I miss random arena the most, then fa
Cast bars would solve most of the problems regarding different races, and would allow for more reliable interrupts which would make fights more strategic like in gw1 instead of a squinting contest.
An alternative would be to make a standard pvp model like the placeholders for slower computers, but I think introducing cast bars would greatly improve the game.
If you rebind a d to strafe you can aim aoe skills way easier while turning. Just use mouse to spin around.
Also axe 5 would be way better if it hit less often for more damage because you can kill yourself from retal during the channel :/ (but sword axe is really fun with celestial ammy+str rune) 250×5×15=19k damage
I only have fun playing 1 shot mesmer, use scholar runes go invis get point blank and use gs 2 clone and mindwrack for ~12-15k damage. Other than that mesmer feels pretty dead, but ya if the mesmer lands a rupt during the pw precast and the thief still ports onto him he can eat a pretty heavy mindwrack burst due to immob. So it is pretty much all up to the mesmer to not suck.
1) Leave the losing team to spectate.
2) Wait for autobalance to even the teams.
3) Rejoin the losing team.

u press the pvp build button and fill the equipment slots with white items from a vendor where the old ones were and u use trans charges on your pve gear to change the appearance in the wardrobe tab of your hero panel. It is all pretty obvious, take 5 seconds to look at stuff before going crazy lol
Well in any matchmaking where you are teamed with random allies there is some degree of luck, it is amplified by such a shallow player base for this game. However after a largish number of games 200+? individual skill shines through and is displayed in win% To me people with 60%+ are good and everyone else gets carried.

35 kills in 9 min in an old hotjoin
I cant actually play anymore, find the game so unbelievably boring but the combat system makes all other mmos feel terrible so I just play cs go now :/
But before that I really liked solo queueing with unload thief and tpvping with pugs
It would probably take 5+ hours to add all the stuff I mentioned, your guide is good it just isnt really complete till it gets a lot more.
Guide has too many filler words, not enough pictures and no videos. also title should be the basics of d/p because this barely scratches the surface :/
Needs: Matchups, more tips, teleport spots, more tricks, rune/sigil variety
Also : “I would like to thank again the overwhelming amount of support I have received from players these past two years, and especially these thieves whose skills are really unparalleled and have inspired this guide. Without their efforts and ingenuity, most of this guide would not have been written.” is really corny since the guide isnt even 2000 words (and the majority of those words are headers and filler!)
moar
Should be an option +1
Don’t hold your breath! we only get 1 feature(actually good) patch every 18 months.
if you can confirm that it is a power necro before the match starts you can bring wall of reflect and totally screw him over.
No offense, but you’re coming off as irrationally defensive.
None taken. I am often irrationally defensive; it’s my nature. We are all irrational in our own ways. I prefer to err on this side of things.
I enjoy posting on the forums but generally spend too much time doing it, so I won’t address most of your points. I hope you find what you’re looking for. GW2 has pretty active combat so I think you could enjoy it, but it’s not perfect like WoW
(Sorry, couldn’t resist. I’m also irrationally sometimes a jerk.)
Watson is dumb, you are too nice!
The game doesn’t allow this due to global icd. A decently skilled ele, mesmer or thief can chain 4-5 skills and drop 10-15k on you in under 2 seconds though.
? ele can cast 3 utils air attune air 2 and 3 and a channeled skill that all hit at the same time.
joust it… as in always be behind it. Also you can reflect its auto attacks
that wont work, lichs can shoot looking the other way.
Energy sigils = Incredible dps + extra survivability on 4-sigil warriors.
No power creep to see here…move along.
hambows were much worse before patch, I ran 15 0 30 10 15 and every burst skill restored a full dodge roll.
To carry the noobs you must have the strength of 2 noobs and destroy the opening mid teamfight then camp their homepoint while winning 1v2s and 3s, I have had the best success running gs/lb warrior (22/4 record) going from the bottom of the leaderboard due to a 9 loss streak caused by leavers and noobs to the top. Engy is also really easy to carry with.
yep, it wont use up an aegis charge and goes through all the junk, dodge rolls are best dps
Only a terribad dies that fast, they have a leap with elixer gun and rifle, a shield block, high vigor uptime so ~10sec on dodge roll recharge + energy sigil so a dodge every 5 seconds, aoe cripple with toolkit for kiting, strong cc with rifle 2/4, and don’t forget about the chill and blind nades. Also they have a stun break on a 35-40 second cooldown thanks to elixer gun and dont forget about 4 seconds of prot on a 5 sec icd when they are cc’d.
