we use to upgrade often comes out of singular people and guilds pockets. I know our upgraded in Os spent over 10 gold of his own money upgrading this week alone. The rest is gotten by shouting and from our allied guilds, but often, it is singular entities giving the gold. We aren;t any “Richer” than you, certain people just care more about defense.

As for populations, all servers cap at the same number and sometimes our maps aren’t even full. Northern Shiverpeaks is actually one of the 3 medium Population servers.

We recently have stepped up our game after falling to the 3rd to last spot by organizing and taking charge with allied guilds.

Ever Since Ascendence came, pushed out many pvp guilds with long que times (4-6 hours sometimes) and left, we have gone through some steep inclines. Soon enought he servers will balance out based on the skill and organization of the players. (Not their money or their populations.)

The server queue published by Mike shows NSP should be at least the 10th to 15th in term of WvW populated. It should be easily at 4th to 5th tier because the population difference in 6th and 7th tier are huge. It is not only “no queue” in these world, it is even empty. And if you guy are skilled, NSP should even be fighting on 3rd tier. But instead NSP go straight from Henge to Kaineng. So far no other server did worse than that.

Some of you guys seem to have a fancy PC or never run a 30+ group. When you run a group that has more than 30 people, your PC would not render all people in your group, including the leader of the group. So it is very often the group get split up or go to the wrong way because someone decide to chase the enemy, gather mat or get some poi/vista etc, even if all members are in VOIP. The little commander blue icon in the map would be very useful as banner to a group. And if your are not belong to that group, please do ignore it. We don’t intend to command you, we don’t need your respect, we just want you leave us alone.

BTW, 100g is rather cheap for a 100+ guild which its member are somehow serious about the guild.

I agree the idea is in right direction. WvWvW works only when all sides have nearly equal amount of players playing. But there are some problems with your idea.

First, free instant transfer has to be stopped to make it works(and in fact make all other balancing work). And there are still some issues on that.

Second, how do you deal with people that can stay playing when everybody in other server go to sleep and the pop limit decrease? Should you cold-kick them out of WvWvW? Who get kicked and who can stay? It is not funny when you spent like 50s on siege weapons or defence, get kicked and have no return on your investment becasue those guys on other servers are going to sleep.

Queue times or WvW

Posted by: YPC.6349

YPC.6349

Well, the problem is on player side. In guild leadership prospective, losing wvw or being at a losing server means losing authority, which could lead to losing people and risk your guild. Meanwhile having a long queue or not able to play wvw at all just means your guildmates are having less fun, which is no big deal. No sane guild leader would risk their guild for shorter queue time. And not to mention you do need some manage skill to move your whole guild to somewhere most of your guildmates happy with and the influence start-over.

No Snowball mechanics/slippery slope prevention?

in WvW

Posted by: YPC.6349

YPC.6349

We already have an anti-snowball mechanic. It is WvWvW. So if one server is winning, it will be forced to fight both 2 servers. It works if all 3 servers fill up the cap. But again it has been said in here 100 times, the only snowball effect is that most of the players/guilds like waiting in 4 hours queue in a winning server and doing supply camp ping-pong rather than actually fighting and earning rewards in low-pop server. You can never balance a game if all players only care to win and it is almost free to switch side.
