try Celestial amulet,
Lb+S/W 4/0/4/6
runes that grant a might bonus/duration. or a power type set.
longbow + sigil of fire + sigil of whats the name (7% crit)
Sword (sigil of strenght) horn(up to you i use sigil of earth ) but the horn one is preference.
Traits.
marksmanship = Sharpening stone, Spotter
Wilderness survival = 20% cooldown on survival skills , Oak heart or off-hand training / shared angusih (check what classes are the opposite team before choosing if you need more regen or more damage quickly or that extra stun removal it maybe 90secs but it can save you in the best of moments)
nature magic = Natures bounty , vit to power/evasive purity , Survival of the fittest
utlity
muddy terrain/quicken zypher your choice i kinda like to use muddy terrain if i decide to go mid / near , or quicken zypher if mid far.
lighting reflexes = for mobility and stun break / condi removal
#signet of the wild = your damage reduction through passive healing / evades + kiting with the Celesital amulet it’ll be at 81hp per second i find its enough to help and makes for some great tank/evade combat when used with oak heart.
i think this is a good/great build thats got great mobility+good damage and great when given the chance to use longbow on multipul targets using fire sigil.
and has some amazing potenional for tankiness just by swapping 2 traits oak heart and natures bounty .
if the group already has a water field using ele + shout war and support guardian.
the healing spring is mostly used for condi clean + regen if your built for the regen.
a side from that if your build works aorund applying conditions through evades and kiting its better to use those evade times to avoid damage and use Troll ungent to better effect.
the vigorous renewal trait i see as a bonus as i use lighting reflexes on a reduced cooldown so i don’t see much of a difference in my build .
the VR trait i would consider if you’d like that or energy sigils so you can opt for wilderness survival to reduce your cooldowns , if using S/W+ A/D or that kind of evasive combat style .
if not an evasive combat style i’d always take vigours renewal with troll ugnet (no team) healing spring with team (if they can’t provide for themselfs ) those regen condi evasion builds need to be in the thick of it so there won’t be much time to hop out and using healing spring in a combat situation unless you run with ts + guildies to get better use from healing spring.
so yes alone Roaming troll ugent (just make sure you got enough condi removals first)
healing spring if in small groups (if you see tons of healing fields around already you can opt for troll ugent for some heavy evading/tankiness)
best thing to do , is learn to use the pet rather than stow it.
using warhorn 4 with sigil of strenght + high crit chance with 3 in nature magic(shared boons) will stack up to 16 might stacks, considering if you hit all with crits.
that comboed with compaions might your crits grant your pet might in the same manner, so with those your pet will hit 20-25 easily with only warhorn #4
it stands about 10-15 might on the ranger and near max on the pet.
using might duration runes will increase the size of the might stacks due to duration too meaning a long but extreamly easy to maintain in combat as every attack you crit with will give your pet two stacks of might.
1 from sword , 1 from trait and a bonus one from crit with sigil in a pattern of stacks, 2,2,3,2,2,3 each lasting 8secs with strenght runes each auto chain on sword 1 takes 1.25secs and grants 2 might min for 8secs.
over the 8secs you can stack that amount of might/time so around 10-13 without rampage as one or party buffs.
and yep you’ll have to work for your pets though they are very easy to find.
(edited by Zenos Osgorma.2936)
i don’t see it as a improvement to change the attack to a Directional arrow it’ll mean more management and most of the time , when im using main hand sword i click my macro button on my mouse for a muddy terrain and aim at the same time when leaping backwards , when i land at the end of the animation i instantly put down the muddy terrain , then ether escape or procced to the nearest field and make use of the chain leap.
with that above i posted trying to aim the sword leap would be good.
but the first in chain should be the same it would be too much mouse management when using Ground targeting skills in conjuction with the sword 2 chain.
i mained ranger in gw1 too , and i found it way to easy without a pet and in gvg it reduced my pressure effectiveness , sicking the pet on a lowly monk forcing him to use mana on himself rather than full heals on the team.
but when i did take off the pet yes the damage improved but so did the mana consumption , so that needed lower cost skills and the old quicken zypher , dodge skills to deal with the extra agro , so in the end having a pet for damage and control , agro or pressure or take two skills to deal with the additional people chasing you because they have less to focus on.
