Note, I just Googled the repair so I’m trying that now…
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
It’s not the first time, no, it’s been happening since I’ve been playing GW2. I haven’t tried repair or verify, but I’ve been considering uninstalling and reinstalling the game if that would do any good.
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
So this is an issue I’ve been having since I started GW2 at launch, and now that I’m back after a long break it’s driving me crazy.
Every single zone that I go into, whether it be WvW or open world PvE takes 30+ seconds to load into, and once it finally gets through the load screen, I get a second load screen that takes another 5-10 seconds before I finally appear in the zone. This usually causes me to fall behind my group in WvW or in dungeons because everyone else loads in and takes off before my screen loads.
I tried deleting the .dat file earlier to no avail, and my computer specs are MORE than enough to handle the game, so that’s not a concern.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this?
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
I don’t ever use Deceptive Evasion in a phantasm build, because bringing out clones will pop one of your phantasms, and we wouldn’t want that now would we?
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
Hey Beorn!
I just looked through your post/website and honestly your guild looks like exactly what I’m looking for. I unfortunately can’t be on until later tonight, but I’d love to try running some things with you guys to see if it would be a good fit.
See you in game!
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
Bump—saurus, still looking for a fun guild!
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
Hey guys,
I played GW2 mostly since launch up until last summer, when burnout and a number of real life stuff popped up. As a result, I haven’t played in about 8 months now, and I’m looking to get back into the game. It looks like a lot has changed since then, so I may be a bit behind, but I’m quick to pick things up so I’m not too worried there.
My main is a Mesmer, Willowbreeze, and I played mostly WvW previously (in fact, I was even on the Mesmerized podcast once! Check it out! But after an insane amount of hours in WvW I remember getting kinda burnt out, so I want to transition over to more PvE. I’m not a total newb in PvE, but I’m also not a seasoned vet either.
I’m looking for a guild that I can run PvE content with, including a number of dungeons that I haven’t run yet, without feeling like we have to fly through everything. A lot of PUGs just breeze through and take every possible shortcut, which is fine, but I’d like to experience every dungeon first before doing speed runs of everything.
So do you know of a guild that:
- Is fun/relaxed
- Is active
- Does normal Dungeon runs
- Is willing to introduce me to fractals (I did a fractal once, but I honestly don’t remember anything about it)
- Maybe does the occasional PvP/WvW (Not required, but doesn’t hurt either)
Essentially just looking for a fun group to play with. Looking forward to hearing from you guys!
P.S. I play on the Gates of Madness server if that makes a difference.
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
Honestly? I’ve been playing it recently just because it’s fun. Normally I tend to min/max, but I often get bored with a playstyle and want to try something new.
Controlling a fight, throwing on tons of conditions, all while being very defensive with stealth, boons, blocks, etc etc leads to a lot of really fun encounters. I always love outnumbered fights, and while I was just fine with them in my Power builds, trolling in condi is just so kitten fun!
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
Xyonon’s post is very helpful, good stuff there.
Personally I’ve spent 99% of my time in the game in WvW up to this point and I’m also just starting to get into PvE. So coming from the other side of things, the one recommendation I would make is to not roam in WvW with full Zerker gear.
Survivability is very important in WvW, as you’ll often find yourself outnumbered. I recommend getting some toughness/vit of some sort if you plan on solo roaming. Other than that, good stuff!
EDIT: I just reread the WvW part and noticed you mentioned you can’t afford 2 sets. If that’s the case, playing in Zerker is fine – although you’ll likely die a lot
– but I’d recommend saving up the badges you acquire to use for gear that has better defensive stats.

