Hi I am interested in joining
I have 1 DD in full ascended
1 Drood in mostly ascended/ some exotic
1 Chrono in exotic but soon ascended
I have also collected 5 LI’s from pugs but I’d like to join a team to train and get more casual at raiding
Hello
I love to play gw2 for its pvp, I see lots of guilds for different things but I am looking for a pvp guild.
What I am looking for:
I am just looking for a place I can train, find duelling partners, get good advice and eventually join a team.
I want some where I can get good constructive critism and learn how to play better and grow my understanding and share what we know.
I want a place that is active and friendly.
About me:
I am an aussie who has played for about a year and have had about 1400 matches. At the moment mmr is about 1300 give or take.
I can play every class to a minimum standard but my best roles are like this:
Main: Thief
1: Ranger, Necromancer
2: Mesmer, Revenant
3: Guardian, Elementalist
4: Engineer
5: Warrior
History:
I am very active in my social guild SoS and I love hanging out with them. But when it comes to doing things like ranked pvp honestly there is only really 1 other person I can sort of play with.
I was in [ETS] with geri in s2 & s3 before I had to take a break in s4. I really liked ETS it was a really cool place that really help me in gitting gudder at pvp. After the break and into s5 I was with [PFMA] but shortly after the season started I left. Their guild chat was dead, the TS felt very exclusive and people were really rude. And now I am just looking for another place where I can play with others in the thing I love most about this game.
So to not make a wall of text, if you have a pvp guild who is willing to take a newbie like me who is keen to learn and train to get better. I would really appreciate an invite
no need i think they are good as is
No wrong idea, I’m not really asking for a nerf or change to the functionality of traps, or even really a nerf.
Just a way of telling if the trap is a good trap or bad trap. Usually it’s ok, but when you have like 4/5 DH in a pvp map, its just so annoying to have study closely under all of the chaos for a tiny red ring and make sure it lines up properly, just to see if that blender is safe to put my hands into or not. xD It goes the same with other abilities, but these really scream out at you.
Well I was gonna suggest technocolor traps pulsing fireworks that auto tune your bass all the way up and start playing “we will rock you” from your speakers. But what you said makes more sense.
That made me laugh like a little asian girl in preschool.
Haha yeah that was hilarious, this should be the Dh rework xD lol it might be the perfect fix, like when you get stomped with the llama finisher. It’s like… Oh I died :…C but then on the other hand “Doo dee dee Doo Doo it’s a dancing llama!”

Just apply constant pressure here and there, when they go into berserk that’s when you need to make sure to kite, Short bow will carry you.
Kitting a warrior with Sb:
Sb4 to reduce their adrenal health heal
Sb3 or dodge to evade their primal bursts
Sb5 or dodge to keep range
Sb1 to stop them from healing back up
Just don’t take any damage.
Once they are out of berserk then you swap back to d/p and kill them before headbutt is back up. Make sure you can kill them asap now or else you’ll have to keep fighting.
Nah don’t worry nothing serious :P
Just wondering if it’s not too much to ask to get this skill changed to be red swords or something for enemy traps. A tiny red ring around a massive blue graveyard of swords is really hard to see, with guards everywhere it’s hard to know who’s traps are who’s ya know? I’m honestly not really too fussed about anything else atm, just a silly little bit of colour confusion.
Just a genuine request, should I make the title more click at though?
Hey thanks for reading,
I was just reading over the upcoming changes and I’m just speculating on the upcoming changes to thief next season.
- From what I can tell rev might be getting pushed out of the meta.
- With less burst damage overall and the new ammy and rune, necro should be getting back in on the action because they will be able to hold conditions better with more vitality and they might be able to drop warhorn which was originally mandatory as a counter to bunker mesmer’s shied 4 which is getting another nerf.
- Is engi getting another buff to pistol? I spent a whole night of dueling to kill one of those as a thief last week.
