-Coming from Blackwater staff scepter/torch and perplexity runes —--it’s very glassy.

PU conditions is very tanky, but this build is pretty far from glassy, IMHO.

Why not, instead of the Delay ‘feature’, just have the game program it so when Necro’s cast an AoE spell, enemies automatically are moved out of the radius.

Might be easier to program and will have the same effect.

Its fairly easy to get out of combat during a fight, but still be close by to re-engage. The “regeneration time” would have to be so long to make it pretty much the same as the cooldown + recharge, at least.

Yes, you can make condition build, but other classes can apply them faster and clear easier.

WTB stealth and invulnerability on my Necro.

You can clear conditions with traits and some additional clicks, while other classes just use one utility skill.

Clearing 4x conditions on yourself and 5 allies every 20 seconds isn’t enough to be included as “just one utility skill”?

You can build some defence for you, but you will not be able to kill any normal player.

Possibly the best 1v1 profession in the game.

I don’t count imbalanced builds with perplexity runes, it will be fixed.

They were fixed (kinda) last patch.

I can find many “fun” builds, but they are very weak and slow. I want something to remove all conditions and something to apply tons of conditions in one click.

This has been the best matchup and most fun in several weeks. Beating up on servers that can’t field as many gets boring, so I’m glad that Yaks and their little brother showed up in force this week.

Those on SBI complaining about the 2v1 really need to get over it. This is how its supposed to happen when you have 3 competing forces. Be flattered, and chalk it up to lessens learned. And finally enjoy someone to fight and all the bags.

I don’t think anyone is really questioning the usefulness of the Torch. However— using the Torch really doesn’t belong in this type/particular build and I’m sure there are several other variations that aren’t really hybrid power/cond.

Not suggesting this is better than yours, mind you, just looking for a viable way to swap between your build and a classic Blackwater so I can try out both fully without getting 2 full sets of gear.

If you want, you can also just get a zerker chest piece with the same rune you are using in your Rabid.

Tested it tonight on reset.

It… um… didn’t go well.

No bags. No damage. Heals didn’t help that much. Conditions became an issue without Melandrus and Lemongrass.

Will continue tomorrow but the prospects look grim for this experiment.

A bit surprised by this in terms of damage/bags. Even without any crit damage, 3k power plus wells, marks, and transfusion should be netting some bags.

I’ve stated why i didnt take blood. While technically not full vampire, getting only 39 health on crit and 31 on hit is very lackluster, and gimps your damage a lot.

I’m not saying the build may or may not be effective. Just not a vampire build.

That is it an active ability, for one … not its passive. And necros AE lifetap is very powerful on its 25% movement speed trinket. In PvP I find that more useful than sharing some boons to other people that may or may not be in range at the time that I achieve some boons that I may want to share. Very powerful … hardly. Situationally decent at best. SoI is most of the time not useful to anyone unlike say the Necro’s movement trinket which is always useful.

Please stop. The Necro ‘on use’ for its movement speed trinket is absolutely horrible. Nobody, at all, uses this trinket for its ‘on use’, and even less actually bother to throw it on for fear that they get caught in combat before actually putting something else in that slot. SOI is already vastly superior to the necro signet, without any buffs to SOI at all.

Um, I use it. So you are already incorrect. I use it as a stop gap heal between shrouds when my real heal is already down. It has actually saved me often in WvW.

SoI has never saved me … or actually helped me in any measurable way in sPvP, tPvP, or WvW.

Most of those Boons are worthless in the random situations I find myself, especially once you consider their durations and its only a single stack per apply.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that nobody in the entire game makes bad decisions and therefore uses Signet of Locust in combat.

For example: Engineer and Necromancer have reliable movement speed sources which allows them to focus their runes on build synergies (Perplexity, Torment, ect) rather than using them to make up for a class deficiency.

Yes.

Until they change the minors in Death Magic, I refuse to small man group roam with a 5 and 15 point minor that does nothing for me, while there are useful minors in the other trees (even the spite minors are better).

I actually like the Blood Magic minors, but then I find the majors in that tree to be lack luster without greater marks (see previous problem), or just lack luster in general (siphons).

That leaves me three trees to work with. If I have to choose between 30 points in SR for stability (good but not great when roaming fights always consist of eles, mesmers, and thieves you cannot safe stomp), 30 points in Curses for more damage (meh) and a good major like spectral attunment (can be good).

Or 30 in Spite, for a free cover condition, more duration, a free spinal shivers.

Also for a proc based build (on crit and otherwise), the burning is obviously an integral part to pair with the confusion/bleeds/torment.

The last 3-4 times I have tried to kick the habit, I run into a perplexity engineer, regen warrior, regen heavy thief, or someone else that is nearly impossible to take down without the extra cover and damage, using their class equivalent of “dummfire” so to speak.

That said, I don’t like the trait, but I would be foolish to skip it in favor of challenging myself. I am already taking on as many people as I can, which is challenge enough.

I don’t disagree, but I just personally hate to respec over and over again, and I can’t live without Greater Marks because I still will get involved in larger stuff when it happens.

