3rd Party trading...

Nah was thinking more of someone posting an item with certain gating factors to the transaction, one could be the receiving account and the other would be the cost of the item.

This way the third party wouldnt release the item before the gating factors have been satisifed. This ofcourse means that the third party has both sale and purchasers stuff a while and this ofcourse means it needs to be trusted, but thats something that builds up over time if its a service offered and not random player x.

Guild bank was interesting, if this would be offered as a service then large amount of storage might be needed and that ofcourse could be an issue in the long run i.e. managing all this space might require establishing multiple guilds/players etc.

Hey, I have seen a lot of player scamming often related to player to player mail scenarios.

This led me to think abit about a player to player trading system using a third party intermediary, as long as that third party is trusted by both this works out fine. It can even be extended to using an external website and using proxy players within the game. That said the third party ofcourse needs to be “paid” in game currency (either a flat fee or a percentage).

My question really is whether this is against any TOS?

PS: If you are technically minded and are starting to think about automated processes with external programs actually doing the mail transaction etc. then dont, this is just a question about the core idea of facilitating party to part trading using in game mail

Actually the OP just mentioned a might stacking build, in which case 30/25 is the way to go. However he was also asking about 30/10 which isnt a stacking build.

I hadnt actually tried 30/0/0/10/30 before I wrote the earlier posts, I was using a 30/25 and was just about to do some gearing around that and I agree the might stacks are nice when they hit for sure!

I however decided to try the 30/0/0/10/30 today and I am getting 4.1k atk with 86% crit (thats without banner of discipline and instead using Strength with a crit dmg of 91%)

I also am running 2xRuby orbs, 2xMonk, 2xWater and with 10% in traits and 20% from food buff I keep fury, might and swiftness exactly 100% uptime (well 1sec glitch due to animation). This made it possible to free up FGJ and replace it with whatever I desire (since fury is 100% anyway).

So with this change I def. feel I got more consistent dps, and two really good group bonuses with some sweet retraits if I desire. I might not get 25 stack on mobs solo (which only happened with multiple mobs, 14 stacks are more consistent) and instead get 5 stacks but gained Strength banner which equals ~4.8 (with 26 sec downtime so lets say 4 stacks).

Im actually quite happy with it, im gonna run it a while and see how it works out for me. Just need to get me some Monk runes for the toughness gear.

Yeah well theres a lot of stuff in that build I dont like

  • Its actually 88% WITH Fury which isnt 100% uptime
  • Its also with ascended gear
  • Crit sigils
  • Banners are kitten on a 120cd so +precision is actually around 40 with +2.5% crit dmg
  • You usually only have 2 sigils on non cd so thats 80 prec but lets say 100 which is around 5%
  • The thread you linked didnt discuss 30/0/0/10/30 which should provide better benefits than the 5% crit chance you can get from the 30/10/0/0/30

That said you can compensate precision with some food buffs but that linked build in itself should be taken with some perspective. Whereas 30/0/0/10/30 is static buffs that are active the whole time and is not conflicting with other might buffs in grouping and provides some versatility for retraiting when needed.

I prefer it also but if you look at the data, GS crit= 5 seconds of might which means that in a 30/25 you would end up with maybe around 5 stacks unless you are in AOE situations (which usually dont matter that much), if you stack might duration runes and food you can get around 80 which if you are lucky equals about 10 stacks.

Then ofcourse in a fight with mobility youll start losing some of those mights due to lack of crits.

Since 5 stacks is just a little more than the Empower Allies trait (which is active all the time) and you also get the 30% crit dmg you can start seeing that 30/10 is probably a better choice.

Also if you are in specific situation you can quickly retrait for Sweet Revenge, Mobile Strikes, Stronger Bowstrings, Inspiring Banners, Empowered whereas there is little options in Arms.

Depends both of those have good points and both works fine either way, it comes down to what you think and what the group you play with thinks.

I prefer 30/25, although in optimal settings 30/10 might be better I personally havent yet run in a PVE group that consistently allow 30/10 to shine. That said its a bit selfish, Empowered trait is really nice for the group itself.

