Bah Liadri has nothing on TA f/u, just the name causes shivers in all groups and they run screaming for the exit before the spiders get them.

Heck I even whispered the name to Liadri and she fell dead on the spot! That’s btw how I beat her…

Your point has already been mentioned in the thread (ww utility evaluation as an example) and that this is all purely theoretical optimization assuming an optimized group setup.

Traiting for “Sweet Revenge”, “Warrior’s Sprint”, “Mobile Strikes” etc. is all very good and allows the warrior to adjust for the group he is in but frankly this is mostly useful for PUG environment which is not the target for any serious dmg optimization.

And you should rethink your last statement and look at who is posting…

So was playing around with rotations the other day; with sharpened axes (20% reduction on axe skills) I got this rotation that flows very well…

cyclone
crushing blow
<tremor if available and desireable>
Axe chain
Cyclone
<swap>
100B
<WW if available and doable>
<autoattack to swap>

repeat

There is a slight skew in the flow when tremor comes up but its minor, this flow should provide close to 11 stacks vulnerability over time (2 cyclones in one swap+the crushing blow) this should be 4-5% dmg extra over the normal chain.

Havent done the math on this one and what could be a concern is;

1. Only one axe chain per swap (however two goes above the weapon swap timer and as long as a swap to GS is a benefit then this should be moot)
2. Losing Destruction of the Empowered so as long as the boss is 2+ boons this would be a loss in dps (getting fuzzy here, if the skill chain is better than the normal one then it might be 3+ boons)

Would be interesting to see any feedback on the actual chain being used…

Yeah limiting yourself to one weapon set is imo a bad thing anyway…

I decided to redo some testing on the skill durations and I found something disturbing, I play a Norn character and I used fraps to capture a 100B sequence of X samples with each sample having a 8s cd this allows me to calculate the actual duration for the 100B…

Weird thing is that I get 4.5 seconds which is way off what it should be I also verified it using a one attack sequence (until timer pops) and it seems accurate.

Can someone else plz verify this (I am hoping something is messed up in my testing).

Seems to be skill lag, got similar issue with whirlwind about .5-1s delay, youll loose about 1 GS autoattack in the dps rotation since you swap back to axe as soon as swap timer is up (guesstimate).

However if the Skill lag delay happens on both the 100B and the new Axe chain after the swap then its a pretty big dps loss. Reminds me of the Engineer bomb autoattack, the first attack has a woundup but after that it spews bombs like crazy.

Not sure if this is news or if its just me doing some poor testing, playing a Norn and although the Wiki says 3.2s duration for 100B I get 4.5 seconds in my testing (X number of attacks captured using fraps and adjusting for cooldown).

edit seems to be skill lag, seems most cooldown skills are affected

Pure Axe/Mace has orders of magnitude less complexity (you will -still- swap on every CD for Sigil of Battle). It’s going to have a higher % of situations where it’s usable.

Not sure I follow you, the last paragraph confuses me. With a 10s swap cd youd have to have 2 sigils for the full benefit which is a wasted slot and I thought the scenario was that you stayed in Axe/Mace.

There is the odd scenario where you can use weapon swap and stay in the same setup (only one hand in each swap has a weapon) but that setup is very constraining.

I wonder how much latency is playing a role there, as it doesn’t see intuitive that you’d have less latency for one ability and more for another than I do. What race are you using (sneaking suspicion this could be a root cause of timing differences). I’m using Charr.

Should never use the animation to stopgap the chain, suggest disabling auto attack and use the skill availability instead since these should be locally coordinated and thus lag independent (ofcourse you would need to calculate each chain step separately since the input lag is relevant).

You do realize this is a moot point? Each such “real life” test is so dependent on group composition (being able to stay for chain completion for instance, heal regen etc etc).

Also the same is true for both builds, granted the Axe/GS has a higher skill level and the 100B is rooted which has its risks you are still waiting the the axe chain to complete and if you loose the tripple thats a huge chunk of dps gone.

IMO asking for a real life against a boss is an invalid request, this is all theoretical and best case assumptions anyway so if you are going for a comparison a dummy is the way to go and I bet someone can produce a Video of punching a dummy…

Its better to stick to the purely theoretical first and worry about actually realizing it later, no point mixing the two up into the same scenario (divide and conquer).

