Yet another condition ranger thread...

in Ranger

ZeroArmada.9426

I run a condition build strictly for PvE and dungeons (I never do PvP nor WvW)

This is my build:

-Full Carrion armor (Power, vitality, condition) as well as trinkets (rings, amulets, accessories)

-Shortbow (Power, vit, condi) with superior sigil of corruption (although you can also put superior sigil of earth if you want to stack more bleeds, but this only pertains to ONE condition)

-Axe/warhorn – I don’t ALWAYS use this, only for the warhorns skill 5 for the buff, and skill 4 for the hawks which hit pretty damn hard. Axe is to keep myself at ranged while waiting on cooldown to swap back to my shortbow

As for my traits I go 20/30/20/0/0

Marksmanship – Keen Edge (sharpening stone at 75% health) and Piercing arrows (a must have)

Skirmishing – Sharpened Edges (chance to cause bleed on crits), Trapper’s expertise (traps use ground targetting and are 50% larger), Trap Potency (trap conditions last longer and trap skills recharge 20% faster)

Wilderness Survival – Vigorous Renewal (gain vigor when using a healing skill, which gives you 100% endurance regen) and Wilderness Knowledge (survival skills recharge 20% faster, this is for your elite)

As for my utilities, I use these in the exact order:
Flame trap (12 second cooldown), spike trap (20 second cooldown), frost trap (24 second cooldown), my heal skill is healing spring (gives a burst heal, then gives regen and also cures one condition on you and allies), and my elite is Entangle

The only problem with my build is of course, no stun breakers/stability. So you’re going to have to be pretty damn good at dodging. Another problem is the fact that you have to stay still when throwing the traps. Well, you don’t HAVE to but trying to move while using a ground targetting skill is pretty hard to do unless you use your mouse (which honestly, you should be using the number keys if you already have an 80). And the reason why I don’t have 30 in Wilderness Survival (Toughness and condition damage) is because the grandmaster slot has no traits that are useful to me. I’d rather have the ability to throw my traps than to use anything that the grandmaster traits offer. Another problem, and this has been a long time problem for anyone using ground targeting traps, is that fact that you can only throw traps at 600 range maximum and there’s no way to increase that. It’s incredibly stupid, given that my shortbow is 1,200 range yet I’m never ever at the max range. On the plus side, traps are unblockable, so you don’t ever have to worry about an enemy blocking your traps when throwing them or if they walk into them.

EDIT: I forgot to add what pets I use. Since honestly a lot of them go down so easily and are, at this point, still pretty useless, I use a bear (for obvious tanking) and any ranged pet (spider, devourer, etc.)

How to avoid glitching AC

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ZeroArmada.9426

ZeroArmada.9426

Before I begin, I should mention that an official dev from anet has stated that the problem isn’t really the dungeon, more so that people keep skipping mobs which causes such glitches to happen. There was already a big debate about this and a lot of people have suggested to just give the trash mobs better loot but, that’s another story. Also, to truly avoid glitching this dungeon, just kill every trash mob. It takes time but hey, bring some MF food (preferably Omnomberry bars) and just go at it. But if you’re the type that just wants to do the dungeon for tokens, read on.

Path 1:
-The burrows room: A lot, and I mean a lot of people seem to always get pushed through the door when destroying the burrow to the far right corner of the map (if you’re looking at the mini map or the map, it is to your right). To avoid getting pushed through that door, stand either in front of the burrow or to the left. The thing with the burrows is that once they are destroyed, you get pushed back a bit for some reason. And if you do get pushed back because you didn’t heed my warning, just teleport to the nearest waypoint and run back to the room.

-Find the scepter pieces: This seems to have been fixed for a while now. The reason I say this is because before, when getting to this room to find the pieces, and if the oozes spawned, Hodgins will fight the oozes and completely glitch. From the looks of it, anet has either reduced his aggro range but a ton or just made him not fight those oozes anymore. Either way, always, ALWAYS make sure someone stays with him while 4 others go and find the scepter pieces. It won’t exactly glitch if you don’t stay, but Hodgins will follow you into the room and you’ll have to fight the gravelings at the entrance. And seeing as how they’re all scavengers (the ones that knock you down and will destroy you if you don’t have stability/stun breakers), it will be a pain to fight them.