so for that reason i see why they added perm pets in pvp terms it means we have the utlity of both of the above situations when taking damaging utlities , that nearly all of the evading/trap utlities do some damage. its not about the numbers but how you use that machanic to influance the direction of the match/fight through pet use and control effect skills thats what made the gw1 bunny thumper so strong both hard cc and near 100% control from the hammer attacks.
pets grant us the chance to be precise in our movements , if it wasn’t there you’ll be pressured into oblivion beacause 1 . no fear 2. no drake cones to protect you while your rooted. 3. no knockdowns on swap demand 4. there won’t be any left or right when the target is trying to avoid your pets attack chains they will B-line right for you and pressure till you die.
even if you did whats going to replace those pet skills knockdowns, extra bleeds and aoe tail swipes.
10% would be a understatment , that would be a class redesgin and i don’t think the championship teams would be happy with that change.
same ideal for gw2 influance the fight/control don’t make it abvous your trying to control them use the pet to force them to move. he kites left , swap pet so the new one is infront of his face and about to pounce on it, while you kite away with a grin.
atleast its not a mindless flesh golem where you have no control of where its going the ai for pets has improved a lot of the last year.
For PvE the damage scales way higher than that of Pvp as its boss= damage of 5players . baiscly
and if your casting boons that target 5 people your pets going to get left out , you need shared boons for pet survival.
that 30second cooldown is punishment for poor pet management and its ot just clicking return ect , put on shared boons and dodge roll before you go down. then your pet will have protection for 2secs enough time to obsorb some damage and revive you up again. use your brain rangers arn’t on trick ponys where everything is done for you.
they will also have all the boons you get from your team mates passed onto the pet, that is pet survival and ps taking protect me as a skill is only useful if you Run Shared boons or it will be Good bye bye pet.
this isn’t WoW..enough said, stop compairing this to a Different game Design. you troll^
In WvW i would play the being chased rather than the chaser a Ranger is a magnet in WvW let them chase you and keep kiting. they will only be wasting their efforts trying then getting side wiped by a zerg truck if you kite correctly with lighting reflexes back into the Friendly zerg with a small group in tow.
im the boarder collie they are the sheep chase me if your dare.
Just posting this to cover my back – some thief accused me of hacking in hotjoin using the above build… :/
Too much evade spam I guess?
Oh regarding strength runes – I tried them out for a while but found necro fear spam and short stuns to be pretty annoying so switched back to melandru for the time being. Perhaps a little redundant with empathic bond but I’ll change them back and forth to see how to work around each one’s shortcomings. And I decided to keep energy sigils on both weapon for the time being – helps when fighting something like a thief.
I think what I find most challenging is the lack of decent stun breaks.
Protect me ~ kill my pet
Signet of renewal ~ kill my pet (60s cooldown? Seriously?)
Quickening zephyr ~ kill myself (worse healing)Lightning reflexes is the only one I find to be reliable as a stun break. I mainly find myself using QZ to burst down something using sword auto attacks.
But if there’s something like a hammer warrior and interrupt mesmer hovering around, things can be painful if you get caught.
All i can say is Rangers Roll out. these Decepticons don’t know who they are messing with.
lots of people use all there big attacks vs a serpent sting roll and waste it all instead of waiting till the evasion time/animation of the sting is over.
it would be a waste on poison pets, i use it to improve the damage a Cat or dog does, the point of poison master is to make sure the healing regen is countered so your pet can do conistant dps or auto attacks/skils , normaly if the targets not poisoned or has some kind of condition on them the pets damage is just obsorbed through regen and Agis/protect boons.
Thank you, that makes sense.
I would like to know if there is anyone here in support of either Tail Wind or Furious Grip in skirmishing? Does anyone find them useful, or unnecessary fluff?
tail wind is useful if you don’t have a swiftness option in your weapon set.
furious grip is pretty point less if you have survival of the fittest now you can get away with just that having both would be near perm Fury.
ya those runes will be nurfed its crazy strong.
if your after that kind of build try it with a Celestial Amulet.
na lol im just ignoring your opions.
The opinion of the new rangers are very valuable because they aren’t made under some delusion that some gurus here have been indoctrinated into.
I wholeheartedly see your point OP. Going from mesmer to Ranger is like going from assault-rifle to literally throwing pitiful rocks. If the class doesn’t make sense almost right away from a veteran player’s perspective, it is a design issue.