IMO, pure dps differential is minimal between the builds discussed here and can easily be negated depending on boss encounter and other situational effects.

Also with regards to rotations;

  • The axe chain is backloaded which is 3.6s for the full dmg effect
  • The 100B is 3.2s long and evenly distributed

None of these work great with a 10s or 5s weapon swap, however weapon swap can easily be timed if one always start axe dps with cyclone (which you should), its 6s cd timer is somewhat well timed with the axe auto chain (with some tweaks).

I think everyone knows that you want to wait for the axe chain to complete before swapping. But anyway…

So with the small difference it all comes down to actual execution and specific situation, imo with that in play you want a quick roation that includes 100B since the AOE dmg is superior from the 100B/WW and the invuln from the WW is also a bonus.

Lets take Alpha as a very simple example, with a DPS rotation a Warrior can almost manage a full encounter without the need to dodge, it also (if alpha is very aoe happy) allows the warrior to regen end by providing an extra escape mechanism. This secondary whirlwind effect is great in almost any boss encounter where you want to escape dmg.

A secondary effect is the use of Weapon Swap sigils, if you dont have the Fast Hand trait they are almost useless, with the fast hand trait however you can basically provide 6 stacks of 20s Might (ofc assuming you dont use an oncrit sigil) in addition to the 1 stack from secondary traits that 7 stacks permanently.

The bigger question is wether the new character will progress in their personal level? I would assume not and thakittens connected to the end of the boss (ie spawn of final chest).

Because what else would be the point? Loot and rewards are per account anyway so the only reason todo this is to run the frac on the main but make sure the alt gets the progression.

Unless your main with a high PRL is a less than perfect class to do the fractal with.

I understand your point but with main I meant the character you prefer todo the frac with.

Honestly it should. The time vs. reward is so far off…

Dont really agree with that;

  • Plenty of champions for loot
  • Unique skins
  • Each run gives around 120+ relics which basically translates to
  • … 4 Skill levels
  • or ~ a 20slot bag which is around 12g on TP
  • or 8 obsidian shards which is ~17k Karma

As someone who has emptied all my characters for the legendaries I crafted I see FotM as ideal place to farm for the stuff I need for the next one… Just need to get world completion done on yet another character…

Funny thing actually, other than death by falling, there’s no one-shots in Dark Souls. There’s high damaging attacks that can kill you in one hit if you don’t have good health, but nothing that does so much that you can’t survive it.

Thats not true…

  • Asylum Demon if you stood on the ledge for too long
  • Bed of Chaos def. could one shot you
  • Hellkite Dragon (running on the bridge burned you to a crisp)
  • Rolling chunk of rocks in Sen’s Fortress
  • Wheel skeletons if you got stuck in corners
  • Seen Tail Swipes from dragons (Gaping Dragon) take 100% in one swipe
  • Stray Demon, if you are silly enough to stand beneath and not dodge

And there are a lot more examples, however I can see your point in DS it was not a “Do it my way or Die” statement, it was always clearly options to how to resolve a combat and also it was always clear what you did wrong.

In some of the fights it just gets to constricted and stacked against you, I dare anyone to turn on post processing and do Liadri…

None of those are actually one-shots. They do a lot of damage, and if you don’t have a good amount of health, they can kill you in one hit if you don’t have high health or defenses, but you CAN take any of those hits and survive (discluding falling to your death as I mentioned before) given the proper health and defenses. There’s a big difference between a one-shot on someone with crummy armour, and their base health being one-shot, and everyone being one-shot.

Yes they are oneshot, I specifically went for examples that illustrated this point. There are also a lot of other examples of combination attacks that although dont take all your health in one blow still means you die without any chance to react to it.

Seeing your life bar being slowly drained or in chunks it is just a visual effect, like for instance you run up a corridor and suddenly a skeleton on a wheel comes rolling at you, if you are not smart enough (to use a shield or dodge in GW2) then you are dead, maybe from 50 small attacks but it doesnt change the fact that you cant do anything about it.

Also if you do the game in the linear order without having previous knowledge about the game and how the mechanics work then youll never be properly geared to survive most of the boss attacks

I found it quite easy after a few tries, not sure if it was luck or if it is repeatable…

Range DPS the dog and run along the outer edge of the dome, youll kite the guy behind you and swiftness is def. recommended. The dog will move out after the meat and you can basically autoattack him if you are not comfortable doing quick turns to fire backward.

