The funny thing is healing/tanking were always supposed to be at least semi-viable in GW2. The zerker meta got way out of hand.

I for one prefer to have more healing and tankiness in groups, especially if it means less glass cannon builds become the meta.

Try Generosity Sigils when you see the enemy team is loaded on Guards (it can be worth it for the screams – though i do facepalm when it sends vuln…).

And now I really wish enemy players characters screamed when set on fire in PvP/WvW….

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Actually, it IS the Luminescent set, with Celestial white dye. You can tell by looking at where the white dye is tinted slightly blue in the darker areas. Also, the flower is glowing blue.

Edit: If I had to guess at exact colors, Celestial for the White, with Mullberry? as the pink-purple areas, with possibly Silver for the trim/metal.

Well, you could just make a new account for free character slots… but there’s all the limitations of F2P accounts…. then there’s the fact you wouldn’t have any dyes, skins, etc unlocked…

But sure, go for it! After all, no one cares about dyes or armor/weapon skins in this game.

I think I went up a couple fps. Only odd thing I’ve noticed is a weird scratch noise that happens when I launch the game.

You seem to be able to fix that scratch noise by running the game in compatibility mode for Windows 7/8.

I’ve been getting a burst of static from my speakers/headphones when I first launch GW2, as far as I can tell all my driver’s are up to date/etc, anyone have an idea what’s causing it/how to fix it?

It does it on other games as well apparently. Don’t know the cause, though.

For the record, the fix for this static noise seems to be to run it in windows 7/8 compatibility mode.

Not sure if it works for other games, but for GW2 just right click on the icon, go to Properties —> then the Compatibility tab up top —> change it to windows 7/8 mode, and it should get rid of the static.

Odd Burst of Static when Launching

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Ykfox.3825

So I “upgraded” to Windows 10 yesterday, and I noticed that anytime I launch Guild Wars 2 I get a very loud obnoxious burst of static from my speakers (Or, if they’re plugged in, the headphones.)

I don’t get the static burst when playing other games as far as I can tell, or when opening other programs.

And there seems to be 4 ‘options’ in the sound tab in terms of which speaker’s it’s using. 2 have no effect, one is default, and one is the speakers themselves.

Anytime I try to switch between the Default and any of the other options I get the burst of static.

Anyone have any ideas on what’s causing it?

You know, the irony is that it is all the zerker fanboys/girls crying out in rage over this.

Which is hilarious, because this is how condition damage focused people felt before this update.

Yes, burning is a bit excessive at the moment, and it needs tweaking, but if they nerf it as much as these people want it nerfed it’s going to be useless again, and guardians will go back to only being able to run Zerker.

Guardians deserve to run condition builds too, kitten it.

I’d honestly like to see some sort of stun or knockback added to shield 4 skill, instead of the pitiful damage and low duration protection.

I mean… that wave that shoots forwards when you use the #4 skill looks like something they’d use as an animation for when they want to stagger the enemies hit by it.

Being able to stun/knockback would definitely make the shield a little more useful.

(#5 knockback doesn’t count, since that skill should be more about block projectiles imo)

Weird Chat Bug?

Ykfox.3825

So, earlier after swapping to my team’s Borderland map in WvW from EotM I had something weird occur in the chat box in-game.

I went to type in map chat by using ‘/m’ in the chat box, and instead of getting the ‘/’ symbol I was getting an ‘e’ with an accent over it.

I’ve never had it happen before, and I’d been using ‘/’ just fine in EotM to swap chats.

Anyone know what caused it, or how to keep it from happening again?

Trolled by the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ykfox.3825

Just wondering what some of your best(worst?) moments of being trolled by the game are.

Here’s one that occurred for me just last night.

So, after deciding I like the look of the Ascended Calcite sword/shield for my Guardian, I decided to make the sword/shield using Theodosus’ stats (Cleric). Granted, Cleric stats aren’t that good, but at least there’s some power on the weapons.

Now for the part where the game trolled me. Last night, after zerging around in Edge of the Mists to get the Keep Capturer daily (Which we ultimately failed to get thanks to a terribad commander…)
I dropped back out of EotM to the Grove to clear inventory and call it a night… and I rather randomly got an Ebonmane (Apothecary) ascended weapon chest as a drop.

TL;DR: The game waiting until after I’d made the Ascended sword/shield to drop a weapon chest that would have given me the skin I wanted for free.

Sidenote: Does anyone know of any use for Apothecary stats… at all? Because they really seem to suck.

How to show new players that I'm a veteran?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

Well, if you’re a true veteran and horder, you should have the Celebration Hat. Use that as the skin for your helmet.

Be prepared for people to ask where you got it.

Failing that, the Emissary of the Mad King title is a good option.

Although, I wouldn’t really call you a veteran if you haven’t hit level 80. Since, y’know. that means you obviously haven’t done much of anything in the game.

This game needs harder Content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

Have you considered setting conditions to make it harder on yourself?

As a few examples… level a character from 1-80, wearing nothing but Blues/Greens without dying once. If you die you delete the character and start over.

Do a dungeon wearing as little armor as possible, while using only Green rarity weapons.

Etc. There’s plenty of challenges available in this game, it’s just that a lot of people only seem to think linearly.

I mean, I understand wanting harder content, but they can’t make it impossible for casuals to do, so finding ways to make it harder for yourself is the important part of this game.

Human vs Norn armies: who would win?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

Since the humans have been holding the Charr at bay at Ebonhawke, and the Seraph has spent god knows how long fighting the Centaurs, I’d place all my money on the humans winning.

They have an actual organized army (technically two, given that the Ebon Vanguard counts as it’s own force), with plenty of battle experience.

And the Norn just don’t even do armies. The closest the Norn have is probably the Wolfborn, which seem more like a police force for Hoelbrak than an army.

WHY?!? anyone want to play guild wars 1

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ykfox.3825

Ykfox.3825

Guild Wars 1 is a party based game, you don’t necessarily need/ other players, but you should at the very least have heroes or henchmen in your party at all times.

When you’re in a city or outpost in Guild Wars 1, look for Henchmen and add them to the party. If you’ve got Nightfall/Eye of the North, you also have access to heroes, which are even better.

It’s not like Guild Wars 2 where you can go out and solo everything because in Guild Wars 2 every class is meant to be able to perform most any role.

I confess, I’m a bit confused. My elementalist happens to have the full Luminescent set, so I logged on her to see what you were talking about, and it certainly looks as though she’s got some sort of underwear/etc. on.

Now granted, I don’t have a broom so I can’t replicate it exactly, but are you sure it’s not just a matter of one of the dye channels for the armor managing to get fairly close to your ton’s skin color?

The Sash dye channel around the waist seemed to control the color from what I could tell, and since the Sash on your armor looks to be a white/near white color, it could just be that.

Edit: Attached a picture for proof.

Edit 2: Yup, definitely just the color of your armor at fault, proof is in the underwater screenshot.

I hit 10k AP before I ever set foot in a dungeon… I just never felt compelled to do a dungeon until just recently. There was always other things I’d rather do.

Granted, I’m not exactly a noob, but I had no idea what the bosses did and just winged it. (Admittedly, I was doing it solo for the first half of the dungeon before a guildie joined me, but still.)

My guildie being my father, who at the time had about 9.7k AP, and would be classified as a ‘noob’ by a fair amount of players just because GW2 is a game to enjoy for him, and not something to devote his life to.
