Getting into top10 in soloQ is like luck?

Probably like 30% luck 70% being war/engy, honestly, it was really easy at one point but really slow, I got to top 50 then won like 12 games in a row and only got to 30th because the queue times were 12 min long and I was making almost no progress, the best way is to actually beat the people above you but that barely ever happens due to inactivity.

And ya, If you get like 2 noobs and the other team has no noobs you are probably going to lose, one game I got 24 kills in 8 min and still lost because 2 of the ppl on my team were basically afk (run to node, do nothing, die)

I feel like a pair of shout heal wars 1 condi 1 stun spam with a burst class could be really devastating, but no teams really coordinate atm, they just all play their solo game and throw in a lil team support here and there. Landing a stun on pretty much any target with a 20 stack of vuln is probably going to gib that target, super viable strat since it counters the condi spam meta with ~8 condi cleanse shouts every 30 seconds, but teams dont really branch out and experiment that much because if they are already beating everyone 99% of the time why change it up?

Using my example, you cant really balance based on just the class, but how the class interacts with a team, sure there are amazing 1v1 and generic builds but the meta is so stale and relies too little on support for variation to be made since all the support anyone really needs at the moment is a team to collapse as a member gets downed to do an instant res. So basically, until the scene gets more competitive and active true steps towards game balance will not be achieved since there are so many awesome combos that teams have been neglecting.

It really is so hard to implement this in the game? It really should be a priority over others for you to do?

It should be really easy to implement, the functionality already exists in spvp and wvw, just add a buff similar to outnumbered called “DUELING” or something so no armor is damaged and bam, easy fights to the death with a /duel command.

The idea to toggle dueling on and off should be added with it so the pve hivemind dosent go crazy, also there would need to be bounds to the dueling zone so the no durability buff could not be abused as well as not allow dueling while already in combat, in dungeons or too close to other monsters. I probably missed something else they would need to look out for but I have no idea how any of their stuff works.

The buff problem could be avoided by only allowing fatal damage or a stomp from the other dueling player to count but then that could still allow people to kill each other while fighting a mob in order to not hurt durability but why would that matter in the open world anyway. So that little argument with myself pretty much covers that there is no point in worrying about people exploiting the durability immunity since dueling would not be enabled in private instances anyway and who really cares if they dont have to repair in that rare case where they somehow die to the easiest mmo pve ever made.

I think removing the cosmetic decay would be the best, cus im rank 500 in solo q but if i play 1 game ill magically go back to top 50, but that top 50 might not even be top 100 depending on how many people decayed. Actually knowing where I am would be nice whenever the new ladders come out. Also, the placement matches award far too many points, I went 32-3 one weekend in teamq and went from 500 to 230 because almost all of the matches were stomps, my friend joined us for the last 6 wins and he had not played any tpvp since the reset and jumped to top 100.

The excessive amount of points for placement wins would make sense if this was LoL and there were > a million players but when there are maybe 2k active (play >1 match a month) players the only way to pass the people that got the placement bonus while you lost a single match is for them to lose to you or to have a 90% winrate vs the noobs.

Dueling should be the highest priority, like wow style duels anywhere in any town or zone including wvw. This feature would be huge for the game.

I would prefer if they would give out cash prizes. The winners could still buy a legendary with it if they want, but at least the legendary wouldnt be created by Anet out of thin air.

In gw1 the top pvpers had the most pve money from automated tourney reward points converting into tons of zkeys, people could bet on the tournies and also get reward points. This wont effect the economy even a little bit, there is already 100s of millions of gold, 10k worth of legendaries added to the market (even though they are probably going to equip them) wont change anything. Also 200 hours max to farm a legendary, 2000+ hours of pvp to win this tourney while making no gold or getting any reward other than free 18 slot bags and account bound dye. All of your points have been baseless, exaggerated and horribly wrong, please go back to farming achievement points.

So are you going to complain about Necros, Decap Engis, Spirit Rangers, Condi Warriors and PU mesmers? If you are going to complain about Pistol Whip thieves it is only fair you complain about everything else that is unbalanced in this game. xD

That’s what he and many other players, that understand the game, do atm in the forums.