I am a long time Ranger player. I felt that the Ranger has been gradually but surely losing ground in competitive pvp and WvW due to OTHER CLASSES getting buffs. Net-net Ranger got shafted every balance update if you look at the big picture. The two builds posted above are great for a Ranger build, but terrible as a build in general compared to what other classes have.
Haha – I don’t know if you’ve played mass effect 3 multiplayer, but I liken going from zerker shatter mesmer to ranger as going from geth infiltrator + claymore (glassy, shotgun, death machine) to turian saboteur with an eagle (little tankier, pets, mediocre sustained damage)!
Sorry, that’s an exaggeration.
Hmm, regarding poison master – I will try that first then. Is it worth using a pet that poisons on F2 skill as well, such as devourers?
it would be a waste on poison pets, i use it to improve the damage a Cat or dog does, the point of poison master is to make sure the healing regen is countered so your pet can do conistant dps or auto attacks/skils , normaly if the targets not poisoned or has some kind of condition on them the pets damage is just obsorbed through regen and Agis/protect boons.
if you acount for the gap in poison up time those 3-4secs the poison is down these hp bunkers can heal quite a lot of hp during those 3-4secs of no poison and some times the situation just means you can’t or it misses the target because the dodged omg.
so the poison master makes it possible to keep that poison uptime permement though i see your point but its impossible to be able to hit perfectly in every situation its even harder to land a hit when nearly every warroir in pvp takes ham/bow.
Blind/cripple/chill/immobilize are the counters to any melee class to. and sure as hell condi removal is a counter that too.
I keep saying it and I’ll say it some more. Rangers need a Cleansing Ire trait that functions exactly like a warrior’s. I suggest changing Oakheart Salve and moving it down to the Adept line to give it to us.
Of all classes you’d think us “Rangers” are familiar enough when dealing with the environment like the cold (chill), hurting yourself during a fall (or something like that, lol, (cripple)), and being snared by your own trap (immobilize) to be able to recover from them a little faster.
thats a totaly different point , all i was saying is there are counters to counters.
and yes Oakheart should be a adept , most of the other classes have adpet regen traits that need a situation effect too. Agreed
That was fast, thanks!
Regarding F2 – actually I don’t use that – I have all the keys and mouse in nice comfortable positions anyway.
Hmm so it seems ony way or another I should include some condition damage.
I wasn’t sure of survival of the fittest – although that fury is nice to have.
I found that off-hand axe pull to be very unreliable – is there a certain technique to using it, or is the range for the pull just very small? I can see how #5 works to hold/decap points, but not liking the root. Still, I’ll give it another try and see if I like it over dagger.
Is poison master really work it over either bark skin or oakheart salve? I suppose Sw/D is poisoning a fair bit. Maybe I should take two sigils of doom?
Is it work losing both swiftness and fury on weapon swap? Maybe I’m just valuing these things too highly.
I do feel very comfortable now with swoop/hornet sting/monarch’s leap/lightning reflexes with detargeting for extreme mobility, and as such escaping a difficult situations is not a problem with all those skills and evades.
Rune of Ice is a bit strange – where does all the chill come from?
Sigil of frailty is interesting – I’ll have to play around and see what the max vulnerability I can keep stacked on a target is.
:)
Test out the poison master , i find it very worth while as it puts on so much pressure even regen tank build are forced into a more Agressive tactic, as if they don’t they will slowly die from the poison damage alone. and don;‘t forget your pet will apply poison too even if your attack misses your pet may hit using a f2 Cat leap or a dog knocking him down applying poison.
i see bark skin more focused on a Full bunker build rather than a condi spec but with Survival of the fittest you shouldn’t realy have much of a problem.
though the trade offs are ether more Survival and damage reduction , meaning you can’t pressure people off poin.
but by applying lots of poison it help your team mates kill them faster meaning more uptime on cap points and kills you can’t always rely on a necro or a thief to apply the poison for you as one necro has it on a 20sec cooldown in a limited area , and a thief only has it ona steal build and a venom build..
where as you can apply it anytime anywhere you like.