Damage looks nice, but I have trouble seeing why an enemy couldn’t ignore you and survive. Seems pretty easy for your opponents to just run away, and you really don’t have any more chasing potential than other PU builds do.
With condi-PU, it’s pretty much required for the opponent to kill clones in order for the damage to stack high enough to matter – and when they’re running away, they’re not attacking clones (therefore, it’s an easy escape for just about everyone). With this build, the long, high damage burns will continue to tick regardless of whether they’re fighting back or not – so, you have a better chance of downing them when they run (less damage tied to clone death).
That’s my theory anyway – you’re right in that chasing isn’t any better. Killing the cowardly will be better though. :-)
This is sort of the reason that my version of this build is more shatter focused. I like the more active version of applying the conditions than just waiting for clones to die (or be killed).
The thing I’m struggling with now is Runes of Balthazar vs. Runes of Perplexity.
I haven’t done any testing with them, but in principal I have a really tough time overwriting my 7g runes with 4s ones haha

Am I the only one who finds it funny that this thread was resurrected on Easter?

Aside from power block, are any of the other new grandmaster traits worth taking now?
I’ve been using the new Illusions GM trait that gives torment, and I LOVE it.
Do you think it’s worth taking over Ipersona?
I haven’t crunched the numbers or anything, but to me it makes sense to take it over IP in a condi build.
If you’re doing a power shatter, however IP reigns supreme for sure.
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
It makes me sad that the “cookie cutter” pve build has the same main hand weapon in both sets. So boring.
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
I’m just getting back into the game after about a 6 month haitus, so I might be a bit behind.
But from my experimentation so far I love the new tormet trait.
As far as a build, I’m currently running a 1/0/6/0/6 shatter/condi build with both PU and the new tormet trait. It’s really survivable and gives I’ve been able to take out numerous groups by myself.
With that said, I’m considering taking out PU to get the boon stripping trait, because boons are a huge pain, but I’m still toying with it. Shatter/condi is relatively new to me, but it’s been a lot of fun so far for small man WvW and roaming.

Because then they’d have to introduce restrictions to the free trial, such as limited everyone to the starter zones, disabling WvW access, and limiting chat options.
Think about it from a gold seller perspective. They loooove free trials because they are free accounts for advertising.
I’m sure we will have a free trial soon to coincide with any other major MMO releases + the feature patch in April.
Thanks, makes total sense. Ah well, I’ll just have to wait it out then.
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
I’ve been away from the game a while, but I’d like to come back and get a few friends to try it out.
I really don’t understand why there isn’t a constantly running free trial, seems like a great way to introduce new players to the game.
Anyone know when there will be another trial period?
Thanks!
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
I change between phantasm/shatter/condi pretty much every week. But whatever makes you feel better.
My point is there were tons of these threads right after the nerf, the build is still perfectly viable. It was put in because of the PvP meta because it wasn’t dodgeable since there was no animation to tell it was coming.
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
The focus nerf had zero impact on shatter’s viability. This post is pointless.
Carry on folks, nothing to see here.

Also: How do???

I call hax. That means all of Mooby’s kills are void and I actually went undefeated tonight!

I’m not sure if this is really relevant, but I was searching for an excuse to use this GIF. I’ll probably use it many more times just because it’s that awesome.
On a side note, I’m sad I missed this entire matchup

I use both! They work incredibly well together in the same build. The only thing I miss is swiftness, but swapping weapons quickly to drop a curtain while traveling is insanely easy by just double clicking in my inventory.
Check out the build in my sig, it uses GS/Staff