Ignore the meat unless it lands infront of you, the dog should never get a hit on you so his boost doesnt matter.

An alternative to this approach is to nuke the hunter down and kite the dog around the outer edges but this might be trickier. Just dont get stuck on chasing the kitten meat…

You can turn off ground targetting, this means that he will cast it where the mouse pointer is, just make sure you position it above your characters head.

I have RMB constantly down while playing and I turned off ground targetting a long time ago, however I wish ANET were smart enough to auto center the mouse pointer when RMB is down but nooooooooooooooo…..

Finally did it, a 30/0/0/10/30 build full zerk. The only tweaks I made was for increased vitality but I doubt it made a difference.

I went with a end. regen setup, bought a low cost GS and put an energy (mostly for dodge regen).

Phase 1 is easy so I wont touch on that, phase 2 for me was simply to see where the shadow fell and run there while range dps and keep doing that. If I got in a jam Shake it off/Swap to GS for end/Swap GS for Whirlwind fixed it.

The biggest issue I had for path 2 was the movement pattern for the safe zone handling, as soon as that was done it all falls into place.

Edit: btw the farther you are from the center the farther you need to run, you cant be too close to the center for obvious reasons but halfway is a sweet spot

I did Liadra with my guardian using scepter/shield. Her health is really not that high compared to some of the other gauntlet bosses. If you are running out of time, I suggest you spend more time figuring out what is taking you too long in phase 1. Because after that it’s just run in a circle and DPS.

this…

As soon as you realize the pattern in phase 2 the only real problem becomes the stupid chaos rift, that one should be removed.

A simple guide for phase 2;
When you see the shadow drop, run there then dps. Next shadow drops run again, repeat until she dies.

Should be noted that the farther out you are while running the longer you have to run, I suggest staying halfway to the center.

Do we know how the rewards is calculated? Is it set per dungeon or is it based on performance in a dungeon? Imo its quite possible they tied it to length of the run which would basically kill any dungeon farming in general.

Also from a newbie point of view youd get the same amount of gold if you are supereffiecient and run X paths then if you are very slow and just manages 1.

It would put a pretty hard lock on gold introduced from dungeon running which might be something ANet would be happy about (controls gold inflow to the economy)

Sorry but no…

What you are describing is going back to the old tank/dps/heal/support roles and thats a step back.

Were they really?

Not really IMHO even tabletop, and story book fantasy use it. I’m pretty sure our modern military even has a tank/healer/dps system

Half the problems with PvE in this game stem from no one needing anyone else and everyone being 100% self sufficient in all arenas of PvE.

Think You misunderstood me, ANet has explicitly stated that the design of GW is not around whats called the holy trinity (tank/healer/dps). Now you can argue that such a clearly defined role division promotes strategy etc etc etc but the fact is that the whole community is split in this discussion and ANet has taken its side…

Therefore in the context of GW it would be a step back.

Also from my personal aspect the trinity is kinda silly, hey im an uberboss but ill stand here slamming my head against a wall while 40 other characters keep pinching me in the back

I have nothing against the current design, however stupid bosses promotes exploitation that in turn favors specific builds/strategies. Things like reflection that bosses ignore altho it takes 50% of their life etc etc.

And I have no idea where you get the notion that modern armies uses a trinity approach. Healer/Dps maybe could be argued for a small part of the military but thats debatable.

However it should be paired with clearly signalled moves so clever players can try to avoid (thinking of Mossmans stupid aggro and oneshot mechanics).

Best to worst dungeon dps classes?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: aeneq.1760

aeneq.1760

Depends on utilization and what stat you look at, group benefits, dps, utility etc etc

Think all classes has there place but as most dungeons are played these days (melee stacking, los pulls) aoe dmg is a very important factor. So any class with high dmg aoe spells and classes that boost that output.

