/sit or /cheer usually makes it obvious you’re just spectating.
Also, there’s nothing stopping you from spectating while lying dead on the ground.
The trouble with this idea is that sometimes the devs themselves don’t really know what path future updates will take. Take the Festival tokens for example. Last year we had Fortune Scraps, which served the exact same purpose, but have no more use this year. But next year, when the Bazaar returns yet again, will it still be called a Festival? Wouldn’t LA have finished rebuilding by then? Does that mean Tokens get discarded and Fortune Scraps come back? Or will the devs instead tie it into whatever LS arc is currently ongoing at the time (and possibly use a completely different token)?
I don’t suppose we can get a direct answer about whether the Chaos of Lyssa drop rate is working as intended, John?
Or whether it will be adjusted in a coming patch? I’ve made my stance on the matter clear in previous posts, but if CoL is intended to be this rare, then so be it; I’ll adjust my expectations appropriately. It would just be nice to put an end to the speculation and uncertainty one way or another.
I could be misinterpreting but isn’t the next patch the one that will removing all this content?
There was originally going to be a patch tomorrow that would update the Battle Historian in WvW to give out rewards for the Spring Tournament tickets. (That’s since been pushed back until they sort out the issues with some players not receiving their tickets.) They might still release whatever else was slated to be in tomorrow’s patch, which could possibly be an adjustment to the CoL drop rate IF internally they’ve decided this is something they should look at.
JS has a firm track record of not giving away anything in his forum posts (his blog posts on the GW2 website are another matter) that could affect the market (for good or ill), so it could still go either way.
@Tamasan: Good post on probability of drops.
I also want to add that, in the vast majority of cases, a spirited run of bad luck isn’t the end of the road, because you can usually just buy the item you want from someone who was lucky enough to get it. This isn’t really the case with Chaos of Lyssa, since the saleable item is a recipe; you still have to shell out a hefty investment for the final look. Furthermore, there is no way for crafters to leverage their purchase by selling their Lyssa backpieces to interested buyers.
It all just adds up to feel like the CoL is abnormally hard to get, locked behind both a high RNG/wealth gate AND an additional wealth gate to craft it.

A bit disappointing that I’ll have to wait longer for my Mistforged Torch, but eh, plenty of other stuff to do in-game in the meantime. It’ll get here when it gets here.
I should have known it was you behind it, Wanze!
You probably got some of my recipes too after I decided I could likely just reacquire any Celestial recipes when the Bazaar rolls back around in the event new races get released, so I decided to offload the few Celestial recipes I was still holding on my mule.
I have a soft spot for my Legionnaire’s Rifle (aka Boomstick).
My advice to other players is if you feel that another player is being rude/threatening to you and won’t leave you alone, block and report them. Let Support sort it out. Chances are you’ll never see that player again too, so don’t let anything they say get to you.
Oh, nice find!
I used to do it by putting the soulbound rune onto a white piece of equipment (stays account bound even though the description says “soulbound”), then putting it into the bank, picking it up on C2, and then salvaging it off.
Your method can save me a BLSK use depending on circumstances though!

WvW Spring Tourney reward vendor will be released.
Hoping that the Chaos of Lyssa recipe gets an alternate way of acquisition.
Hoping for bug fixes of various kinds.
It MAY come back for Dragon Bash this year (if LA bothers having the festival).
It’s different people complaining each time. Once each separate group is satisfied they go quiet, only for a new group to start complaining. So the forum seems like one non-stop chorus of complaints, when actually a lot of people may have been made happy with the changes.
“You heard Grast!”
“You heard Grast!”
“You-”
“You-”
“You heard Grast! Hold the line! Send the intruders to Grenth!”
Yeah, I use titles on my characters that suit them from an RP perspective.
Human Female Mesmer – “Chosen”. She’s a descendent of my GW1 Ascalonian Warrior, so that made sense to me.
Norn Female Ranger – “Wurm’s Bane”. She’s a Norn hunter. ’Nuff said.
Asura Male Elementalist – “Honors in Applied Jumping”. Seems fitting due to their academic-style society.
