Thanks for the reply! I have about 250k karma right now, so I think I’ll probably buy what I can with badges and fill the rest in with yellows. Then I can just use my karma to fill in the runes from there (I’m torn between Melandru and Air, but we’ll see how it goes). I just learned that you can buy Berserker/Knight gear with badges, so that will be a good start for me too.

So I’m 3 levels away from 80, and I’ve been saving up all my karma so that I could buy a bunch of gear as soon as I ding 80. I play mostly WvW and I’m running a slight variant of the Shater Cat Mist 2.0 build.

You can imagine my dismay when I look on Dulfy and realize that you can’t buy Berserker, Knight, OR Val gear with karma

So since I only have 5g to my name (WvW isn’t very good for money) what do you recommend I do for gear at first? Should I spend all my karma on other, less fitting gear and then slowly replace it as I get the gold? Or is that a waste of karma and should I spend it elsewhere?

Please stay FAR away from t7!! I totally understand you want to find a good fit, but we have a really good thing going in t7 right now, and a big guild like that would totally destroy it.

NSP and GoM hold their own just fine, and every time I’m on the numbers are pretty even overall. It’s the closest match I’ve ever played in and an influx of players would make me sad

This. As a Necro nothing frustrates me more than using the warhorn locust skill for swiftness and then needing to dodge every mob to avoid getting in combat.

I’ve been trying the portal stomp in the mists and only doing it successfully about 1/2 the time. Seems like I always “finish” the stomp before it will let me port back.

After reading the text version, maybe I’ll have to just try spamming the Use button constantly after I drop my portal haha

I’m close to hitting 80 on my mesmer, so I can give you a few general tips. As a precursor I’d say that I leveled my mesmer about 70% WvW and 30% PvE, so most of my advice will be WvW related.

Levels 1-30: The very low levels of WvW are quite painful as a mesmer. You can’t really do all that much damage wise until you get gear and traits, but you can provide decent support.

At this point I recommend becoming best friends with the Staff. It’s by far our best defensive weapon (Chaos Armor is amazing), the Chaos Storm is great for boons and conditions, and it’s very good for tagging a bunch of players.

I’d also recommend the focus at this point because the utility is unmatched in a weapon for WvW. You can pull people off walls/cliffs, and it really helps you keep up with the zerg. Which brings me to my next point. At this stage I highly recommend sticking with a zerg as much as possible, unless you have a good group to run with. Upleveled guys tend to get targeted first, and you’ll go down fast at this level.

Levels 31-60: At this point you can start doing a little more roaming and small group play, because you’ll have more utility you can bring to the table. I highly recommend Deceptive Evasion (the X trait in the Dueling tree) as soon as you can get it, because it’s great for survivability.

Here I strongly suggest you take a look at the Shatter Cat builds stickied at the top of the forums, the skeleton versions are still very effective while you’re leveling up, and it fits the Power type build you’re looking for.

Level 60+: Once you hit level 60, you go whichever direction you want. There’s another post at the top of the forum that has a compiled list of all the different builds people have shared. By now you should have a better idea of the playing style you like, and you can either use these or modify them as you like.

Mesmers are a VERY highly adaptable profession, and you can do a lot of different things with them. Confusion is taking a pretty big hit in this patch, but don’t let that scare you away from a very fun and rewarding class.

very refreshing to hear someone say that. . I would say this though, i think t7 is a different animal now. henge and shiv peaks are viable opponents…when we were in t7 with gates and henge it wasnt nearly as competitive as it is now. So who knows.

All i know is im dying to face off with sorrows furnace …i wanted a rematch with henge also since some of our folks went over there .but it sounds like they have been kicked around a bit. maybe a lil low on the self esteem.

but that happens to all of us at one point or another.

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like you’ll get a chance to face off with SF, since that’s who you’re switching places with.

On a related note, it looks like GoM is swapping with HoD as well, so you’ll be up against us and NSP this week. I assure you a lot has changed in t7/t8 over the past few months. We’re much more organized than we once were, and we’re starting to get a more consistent WvW player base.

Granted, we may still lose, but I believe it will be at least a relatively even (and therefore fun, imo) match.

RH does not hack, ever, period.

Perhaps you don’t know this, but the reason GoM is in T8 is because of hackers. GoM got a bad rep for being the “hacking server.” While there where definitely hackers in GoM (which we on GoM reported constantly), so did all the other servers. But this “OMG GoM is dirty server of dirty hackers” thing got so bad, that many of our guilds transferred to other server.

Those of us who stayed on GoM HATE hackers, and we take any hints of hacking very seriously. If you have actual proof of hacking, PM it to anyone on GoM and I promise you that the GoM alliance will mass report them into oblivion. If you don’t have proof, then keep it to yourself. Baseless accusations don’t help anything.

well im glad your server will clean up hackers whenever you see em, I didn’t expect to get attacked this hard for pointing out one I saw, if my computer didn’t crash everytime I try to take a screenshot I would have taken a pic of it but even then it would have been kinda hard to do that. Im pretty new to GW2 so my apologies. droping it now.

If you are new to gw2 then you should ask a vet from your server and they could probably explain the whats and hows.. one of the norn transformation skills has a skill that they can cover a great distance in a short time. also doesn’t a rangers pet also take a condition or kd and anything like for the ranger? plus condition removal signet?