This blue tint might just be visual skill facts bug, that is effecting the real cooldown not being correctly ajusted. best to report the problem right away by submitting a bug report in game and in the bug thread of the fourms.
yep thats what im currently doing for WvW but i’ve hit the cap for my server is i go any lower in vit at this current time, i’ll be Stun killed during Zerg pushes even if i do use lighting reflexes to avoid the main bulk of the damage and keep some relitive distance between the heavy melees and me.
to other people Holland above^ Presents a good point before you take any advise from someone promoting full zerker right away, use his method to work out your limits.
check this out tell me what you think, this should solve your problems.
pet tips is to bind the attack key to your mouse or close by.
bind f2 to R on your keyboard . its with in reach there.
and i use C binded for petswap or mouse side button.
you can leave your pet on agressive , if you get someone low and they run away and you don’t need your pet right away let him chase him a little bit, if the pet catches him if his low enough he will go down , the swap your pet to get him to come back recall takes too long to recall after that kind of tactic.
he’ll be downed and out of the game for a few secs and every second counts in pvp.
heck if his down and a friendly player comes by he can spend a few secs to stomp the guy.
the major tip about pets is ot remember where they are, and to remind yourself to keep them close using the attack f1 to make sure they are on the correct target.
if there is a different target next to your target that is low on hp , F1 your pet to attack that target and help down him while you keep pressuring your orginal target.
^ if you can escape , i’d rather not take the risk if your planning on zerging. rangers have limited escape skills but the best types of evasive escape skills avoiding damage while they use those skills.
unlike other Medium armour classes that use Stealth and Distortions to make it harder for people to track you / chase you.
so for that purpose running 100% zerker on ranger would be a death trap for your team,
though running a little squishy is great if you can Escape but not likley as i put above you can’t avoid being targeted playing a ranger class we have no means to get people to detarget us out of longbow..
^ ignore this troll xd
its a good choice too , thats the personal preferance more , cripple at range and a poison evade or a reduction on the sword 2 escape , thats up to what you’d prefer now.
nots seeing where the might is coming from, sword auto gives might to pet
Sword auto gives it to the pet, but you get 3stacks of might from battle passed to pet, and Sigil of Strengh 10secs of might per 1or 2 secs. with the boon duration that sigil would be 12-14secs per auto. though the longbow can’t maintain the might.
rampage as one would let you maintain it if you pop that using the longbow but its better used when bursting with Sword to generate even more might on your pet.
generaly with this the pet will have twice the amount of might you’ll have using the Sword.
but with the greatsword with the sigil you’ll have the same amount of might as your pet.
^
Cavaliers is garabage.
Optimal damage and defense is valkyrie mixed with knights. You should sprinkle beserker in there to maintain at least 30% crit chance.
Lol
..you got no clue you said in a different post that you have a zerker sniper build you opions are moot.
its not just 1 sec its 1 sec applied multipul times for every shot fired through that field with rapid fire and Qz , its up to 6-10secs of chill on a aoe size if you have peircing arrows. even if not the frost spirit does the effect aoe too instead of projectile.
it holds them in place those few seconds could be one extra prot from a necro wells or a eles metor shower.. and you know that one extra hit from those classes could mean a extra 8-12k damage on a cluster of mobs or people .
and if the person pops the condi cleans early its been wasted and we’ll just apply even more chill. so that 1 sec is a big deal.
…you know what i mean did you skip the point where i said null field..
PVT+Zerker trinkets , runes of the pack, ranger even runes of the Centur (reduces cripple by 50% and gives you plenty of aoe swiftness when using a healing skill and when hit too.
somthing with power/Peicision make a build with 30 in nautre magic to make the most out of those weapons.
use 4/0/4/6/0
aim for 39% crit chance + oils = 44% odd spotter ups this to 52% odd should be enough.
off-hand training for more dagger evades and control/poison uptime.
with the S/D set up its better to have more condition damage than the extra 10% duration with a Pizza it’ll make up for that little 10%. you want your poisons to as much damage as they can since you have 2 skills for perm poison its better to apply more poison damage to reduce there effective regen health while applying the 33% heal nurf to them making it even harder for them to regen , this puts their health in limbo and they won’t regen anything , and any damage after that will only lower their hp pool.
this working into a power based build is extremely deadly as it counters all hp regen and skill 6 healing effectiveness .
all you need for a gs/s+d type of build. everything else would be personal preference
Blind/cripple/chill/immobilize are the counters to any melee class to. and sure as hell condi removal is a counter that too.
if your only reason to come here is to throw Negative junk at peoples faces you got the wrong place go to reddit and cry there.
instead of throwing negative junk, be constructive and go to the suggestions thread and do somthing Constructive..geez
if thats the case its a bad ranger that does not notice or fails to check if the target/targets have the Retal boon.
its situational , normaly if i see a Nul field get thrown down by my guildies I let rip with that barrage.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/suggestions
Op can you send these ideas to the suggestions thread. this is a good idea and simple they might consider it.