@ point 3.
They have already stated that there will be a list of achievements to be done in order to qualify for a reward. So in that respect your server will see MORE people join WvW and participate because they will have to go and grab camps, take towers/keeps and defend stuff in order to receive the reward.
I can’t comment on the other points because everything is speculation at this point, we simply don’t know what will happen.
Fair enough, I must have missed that. I’m still worried overall, but that is a bit of relief.
Let’s hope they decide to stick around!
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
I’m sure there are thousands of threads on this already, but I want to throw my hat into the ring.
I never really post threads of doom and gloom about an upcoming patch, because I feel like people in general tend to overreact, and for the most part it all works itself out in the long run.
However, I have to say that after reading the blog post about leagues I’m feeling very down about WvW and this game in general at this point, and here’s why.
I spend a vast majority of my playing time in WvW. It’s what I find fun in GW2 and roaming in groups with my guildmates or solo is always my favorite activity. We play on a lower tier server (Gates of Madness) so we’ve had our ups and downs, and we’ve always been sort of an underdog server, which we like. Until recently we had actually built up a pretty decent group of dedicated players that were helping us improve and move up the rankings.
Leagues have already destroyed that progress, as all but ourselves and maybe 1-2 other WvW guilds have left.
With that said, here are my concerns about the new system.
1) Getting rolled every week is incredibly frustrating and could easily take the fun out of the game completely. I’m all for underdogs and I love the thought of pulling GoM out of the ashes, but the fact is everyone will be on 1-2 servers and we’ll get destroyed. This will be the case for a lot of lower tier servers, and it will only encourage even more top heavy servers.
2) Even if we DID want to transfer to a server with a shot, it would just turn into a massive zerg fest 24/7, which is also no fun.
3) This greatly encourages PvE players with no investment in WvW to not only transfer, but get rewards for doing NOTHING! We don’t get rewards if we don’t participate in Living Story content, nor do we get PvP rewards if we don’t play in tournaments. Why should everyone else get the rewards that we fight for day in and day out without lifting a finger?
4) This is probably my biggest concern. A quote from the GW2 blog post: “To further incentivize spending your points we will not be introducing any new ability lines during the season, nor shall we be making any other changes to WvW, with the exception of bug fixes, until the season concludes”
This means we’ll get no improvements to WvW at all and be stuck with a pretty stale game mode for a long period of time. I’ve tried to defend ANet before when people claimed that WvW was the bottom of the barrel in terms of their priorities, but this change makes it pretty clear to me that they aren’t really interested in what our player base wants.
I’m really scared that this change will make me want to stop playing the game altogether, and I’m pretty sure there are a LOT of other players that will do the same.

Wow I miss these forums! And I missed this matchup! Back from a short break, and seems like it was a good week to come back.
Here’s a fight with some [OS] and randoms from yesterday morning in GoM borderlands…enjoy!

Nice to finally watch a video with music I really like, thanks for that. Looks like you had fun!

Probably should have mentioned that lol
And a Mesmer…so light armor haha
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
So I’m trying to put together a look that’s as much SAB as possible. I already have the weapon skins I want (Staff and Greatsword) and I have the Toad backback cover that we just got.
Anyone have any recommendations for armor skins and/or dye colors to go with this idea?
P.S. Not sure if this is the right forum for this, so feel free to move it.

Hi guys, I have some ideas for the Build of the Month Contest Event which I’d like to organize and get it running as soon as the new patch comes through.
I’m looking for 3 respected and knowledgeable (and of course fair) individuals to act as official assessors on the review board to have somewhat a final say on the builds participating in the contest.
I have Pyro and Chaos in mind for the positions but I’d like to ask for their opinions first because if you’re on the review board, you simply can’t participate in the contest itself to prevent any conflict of interest.
@Pyro, Chaos: what do you guys think?
Anyone else want to volunteer?
This is an awesome idea! When I thought of the Build of the Month thing I while back I had no idea how we should implement it, but this seems like a good way to do it. I’d be interested in throwing my name in for the review board, but if not I’ll be happy to be a participant instead

I never understood the need for 25% movement speed. I swap in my focus every so often when out of combat, but it’s really only a minor inconvenience.
The only reason I’d consider using these is for the 15% boon duration in combination with other runes. I just don’t think these are worth it considering what you’re giving up by not using more combat oriented runes.
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
Pretty sure it was DRIPPING with sarcasm…

More importantly, another 15% boon duration rune! Yay!