- Buff to scepter ele, burn guard and mallyx rev (will this come back with herald getting gutted?) will probably saturate pvp with another flood of condi builds moreso than we have now.
- Condi warrior splashing around in honey when the deadshot ammy comes out.
- Guards spamming aoe slow instead of daze is a harder counter to rev and thief, with it getting spammed everywhere do you think thief will be buffed so that slow is cleanseable. Currently Dash, Withdraw and Dont Stop are still missing the ‘slow’ condition cleanse they probably should be updated to have.
Where does this put me on my thief?
Am I going to be using acro now for better condi cleanse?
Will escapists absolution be chosen instead of PI for meta?
Or will I just have to leave my thief out of ranked pvp for another year?
(edited by Zlater.6789)
Vial of salt has selectable stats and it is craftable
haha yeah getting condi anything can be hard to deal with as a thief, thankfully dash does help us deal with some of the ‘cover’ conditions so our clearing is more meaningful.
@Bigpapasmurf.5623 I would love to duel with you, I’ll add you.
Any tips… I am confident in most 1v1s, I can do most other builds DH is easy if you focus, just count the heals and time the traps. War too I just need to kite Berserk and wait until he comes out to finish.
But condi engi is destroying me at the moment. I can only really use shadowstep, thats the only thing I have against them… to run away or trick them, lol neither of them are effective. I am using just a normal conquest thief build for spvp not dueling.
Just looking for some tips and tricks, I would probably swap PI out for the extra condi cleanse and I think that might do it, but is there any way to know which build they are running before the match starts?
I put this post in another thread that recieved very good feedback from the community;before I realised this thread existed. Here is the link to it and here is the post.

Can we have the ability to add text to our bank accounts on the little black tabs?
… I dont know how to add pictures to the forums

I’m in the same boat, I play mostly pvp though. I just finished my spark collection and to be honest the jumping puzzles were really easy, I only remember recognising 3 lol.
To be honest there were only 2 things that took me a tiny bit longer to do. The first was the sky JP because I was half asleep and the big event where you have to kill that guy over and over again, because I was trying to solo it.
For me the hardest bit is the gift of exploration. I made ‘the ascension’ so I know what the other gifts are like. But the gift of exploration… It’s painful. But then that’s probably my fault for always queuing when working on it. So don’t give up hope, you’re almost there.

Hey I just logged back online after being offline for a month or so. And of course the first thing I did was spend the night in pvp xD I played with a friend and I wanted to provide some things that we talked about the new map for others to see if they agree.
The map is actually really fun and has a deceptively good layout. I was never wanting for a LoS spot despite it being so open and I enjoyed the simplicity of the map. In terms of the layout I’m actually really happy, I played with a Necro, Ranger and Thief so far.
There are only 3 things I notice that could be improved and probably need it.
1. The buffs need a longer commune duration
I noticed it felt very easy to get considering the reward. In one example I was on thief and I was 1v1 with a warrior that I was pretty confident in. he knocked me off, steal was on CD so I only had to bassi venom, Sb#5 up and interrupt him. By the time I got there he had already finished -.- Urgh… I just killed him off point while he was running off anyway, frustration set in.
2. The offensive buff seems stronger than the defensive one.
I think the defensive one needs to give more toughness and less vitality.
3. The middle node needs to be bigger.
Considering all of the space there is in the mid it just swaps back and forth a bit too much and it doesn’t really have as much weight as it feels like it should. There are so many people confused where they should run, my friend admitted to just sometimes running to home with like everyone else without thinking because mid just doesn’t feel as important as it does in the other maps.
Well that’s my 2 cents anyway. Thanks for reading, post if you agree.
No, honestly.
Compared to everything else I play druid has wayyy too much sustain for its damage output. Mender druid has always been an amazing brawler/bruiser. But now I can be happy doing everything, lots of mobility, HUGE team presence! Top tier for 1v1, amazing condi cleanse, amazing sustain, endless stunbreaks, a lot of CC and not to mention those little things like it’s mandatory to stomp them off point. Then we have things like very easy access to stealth so removing targeting is easy and disengaging is also easy. It’s all ok, but when all of that is 1 build…
Oh I agree with this, the platform could just be lowered next time they change the map.