I feel like 99.999% of the complaints are from players that try to defend their poor play by calling certain things op, the stun becoming a daze or immob would probably be the best bet, the evade cant be removed(although every other complaint seems to think it will make it balanced) because then they would just get gibbed. I personally have no problems against pistol whip on my war, necro, thief, engy, guard, or ranger. Obviously some builds hard counter others, pw counters shatter and it is really just a mindgame for s/f ele.

For ele: get a full burst on them while they are in the precast and they get 1 shot, if they land a basi pw on u just press earth 5 it has basically the same cd as basi and it is pretty much the only reason to go into earth so it should always be up.

Use comet when they try to do an los precast on you (has basically the same cd as steal so it’s a great way to counter that, and the only real reason to go into water is for more fresh air procs or to comet anyway but since they are going to try to stay away from u till they burst ur just gonna want to save that anyway)

Finally, it seems counter intuitive to many but the main strength of a sword thief is controlling the engagements so if you camp their return spots and just try to maintain a 300 range gap then you will completely remove their advantage.

tldr; people dont think about matchups and just complain because of it

lol at everyone complaining about the legendaries, it takes 200 hours to farm 1 in pve, it takes 1000s of hours to be the best at pvp, maybe this will encourage more people to actually pvp, i have noticed the queue times are a lot faster recently.

I really like the thief changes, I feel like chill/cripple/weakness need dr. Some classes can already dodge while immob’d makes sense that all classes should, they just have to remain rooted.

I asked a dev forever ago about allowing custom arenas to host all of the existing activities, apparently that got passed a long but the pvp team seems to be negative 4 people atm.

I also really liked your idea to remove the engy and mesmer from the game completely, that would really improve 5v5 balance.

Allie please realise that %90 of people posting in this thread are bad and/or hotjoin players that have no idea what their talking in about.

PW is fine, if you focus nerfs on PW alone thiefs will just go back to perma evade S/D cheese, or perma stealth d/p cheese. The problem is the trickery tree and the initiative regen of thiefs overall. Atleast PW can be countered by retaliation, unlike S/D which still has no counter.

I hope you realize how bad you just made yourself look. I can’t name ANY top thief in solo or team queue that runs a permastealth d/p build. It is a liability for a team.

Stay focused on PW. It doesn’t need a lot of changes. It just needs the evade removed. That won’t impact top players that much but will raise the skill cap a bit. That’s a good thing.

If the evade is removed then the skill is useless, you cant have a channeled skill on the squishiest class in the game that roots you without some form of defence. Everyone in this thread is acting like they are taking 8k per pw at all times but that is actually impossible against anyone half decent. Most pw do 3-5k tops because people get out of the way.

PW is only good against bad players, it is really easy to dodge and interrupt because of how slow the windup is (~.6s), so in the open it is pretty much 100% avoidable unless they use immob + steal daze or basi, so those are the only 2 times they are probably going to land it which is not very often. Also most people try to keep their distance from pw but as long as u are 200 range away ull be fine so try to find their shadow return points (small white circles on the ground) and camp those so they cant escape after the pw ends.

But a thief can only land 6 instant stun pistol whips a min if they waste their stun breaks and get obstructed on the steal, and even then the stun is removed after 3k damage is done so they can dodge out of the other 6 hits, so at a max that is 18k damage a min and for 50 of those seconds they will have to use pw without a blink or hide, and even if they hide that still leaves 30 seconds to gib them. There is tons of counter play to pw people just dont take the time to think about it.

Not to mention that if they use all 6 teleports a min to land pw stun then they are giving up their only stun breaks.

PW is really easy to avoid and interrupt because of the extremely long (.5-.666s windup) people make the mistake of trying to keep their distance on pw when they should really be camping their shadowstep return points. This is a player skill issue, not a balance problem, good players dont eat full pw.

Sure you are going to eat a pistol whip if they land basi or use 2 into steal daze during the windup but other than that it is very easy to avoid, and if they do a 2 3 combo to immob then just rupt them and laugh as they are dazed and eat a full damage burst.

