Wintersday Event, boggled

I’m going to number the points the OP was making, as I understand it.

Quote: Tixx arrives in Lion’s Arch in his massive airship toy workshop.

Like, I don’t even know how to accept this really, Guild Wars Style. I am just lost and confused why it exist and how does it work with the lore? *(1)

I understand its an Asura and all but really… a Golem airship? Would had accepted giant floating cube or a regular airship but a golem?

Just being a nerd but… magic can only go so far and so does fuel. On top of that, wouldn’t having something that big would give leeway to the dragons into shooting it down, since the energy required to keep that thing a float and running would match that of a small nuclear bomb. (2)

Also… why is an Asuran making Toys? Usually Asuras are all witty and snotty about being smart and a superior race, yet its making toys? Which lore wise, would be toys suited for a complex Asura child to play with. No other race would understand the toys Tixx would make.

/Opens Presents /receive “Mathematical entries of dimensional portions calculator”. (3)

A human would had been better for the situation, if anything go Norn if that desperate. Really getting tired of Asura this and Asura that content updates. The race isn’t all that interesting. (4)

Right then, let’s address these points shall we?

(1) An Asuran (Tixx), has apparently decided he likes Wintersday and thus decided to create toys for the various races of Tyria. Naturally he decides he needs a workshop to create these toys in, and what better way then a giant floating airship he can pilot to the various cities to deliver the toys.

HOW is this not something any Asura would do? Have you SEEN their homecity? It’s a giant series of cubes. That float. The entire city floats. On AIR.

(2) Giant golem is a lot more interesting then a giant floating cube, also if you consider how much energy it must take to keep Rata Sum floating year round nonstop, considering we don’t even know how big this Golemzeppelin is yet, it’s fully believable. With regards to the dragons shooting it down, yes, they totally have nothing better to do then attack a random airship that’s been who knows where.

(3) Seriously? You clearly haven’t played GW1. Humans 250 years ago were using golem beacons etc. to launch-summon golem support. (G.O.L.E.M. mission in Eye of the North). Asuran’s can totally design little toys humans etc could understand, and so what if they’re incredibly advanced, that just makes it more fun when they explode.

(4) Clearly, it seems to me you simply have something against the Asuran race. They’re awesome, and I wholeheartedly approve of this update. Honestly, what would you prefer, a giant norn or human in a big red suit riding around in a boring old sleigh or something?

Disclaimer: If the preceeding post annoyed, insulted, and/or irritated anyone, well, tough. ANet has decreed we shall have a Golemzeppelin to admire, AND A GOLEMZEPPELIN WE SHALL HAVE.

Why do most of you prefer to play alone?

Usually I’m partied up with my guildie, and we just run around that way. There’s not really any actual need to party with random people since anything you would normally need to be partied to do is so easy.

Think about it, in other mmo’s you need to be partied so the healer can heal you, the tanks can pull aggro, etc, etc. This game the process is much more streamlined. I don’t need to be partied with you to heal you, or help you kill that mob.

My advice is instead of trying to party up with random people, just get in the habit of striking up a conversation in /map chat. More often then not people will ask for help, or rush to come help you if you ask.
If what you’re wanting is a group of friends to run around with, my advice is to ask if anyone in map chat wants to group to clear the zone/etc.

Were Exotics really not worth it?

I got exotic armor to be done with it, because I hate grinding of any kind. Even having to gruel through dungeons for so long to finish a second set was far more than I had wanted. I just wanted to get my characters to 80, outfit them with full exotics so I could concentrate on doing other things. Unfortunately to get to 80 you basically have to do everything in the game anyway. It’s just a bad system for me. I don’t like it at all.

I don’t know where you were leveling, but I was at less then 50% world completion when I hit 80, and hadn’t even set foot in the Grove or Rata Sum, and had only passed through Black Citadel briefly.

AFAIK they never ninja changed when the event starts, it was always the 16th that the event itself started. Free trials were always supposed to start today, most likely so that the people trying the game can get used to it before playing in the events tommorow.

Were Exotics really not worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ykfox.3825

Unless they make infusions required for all dungeons, exotics aren’t ‘worthless’, after all, so far the only dungeon you might need Ascended gear for is the new Fractals one.

Meanwhile all the other dungeons and content can still be done in Exotics, which will likely remain a lot easier to get. So until they release more dungeons/content that REQUIRE being Infused to really complete, Ascended armor is an upgrade, but not a necessity.

You do have the option of asking if there’s anyone who can come revive you in /map chat. More often than not I’ve found someone will usually come help, unless you happen to have a champion mob dancing on your corpse.