B – line for the Squishy Zerker ranger , no ranger should ever go Full zerker in WvW lol
10 shots at 20% chance , so ya 40% of those shots will trigger a finisher. ^-^
15% speed bonus is perfect then .
i didn’t consider the amount of swiftness , maybe if they combined it with the major minor trait that would be more appropriate
if the pets going to be hitting near a 50% speed buff , (as the idea it becomes a passive) then all you’ll need to apply is the swiftness.
50% speed using passive swiftness (you’ll never be without it anyway).
for a pet that would be too high for a minor adept trait , so i see the major minor trait location more suited.
it still leaves your trait slots open but then it gives you a reason to go 3 in skirmishing not only for the fury (now we get tons of that from else where) somthing is needed to make the Minors of skirmishing more attractive for synergy/pet purposes.
I’ve Revised your build for more Survivial time, and more damage overall though there is a 11% crit damage reduction the boons will make up for that with every attack makign better overall damage for you and the pet.
the Vit to power trait isn’t worth that much in your build as you only have abotu 450 vit in total and 7% of that is only about (edit just checked you get a 110odd additional power , so thats been swapped for Natures protection for yourself and pet defence making the most of your boon Duration time from nature magic.
when you click the link don’t forget to add about 10-15 stacks of might as you’ll be stacking about 8-10 yourself while using your sword set and longbow won’t generate any might and the sword should be used to maintain it with attacks and battle
check out the damage if you stack to 25 might.
works on ether gs or s/w , ether way one cleaves and chops granting you the same amount of might, but gs leaves the pet without the bonus might from the S/w.
(edited by Zenos Osgorma.2936)
with your boon Duration i’d opt for Rampage as one too.
if your using a damage/ boon set of weapon like S/W+lb take Sigils of Strengh and Sigil of battle on the warhorn.
with longbow Sigil of fire + Sigil of perception fire will make some very good damage with the kind of build your working towards.
and finaly Runes of Hoebrek(defence against some short term conditions)
or Strenght for the might Boon Duration should be 8secs of might to your pet on every chain of Sword auto with battle and shared boons you stack crits/damage. Aoe sigils of fire and very good damage from the pet.
+1 to all , great tips the above, these tips you guys have posted just so others know where to apply these combos , mostly for WvW and pvp modes.
for PvE planting Trap combo fields should be done at the end of stacking so you don’t overwrite someones healing field or think about when and keep a eye on what fields are going down , don’t spam them all it could lead to the death of a team from overwritten healing fields.
though Frost trap can be realy helpful in those fights where waves of mobs come charging at you , looking at you CoF , Frost spirit and frost trap make for a amazing mob control and let your Warroir Zerk down masses in one hundred blades in a single spot.
^ kinda a bad idea that would make it look like a bug/glitch from the other players point of view and complain or not notice then complain about the placebo damage increase.
Durzlla got the right idea the pet and the ranger don’t have much synergy out of traits the only way at this time to get this Synergy is to get Shared boons.
or use lots of Traits too boost pet speed/damage.
the best way to fix this without overpowering the Minor traits would be to combine the Agility_Training with the minor of skirmishing tree, but instead of 33% it would be 15% (33% is too high for a minor/merge)
then a new Trait can take its place but that one is up to anet to decide on.