Path 2:
-Take Detha to the champion room: This is where most people seem to glitch. If you’re skipping mobs plus the oozes, there is a way to de-aggro her and not start the event right away. Basically, upon entering the room where Detha must set up the cannons, make a left and just keep going left into the corner. EVERYONE must go to this corner, Detha will de-aggro, and then you can safely walk towards the center. There isn’t a specific spot to go, just as long as you DON’T go to the middle. Avoid going to the middle until everyone is at the same spot and Detha is no longer fighting anyone. I’ve included some screenshots to give you a better idea of where to go, but again, it doesn’t matter what spot you go to just as long as you DO NOT enter or even cross the middle part of the room until everyone is ready.

Path 3:
-Taking Tzark to the lover’s crypt: Believe it or not this can actually glitch. The best way to avoid this happening is for everyone to quickly skip the 3-4 ghosts that spawn, immediately head to the far corner away from the ghosts, and just wait until everyone is de-aggroed. If even ONE person stays close to the ghosts, Tzark will continue to fight the ghosts, die, and this will possibly glitch. It has happened to me, and I’m sure it has happened to others.

These are pretty much the main things that seem to glitch in AC. One major glitch which I unfortunately don’t know of a fix, or if there even is a fix, is that in path 1 very rarely you will kill the last boss yet get no tokens even AFTER defeating the boss. If this happens, you’re pretty much SOL (urbandictionary to find the definition, as it will get censored if I type it out). And one last thing that people seem to forget, but it isn’t exactly a glitch:

In path 2, when you go to the trap room, everyone needs to go to the far corner in order to active the cutscene/event. It isn’t a glitch, but a lot of people (usually the ones that are going to kite the mobs around the traps) seem to forget that in order to start the event, you have to get close to the traps first THEN it will trigger. Again not a glitch, but people seem to forget how to even start the event at times.

Two quick questions

in Lore

ZeroArmada.9426

That’s weird to make prequels instead of sequels for the books…

They aren’t really prequels or sequels per se (except in the sense that they’re all set before the game itself) because the stories aren’t connected except for being set in Tyria. They’re just separate novels set in the same world, with different characters and plots that don’t link up except in the broadest sense of sharing lore. You can read them in any order and not miss anything, so publication order wouldn’t have mattered too much. They just fill different gaps in the lore.

Hope that makes things clearer.

Ohh alright then that’s good to know, thanks

Thief. I am still very happy with it. I do not worry about nerfs. In every MMO, eventually somewhere along the line my favorite class – whatever it may be – IS going to get nerfed somehow. Expect it, be ready, and be flexible and it won’t bother you as much. Same with buffs by the way.
And because of my “expect it, be ready, be flexible” philosophy I am not one to reroll once they nerf my class. I simply do not let it ruin the fun I’m having. Besides, it forces me to rethink my character, and letting me invent new ways of playing. And that is fun in and of itself.

Btw, this is an answer I would have given for every class in every MMO.[/quote]

But what if you spent all this money on gear and trinkets, then that specific build gets nerfed. Are you going to buy new gear again? Assuming you don’t have much time to play and get on about 2-6 hours per day

ZeroArmada.9426

I started playing this game with a warrior. I got bored REALLY, REALLY fast and stopped at about level 7. I made another character, and it was a ranger. I had so much fun with it, it was my main for a long time now. Then I decided to get every profession, so I did (almost). Currently, I have my ranger, elementalist, engineer, and guardian at level 80 fully decked out with gear. I am still trying to get my necro, thief, mesmer, and warrior to 80.

After seeing how pets are incredibly useless, especially since I do a ton of dungeons on a daily basis, I began to play my ranger less and less, which made me sad because my ranger was my main (and I’m unclear as to still consider it my main). Playing as a guardian was a very fun experience, and not being so damn squishy was a plus. Playing as an elementalist is so, so damn fun. Dual dagger elementalist is PERFECT for anyone who has ADHD, as you have to seriously be super active to be able to use d/d effectively and I love it. Playing as my engi was fun at first, using turrets and just sitting back killing mobs, then got bored and used it only for gathering resources and completing dailies, then for some reason was interested and made it to 80. Engineers are insanely versatile, so it was incredibly hard to stick to one build for my engi. I ran an alchemy build and still do, but I’ve tried kits and they’re just so…broken. They don’t take the same stats as your weapon in hand, the flamethrower doesn’t always hit enemies, and it seems that the only way to be effective with engi’s are going with a grenade build (although, with the current nerf to them, I’m not even sure about that).

Currently leveling my necro, and it is so much fun. Noisy as all hell, but fun. Although necro pets are broken as well since that one shadow pet doesn’t always attack, but I like it so far nonetheless. I’ve gotten my mesmer to level 10, and I also like that class. Thieves are very new to me, as mine is only about level 5-6 or so, and I honestly try to go back to my warrior but christ sake its just…boring for me I don’t know why.

