My advice, as always, is to join TTS. It’s a massive group of guilds dedicated to killing bosses like Tequatl, Triple Trouble, etc. I’ve rarely seen Teq NOT die when I’m on a TTS map tbh, it’s kind of turned into that mythical thing… Tequatl killing the zerg, not the other way around.

Why no capes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

A relatively simple solution would be to add capes… that are belted at the characters waist, and flow free below the waist. Theoretically solves the problem for Charr, and other races.

That doesn’t though, because then we still run into tail clipping.

Tails already clip with everything, but at least belting a cape/cloak at the waist would solve the Charr’s bend over and run on all fours issue, at least partially.

Simplest solution for tail clipping with a cape would be to have the lower part of the cape split up the middle, so it more or less falls to either side of the tail.

First Person Camera

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

So, I know in another thread I read, an ANet dev mentioned the reason First Person camera options aren’t in game is something to do with how they’d have to compensate for race height, skill animations, etc.

I can understand why that would make a first person camera a potentially very time consuming feature, and possibly not really feasible. Really, I get it.

But I still want one. You’ve designed this wonderful beautiful world, and the skybox is one of the best parts, but we so rarely can have our camera tilted to see it. And even without the skybox there are plenty of other places where there’s almost nothing I’d like more then to just take screenshots that don’t have my character in the shot.

So I got to thinking, First Person camera isn’t really viable for general gameplay… but could ANet make a ‘Photographer’ mode? Essentially, all it would really have to do is turn your camera to First Person, and make your character more or less non-existent.

Picture this, a large scale guild doing, say, Tequatl. Awesome. Let’s say they want to designate one person to act as a ‘Photographer’ to get screenshots of the action. So this person finds a good vantage point where they’d be able to take Screenshots of the entire battle, and then they activate Photographer mode.

In photographer mode, their camera is swapped to First Person, their character is made invisible/invincible, and receives no reward for any event taking place around him/her. This means that they can take pictures, their character is ‘safe’ from harm, and they can’t just turn the mode on to survive an attack, turn it off, and still get loot from the event.

Basically, they get nice First Person screenshots… but they knowingly CHOOSE to sacrifice any chance at loot or credit for that event.

Naturally you probably wouldn’t want to allow it in WvW/PvP, but still, I think this idea could probably be managed somehow or other to allow us to take screenshots in PvE.

Least squishy class (between warr and guard)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

Ultimately it comes down to player skill with the class between the two. I’ve seen Guardians that are basically the equivalent to Immortal. Likewise I’ve seen some very hard to kill Warrior’s.

I’m biased towards Guardian, having played one since 3 day head-start. As a guardian I rarely ever die, and if I do go down I rarely have trouble getting back up. (Unless it’s a champion mob beating on me and I’m all by my lonesome.)

That said, I’ve seen plenty of Warrior’s get kitteny and rush in to a situation where they get absolutely melted.

Whoever told you it’s hard lied. Just pick one map at a time and work at completing it, the hardest bits are the WvW maps because you pretty much have to wait for your server to rotate through all 3 colors to get all the PoI’s and such.

If you’re having a hard time completing something on a map, my advice is ask for help in map chat, with the Megaserver there’ll usually be at least one or two good-sports who will come help you out.

Shield, Greatsword, Longbow.

Edit: And hammer. Only downside about longbow is when you wield it. It’s wielded the wrong way around – I don’t know why but Anet seem to do it with all the longbows (and shortbows I think?) and no one has fixed it yet.

None if which I’m using my golden ticket on because you can’t dye the silver bits :-(

Unless I’m greatly mistaken I’m pretty sure bows aren’t glitched like that except when you’re previewing them. It’s because normally you hold the bow in your characters LEFT hand, and draw the string with the right hand.

While previewing the bow is held in the RIGHT hand but it’s still positioned as if it’s being held by the left hand.

I could be wrong and some bows are still held incorrectly, but I’m pretty sure the glitch only exists when previewing.