..ahh and thats what i get for trying to help some moot trying to prove me the Negative points Every class has Negative points , and if you can’t work out how to move fast on a ranger your doing somthing wrong or just in a sense of doubt because of other people don’t let it get to you.
only warroir and Thief can Escape from me in pvp as Eles are needed on point if those classes ran away that removes a major part of the Aoe and condi clears.
so nearly everything you said im ignoring there is no Such thing as 1vs1 in this Game, what game mode promotes 1vs1 none of them.
the ranger gives amazing Mobile support without having to pay the longcool downs of 40+secs.
your second comment was much more contructive than (rangers is bad) that previous one was a bad post with no re-enforcement atleast think like you did in your second post when giving constructive advise..
you can time your evades , and have someone nearby get someone from main to come to you finish him fast , with a rangers mobility you’ll have no problem blitzing over to mid to help while you swap places with a guildie , the class can’t be played like a other classes where they can solo a node it requires an active communication
also the longer you keep that decent player on the node they aren’t helping else where too.
you have described the compision of team work is and losses will happen if not timed or rotated correctly.
play with your guidlies if you go ranger its not the type of class that can be played at a high lvl pvp,wvw without comminication like the other classes can.
solo can be ignored i see that places as only pvp practice and a place to test builds.
^euratien stop giving us bad rep, we do fine in small and large zergs (it may be fustrating that we can’t be like warroirs no lol)
not amazing like the fans favorite , if you realy want to see a good ranger play pm me and i’ll invite you to my twitch account and i’ll show you if i get enough responses i’ll invite anyone willing to learn ranger outside of a bezerker set for WvW.
i won’t be showing you gear or what to use but guide lines visual tips you can learn by watching how i play my ranger , if its helpful all the better, i hope to help people improve because there are and is too many people that still struggle to play a ranger efficiently in WvW because of all this bad rep if Gvg had its own mode then yes the ranger would be lacking as it takes up limited space as wvw 90% of the time does not suffer from.
the main question is what can you do to help the ranger community? if you don’t want to help don’t bad mouth it and give people constructive support on how to improve their game , they will be much happier to learn some new tips, than to read the dribble and negative comments.
here to help
every kill done with rampage as one active with burst zerker set up.
not the best of choices for a WvW build might be better off with a bit more vit and thoughness aiming for 22k hp is a safe zone , i’ve been on fsp since i started playing gw2 and i do see a lack of active ranger play but its on the up , i’d gladly help anyone trying to improve there ranger game that doesn’t involve a full zerker set up keep that stuff in pve generaly its not effective if your targets able to run away or simply kites to avoid arrows.
and also not the best choice of pet ether , if you had a snowleapord and opened with it you would of hit more targets with more accuracy those 2-3secs of chill cna land you two more 3k shots.
i do have a twitch account/ live stream that is Avliable to guild members and i’m think of inviting those that are truly willing to learn to play ranger out of a Bezerker Spec for WvW its much more effective to know what skills to use rather than to stack tons of power/crit.
if you wish to watch send me a message on here i’ll set up a live stream date and message you back what day.
this goes for all of the ranger commiunty weather you just want to watch to learn some new skills or tips or even just get a feel of how i do things on my ranger more the welcome
i’ve killed plenty of eles and D/D eles chasing me one after onther , and don’t say no matter how good the ranger is .
ps Piercing arrows sat at 1500 range will only hit the first target as the arrows don’t go any ferther , you need to kiting around at 400-800 range. to get the most hits possible.
although the selected target may not be taking a lot of damage but is consistant, if any squishy armoured people walk or kite between those arrow shots will be hit for a lot more this with sigil of fire proting every 2secs can lead to a massive lazer beam type of shot criting every 3/5 people between your target and your self Delivering a very good amount of Aoe. somthing other classes have to be within 200 yards to do.
and that sigil of fire on a melee class will concentrate the damage in that Radius around your target rather than Being Spread out over the line of fire making multipul spikes hitting anything squishy while targeting a tougher.
targeting a tougher target just means we get more chances to spread aoes in this manner , in a sense we don’t want our target to die but all of those inbetween.
People fail to realize that longbow is more a utility than a direct damage weapon.
LB is the traditional DPS weapon, and short ones are the Ultility. The ninja-combat-tricker. Why you think it is good to “snipe with a pistol”? Longbow, usually, used to be the long range and DPS variant.
Short/Combat bows are more for agile/skirmish way of fighting. Less range, less dps, but fast and have many trick. And about the right useage…
- Targeting within zergs are bad.