I don’t see any point changing guilds daily.
Except you are a lone wolf and you just want the bonuses or something.

To my eyes guilds are a group of people that you stick together.Otherwise gt_o.Ryit?

If only every guild had more members like you, the situation wouldn’t be nearly as dire. Thank you for your input, Quickhit.

I have to say, it sounds to me like the problem you have isn’t the multiple guild system, it’s that the people in your guild are the kind you don’t want in your guild.

I like how people say it’s not a big deal. It IS a big deal for some people. Some people like the ability to enjoy the event and all that comes with it. Instead people are feeling a bit cheated.

Yes we will all get something at the end of the event. That’s awesome for sure. But seriously take a look at what this looks like to people who really wanted to enjoy having something they can show off ALL year round if they wanted to. “They can say hey look I was here for the first Halloween event!”

Instead it looks like a money grab. Arenanet knew that people were gonna want the skins they also knew that people weren’t gonna have the keys and were going to go buy them. Its an event up the kitten drop rate for kittens sake. It comes once a year…. it doesn’t have to be A HUGE increase but 1 out of every 20 or so chests is not to much to ask. Instead it’s a gamble.

I was rather under the impression that’s what the free devil horn hat was for, seeing as the weapons will likely be back next year. And the year after. And so on.
Whereas like in GW1, the hat will probably be different each year.

I'll never be able to get the new skins. It is not fair.

Nobody is forcing you to buy lottery tickets every day are they? So why do you feel like you have to buy keys in order to get what you want? You could, you know, spend some time crafting, farming or grinding get the exact same results. It just takes longer, but there is a guaranteed chance that you will eventually get what you want.

/facepalm

1. It’s not lottery, it’s a mmo game (1)
2. FACTS : thousands of $$$$ have been wasted for N O T H I N G, i agree that the “super-rare” skin should be rare, and a chance is a chance, but so much money for not even a freaking candy or something related to halloween ? Seriously what kind of game is this. (2)
3. Why would arenanet kitten off their best paying customers and lose all credibility to them ? What kind of business move is that rofl…

Every end game super rare things are based on freaking gambling in gw2(mystic forge, Buy2Win chests), again what kind of game is this.

—>And no, it’s not that optional : the entire game is based on skins.<— (3)

(1) Yes, it is an mmo, and amazingly, it’s still an mmo even if you don’t get the silly rare skins for your weapons.

(2) Technically, people are likely getting tonics, boosters, black lion salvage kits/axes/mining picks/etc, maybe even a few are getting the skins. They aren’t spending money for NOTHING. They just aren’t getting what they want. There is a difference. Also, we’ve already agreed it’s an mmo, to further clarify, it’s an mmoRPG. :P

(3) This is the stupidest thing I have EVER seen. Ever. Honestly, the only reason to get the skins is because you /want/ them. You don’t need them, they do nothing for you statswise.

They are an OPTIONAL appearance modifier. Not necessary in any way to play the game.

Why do they play?

Speaking about myself, but sometimes I don’t talk to others in the local /say chat because I’m in guild chat, or sometimes party chat, and forget to change to /say.

That said, the game seemed a lot more friendly back during 3 day headstart and immediately afterward.

Still, sometimes all /map chat needs is a little nudge to get people talking, the zones really are more fun when you can chat to others, or even just lurk about and read what they’re saying.

You can still sPvP if you want, you’ll be powered to level 80 and you don’t need to do any PvE.

since when can u lvl doing struc pvp?

You don’t level by doing sPvP, but you are auto-leveled up to 80, given level 80 exotic level gear, and basically allowed to customize everything except appearance, (You earn more weapon/armor skins by unlocking them through rewards/mystic forge pvp mode.)

Essentially, to simplify, they make you level 80 while you do sPvP, and give you level 80 equivalent exotic gear which you can customize for free. And then when you leave sPvP you go back to the way your character was in PvE.

As for the crafting bit and the DR hitting you, I suggest not farming specifically for any given item, just play around in an area, find a friend and just do activities, you’ll get the items you want much more easily when you’re not focused on getting them.

Also, they recently changed the DR’s so they don’t hit as hard anymore, I believe.

How have we possibly not taken over the world by now?

in Charr

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

Technically, the Asura would likely aid the Humans, since the humans helped defeat the Great Destroyer in GW1. <—- GW1 Spoiler

Moreover, we don’t know how recent the invention of the tanks are, so it’s entirely possible the Charr were already in the midst of the peace treaty by the time the tanks were in production. Also, I imagine a tank would be relatively easy to ambush in, and probably quite hard to replace when destroyed.