Which arena you fight her in impacts the fight as well, specifically it impacts where in the arena the circles of light appear. I find the northernmost arena’s are best for Liadri.

All that said, she is comparatively EASY this year compared to last year.

Guild Halls were also advertised, but again, they’re not housing technically.

I kind of like the idea of some customizable area akin to housing, but I’d prefer if they just added to and improved the home instance. Although honestly I’d really just prefer they added bar brawls….

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ykfox.3825

Honestly, the complete randomness of where some of these traits are located is mind boggling. Seriously ANet? An adept trait that requires 100% map completion of Fireheart Rise?!

I like the concept, honest I do. Running around to unlock new traits gives me something else to do rather then just complete zones/etc. I LOVE having more goals to complete. But at least make it so that the Adept traits are located in level 1-59 zones or something.

I now honestly regret deleting my 3 day head-start Elementalist who I never actually got around to doing much on to make a new Elementalist to enjoy the new trait system.

The 5 best and worst things about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

Pros:
1)Graphics/Visuals – This game has a stunning world to explore.

2)Combat – Feels nice and fluid, and more realistic than mmo’s like WoW. I would not stand there and let the giant dragon chew on me just so others can hurl spells at it. I’d be dodge-rollin like crazy.

3)Casual – No massive grinds except for purely optional weapon/armor skins and titles.

4)Friendly atmosphere – Very few other games will have people just randomly help each other out, without one person QQ’ing about killstealing or the like.

5)No monthly fee – This is a big one, if you start to get burned out on the game for whatever reason you can take a break and come back whenever you want.

Cons:
1)Living Story – It was great, horrible villains, interesting new heroes, etc. The con is that they released it every 2 weeks, so you almost felt compelled to participate to get the rewards that were unlockable only by that content. This was a BAD thing since it left a lot of people who have limited time to play the game having to choose between the LS rewards and doing something else.

2)No new areas to explore really. We got Southsun, and that was exciting… until it turned out there’s no real reason to go there. Now we at least have the Karka Queen, but besides that basically nothing worth going there for. C’mon ANet, add some new zones with new hearts/etc.

3)Activities – I remember all the hype about bar brawls, polymock, some sort of Traveling circus, the shooting gallery…. c’mon ANet, these have been known since before BWE1 for some of them. Get some released at least.

4)Lack of variety in skills – Some classes have a lot of different skills, some have less. Some only have a few specific skills that are really viable. (Looking at you Guardian Spirit Weapons) Honestly I’d like to see ANet release if not more weapons for more classes, then at least release some new traits/skills that can radically change the way a class plays. How about a trait that removes the Ranger’s pet and let’s them play as a pure Archer type class like was possible in GW1?

5)But honestly the thing I dislike most about this game lately is the Champion Trains. I get that some people like them, but let’s be honest. Almost every map now has some sort of Champion Train going on, and if you kill a champion or the like without the zerg you can get abuse hurled at you.

This game has so much potential, and it’s easily one of my favorite games out at the moment. But the fact that so many people seem to only care about killing the champions for loot… Is that really what you want this game to be ANet? Nothing but follow the Commander?

And the parties afterwards were always fun too, Conga lines that stretched almost all the way around LA were hilarious…

It’d make it so ranger pets are even worse, at least when you first get them. I’d rather see ANet make it so that having a pet-companion actually means something. Make us work to tame that pet. Make it so we spend enough time taming it that we form an emotional attachment to the little bugger.

You’re right, it shouldn’t affect me, but it does, and there’s nothing that will cause me to be unaffected by it. Most of the time I know the player just means ‘bad’, ‘stupid’ or ‘wrong’, and so I try not to take offense to it, but when it comes to a point where it has now, where it’s normal to say these things, that’s when it becomes a problem. Because many lives have been lost to comments just like those in the screenshot – so it does affect me.

It’s like if everyone went round saying ’that’s so hetty’ or ‘lol don’t be a breeder’.

Words may have changed, but it doesn’t make it right, normal OR ok.