Could I also request that the gate be moved to point more toward the mid node?
Like every match people just insta run to their home node before they realise they run to the wrong one xD
I would just swap acrobatics for critical strikes, it’s the most important pve traitline in core thief. And then just play with different utils.
Thief plays completely differently to a druid, with a druid you need learn to do damage, because your defense is already ok, but thief you must learn to survive because your damage is already ok. I would just suggest take the meta build and instead of focussing on doing damage, just focus on survival to begin with. I learnt how to thief when I learnt to stop dieing.
I always kill them with a thief, not much else that I am consistent with though.
I don’t really like to talk much, but I think the question wasn’t really answered properly so I kinda want to.
No,
I think its the opposite, I think the thieves’ ability to carry is ruined when it’s in a team that moves between points so much they are over-rotating. That pretty much forfeits the match because the thief is only half as effective and losing a player from where they are most effective pretty much turns the match into a 4v5, because 2 members of the team are only half as effective as they should be.
I find that if the other team is good at rotating then having a thief is actually a good thing because you can keep up/go faster that way.
I hope that’s a more direct answer to your question.
(edited by Zlater.6789)
There is a lot of people who disagree, that’s ok I understand their bitterness. But it doesn’t change anything, the DCing player will still return and keep playing regardless of others feelings, really because they don’t care about others opinions simply because it can’t be helped. So what’s the value in making a game more frustrating than it needs to be, even if it is only for 1 out of 20 customers?
Thief is already used for tanking in organised pve, you just go full glass… Then just swap your weapons to s/p for the stationary evade and use invigorating precision, swap in a little bit of toughness for aggro management. Then bam: thief tank. You only lose about 10% of your damage this way.
+1 I agree that if the game is won in the end, desertion shouldn’t be dished out.
same issue at stronghold i think w/ the summon mist champs pts
I think you are right, I only go in there for guild missions, but I remember seeing that before too, good spot!
haha thanks for the support
Hi I don’t know if any of the devs are reading, but I’d like to just make a small quality of life request and see if this bugs anyone else.
The forest creatures icons on the minimap currently overlaps the player icons, but could I request that it be changed so thay the player icons overlap the forest creatures instead?
It’s just a eincy wincy bit of a nuisance when you are preoccupied and have to individually check the location of each of your teammates to see if it’s one of yours at the beast or theirs.
(edited by Zlater.6789)
I really wanna support the OP on this one.
It happens to me and others I play with occasionally. It’s one of the perks of living in an area with dodgy connection. I completely understand why dishonour is there, but I agree that if the match can be won in the end it only encourages the DC from returning and saves your team from wasting the entire match fighting pointlessly.
Remember that 2 + 3 is aoe retal ;D
Destroyer amulet is good.
The issue is that it doesn’t fair fantastically against other builds that do have the best of both words with the merc amulet. That was my only struggle, it was against those players that I knew would have obviously been using a merc amulet to just tank my damage for long enough to burst me back.
Once merc is gone, I think destroyer will really shine.
I am honestly more concerned about how necro will go with losing merc, wanderer’s is nice, but frankly is not nice enough to not pick a different class.
Rotations is too general.
Seeing 4 of your teammates at home under any circumstance. I can’t carry that and I don’t know how to stop it :C It’s usually at that point I just silently cry, a little bit.
Ohh I use maurauders for my chest and 3x valkyrie trinkets with the rest being berserker. It’s is just enough keep me alive for most encounters and it is enough to get me to 99.x% crit rate. It’s a good compromise and it doesn’t result in a noticeable DPS drop.
Thieves guild is kinda cheesy tho. You can argue using basi venom over impact strike but thieves guild for a conquest match is kind of a waste.