- Autoaim is rubbish…
- Stealth on LB doesn’t working (for me) most of the times. Even have delay on this short stuff…
Targeting is important within zergs , even though your zergin as a Ranger who has mainly Single target damage. you;ll need to pick your targets Wisely , if your using Piercing arrows you’ll need to target about 5 people deep to get the most out of it.
Agree Auto aim is not very good , but if your just learning to play and still use a clicking method auto aim is a god send, so you don’t have to keep clicking but i’d also suggest try to learn to use your 1,2,3,4,5, and hot key R to the pets f2 or a mouse side button.
stealth on the longbow normaly misses at realy short range it doesn’t seem to pick it up and the auto attack can sometime de-cloak you if you swap weapon (with you melee set on auto making you auto attack loose stealth when you don’t and it to end prematurely.)
the longbow 3 is best used at the 300 yard mark between middle and short range this gives you some kiting space to move behind or to the flank avoiding any spam Aoe Circles.
I don’t advise a New person to gw2 use Bezerker gear , as that requires you to know the game when to dodge, use your evades ect
and to a new person you’l just find it a unplesent time playing gw2.
don’t go zerker till you know and feel good enough to use that gear. also Bezerker gear is Generaly only pointed towards PvE mode.
in high lvl content like Fractals of the mists most people don’t use 100% Zerker .
for WvW a Zerker is only good for Bursting people till they die , if those players are paying attention you’ll have a Difficult time fighting.
for a new ranger I sugesst you to avoid using the Longbow and Bear pet to start with it may be good holding Single targets at bay.
but when it comes to the begining of you story mode , it won;t be able to handle to mass amount of mobs at such a low lvl.
list of good Weapon combos
Longbow + Sword/warhorn (Cat type lynx + marsh drake)
Axe/dagger – Sword+warhorn (Wolf+Drake
Shortbow + sword/dagger (pet drake+spider)
Greatsword + sword/warhorn (Murgallow poison bear+ cat Jaguar/lynx combos realy well with greatword and the blast combo field system the game uses)
Greatsword + shortbow
stats i’d start with to make it a bit easier for a new ranger , i would go with A stat called Rampagers armour looks for Power , Precision and condition damage.
these stats will work well with any set of weapons i’ve listed above.
rangers have a high learning curve so for now my Main advise is , look after your pet don’t forget to swap him out when his nearly dead.
keep a eye on the cooldown timers of your pets f2 attack skills and your own so you can time blast combo attacks.
and if you ask why not use a brown bear .
listed reasons why not:
the condi removal isn’t very effective for such a long cooldown and most conditions on the ranger can be cleaned off using Signet of Renewal (this is a must for a new ranger)
the other two utlities are of free choice but the first skill you should unlock i’d suggest Signet of Renewal.
reason two for not using a bear , if your build is of a condition type you direct damage will be low and the bear is classed as low damage/support so it’s not effective at supporting your build.
one good reason to use bear:
A cat+brown bear type with a Dps/beast master ranger type build , Using your cat as a main pet for as long as possible, and only swaping out to bear to help clean conditions of team mates.
though most of the time they will be able to handle things themselfs.
but in some situation lots of condition will be applied after they have used their skills. and you’ll have to know when to use the bears f2 and swap him out to maintain your outgoing damage.
its all to do with the play style you want but just keep in mind of how much damage you realy are doing with your pet rather than without work as one with it and not alone you can pull off some Amazing combos after you learn to correctly use your pets skills and not just a f2 .
if you need any more tips/ tips about pet skill rotations feel free to post and ignore the doom and gloom ,
bugged i think , it should always give you the option to.
it’ll drain all 3 of your dodges but it’;ll let your pet have 3 seconds of evade and up to 7secs of protection , should be enough evade and protection for an amount of time to get it out of a aoe during the recall.
3 secs should be enough for simple amounts of Aoes but keeps it balanced as no one can survive a bucket of aoes unless you block (at this time you should swap if you can)
it would be strange if pets could block as block is a weapon mechanic or heal skill mechanic .
in small scale fight , will full management that f3 would make your pet invincible through management with timing , the only time in small scale when i loose my pet is when i can’t swap or recall it fast enough.
this recall gives other players a chance to kill it.
simple 3 in nature magic and a vigor boon can let you dodge granting your pet protection but i think it should also grant the pet a 1sec evade before applying the protection just like the ranger.