Also altough farming is mindless it all comes down to speed and 30/25 def. does more dmg when running solo.

edit: Its not so much the Destruction of the Empowered trait that makes 30/10 good, you basically have the same crit chance as 30/25 but you get 30% crit dmg in addition and the Empowered trait. The rest of the traits are equal to anything in the 30/25 tree, compare this to losing the might stacking in 30/25 and choose

Exotic Mini Pet Price Drop

Someone mentioned 5000g+ profit doing this “exploit” however that’s unlikely, the underlying market is too slow moving to warrant such a remark. The cost per pet is due to its rarity not the huge demand (notice I say huge) as such I would suspect he got round 500-1000g tops for (and ofcourse if multiple people did the same thing the price dropped so fast I doubt they even got that).

edit: Yes I agree with the previous post, the ones who did this and were smart enough to keep the pets will probably earn a nice profit but it will take time before all the pets are sold

I’m sure someone made 5000g, why? These holo knight pets were so common they stayed cheap on the trading post, allowing cheap MF recipes…. if the holo knight was rare and stayed the same price as other mini’s, it would have not crashed anything and when you have lots of people who had bids in on jack-a-lops for 150g+, you just made around 125g profit per crafted one.

Well thats assuming that the buy price is high, however if you look at buy data youll see thakittens not that many that is that high and as you sell your minis it plummets (as it did in this case), also with the cost of the mini and the chance someone calculated a base cost of around 25g if I recall correctly.

So the actual profit before the margins gets narrow is lot less than what you expect, the real profit is for the ones who actually hold on to the pet and who will trickle these out over time so yes in the long run I wouldnt be surprised if someone got a few g out of it but not on the initial rush.

[SUGGESTION] Account Bound Legendaries

in Suggestions

aeneq.1760

This probably have been mentioned several times before but I think Legendaries should be account bound.

During a player lifetime he most likely will swap professions;

  • maybe he gets bored
  • maybe certain professions are better suited for certain content
  • PvE vs PvP professions
  • Achievement hunting
  • Professions gets broken/changed in patches

In addition to this character will very often switch builds for a number of reasons.

Concerns like this will force people to NOT create legendaries since they arent sure they are going to stay with the current character or spec. This also limits things like achievement hunting etc.

Legendary hunting is one of the big stepping stones after hitting 80, making this character bound forces people to playing a single character (enforced by the time invested) which will eventually make people bored.

If im way off on this or if people have other arguments for/against please make your voice heard.

Used to be a lot more profitable when there were more high cost superior sigils but they have come down a bit lately when everyone starts to use the same ones.

Is more cost efficient to buy rare weapons and diss them for the sigils, with 80% return rate and cost of salvage you are still way below 2s a sigil. However its a LOT more work and you dont have the same throughput on major sigils thus less volume.

Since I see the pet as my primary dmg provider most of the skills I choose is about giving the pet boosts or attack opportunities. As such the SB cripple, stun methods paired with a high rate of fire and Companions might and roots elite works well together.

However the secondary weaponset is a concern for me, Sword/Horn is great for evades and speed utility (saves a signet in pvp) but it lacks range but since I consider it primarily as an evade set im ok with.

To argue your point about market manipulation I know of only one strategy (other than owning the market which require a low supply market and long term commitment, this is risky).

  • You buy an item I at a low buy price and build a supply
  • You submit buy orders to increase the value to a point where it stabilizes
  • You wait until the sell price adjusts
  • You sell the mats you bought

This strategy has several problems, takes a long time to execute, requires the item to be undervalued to start with (undervalued means the market is really willing to pay more).

Doing all this for copper profits are just not worth the time/effort for anyone who really plays the TP (unless this is automated but thats another matter). And further I dont see this as market manipulation, its an adjustment of price to fit demand with someone smart enough to see/predict the profit.

PS: When thinking about it the only real Market Manipulation I see is people who submit insane buy orders so the item shows up on trading lists such as gw2spidy as hot, thereby “cheating” people following these lists.

And how do you deduce this? From a single screenshot with no information in it other than a demand/price list in it that has no specific bidder information?

I see the screenshot as something completely different;

  • The item was undervalued/New need was discovered
  • Subsequent buy orders were placed were someone needed/was willing to pay more than the current bid
  • Price stabilized around 89

I see this as a fully functional open market, price manipulation only works if theres a profit margin which there isnt in this case and thus can be claimed as evidence against a manipulation (in this specific case).

Wheres the evidence that this specific case is market manipulation? You claim facts and evidence and I (not alone) has yet to see either.

So you are saying he bought at 81, then selling the stuff at 89/90? With the TP fees he would be going -4c profit on that transaction (using “bad things” you can get close to 0 but never positive).