I might give 30-20-20-0-0 a try.

Also— what is your preferred means of fast travel? Swap to Warhorn? Use the Sigil until you run into a foe?

I seem to generally either run Warhorn/Bashee’s Wail as permanent traits and weapon, or Spectral Walk/Mastery. Not really entirely happy with either all the time

I run a build that is similar to this one I found. While its not as frequent as Necro Marks and Wells, it has the benefit of being much, much better combo fields.

Even though we wont do it for Dec 10. I just wanted to throw out a wacky possible idea for Dhuumfire that we could discuss…

  • Life Blast has a 100% chance to cause Burning on hit (2 seconds long). 6 seconds ICD.

Obviously the #s are ballpark and not necessarily final. The % chance, duration, and ICD are all subject to change.

I like this idea. Power builds will not have strong CondDmg and Condi builds that go 30 into Spite will have weak LifeBlasts. The ICD also keeps things under control.

This is not a good idea because it ruins Hybrid spec’s

Moving Terror to GM trait and making it scale with # of conds on target is a good idea. Then they could move that terribad Withering Precision to master trait, which is where it should be, especially because it is single target and has a 20s CD.

They could then leave Dhuum where it is if they did this…

Well it depends how they scale Terror with/without conditions — as it is now it already scales off of whether there are any conditions or not. They could easily just added increased damage from where it is now for more conditions.

In the curses tree, or spite? If its 30 spite, it really still doesn’t make sense — since it would be based off precision and do condition damage (curses line). It would fit really well in Curses or Soul Reaping.

I feel like the weakness is just a little bit too small. I feel like 3s base would be perfect. In PvP overall condition duration sits at 50% at max for weakness, which would give it a 45% uptime, assuming you used it on CD. But more realistically, it’d be used less often as the normal bleed burst rotation.

Otherwise, I think its a decent option, my only fear is that, like other on-entry skills, it ends up too weak because it “can” be spammed every 7s in one build.

We are going back and forth between 2s and 3s of weakness. 3s with full condi duration and with Near to Death trait is almost 65% uptime, which sortof scared us on an adept trait that gives AoE weakness. 2s works out to 42% uptime when maxed out which felt a little better. Still open to discussion so thanks,

I think you meant 30/20/0/0/20 which is generally accepted as one of the best condition builds, which is what you run this with, and also not including food, but only including condition duration runes. With food it actually goes to.

The discussion of possibly moving Terror into Grandmaster tier is making me dread these upcoming changes, if it happens. 30 in Curses is a staple for my build (20/30/20/0/0), and being forced to choose between Terror or Lingering Curses is ridiculously harsh. With my current gear and traits, swapping Lingering Curses for any other trait causes a time reduction of over four seconds for my scepter conditions. For someone relying on long durations to help stack up bleeds, that is a massive blow to damage. Deciding to go with Lingering Curses instead of Terror makes fear an absolutely useless condition, which is also way too harsh a blow to damage for me. I currently also have 20 in Death Magic because I adore the underrated Reaper’s Protection trait, but that extra 10 points becomes literally worthless if my fear doesn’t damage. Not having Reaper’s Protection AND not having it inflict damage vastly reduces the appeal of Death Magic for me.

So, point is, if Terror is going to be moved up to Grandmaster, then other traits are going to need to be moved or redone unless you absolutely want to destroy Scepter/Dagger Necromancers. We’re already hated enough with condition capping and there being much higher damage alternatives; to have to pick between Terror or Lingering Curses is just going to make us even less worth having in any party. I strongly urge you to consider making Lingering Curses and Terror accessible simultaneously if Terror is moved.

I believe Anet has stated several times that they greatly dislike weapon skill traits at the GM level. If Terror was moved up, I’d be shocked if it weren’t Lingering Curses moved down.

Siphoned Power description is wrong. What that trait does is give you Might for 5 seconds everytime you are struck when your health is below 25%. This includes going into DS at that point and then building up a bunch of might by getting attacked. I will get the text updated on that for sure.

And you feel 1 stack of might for 5 seconds.. while being in execute range is as useful as say +10% damage while target has a condition.. or even 2% to 8% damage increase based on how many conditions the target has? Or the newly improved Death GM minor.. 10% of toughness as bonus power(which for me will be 300 power.. nice!).

Is that the intended use for this trait? To actually want to remain at 25% HP and then perform a full deathshroud rotation while being hit to maybe add the burst from 8-10 extra might stacks? The power of this trait is so low, that the minor trait which adds might when casting Lifeblast probably doubles or triples its damage value.

The point is this thing is unbounded. You can be hit a bunch of times and it keeps stacking up the might. Maybe the duration is a bit low, but with no cooldown this is a good interesting trait.

If you are getting hit by enough people to get a high amount of might stacks, what good will it be that you live a handful of seconds when popping out of DS cause you are under 25%?

Like the change to Weakening Shroud, though I also think 3s base is a better starting point. (nobody really goes 100% duration, normally at most you see is 70%).

Re: Siphoned Power; thanks for the clarification, but its still a really, really weak trait. @25% traits should be defensive, not offensive.