Hilarious – nice job man, very well played. Gotta love that not so pesky LB ranger. Kinda just stood around the whole time.
Thanks! Yeah that ranger was amusing at most, didn’t help that he was an uplevel haha, he hit like a wet noodle.

So sorry for your loss Chaos, take all the time you need of course, and I wish you all the best.
Your passion and willingness to help others is one of the main reasons the mesmer community is so great.

For the longest time I’ve been thinking to myself: “Self, all WvW needs to really go to the next level and be the perfect mode is to make the map harder to read and to increase the incentives for zerging.” And boy did they deliver!
- Tired of being able to tell who owns which camp/tower? Fine, we’ll change the colors so you can’t tell the difference between blue and green!
- Need more reason to zerg? Here’s a WXP booster! Done!
Nailed it guys.

I haven’t been on in a few weeks due to some RL stuff, but as of 3 weeks ago the build in my signature was a lot of fun as a Greatsword build.
The main description in the post talks about it as a hybrid phantasm/support build, but there’s a part at the bottom that talks about solo play with it.
Take a look and give it a shot if it looks like something you’d like.

I think the people in this thread are having two separate discussions.
1) NPCs should be tougher.
I disagree with this, because it discourages small groups and solo players even more than it is currently.
2) NPCs should scale with the amount of people.
This I agree with. A lord should scale up if there are 40 people compared to if there were only 10. Not only would this make it more reasonable without guards dying instantly, it would discourage the mega zergs people always complain about. Not to mention that this is how bosses work in other aspects of the game.

My only toon is a mesmer; I love my mes; but ever since sword and focus nerf the COMBAT has been degrading making it no FUN! ANET; sword on a mesmer is the only THEE only MEELE weapon why are nerfing it? no fun! ik they nerfed it a while back but since then i’ve noticed sword focus is ridiculously lame though, they’re not OP WHY NERFF ITT!!!!!!!! it’s the ONLY MEELE WEAPON

Read the article again. They said they’re introducing the mechanic that replaces the Orb of Power. They’ve already stated multiple times that the Orb will never come back.
They didn’t specify what they’re adding, but they’re replacing it with something.
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
As general as they are, it’s awesome to see that the community asked for dev responses to reassure us that they’re listening and now, one day later they’re doing it.
You may not give away the details, but I appreciate the fact that you’re at least listening to us!
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
I would like the new maps to have more strategic placements in them not just open field everywhere.
Example: Like maybe a tunnel that with a amount of supply can be build to travel people to point A to point B.
Another example maybe allow us to destroy bridges(which can be rebuild with supply) with siege so the enemy players have to run around a big cliff or something to slow them down.
Stuff like that.
These are fantastic ideas. I would love to see things like this introduced. This is the kind of thing that would really take WvW to the next level in making it a unique game mode.
So many ideas running through my head now, but I don’t dare get my hopes up.
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
Thanks for the link, just read through it. I’m going to go ahead and say I’m cautiously optimistic. I think new skills/traits is a very cool idea for progression and keeping the game fresh, but I also think it’s very risky.
We’ve already seen evidence of the devs having a tough time balancing skills with overbuffs/nerfs, and it will only get worse with more things to balance.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited, but I really hope they introduce a test server to help testing all these new things.
As far as new skills, I don’t have anything specific, but I really hope we get more options for condition builds, AoE damage for mesmers who zerg (I don’t, but i know plenty would like it) and a new elite skill. I also hope they make some of our current skills more viable (looking at you torch and signets).
Keep in mind this is coming solely from a WvW perspective, but as far as I can tell that’s the game mode that dominates this forum overall, which I also find interesting.
Tarnished Coast [Crit]
I don’t think so, because he said “the other torch skill goes from 30 seconds to 24 seconds.” which leads me to believe he’s talking about just Dom IX
They both have the same cooldowns, so they’ll both have the same reduced cooldowns.
Maybe I misunderstood the question though? He’ll have to clarify to know for sure lol