The longer you wait in q the wider the match making net reachs until teams are made, also the difference in rating of the teams drastically alters the points won and lost for the players, the higher team probably got next to no points.

I once saw a warrior hit my friends for 800k in wvw with arcing shot, then he revived his party with the healing signets instant cast active and cleansed the world of 17 different diseases with cleansing ire. pls nerf :/

Good ideea and all but i think Anet was hoping to squeeze a few more playing players with those glory boosters. Sadly the fact that they will get deleted isn’t enough to make many people endure the agony of playing spvp in the state it is now just so they can get a few glory points more.

But spvp is so fun :/ I seriously dont get why ppl are so mad, a lot of the balance qq is just players not knowing when to dodge.

I need to do more thief vs war duels but from what I can tell so far it is mostly on the thief to not let up on the pressure while it is on the warrior to land damage while zerk stance is up and predict where the thief is while stealthed.

I personally really enjoy greatsword longbow with 20/0/20/0/20 Change any of the 20s into a 30 with your last 10 points depending on preference. It focuses on dodge roll spamming and getting more dodges when you use burst skills(removes condis too).

If you do choose hammer over greatsword I would go 30 in def or disc but 30 in strength or disc is probably the best with greatsword for the cleave damage on downed people.

Use lyssa runes and lifesteal on swap sigils.

Most of the combat skill in this game comes from recognizing skill animations and knowing when and what to dodge.

The main problem with balancing eles is that with the smallest tweeks they go from unkillable tanks (d/d a year ago) to completely worthless.

I feel like many of their offencive traits are underpowered while their supportive traits are more about self sustain than actual team support.

I would try to fix it by first adjusting the traits to be better, like how every line has 20% reduction and 10% damage while attuned, those 2 should be mixed with other effects. Then the defencive traits should be reduced and applied more to the party than just the ele. Once the traits get a solid revamp to be in line with the other profs then the numbers on skills can be tweaked a bit.

It is pretty crazy though how much cc all of their options actually have. That’s the main problem with attunements I guess. Maybe scrapping those entirely and add way more weapon sets so that the ele can be more specialized.

Ele is definitely the hardest to balance :/

I- think it would all turn out well if anet would work together with the players
S-pamming autoattack and killing others is not fun either

engies have and will always be the most op class for pvp, they have more sustain than warriors(turret spam on cd + toolbelt skill with blast finisher is 100 more hps than heal sig), take less damage than wars(more armor because rabid ammy and high prot uptime), can go invis, have a longer invuln than warriors, have a stronger version of dhuumfire, and have so many spammable condi spells.

The main problem with chasing is how slow the ds 2 is, you only move ~300 range closer if you are running with swiftness after them. My main annoyance is necro mobility, roaming with a necro slows the entire group down.

Only class that dosent have access to any kind of leap. Easiest fix would be for death shroud 2 to be ground targeted and for it to travel faster than it is already(it moves at 150% move speed ish, really slow)

Dagger 3 is also a horrible skill and could be turned into a 2 part skill, one for a leap component and the other for immob or high damage.

Necros just need some way to run away because atm there is plague form.

The Gw2 PvP community is starting to turn into dramawars. People trolling people in game and on ts3. The ugly truth about this is: bad personal PvP community is usually a sign of a game at it’s last leg. What can Anet possibly do to make this PvP become larger than life? That 6v6 tourny yesterday had a selling point for me. It was fun and showed somewhat of a skill. tPvP as of now just does not do that. What do you think they could do to make the community come back to life?

By that standard, WvW should have died in 2012.

Should be like total achieved score. For example, in your case their team scored a lot more in total than yours. I think that was the tie breaker.

How much do you seriously think adrenal health heals for? It is less than 80 a second for any warrior that actually wants to be useful. The real problem is bad players that dont know how to dodge thinking warriors are too strong.