Well I am terribly sorry, because this will sound harsh, but you will have to live with it. You saying “this word personally offends me” to me sounds the same as “the colour blue worn by boys personally offends me because it used to be reserved solely for girls”, it’s a personal thing and in no way the fault of community. Are there things that personally offend me? Yes. To those close to me I tell them not to say or do certain things and they know. To the rest of society, though, why should they care? They don’t mean to offend, they’re not doing anything that is considered offensive, therefore I have no right to complain. Because everyone finds something offensive and if we went around being afraid to offend each other we would be extremely afraid to ever talk or gesture in any way shape or form.

These sorts of comments have caused many suicides though. You’re suggesting here that I should keep my opinions and comments to myself, not confront those in game being abusive/homophobic and/or racist, and just ‘live with it’ and stay silent? I’m sorry but I WILL have to agree to disagree with you there.

To point out… you are not in fact, confronting those IN-game about being abusive/homophobic/racists. You OP is literally asking for a way to avoid hearing it, rather then confronting it.

Minigames wise? I’d like to see the Bar Brawl, Polymock, the shooting gallery, Maybe some sort of Dolyak race where players ride Dolyak’s, and other players can bet on the winner or something.

Content wise? New maps. Please, for the love of god, some new maps. Charr Homelands or North of Divinity’s Reach.

Also, wasn’t http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ameranth supposed to be the new version of Nick the Traveler? Or at least move around to different locations? I was looking forward to tracking her down every time she moved, but she’s still…. there.

And I refuse to go to that city. I hates it precious, hates it.

Beyond that, I’d definitely like to see them expand the personal storyline choices we’ve made. Joining the order we joined was supposed to be a Big Deal. Saving the people we saved should have been a Big Deal.

I wish they’d make it so there’s some minor story-missions that expand on work we could be doing for our Order, or our home cities. (Fighting dragon minions as the Vigil? Treasure hunting as the Priory? Spying for the Order? Fighting Centaur for the Seraph?)

Holy Trinity and Compromise

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ykfox.3825

I’m going to be honest, I liked playing Tank/Healer in other MMO’s, or at least having it as an option. That said, I don’t want the trinity in this game.

This game has one of the better combat systems I’ve played in any MMO. Let’s be honest, mobs reacting to a big heavily armored warrior taunting them and just magically ignoring that guy who’s healing everyone isn’t realistic.

Sure, some mobs would be stupid like that, but a lot of the tougher enemies in games should be at least smart enough to think beyond a blood lust/battle-rage. And this is where GW2 shines, rather than tank the enemy GW2 combat should be all about CONTROLLING the enemies movement.

Just my opinion, but I think ANet needs to focus on making the game fun again. Less focus on the dps-race etc. and more focus on “Holy **** this boss is big, he’s scary, and he’s hard to kill. What is there in this room/area that we can use to help get an advantage?”

Mechanics ANet, you need to let us use them, and use them effectively. If you want us to kill some giant golem gone crazy in a mining tunnel, and there’s some big bombs that can only be set off manually, suddenly hard to kill characters have a role again without being tanks.

I Like the Original Flamekissed Armor

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

You realize if you want a refund for the armor, ANet would probably send you a number of Transmute Splitters (Giving you the armor, and the gem skin), you would then be expected to delete the Gem skin at which point they’d give you the gems back…. Right?

So, you request refund, they send you splitters, you use splitters to get the Flamekissed skin off your armor, you delete the Flamekissed skin while keeping your armor, and then they send you the gems. Refund complete, no use for Transmute Crystals.

Admittedly, I’m only fairly sure that’s what they’d do, and not absolutely certain, but either way, there should be almost no need for you to use your own Transmute Crystals.

Edit: I agree, the armor looks awesome. I do however believe Human T3 should stay Human exclusive. Maybe ANet will end up releasing a Mystic Forge recipe or something that let’s people add Flames to their T3, in which case this could make a comeback, for Humans at least.