Single target and ranged dps classes are probably the worst to bring imo (other than for utility skills, portal/timewarp). Guardian is a great class and one should be the staple of any group, nor for dps but for their utility (aegis helps with 1 mistake situation which in some dungeons can be the difference from a downed state, prot/reflection is almost crucial in some scenarios and a lvl48 fractal without a guard means trickery

edit: that said, dungeons (except really high level fractals) are extremely ezmode at the present, any class is viable as long as they have a somewhat decent build and some skill, except ofcourse if its a min/maxing group like CoF farming).

The #gems are constant, ie the value of the gem is defined by the market and not by ANet. Thus as people can earn more and more gold the gem prices will continue up, if we see a big trend where gold is removed from the economy quicker than people can earn it then we will also see a drop in gem prices…

Is this likely to happen? No, ANet has probably a set target for how much gold is introduced to the economy (this is a positive number since its a better player experience).

Stop undercutting expensive items

in Black Lion Trading Co

Do as most do, dont put it up on a sell order just wait for the buy order to become “reasonable” and sell it directly.

Undercutting by 1 copper usually means noone is going to jump at it and instead wait for someone who will undercut by a larger margin (they feel they get a better deal waiting).

Unfortunately if someone comes in and undercuts with 1cp on the previous larger undercut then the same logic could apply and price would trend downward (ofcourse as soon as it get close to the buy order they will get bought).

Anyway my point is that if you put it up for sell order you always will run the risk of getting it stuck in undercut lane, it might sell but itll take a while and youll just have to accept that.

Some people might be kitten ed of at the birds knocking you down but hey you’ll circumvent the first part by using swiftness to jump to the rich copper node (daily gathering thank you) or if you have stability avoidance skills just running thru them.

Unfortunately you dont have the necessary data to evaluate this proposed idea, neither do anyone on the forums. I do believe that the economical modelling going into the decisions about the fees/sinks etc are a lot more extensive than you would think and this most likely already has been discussed.

Also most of the items sold on the TP are “introduced” items, ie. things that are dropped by mobs, rewards, crafted from these mats etc. So any change on the TP only limits the rate people are earning gold (by reducing the return of new items into the world) as such this will never be a proper way to combat inflation (btw your def. is kinda wacky).

What you want is a way to spending=earning and you cant do that on TP, the biggest inflation combat is the jewel store and the desire for new “good looking pixels”.

Bulls Charge misses half the time, GS rush is easily seen/avoided, it seems to me you are bent on killing a warrior in melee range and if that’s the case then you deserve to die.

That said, the Healing Signet is a bit OP in pvp atm and that will most likely be fixed.

Easiest Jumping Puzzles?

Sorry but the easiest is the one in Shiverpeak Mountains (Shamans Rookery), an extremely accessible waypoint, low level area, straight short jump path in an open cavern (4-5 jumps) and two very simple mobs at the end.

Some people might be kitten ed of at the birds knocking you down but hey you’ll circumvent the first part by using swiftness to jump to the rich copper node (daily gathering thank you) or if you have stability avoidance skills just running thru them.

Here is an online video thats 50s long bu the puzzle itself is doable in less.

IDEA: add post time limit to TP

So gold sink has ZERO effect on inflation?

You think this idea will NOT increase the gold sink?

You think the TP generates wealth?

Yes it is a gold sink, anything that adds a loss of gold is. However will it be triggered in any large extent that it would have an impact? All TP players will try to stay away from triggering this sink since it limits their profits, this means lower prices.

This means youll probably have less people relisting than you have now which measn your sink is negative, also it means lower cost overall which will mean less from the transaction fee sink AND the listing fee sink.

Also why do you think you need to curb inflation? Heck with the gold ANet has distributed with the chest one would assume inflation is less of a concern than you would think.

Also if you REALLY want to do something about inflation, fixing and trixing with the TP is not an efficient way todo it. You are better of reducing salvage ratios, vendor prices, drop chances or adding new consumables.

In general new consumables is the way togo since it moves the game experience forward (give gold/take away gold but give some intangible feel good from it).

@aeneq: If you are making “knife blade” profits then chances are you did not acquire your goods from the game, but instead from the TP. So you are essentially saying a time limit will impact you as a “flipper” on the TP. Regardless you also state in different words that it makes the market place more competitive — and that was my goal with this idea.

Ofcourse it will make the prices go down since it will be more stuff in play around the current low price, but its interesting that you totally ignore the issue I had with not returning the listing fee which was my main “issue” with your suggestion.