I am the ranger who was accused of hacking. And I am pretty taken aback by these accusations. First off, my build has two traits which proc when i am hit by a disable. One transfers it to my pet (“Shared Anguish”) and one that causes me to go invis for when I get hit by a disable (“Hide in Plain Sight”). Secondly, RH does not approve of hacking in our guild neither do we knowingly run w/ppl who hack. Lastly, I’m not in any exp trains… _ I’m a lvl 80 WvW player, taking camps is an element of strategy.

I demand that GW2 stop forcing its players to create hot ladies. There is total hot woman bias in its character creation system. While I’m not downplaying you guys at all, that first part is a little misleading.

It’s not really 20 v 100 since there are both FC and GoM there. It’s not like all of them were only focused on you guys. As a matter of fact, for the SM part, most of the time it seemed like they were so hard core focused on each other (and maybe the keep lord? I assume because they were all just standing there facing the center of the room) that they didn’t even notice you guys haha

Now with that said, still pretty awesome =)

Speaking of score updates, I love what T1 does with their thread. They put it in Question format and use the “Answer” to be the latest score update. Pretty handy if you ask me.

But for now…score please!

I never understood all the zerg hate. It’s a legitimate strategy just like any other, especially if attacking keeps.

Personally I enjoy a good zerg every once in a while, but for the most part I LOVE it when the other servers are all in one big zerg ball. It’s the perfect opportunity to put together a small ~5 man group and either go on the opposite side of the map, or jump into a different map altogether and wreak havoc on their camps, sentries, and depending on upgrades, towers. Small strike groups are when I have the most fun in WvW.

I say let them run around capping one thing at a time. In the time it took your zerg to cap a tower or two, our two separate 5 man groups capped all the camps in your borderlands, and we’re just about to start siege on your towers

I’m glad you gave it another try though. I haven’t seen a commander yell yet.

Honestly I don’t even remember what guild it was. This was waaaaaaaay back (probably September) when we didn’t have any actual commanders yet. I stopped playing shortly after that and just came back about 2-3 weeks ago, so he might not even be on GoM anymore. At least we can hope.

I just want to give a shout out to the guys at ASH from GoM. I ran with them last night, and it’s the most fun I’ve had in WvW yet. I believe the commanders name was Jael, but I’m not sure (there was an odd letter in there). Anyway, it was nice rolling with an organized group!

I tried playing with another group months ago, but the commander on TeamSpeak was literally yelling at everyone. It kinda turned me off to it, but I’m really glad I gave it another shot, because these guys were great.

On a side note, I highly recommend everyone from GoM check out themadalliance.com and jump on their TS whenever you’re in WvW. I’m not sure if they want me to post the server on here, so I won’t for now (it’s on their forums). Even if you just log in and listen, playing with a grou kitten o much more fun!

I’d suggest taking a look at the stickied posts. The “Find your Mesmer Build and Guides” post is especially helpful, as it has a list of pretty much ANY build you can think of, including some very good confusion WvW builds.

You’ll find better answers there than anyone will give in a response here.

Welcome back! Things are definitely a lot quieter in wvw this week due to a combination of spring break and the new adventure box event, but stick around and give us a chance. We do have an alliance wbsite, a dedicated teamspeak server for both public and guild use, and plenty of wvw-focused guilds that favor coordinated small group play over zerging. I’m sending you a PM right now with all that info.

This is awesome to hear! I didn’t really want to transfer anyway, because I like the guild I’m in (HPV). I’ll be sure to check out everything, and it seems like my guild is part of the alliance anyway, which is awesome.

I recently came back to GW2, and my characters are on Gates of Madness. I want to get into WvW a lot more, but as far as I can tell, there is no server organization, website, mumble, anything.

Is it worth trying to find people to organize with, or should I switch servers? Anyone have a similar experience they want to share?

Makes sense. Unfortunately my server doesn’t seem to have a website (I’m on Gates of Madness). Looks like I had the unfortunate circumstance of choosing a very poor WvW server.

Kinda unfortunate that is what we’re limited to at low levels, but I also know it changes when I get more traits, so I’ll deal for now. A few more specific questions though:

I love the idea of portal, but I’ve had a hard time finding really good uses for it in unorganized zergs. Should I be trying to organize portal bombs, or should I just use it as an escape utility off of cliffs, in the back of fights, etc?

Same goes for veil. Do you just drop it at the front of zergs, or do you find yourself using it on yourself more often? If the latter, I’d imagine sticking to Decoy would make more sense.

So I see a lot of posts around here for different WvW builds, but (obviously) all of them are aimed for 80s.

My Mesmer is just about level 30, and I want to spend a good amount of time leveling in WvW. Obviously I won’t have access to all my traits right away, so I was wondering if there were any builds/guides out there on WvW for the lower level characters.

Well the point of this was referring to SAB, which is supposed to simulate an old console game. So I look at it more of a console game within a PC game.

Besides, there’s certainly no issue using a joystick in SAB, it’s not like you need lightning reflexes for the gameplay.

Not forcing you to, just thought people might appreciate the idea.

Do yourself a favor, and go download xpadder, Pinnacle, or something similar. Super Adventure Box BEGS to be played with a controller! Anything else just feels so wrong!

The game is slowly and gently heading in a good direction and taking it’s sweet time. You haven’t missed out on any Flame and Frost content yet.
If you leave for 3 more months the return will be all the sweeter, but still not a huge list of major overhauls.