This is true, but cheese balls is sometimes what the scenario calls for. As a counter for traps, it works incredibly well and it really helps keep pressure up until their utils are on CD. That way you can focus more on survival. Not to mention that they set off traps and can help distract.
I agree that in any standard match you wouldn’t use anything but impact strike or bassi venom, in matchup against 2 DH or more, especially if they don’t have a ranger, TG would probably be the best option. It might be the only logical way you are going to ever make that 1v1 on far. Don’t write it off because it’s not the exact meta or because it’s easy to avoid.
The game is intentionally imbalanced, its not news to say that. Its like this in most MMO’s simply because it keeps the game interesting. There is a very good reason why Thieves and Warriors are at the bottom end of the pvp line up, and it’s not ignorance on behalf of the developers, infact its totally obvious this is intentional.
Just imagine if elite specs were just as balanced as the other traitlines, or if revenants did as much damage as a mesmer. You would have wasted a whole year of development and the company would need to start firing the staff and stopping content creation to keep the game profitable enough to justify the expense. What do you think is better?
I would like to know where people like you get such insane positions.
Is that kind of like hardcore means elite, and not someone who plays a lot?
Is it kind of like ’fun" is pvp and not pve?Your position is purely speculation. Speculation that is not founded on anything other then your opinion, which gaming seems to have a lot of.
The game is only “interesting” a long as the player wants to play it. when you can provide metric data on how success this is by some sort of empirical evidence let us know, other wise please keep your conjecture to yourself.
Ok I don’t care enough about you to do it for you, but I care enough about people who would read this. So here is a good place to start.
-Look at the most recent April fool’s day patch notes and see if you can find any notes that would indicate any hint of the developers understanding what the most recent player complaints are.
-Find out if they have a team dedicated to balance.
-Who were the 2 most dominate classes in Pvp pre-HoT?
-Watch the last few years of pro replays and see if you can notice any trend or rotation in the dominate class choices.
-Go here and listen to a nice-sounding-voice-guy explain it to you.
http://qqmore.net/video-guide-why-is-guild-wars-2-unbalanced/
You need to really consider if it would be a good thing if perfect balance was accomplished, if every skill/class was the same and if everybody won exactly half of their matches because their teammates skill was exactly what they were expecting, tell me would that be fun?
If you aren’t in full agreement with the last comment then you are not complaining about balance, you are just complaining because you are upset about not having fun… Because you aren’t winning more than 50% of your matches?

DH are hard kills for a lot of classes, even the pro’s who claim they are easy. They do often participate in suck, against Engis, Necros and Rangers though, and these are all very common in Pvp; this is why they say they are weak. Against every other class meta they do have the insta-downing advantage.
As a thief though you can do a few things before game to help your odds. Make sure to have these skills equipped: Bandits Defense, Shadow step, Thieves Guild (is incredible for these kind of 1v1’s) and I would even consider swapping d/p for s/p if you are going to have to constantly fight them.
Overall you really want to make sure you are dragging the fight out as much as you can, if they are just camping home though -.-, there is no point in engaging them, not even a little. Leave them out of the match until their team starts screaming in map chat.
When the tooltip says ‘900 range’ it is the hypotenuse. It considers the thing you are standing on and what it’s height is, let’s say it’s 400 units high. So that would mean you would only be able to hit something 806 units away from you horizontally.
So your question, it would not be in the ‘possible’ scope of production to do something like introduce a way to increase or delete the requirement of the vertical range of 2 skills only.

This would be soo cool! But I heard that it’s not supposed to work in pvp, just like the Halloween ones.
The flailing looks horrible, it’s so weird and erratic!
I would prefer it to have the flail though because that’s how it’s supposed to be, please fix it xD
You are right, and also slow :P
Haste on both utilities and trait, with reductions on tricks has much more DPS. It is true both in pve and PvP, the burst when speced with this instead of thrill of the crime, is huge.