Charr Male Warrior – “The Blazing Light”. He used to have “Flameseeker”, and I honestly might go back to it, seeing as he does wield mostly flame-themed equipment.
Sylvari Female Necromancer – “The Sunbringer”. As a chipper, Dawn cycle Sylvari, it was the perfect title for her. XD
Oh, and my Guardian mule has “Volunteer”. XD
The only thing that really frustrates me about the Liadri fight is when you’re struggling with a 200+ ms ping, and you constantly run into bugs like the Visions exploding and killing you when you’re nowhere near them (game thinks you’re behind where your screen shows you to be), or dying to shadowfalls when your screen shows you’re outside them (same as before), or not letting you pick up orbs when you’re standing right over them (desynced due to ping). These are factors that make the fight much harder through no fault of your own, and is the only reason I would support potential nerfs to Liadri’s fight.
That said, I DID manage to overcome them finally and get my Light Up the Darkness achievement, and it is SWEET indeed. If you can beat it regardless, you can take extra pride in the fact that you won even under severe handicaps like I was.
Only a select few have the options of personal banks in WvW. Smaller servers have a hard time holding their keeps long enough to upgrade them. So the bigger number 1 servers might have the banks, but not the smaller servers.
Just go to your Borderlands Citadel. The crafting stations there serve as an impromptu bank. There’s also a BL trader and guild registrar that you can talk to to access your guild bank.
It’s probably been said already, but ANet have said in an interview that Season 2 is “mostly” permanent content. So let’s wait and see how it turns out before passing judgement, yes?
I do think they should move the timetable to new stuff every 4 weeks instead of sticking to the biweekly schedule, but like I said, I’ll wait and see.
Empower and their speed buff do come in handy at times.
At the same time though, you could get Wurm’s Bane just by happening to show up to a TTS kill and autoattacking a Wurm just enough to get credit, then die and stay dead for the rest of the kill.
But on the other hand, there are those who’ve cheesed past Liadri using life-steal builds.
At the end of the day though, OP, wear whatever you like better. Trust me, most players won’t care what title you’re using.
@Tman: Oh, I still do. And honestly, it wouldn’t bother me too much if they were gone forever. But it did look nice to have those special icons in my Hero Panel.
Managed to get Light Up the Darkness on the weekend using your build, Safari.
(Although I didn’t have the Ascended trinkets. I made do with a mix of Berserker and Knight’s.) Thanks for sharing!
The immunity to Cripple is the key for the fight, I feel. Aside from that, it’s just a matter of keeping Liadri’s health low and doing your best to kite multiple Visions into the light wells at a time. (You won’t get time to throw both unless you use Endure Pain, but keeping the Visions low also helps give you more space to move around.)
WTB Swimming lessons for my Flesh Golem please!
Server: Tarnished Coast.
Came in 2nd, got the 2nd place chest as it should be. Stayed on TC from start to finish (never transferred).
What?
Just providing some info from someone who DID get the chest. It might help the devs figure out why some people aren’t getting their chests (e.g. did they transfer? Did they complete just 10 achieves or all 14?)
Lucky you. XD I live in a firmly Labor-held seat, so our area was slated to be one of the last to get the NBN, and now with the Libs in charge and cost-cutting, it’s likely we’ll never see the NBN in my area at all.
By other races, you’re referring basically to the Charr, who were ruled by the Flame Legion at the time. The Asura hadn’t arrived at the surface yet, the Norn were too busy drinking and hunting to take notice of what was going on in Ascalon, and the first Sylvari wouldn’t even be born for a few hundred years.
There’s even some debate among modern Charr about whether the Searing was necessary, but like modern humans, they can’t help but take some pride in it, just like how some Americans are proud of having won the war against Japan, despite the horrific civilian casualties and long-term health issues caused by the atomic bombs dropped on Japan.
In any case, I can assure you that the other races would not approve of or support Kryta in annexing Lion’s Arch.
Besides, if Kryta really wanted to annex Lion’s Arch, the best way to do so would be with overwhelming charitable support right now as they rebuild. Capitalise on the feeling that the Captain’s Council and the Lionguard were inept and incapable of protecting their citizens. Subtly hint that things would be better and safer under Seraph protection, and let the Archians come to the conclusion that they WANT to be under Krytan rule. Things will take their course from there.