The best change for heal sig imo is giving it similar hps to a regen tick while it is active and then a heal that is similar to a 1.5 adren heal surge to stay true to the design of signets, like cool it gives a bonus that is nice, but the active is really strong but you dont get the passive anymore kind of idea, atm it is just backwards.

I didnt mind it, I dont really watch the livestreams to get info anyway because they take sooo long to get to the point and they never really give us that much info, but I dont really care about the top level only care about details.

It is literally just a heal guys, it has no other buffs like filling your adren or removing condis, engy turret already heals for way more than healsig anyway but no one complains about that. 30 hp/sec is huge, it is almost enough to completely fk warriors while fighting condi builds yet again.

and dont be all like hur dur warriors are condi immune cus zerker stance and cleansing ire because we all know condi builds are still the counter to warriors.

Nothing? Swap-Sigils already have 9 seconds cooldown so if you swap weapons faster you ain’t gonna proc the sigil.

Secret warrior nerf, making them go battle on both sets and wasting a sigil slot.

It’s pretty obvious matchmaking in solo queue is broken. Players with 40-60% winrates have long stretches of 0-20% or 80-100% winrates. That should not be happening often.

For example, imagine you have a 50% winrate and won or lost 15 of 20. The odds of that happening are 2%. In other words, if you played 100 sets of 20 (that’s 2000 games!) you should only have that sort of streak twice.

With respect, I’d say that’s not necessarily a fair assessment.

There are X number of people who have queued for at least 20 solo matches in the last 2 months (let’s say 20,000). The chances of winning 15 out of 20 (assuming that your win rate should be 50% with perfect matchmaking) are 2%.

20,000 players have a 2% chance of going 15 for 20, which means that around 400 of them probably will, just in their first 20 matches. So unless we can collect data from a large sample of players and see that too many of them are going 15/20, we haven’t really shown anything. If 20,000 people flip a coin 20 times, it’s very likely that one of them will get at least 19 heads.

Remember that the matchmaker, of necessity, has to constantly throw unranked people into matches. There’s no way to predict how they’ll do without a half-dozen rounds of information or so. That’s one reason why some matches do appear to have poor matchmaking. Other reasons include people playing different builds, or experiencing different levels of lag, or improving their own skill level, or playing while intoxicated sometimes, or any number of other variables.

Also I’m a god and maintain a 75%+ winrate.

Not really, its expected to turn to a 50% win/loss ratio in the long time, so unless your win/loss ratio is far above or far below after 1000 games its not your fault

There are not nearly enough players to make that happen, so it is entirely your fault (in the long run)

Hey guys

Before the solo q reset I found very bad teams and I did that arena game just for fun, also trying new builds. After reset I did something like 10 wins – 1 lose. I’m surprised like all of you about my results, I guess I met people with high leaderboard ranks and I defeated them. I know I had a lot of luck, anyway

I had a really good start to my solo q reset too, went something like 15-2, now im 24-6 but ya, once you get out of the bads it is really more about your play than the lack of theirs.

The skill comes in winning consistently, skill isnt about playing your class, it is about out playing other people and decision making.

Example: Team mate is down, do I have the damage to cleave the stomper in under 3 seconds (greatsword/lb warrior)

I’m decapping far and an engy and s/p thief come to stop me, how long can I stay and get away without dying?

I’m 1v1ing a necro, does he waste all of his weakness and chill so that I can kill him or is he actually good? (because condi necro is the hard counter to gs/lb war)

There are so many factors pertaining to game knowledge during team fights and many others required in making important rotational decisions like:

I can go decap far but will my team lose the mid fight?

Can I 1v1 that x?

Is there somewhere more important to be? (treb npc channels etc)

Mainly doing well in pvp is knowing what skills to avoid, recognizing the telegraphs in the mess of animations, and target calling the best possible person at the start of a solo q match.

Ofc playing the classes well is easy, if you know exactly how to beat a class then you will know how to play that class, making up excuses about something being overpowered is just a copout for when people dont understand what they are up against.

your protip is useless, you are only 20% of your randomly selected team, often with afker or only 4v5

But in general you are the only constant in your games so if you keep on losing it is probably your fault.