With 2400 base armor and prot buff they take less physical damage than a warrior while healing for twice as much per second, on top of that they get vigor, 2 leaps, the best shield block, 2 low cooldown kiting skills and are meant to be in teamfights so condis won’t be a problem thanks to all the staff eles.
Engineers are also approximately 4.5x more fun to play than warrior. Trust me, I tried to enjoy playing warrior and it was just…boring. It’s like one action per second.
With all the benefits you describe, it’s a wonder tournaments aren’t filled with five-engineer teams.
Because tpvp teams are noob and dont know how to survive with engy!
I’d say evic damage needs a nerf but after playing thief and engy for a couple months I feel really squishy on my warrior due to lack of mobility, evades, healing, prot and stealth.
Engies can heal for ~1000 health per second using the current celestial build math for non believers:
184 regen tick + 139 kit regen + (5474 turret heal + 4200 blast heal + 3344 elixer gun)/20 seconds = 184 + 139 + 650 = 973 health per second
Accounting for player skill management we can say an attentive player will probably have around 900-940 health per second while playing the build.
Anyway, warriors feel pretty naked in comparison to all that sustain and I never have trouble killing them with my engy/thief/ele because of how obvious the telegraphs are so I dont think it warrants concern until people get better at the game.
The heal is nice on many classes. But an Engi dies in 4-5 sec in focus fire in team fights. The lack of good stunbreaker/condi removal and no stability no gap closer/teleport are main reasons. Warrior with the perfect AE CC and a lot of stability is way harder to kill. Base HP/Armor not included. Check the team fights in ToL. Team fights baby

Can you guys fix the evade frame discrepancy that was introduced a couple patches ago, the number of people getting immobed then dodge rolling away, or eating basi venom while half way through a dodge roll or taking damage while evading with thief 3 skills is ridiculous now.
I was dueling my friend engy vs thief last night and about half the time when I used 3 to dodge a nade or rifle skill (which is really really easy to dodge) I would be hit mid animation, twice in 10 duels he got stunned by basi venom and he was stuck in the air doing a jump dodge (body curled upside down floating in the air), it is just way too ridiculous now :/
My only issue with condi is the overload, I liked gw1 style because they were broken down into condis and hexes so you could at least prioritize the clears but atm you get a 20 stack of bleed burn poison and torment then it gets covered by cripple chill weakness vuln and it’s just like game plz
I didnt know chimpy was a necromancer
The people that care about this stuff are the same as the people doing it, both groups are silly.
wtb 5 champ mob boxes instead of champ boxes
War vs necro is actually pretty even, if the necro is not terrible they can avoid all of the key warrior skills: pindown, evic, shieldbash, earthshaker, backbreaker. Then the necro just needs to maintain weakness or cripple to kite or ignore the rest of the warriors damage.
I thought they said the gm traits were going to be account bound anyway, anet pls
There definitely seems to be an elo heaven between ranks 200 and 1000 but then you start getting paired with fresh players who have their elo set to around 200. If they get carried then you get to play with them for a second match, and if you carry them for 4 more matches they get to be rank 1
Both phoenix and dragon finisher are very low quality compared to shark emote, let alone gemshop finishers. Anet never fails to disappoint me.
10€ Gem Shop content >> 1000h ingame playtime content
its sad
Ya I woulda paid 2k gems for the shark emote, wouldnt pay 200 for the phoenix or dragon.
This is actually a really good question.
Since I have beaten the majority of the teams on the list with pug grps I feel like the teams I dont know will win.
I have completed 180 reward track steps so far, so at worst that is 200 hotjoin wins, which is 30 gold in just match rewards, or 36 gold from tpvp, add to that all the mats and rares from opening the boxes with 400 magic find, 30 rares (average 30s), 2 exotics(5g), 4 ascended boxes and quite a few mats, I would say I have made 60-70g. So ima say that he is full of it but it is fairly rewarding.
Say we go with best case, and opened the boxes with 400 magic find like I did then he would still need to do 40-50% more pvp then I did. So the equivalent of 180 tpvp wins in 2 weeks. Seeing as how he has a 53% winrate in tpvp and 49% winrate in soloq I am going to say that there is no way that he made 100g and 20% progress on a legendary in 2 weeks :P
The gift of fortune alone costs 1000 gold kitten , and you need to do 39 reward tracks to get enough clovers, so 9x the steps I did in the last 2 weeks. So it would take 4-5 months of pretty heavy playing to get the clovers for a legendary through pvp.
Not to mention the 400 magic find every pure pvp player ofc has.