Not sure how you were thinking here… But lets assume he turns 1c profit on this and also assume its ONE person with 25000 items (which is not possible or up there with the universe exploding) then he would turn an impressive 2.5g profit…

If you are looking at market manipulator in this volume then you are looking at people with some big pockets and the risk/reward/effort is def. not worth it with anything that costs less than a few silvers.

The answer really is simple, get more precursors on the market so they can’t all be flipped but a few guys with way too much gold.

But what you are saying here is that things should never be allowed to be rare? The rest of the mats are simple farming and not very hard to get, something in the legendary recipe needs to be very rare otherwise there is no point.

IMO I don’t think your concern can or should be addressed by increasing drop rate

The bl TP being abused

Don’t see the problem here, even if the items where bought and relisted whats wrong with that? Its an open marketplace, are you advocating controlling what items are sold for and if so whats the point of the marketplace?

If you had a fixed maximum price for an item in high demand the only thing it would mean is that youd have 2000+ buy orders served in a FIFO order and you wouldnt be able to buy your precursors in two years no matter how much money you farmed.

Even if you were ok with that it would only mean that gold farmer X would put in a large number of buy orders and sell it on the side instead.

Instead of complaining of all the unfairness I would suggest you contributed with a feasible option to solve the problem you are experiencing.

Also 570g +15% (sale/listing fee) is 655, if someone has Dusk for sale at 655 he has two options, pull his off the market and lose the listing fee etc or buy the Dusk for 570 and bet on that he will be able to sell it to recoup the cost.

Anyway nothing strange here, that said with the inflation the precursors will eventually sell so its a good market to bet on if one doesnt mind waiting and assuming the precursors wont increase in volume.

True one can never be certain but with enough data points to analyze one can eliminate the risk of being wrong, this is after all the core of working the Trading Post.

I assume since the OP deemed it necessary to post a question on the forum that this is a consistent enough behavior that he feels it eliminates the “risk” of being wrong.

From the OP I gather this is a niche market that he has been working for some time and with no or minimal competition, if such a market sees an external presence with some regular interval then its likely to be a very small set of traders involved. Especially if you end up in bidding wars for specific items then you know from the feel/reaction/bid how many are involved or committed to this niche.

Anyway, the professional TP traders community are a lot smaller than we like to think.

Sigils and the MF

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: aeneq.1760

aeneq.1760

Ok just dumped a precursor generation strategy in another thread and just thought I would dump another strategy I used for a while building some base funds.

As with the precursor strategy this revolves around using the Mystic Forge and rare sigils, rare sigils can come from either buying the sigils directly (which atm is about 2.70s and up) or from salvaging rare weapons (as low as 1.11s and up, overhead cost is about 50s from 20% loss and salvage kit) which comes out around 1.65s and up per sigil.

With 20% chance of an exotic the cost would be about 26.4s per superior sigil, some of these exotics dont sell at all so what you want to get is Fire/Bloodlust which will be the money making sigils.

The cost per sigil should never be over 3s or youll def. run with a loss, also the gains depends on the superior sigil market which has been getting pretty low lately so this strategy might not be as good as it used to be (a lot of the other sigils have lost a lot of value since the beginning of the year)

How would you go about flipping precursers

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: aeneq.1760

aeneq.1760

What is the ‘start up costs’ on said exercise would you estimate? I’ve had some success with flipping, but this seems more enticing.

Expensive, I had a few thousand G already when I started this and I did so mostly because I didnt see the point dealing with low cost items anymore.

  • Mat cost I would “guesstimate” to be around 100G per precursor (assuming 20s/rare, some times it’ll be more and sometime less).
  • With the sell of any intermediate exotic you should recoup 75% of that cost

You have several things to consider when doing this…

- Some of the exotics sell poorly (I have over 2k in unsold goods on TP)
- Precursors can take time before they sell and theres a risk for undercutting
- Some of the precursors are really bad and since you do random items you dont know which precursor youll get.
- The rare lvl 70+ market is extremely volatile, youll get overbid in seconds so you need to be very vigilant.

Also a few things that most people might now know;

  • The level average must be over 75 to get a chance at a precursor (so if you have 3 lvl 80s weapons you can throw in a lvl 60 item in the mix)

Also; the chance of 4 rares to become an exotic is about 20% when an item is combined in the MF and the result is an exotic then it has a chance to become a precursor. At this stage it doesnt matter if the mats where exotics or rares.

Given this information you can estimate the cost for an exotic to be generated to be about 3.2G, if you can find appropriate exotics that cost less (<80s in our example) then its better to use exotics.