(Of course, given that DR is apparently still hurting for funds and rebuilding after Scarlet’s attack, I doubt they’re in a position to do that right now.)
Torch. The white flame should go nicely with the Radiant armor on my Guardian.
Server: Tarnished Coast.

Since may I remind you that the five major races of Tyria are the actual patrons/backers of the Pact. The other four races would be bound to assist Humanity as a member of this Pact to assist in neutralising without mercy any and ALL opposition that may arise in the annexation of Lion’s Arch up to and including the port’s complete destruction.
I think we have another Adelbern in the making here, guys. >.>
I’m still hoping they’ll bring it back. I liked my Human being a Diplomat and my Sylvari being Captivating. :/
I’m pretty happy with my female Mesmer’s long hairstyle, but I always support more cosmetic options.
Down to personal taste, I feel. Personally I couldn’t stand any of the male Charr hairstyles, and just opted to go “bald”.
Am I the only one disappointed when I clicked on the thread and it didn’t contain “How are you?” as the first line? XD
I’m sure I could sell the resultant fan-fic to certain… imaginative audiences.
This actually raises an interesting question. What powers a golem’s “sentience”? Back in EotN, golems were basically automatons that carried out their creator’s instructions and nothing more. They had no capacity for learning, improvisation or dealing with any situations outside of their purpose.
But those golems were basically statues animated by magic. What about golems that are powered by imprisoned souls or elementals? Do only those kinds of golems gain sentience? Is O-Tron one of these types of golems, for example? Or does his unusually high level of intelligence stem from something else?
It’s that high? Wow. O.o
Personally speaking, I do wish I could buy them. I’m at 146 out of the 420 I’ll need. I’ve also heard that some players (frequent dungeon runners, I’m guessing) have stacks of Dark Matter and nothing to spend them on.
Is there some reason why you want to sell your stuff at a price LOWER than the highest bidder?
I wonder how many recipes are actually in circulation…
No no no.
No no no.
No no no.
Please continue to buy gems with gold, everybody! We’re almost within sight of that magical day when I can sell 100 gems for 10 gold!
Just be patient. If you’ve listed your item at a reasonable price, it WILL sell eventually, even if you get undercut a few times by 1c each. If more than a week passes and your item still hasn’t sold, then chances are you priced it too high (or the market moved lower), and you should look at relisting.
To be fair, the centaur supply carts dropping those mats was an anomaly compared to everything else. If they did decide to remove it, I can’t really blame ANet for it.
Hoelbrak was always one of the least popular cities even before the Megaservers. It’s a lot better than it used to be, however.
Perma-weakness is a nice way to keep him under control.
Yeah, you can relog as long as you don’t leave the party. (But note that if you log off for too long, the game will auto-kick you from the party.) Leaving the party is what causes the instance to get destroyed. Not sure about switching characters.
One thing I would like to see is the ability to get the Boots (and presumably the Chest/Leggings in future) at an earlier AP tier. If I like the Radiant set, but hate the Hellfire set, I shouldn’t have to get the Hellfire set before the Radiant boots.
I don’t even bother. I’ve already gotten all of the rewards I wanted from previous Living Stories, and I find getting tokens in the Cliffs+Aspect Arena much more relaxed and stress-free. Nowadays I only visit the Pavilion to do the Gauntlet.
47 tickets, a Metabolic Primer and a Strength/Armor/Rejuvenation/Speed Booster later (plus a custom purchased set of Rabid armor), I have finally Lit Up the Darkness!
Special thanks go to Safari for his build and technique. I almost ragequit a couple of times due to my ping (from Australia, so it’s at least 200 ms) causing the game to think I was closer to the Visions than I really was, or not letting me pick up orbs when I was standing right on top of them. But I finally got it in the end! /dance
The entire festival is a big hint that the Zephyrites went to Cantha after last year’s Bazaar.
Talk to Fade on the docks for more information.
Yeah, they drop from the Zephyr boxes, but the odds are extremely low.