The reason I say I’m glad I have all professions (or trying to get all of them to 80), is because I hate the thought that playing one class and hoping for the day it would get buffed, it never does. Ranger pets don’t work and our shortbows speed was nerfed quite a while back because of “animation” issues. Engineer grenades got nerfed so damn bad and to be honest, it really does seem like using grenades was the only way to go because of the constant vulnerability they could apply AND of course the massive damage they do.

The ONLY problem I see with guardians, is just the skill 5 on the hammer. Its a joke, enemies go out of it so easily and the fact that you HAVE to stay still is just ridiculous, but other than that they seem to be fine. As for ele’s, the only problem I have is their lack of elites and how they aren’t that great. I mean, tornado would be nice if you didn’t have to stay in place, cast it, then you become a tornado. And the glyph that summons greater elementals, well, they go down super easily. Even if you’re attuned to earth and summon a greater, they still go down pretty damn fast. Other than that, I’m fine with them.

In short:

For those who aren’t running multiple toons and aren’t going for every profession like I am, how do you feel about only sticking to one profession? Are you happy with it? Are you worried about any current nerfs that have been implemented? Do you like the buffs you have received? Do you feel like re-rolling another toon because of anything that has/hasn’t happened? Please do state what profession you run

Apparently the new Wintersday patch introduced a new bug to Citadel of Flame.

Upon defeating the 3 godforged creatures (I forget their name, they’re right after the devourer nest part), there is a chain you pull to open the gate to the prison warden. This chain will not give you the option to pull, thus not opening the gate and ending the dungeon right there and then.

I encouraged my group to report as a bug, but I thought I’d give you guys a heads up if you’re planning on doing path 2.

AC isn't fixed

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ZeroArmada.9426

ZeroArmada.9426

The problem we are seeing a lot of that is causing this, is that people are skipping mobs and rushing through things, and it breaks their scripts when the players activate something while the NPC is stuck in combat.
We try to find and fix scripts in those areas to decrease the chance of it happening though, so details about where and how the NPC broke, and what your group was doing (don’t fret about admitting to rushing or exploiting something) will help us in identifying and fixing the problem.

For path 2 with Detha, the only part I ever skip is when you’re heading up into the room where Detha sets up the cannons. I always skip the gravelings/oozes. That’s it. As everyone has stated, most of the people who run AC (or even dungeons in general) tend to skip trash mobs as they don’t drop anything worth the effort of killing them, and/or the repair bill starts to stack up.

For Path 1, Hodgins, the part where you have to look for the 5 scepter pieces, I ALWAYS tell people to head to the left just so the oozes won’t spawn. Of course, sometimes people won’t listen so the oozes spawn, we kill them, yet Hodgins will still not activate the event at times.

And as for Path 3, Tzark, that was a new one that has never happened to me. I always skip the ghosts that are in the hallway to get to the lover’s crypt. Once everyone has passed that, we all huddle up in a corner where we lose aggro of the ghosts and Tzark will start the event. However, because one person refused to listen and stood close to the ghost, Tzark kept fighting one of the ghosts then died. Tzark somehow still managed to speak, but when we revived him I guess the event just bugged and it never started.

Whenever the dungeon bugs, I always encourage people to report it as a bug and take screenshots, though I’m not sure how much that has helped to be honest since I don’t think people put in as much detail as they possibly can.

AC isn't fixed

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: ZeroArmada.9426

ZeroArmada.9426

Just a warning to you guys, twice I’ve ran AC today and both times the dungeon bugged. Detha STILL sometimes refuses to set up the cannon traps and will just stand there, even after you kill her and clear any mobs around her. And Hodgins will sometimes not start the “find the scepter pieces” part of the dungeon. There was actually a new one I encountered today, and it was path 3 with Tzark. Getting to the lover’s room, one of the ghosts killed him yet he continued talking. The team I was in revived him and that’s where the progress had stopped.

So yeah, AC still isn’t fixed even though patch notes say they are. Just please make the NPC’s NOT enter combat whatsoever, as this is exactly what seems to be the problem

ZeroArmada.9426

I seriously am at a loss when it comes to engineers. Currently my engi is 61, and I’ve tried 2 builds so far. pistol/shield elixir build, and Juggernaut build. I’ve enjoyed using elixirs, but when I saw the trait of Juggernaut I thought it HAD to be a massive powerhouse. So I’m currently using it, and it hasn’t disappointed yet.