FYI bassi venom and headshot is enough to solo most breakbars scaled up to 5 people, + steal if it’s regenerative. Give it a try
Viper’s amulet with deadly arts, trickery and daredevil?
I wonder have you tried trick, acro and DD? The perma vigor you get with that helps soo much, or is the extra poison damage worth it?
Also have you tried signet of malice? I know it’s a PvE heal, but I found it just works too well on condi thief.
Haha condi is soo cheese balls and kinda boring, but it’s so easy!
This is an interesting thread, I hope we can keep it going.
I found a chrono build with scepter/sword and sword/shield that I’ve been trying out, and since doing it I really fell in love with the scepter torment damage and extra clones. And it was surprisingly survivable might I add.
One thing I found is that with that build you were really forced to play in melee. While you should be doing that anyway to get the most out of your shatters it puts you in instant downed state against players who know how to kite at the right time or are playing DH xD. Here is the thing, because the scepter chain only continues after the first hit actually makes contact the moment you have to extend your range, you lose a lot of pressure that you need to stay offensive.
The biggest problem I see with dropping sword is losing the cleave. Sword 2 is very strong, but I feel like the added pressure does actually make up for it.
It’s actually better to main a thief, it gives you the most return on good game play. So it means you will learn the game mechanics a lot faster and when you go into pvp with another class later, you’ll be a lot better because of your main.
Stealth is really strong as an opener or escape, you wouldn’t use it in a fight though, unless you play a trapper thief ofc.
Oh I play both profs, but I don’t play wvw lol.
Umm they are pretty similar and you’ll be surprised but rev can have much better mobility depending on the situation. Like for example rev can shadow step through the Kyhlo walls and floor straight onto the point if it has a target, however without they are forced to take the stairs. Also if in combat rev can reach the speed cap with superspeed, but uses most of its energy doing so, where thief cannot quite get there without a trap build and trapper runes -.-
I’d tell you to play revenant, simply because it just wrecks face. While yes you can dominate anyone with thief now in 1v1’s. Almost… You will still be doing almost as well with a rev in 1v1 spots, annnnd you have a bazillion times stronger presence in a mid fight, and you have the tankiness to 1v2 for a good 30s on far or until your team can lick up mid.
However one of the scariest things any PvP’r can attest to is sitting on home and seeing a thief just casually strolling up to them. I prefer thief actually in general, just because a thief’s build before a game is always premeditated and rebuilt around the team comps, having only 1 main dps set and 1 set of utility skills. This makes for much more rewarding kills and the necessity for some tricky plays.
Haha even thieves can tank with s/p builds, and in some teams are expected to to the tanking.
It’s funny because revs are naturally very well suited for tanking with insane defenses and so much natural vitality. But the biggest issue I see is with sword 3. It’s the evade that you will rely on the most because you don’t want to move around too much, buuuutttt the issue is it will cause your team to wipe because the boss will forcefully spin around irrationally and cleave all of your glass deepsers. So not so good :/
So why would you run rev for tanking if it’s so obsurdley amazing at what it’s actually good at, BOONINGARING…g. It’s like asking if a staff druid can hurt… things?
Yes I am a scammer, confirmed.
Please convict me.
I’ve really been having really great fun with pvp this season. While I have been losing a lot and winning a bit less, most of my matches are really close and it’s been satisfying. Just don’t be disswayed by the people on these forums or the people in team chat. I usually swap to combat chat unless I’m in a premade because there are a lot of sore losers in the game, and they always seem to be on my team lol.
There is one thing I noticed, the people who complain and moan the loudest are the ones they are complaining about. So be encouraged, and keep fighting, you’ll get there.
You took the photo with a camera? Not a screenshot? Why?
you can look at enemy comp and optimize your build during the ready up..
This is exactly right, you only have 1 dps set and 1 utility set, so you should make it count.
Personally I prefer bound because the leap combo is super handy and comes in super helpful especially with things like the rangers stolen seed item and pistol 5, for example