As for the norn being friendly with the Charr, they’re also friendly with the Humans.

The Halloween event and West Coast Players

If the event timing is anything like how it was in GW1, then the event will end at midnight, (Actually, usually 12:01 AM on the 1st of November would be more likely.), on the 31st for PST.

Mind that this is based on my experience with similar events in GW1. Since ANet itself is West Coast to the best of my knowledge.

@Rick: That incredible ‘lonely’ feeling you get? You can solve it by starting a conversation in map chat. You’d be surprised how easy it can be to strike one up sometimes. A lot of people seem to be shy or don’t want to be the one to STARt the conversation, so chat stays empty.

Speak up, unless you’re playing in off hours, people will eventually respond I’ve found.

Ykfox.3825

The biggest problem with the game atm other then the obvious skill point glitches etc, at least in my opinion, is that ANet hasn’t enabled the events that will give the game more depth.

Bar brawls, the shooting range, Moa racing, etc. Once ANet enables more of the events like those the game will draw a lot more people in.

As it is, it seems like they’re fixing what’s up and available before turning on more features. Something which I think is a very good idea.

As for the game suffering from seemingly low populations, you have to consider that even if a server is ‘Full’ that population can be spread throughout every single zone thanks to downscaling. So not all the level 80’s HAVE to be in the level 80 zones.

Mini Games?

in Players Helping Players

Ykfox.3825

I’ve noticed a number of potential mini games so far, although obviously other the Keg Brawl they all seem inactive atm.

There’s the Polymock Arena in Rata Sum, there’s a Moa Race course and what seems to be a miniature fighting arena in Lion’s Arch, Divinity’s Reach is supposed to have Bar Brawls (Judging by the NPC’s chatting and a few Norn npc’s you can find in the bars) as well as the Shooting range and a Carnival.

As for the Grove and Black Citadel, well, I haven’t explored them much, but I assume they must have some mini games too. Eventually.

Honestly, I’d imagine it’s frowned on, at the least. Whether it’s bannable or not I don’t know.

But is that honestly the way you want to play the game? By dropping turrets, going afk and coming back just to pick up loot you didn’t really earn? Where’s the fun in that?

What's the best underwater weapons for Gaurdians?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

Truthfully I find the Spear is better for dps, but the Trident is loads better for survivability, because the #1 skill for Trident on Guardians not only bounces to hit multiple enemies, it will also heal allies, or yourself, if it bounces to you.

Combine that with the ‘Hold the Line’ and ‘Save Yourselves!’ shouts, and Signet of Resolve for decent healing and you get to be pretty tough to take down underwater, add in Sanctuary for the times when you really need a bit of breathing room and you’re near unkillable.

@Sunspear General: I’m not aware of a Guardian spear skill that does any sort of knockback. The #5 skill actually pulls them in close to you, the #4 skill pushes your character back away from them, and #3 blinds enemies around you, but nothing knocks enemies back.

Guilds bonuses need to go or be redesigned

Ykfox.3825

Honestly, I fail to see the problem. Larger guilds get stuff a bit easier yes, but you lose the friendly atmosphere that a lot of small guilds have. Being in a small guild just means it will take longer to earn some of those Guild upgrades etc.

I’m in a 2 person guild with my father, and we’re the only two in it, and we can still earn a couple hundred influence per day, just by fooling around and playing for a few hours. It goes up much quicker when we go into WvW and join the local horde.

Funny, I played GW1 for over 7 years, and I hardly spent any time at all doing PvP. Guess no one informed me GW1 was a PvP focused game. =/

Here’s a radical thought… what if… Guild Wars 2… managed to focus on… both? Like, what if, they had PvP worth playing… AND PvE worth playing…?

Amazing, right?

Max Level 20 vs Max Level 80: which you enjoy most?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

Truthfully, I like Guild Wars 2’s leveling system better. Even at level 80 you can go back and play through the lower level zones. Is it easier then if you were ‘appropriate level’ for those zones?

Yes, even downleveled you tend to outlevel most things you’ll fight, but at least it’s not like other MMO’s where you can almost literally walk through a low level zone and stuff dies.

Hitting level 20 in GW1 was fun, in Prophecies, because you were actually playing through most of the campaign as you did it.
Once Factions and Nightfall came out though, suddenly you were basically hitting level 20 on Tutorial Islands, and then given the rest of the campaign.

TL;DR, ultimately there’s not much difference imo in what level you end up at, it’s the journey to get there, and what you do afterwards that matters.