Now, I get on the forums and I see everyone posting about how FT is the worst kit there is, and how bombs/grenades are really the only way to go to get a powerhouse build. I don’t like using the grenade kit because of the constant ground targeting, bombs don’t really appeal to me, I don’t want to make a support build with the elixir gun as I already have another support toon, and honestly I really like the thought of mowing enemies down with the FT. Some of you guys aren’t wrong, with how Flame Blast (skill 2 on FT) sometimes doesn’t work, the auto-attack for FT sometimes misses, and how the rest of the skills don’t really do much damage.

Are grenades/bombs honestly the only powerhouse build engi’s have? Because if that’s the case, I’m just going to stop leveling my engi and keep it there until another balance patch comes out and try again. I really love the FT, but seeing as how a lot of people keep saying FT is garbage, I’m having second thoughts of using it.

I don’t mind using the elixir build I use to run, but I run dungeons quite a lot and pistols barely do anything to things like burrows or those gargoyle heads that spit fire at you.

EDIT: I should mention, I only do PvE and dungeons. I don’t care for PvP or WvW

This is definitely something we need. But I doubt they’ll do anything like that for Rangers.

What’s sad is when you’re on a wall and you can’t even toss a trap down onto the zerg attacking a door. I mean come on? Ranger aoe definitely needs to be reworked.

You mean you being on a high place, while there are enemies below you? If so, that seems to be a problem with any class that has a ground targeting skill

Hitboxes and trap range

in Ranger

Posted by: ZeroArmada.9426

ZeroArmada.9426

I don’t understand why our pets just don’t have increased hitboxes. If you don’t know what hitboxes are, its basically the area that your character’s attack covers.

For example, in Ascalonian Catacombs, those insanely irritating gravelings have HUGE, and I mean HUGE hitboxes. I have seen time and time again where a teammate or I aren’t even CLOSE to a scavenger graveling, yet they’re still hitting you and manage to even knock you down. Its ridiculous, and a horrendous design (or glitch, whichever is first).

Another example is an NPC in Caudecus’ Manor story mode. At some point, you will come across a man guarding a door and you have to fight him. This guy WAILS on you without even being close to him. I was doing CM on my engineer today and I went down FAST. There was nothing around me and when it happened again, I noticed that this NPC had an insane kittening hitbox.

Now, as for traps, I can’t even believe the range on these things. The maximum traps can be thrown (if you have the trait where it makes traps ground-targetting) is 600. 600?? My shortbow is 1,200 range, yet I’m never at that range and always up close because my traps are 600 range. Why? I’ve seen NPC’s (again, AC, the ghost rangers) where they sling their traps AT LEAST 1,200 range. And trust me, I have tested this because while doing dungeons, I’ve aggro’d a ranger, ran as far as I can go and sure enough, it was at LEAST 1,000 range before the stupid trap hit me. And there are no traits to increase the range, which honestly, this shouldn’t even be a trait. It should just be at least be 900 range, if not 1,200.

In short, for the love of god just please increase our pets hitboxes and our trap range. At least this way pets can hit a moving target and for anyone using a trap build, we don’t constantly have to be up close to an enemy. Although I’m not an idiot and I dodge at appropriate times, I still think 600 range is ridiculous when there are NPC’s that can sling their traps way across a dungeon.

If anyone is using this shield on their asuran, can you please do me a favor and take a screenshot of it while you have your weapons out? It looks SUPER tiny in the preview window but whenever anything is sheathed on an asuran, for some reason it shrinks.

Alchemy builds?

So I’m starting to level my engi after months of having it stuck on 49 due to leveling other toons. I’ve spent a good hour at least looking through these forums and searching on others to see what build I like. I would really love to use a dual pistol build with elixirs. Problem is, I’m confused as to how to go about doing this. Some say go dual pistols, other say go pistol/shield, a few say use the elixir gun. So, if some of you could give me a few tips on how to approach this, maybe even post your build if you’re an elixir user that would help tremendously.

And please don’t suggest the grenade kit builds, I cannot stand having to constantly go back and fourth of pressing a number, aiming the cursor, and clicking over and over again.

EDIT: Also, I’ve seen in action someone using dual pistols and drinking elixirs like crazy, and I definitely liked it. I should also mention this is mainly for PvE/Dungeons, as I don’t care for PvP or WvW

Fear me! shout

I am highly disappointed in how the Charr say “Fear me!” The best one in my opinion is the male humans. I don’t know what it is, but when a male human warrior says fear me it sounds very spot on.

I was expecting a ferocious roar of some sort, or a very menacingly “Fear me!”, but it sounds so…weak. Has anyone else noticed this? I’m talking about the male Charr, as I have never heard the female Charr say fear me (although I might make a female warrior charr just to hear this)