When I did this the cost for exotics was higher but I just checked gw2spidy and there are exotics that cost less so that might be an option as well.

edit: Just realized the price on the mats have gone down since I did this, the price for a suitable rare is now around 16s so adjust all calculations accordingly

How would you go about flipping precursers

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: aeneq.1760

aeneq.1760

I did a lot of precursor generation by simply buying low cost rares 70+ to throw in MF and then sell any exotics produced (I did the math comparing rares/exotics). I had def. success doing this and earned over 5k gold but its a lot of work but its fun when the RNG kicks in and you get multiple high cost precursors in a short time (got 5 Hunters during one weekend and some others as well).

The biggest problem with selling precursors is that the market is pretty slow, the risk is high that you get stuck with a listing that someone undercut and then suddenly before you know it theres 5 dusks ahead of yours and you cant cut and relist due to the high TP fees. I ended up actually selling my stuff to the highest bidder directly as long as it wasnt too low.

I would def. not recommend flipping precursors or even doing it the way I did because the TP is really rough on low cost rares…

It all depends on your playstyle and what you are trying todo. I have all classes at lvl 80 with full exotic (got plenty of gold…) since I wasnt sure what class I would enjoy to play in the long run.

If you are a solo player for the most part then I would suggest Warrior/Guardian. I tend to prefer Guardian as of late due to its survivability. I tried soloing AC on both the Warrior and the Guardian and I felt that Guardian was easier and when farming SSC I def. prefer guardian, doing a veteran karka solo is def. possible.

If survivability is not an issue then yes Warrior axe/mace it the maximum in sustained dps.

  • Similarly if you kite a mob out of his comfort zone he will go back and reset (although it can be triggered again as soon as he gets inside the zone).

Neither DkS or DS are hard they are just very unforgiving to anyone making mistakes, some might consider that as hard but as soon as you get the know how that goes away.

Someone that is good at TP usually have plenty of money so they dont need your money to finance anything. In your example they could just do the work with their own funding and keep all the profit.

At higher level TP trading we are talking of either mass market which is low return or high market items which are slow to sell. When you go over 5k gold there isnt really any reason to go any higher so what would motivate someone to provide the service you are describing?

aeneq.1760

Endgame.

The development cycle of most MMOs and the subsequent content is fairly large and cannot keep up with the hardcore/nolifer playerbase. Most other MMOs solve this by adding a slower march to the Elite level due to the gear progression which keeps the hardcore playerbase busy until the next content release is done.

GW2 intentionally dont do the Gear progression aspect and has so far suffered from the hardcore players getting bored before the next content release happens and thus lose players. The more normal players that match their playstyle/progression with the new content releases dont hit this wall.

It would be great if the game could cater to each of these player communities and I believe the sPvP was the original intent for this faction but this clearly hasnt been a huge success.

Guild vs. Guild battles in a WvW kind of scenario (some kind of ladder system) where the Guild unlockables would come into play in a more direct way would have been a better option to solve this imo.

PS: One could even create a new set of items that “Channel” the Guild bonuses thus providing individual benefit in this scenario.

I’m hoping for shattering ice animation heh at least for picks. As for harvesting-gathering tool, ice something-or-other would probably be better. Axe, hmm fire again would not be logically good lol But maybe after you chop it down the chopped part shatters :P

Actually the way they used to mine way way way back was by heating a surface area by fire and then flooding it with water thus cracking the stone due to the temp. differential.

I have extensive real experience with the MF and I can guarantee that the rate is approx 20%.

However when considering the MF you’ll have to take the cost of the mats, the chance of an upgrade and then the average price for an upgraded item.

Assuming 20s cost per item it comes out at 80s an attempt, 1 in 5 is an upgrade so the cost for an upgraded item is 4g.

I looked at mini pets a while back but I didn’t see any profit margin there.

Yay, got a precursor.

Yes listing fee is non refundable

Precursors in general is a very slow market, I would recommend waiting until the gap between buyer and seller is small and sell it to the buyer.

There was a long analysis thread about this before but if I recall the sigils can be divided into three types, triggered, static and stacking. All sigils within the type share cooldowns unfortunately (this means that an onswap trigger share cooldown with a proc chance trigger)

This is from memory but you can easily test it yourself.

This sucks if you have a very long cooldown on a sigil (like rage being 45sec) then all other sigils of that type would be blocked until the cooldown expires.