This is no criticism on your person, however it is some kind of ironic, that pve players (who usally have more mf) have better dropchances on the chests you get out of PVP, than PvP players.
I actually havent pve’d in over a year, I just bought a couple thousand ecto and salvaged it then resold the dust, at the time it only cost a couple copper per ecto after reselling all the dust. I then have a character with every magic find boost I can find, (birthday, laurel, mf booster, banner, guild buff, outmanned buff) and only log on to it to open chests.
Casters themselves lack knowledge to explain gameplay, it really takes quite experience to understand whats going on instead of just seeing clusterkitten
They just normally say this fighting this and that gets bursted and this stomps etc. but every game there were quite many skillshots going on yet noone called them.
Talking about landing skills is not a good way to cast in a game that has 10 skills a second being used in team fights. The only way to cast the action is play by play meaning the bursts stomps resses etc, stuff that actually has an impact on the game. Sure every once in a while they can say wow skill x did y because it had a big impact on a fight but for the most part the average viewer wont be able to keep up so doing a skill by skill commentary is a bad idea.
Also the caster client dosent have a set viewer, blu was controlling the stream view and sireph was watching from his own perspective so commentating on action out of frame happens more often.
Using the class is easy, avoiding skills, positioning, and timing is hard. There are a few things that are mechanically difficult but for the most part playing the class is really really easy lol.
And the PvP continues in the forum…
is good practice
Outside of balancing issues, bad players, etc, we have the DC. Someone just dced in a high profile match and guess what? The game resumes. Just look at league of legends and their thriving esports scene; everything is played on lan, effectively eliminating DC, and online tournaments have a pause function.
I can agree a pause function is needed, but bad players? You have to start somewhere and good players will eventually take their spot when the game grows. There really weren’t many balance issues tbh.
Ya the balance atm is actually amazing.

I wish they have out rewards for predictions. They did in gw1 and that helped create a ton of hype.
Oh my, I loved that system. It was with the zaishen keys rewards, right? Completely forgot about it.
We need the automated tourney system put in place, then get the ball rolling on more gold for pvpers, in gw1 pvpers always had the most money, i miss those days.
I’m pretty excited to see a bunch of teams get obliterated, hopefully at least 1 unseeded team from each region makes it to top 8.
I love these threads.
They make me want to kick puppies
If you were seriously playing just to progress rank then I feel bad for you. I play because I enjoy it, when I play too much I go play something else, if rank progression was the only thing that kept you here then it sounds like you were never really having fun in the first place.
Setting goals for stuff that does not matter like rank is not healthy, you should be setting goals to be successful irl, not wasting all of your hours trying to farm a dragon emote. Priorities man. I am not saying it is wrong to set goals revolving around video games, your time is your own but something as trivial and meaningless as rank is not something you should set as a goal.
I’ve been wondering about this too. I started tpvp soloQ about a week ago and so far I’m 24-11. I’m sitting around 550 or so, which is cool, and I don’t expect to be higher since I’m so new. But I see people in they’ll 25 with like 80-80 records and whatnot, and that doesn’t make any sense to me. How did they ever get that high? What matters the most? It is very confusing.
There was a ladder reset 5 months ago or so, the records were not reset.
I only use play now because im too lazy to look for open matches. I’ve farmed my 10 steps from custom arenas each day and barely notice the issues, if you run into a full room just hit play now again, removing functionality is never the answer.
the problem with strength runes is that they work so well for condi builds too :/
remove engies from soloq, class too strong atm! or give ip the dhuumfire treatment and nerf healing turret like healing sig since they have more sustain/outs than warriors, and have almost no counter play since they apply a 7 sec burn every 10 seconds whenever they land a crit. Also make shield block the same as war shield block (10 sec longer cd)
It is actually really easy to get to dragon now, just need 2180 hot join wins or 1000 tpvp games with 75% win rate which is easily achievable in a year. So ya it is really really easy, but for the players that are already there, they would be at, at least twice the rank points if they were giving out 1500 back in the day. Like I just got 50k points in a week just casually playing tpvp, that is 20 weeks of playing a couple hours a day to hit dragon instead of 4000 hours of constant grinding.
that, and WvWers arent good.
That’s a pretty presumptuous thing to say.. that’s not always true.
Is pretty true. Plus people that purely wvw have no idea how the game works, I can throw 1 nade on my engy in wvw and kill a thief, I can run around with 100% crit chance with 3000 armor on my war and 5 shot things with 1h sword. I can crit for 10k with meteor shower lol.
People are too used to fire and forget and it takes a ton of the skill out of the game when you can just run up on some one and gib them.
